4 out of 5 stars way out yonder.......2003-05-24

This album is folk, I guess, but really goes all over the place. Just when you think you're getting sucked into a folk-country album with songs about marriage and lost love, you're hit with an ode to a drug dealer. The song, Distant Eyes, is the one to hear- the production is fantastic, surreal. In general, the album has a happy feel to it and I think that's okay, I'm just not used to that kind of vibe.

3 out of 5 stars you are not evan reeves.......2002-05-21

Dear Michael Stark(if that's really your name), My mother may take issue with your statement. Do you think the folkie in Boulder is the only Evan Reeves in the entire world? I thank you for bringing him to my attention, though. Not bad for a debut album. Anyway, thanks for the identity crisis -- I'll be forwarding my shrink bills your way. Sincerely, EVAN REEVES.

4 out of 5 stars A Thoreau Examination.......1999-11-19

Evan Reeves' poetry and song lyrics are a refreshing return to sincerity in an age of chic cynicism. It was a privilege to work with him on editing some of the lyrics which eventually became this album. The Thoreau and Frost-inflected ideas and Beatlesque sense of structure renew one's faith in the power of songs.

5 out of 5 stars terrific album.......1999-10-15

This is a terrific record, unabashed acoustic folk in a very electric age. Makes it sound a little edgy and risky, even. Excellent songwriting and fine hooks, which bring a lot of classic tunes to mind but don't rip anyone off. I particularly like the sophisticated attack in the songs, poking deep into love and life and totally avoiding the "oh ain't love grand" simplicities...a thoughtful and tuneful album. We likes.

5 out of 5 stars Pop-folk with an attitude.......1999-09-16

This album was a refreshing change from the folk music I've been exposed to up to this point. "Mother, Mother" in particular had a nice feel...
