Deller is reposonsible for the rediscovery of contertenor vocals. This album contains lighter, shorter folk tunes of the Elizabethan age. Some may find Deller's falsetto eery or unnerving but he offers a masterful recreation of an ancient technique.

    I remember following this artist many years ago when she performed more often in the States. She was an exciting performer then who sang with passion and great skill. Just discovered this cd and was instantly struck by how much her voice had matured. It's now fuller, richer with more dimensions. I also love lute and Elizabethan music done well. Have to agree with the other reviewer...this is a wonderful cd that my daughter and I can listen to again and again. Move over Sting.

    Whether or not you are familiar with Traditional English music, and especially if you are, this CD is a gem. Ms. Wheeler's voice is clear, supple, beautiful, and her interpretations of the music right on target, whether the song is passionate or funny. I've owned this CD for several years, and loved it from the start. Amazingly enough, my then-four-year-old daughter loved it as well. (For a while it was the only thing we could play on the car CD.) Listen to the samples. Then buy the CD.
