Australian Karen Jacobsen's "Being Brave" is a sweet EP. With only 6 tracks, it's all too brief. Her songs are backed with piano, recalling the classic piano-singers like Laura Nyro & Carole King. Like both Nyro & King, one never feels like there's something missing because it's just the woman & her piano. She has a gorgeous voice soaring like a cloud and then breaking with fragility on the opener "Real," "Please don't say all the things I want to hear; please be true to the depth of your heart." Her voice has a beautiful clarity like a soulful Judy Collins. On "Here in My Heart" her voice achieves maximum lift-off, "Connected from soul to wandering soul." Karen's confident piano pounds then reduces to a tinkle on "The Game." "I'm hurt & I'm sad; I want to forget every lovely time we had," she sings on the clever "Hurt." Like Laura Nyro, Jacobsen's song structures are fluid, speeding up and slowing down to reflect an ever-changing emotional climate as on "Happy Endings." The CD concludes with the cheerful "Being Brave." As her fan base from New York City will tell you, Karen Jacobsen is more than a new discovery. U snooze, U lose! Enjoy!

This is the most incredible, haunting, true to life listening experience ever. I LOVE her voice, which sends shivers up my spine. I can't understand how Karen is not yet a superstar. The melodies and the lyrics speak volumes. It is truly a personal, getting to know you session just listening. I feel like my best friend is baring her soul. Love it! In fact I'm buying a bunch to give out as Christmas gifts for all my friends. Please keep making music and continue to Be Brave!
