Tank, on Sex, Love & Pain, is like Luther Vandross only slightly lewder: He'll be the first to admit, as he does on the three-part opening track "Coldest," that he's "somewhat of a hustler out here on the street... occasional strip clubs and shots of Hennessy." That doesn't stop him from laying his heart on the line, though. Repeatedly. Midtempo grooves like "I'm Coming Home," a hopeful reunion song, and "Heartbreaker," a limber-voiced lament that outlines a crumbled relationship, show Tank's tender side and take the romantically inclined places more real-seeming than Luther's songs. Throughout the long lineup of love-gone-wrong tracks, the brawny guy with the tattooed back doesn't forget his playful side, either. Before Timbaland sidles up and gets closing track "I Love Them Girls" all trademark-sizzly, Tank does some titillating of his own via the sexed-up steamer "My Body." --Tammy La Gorce

Lovin This CD.......2007-07-13
This cd stays in constant rotation in my player at work and home. I love the whole cd, especially "My Body" and "Who Dat". Tank out did himself on this one.
Left alot to be desired.......2007-07-04
Anticipated this album so much, but it turned out to be a let down. Most of the songs sounded the same, you would think he would write himself a lot of #1 hits as he has done for others but it just wasn't the case here. I really gave it a 3 because I still think he is so sexy.
BANGING.......2007-07-03
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST AND BANGING CD I HAVE PURCHASED. I AM LOOKING FOR TO THE NEW CD FROM TANK, TYRESE AND GUIWINE. SORRY IF I SPELLED SOMETHING WRONG. I LISTEN TO THIS EACH AND EVERYDAY. GOOD JOB TANK
Hmm, not much here.......2007-06-30
I'm so sorry but this album did nothing for me. I keep buying his albums and he keeps having like a good 3 songs on each album that I totally love. I dubbed a copy and sold the orginal.
There may be someone out there that likes this album but it just wasn't working for me.
Sorry.
Welcome Back Tank!.......2007-06-27
I have always been a huge fan of Tank and now it's official! Tank is what the world of R&B needs right now! My favorite songs on this CD are:
3. My Body
4. Please Don't Go
7. Who Dat
11. I Love U
I would have given this CD 5 stars but I'm not crazy about the songs Wedding Song and My Heart. But I would recommend this CD to anyone who is a fan of real R&B music!

On Street Love, Lloyd packs in the urban-tough reputation he was going for on 2004's Southside and becomes, unmistakably, a sweetie. His heart beats for two on "Valentine." He whispers candy-coated nothings on the title track. And by the time we're nine songs in, the man has sunk, love-scorched, to his knees. Which turns out to be a pretty great position for him to make a record from, actually. Lloyd's shift to the soft side on this well-executed sophomore set will cause the inevitable comparisons to the reigning king of all R&B love-song crooners, Usher. But it shouldn't. Mr. Polite, as the well-acquainted call him, is a different sort of singer entirely: sub out the realistic, realtionshippy lyrics for something sensational, and he could be Michael Jackson. That he chooses to hang his songs on relatable scenes (like "Killing Me," at the club) gives us a glimmer of what a street-loving, lady-killing Michael might have sounded like. And then the disc adds a little more: the soul-leaning joint "Hazel" hints at stylistic leaps to come, and "I Want You (remix)," with Andre 3000 and Nas, is as satisfying a kicker as we've seen in 2007. --Tammy La Gorce

music lover.......2007-07-12
I must say with the slump that R&B is in Lloyd's cd was refreshing. He did an excellent job on this album..nice flow..all the songs are real nice. My favorites are "Valentine" and "One for me" using the art of noise for that track was hot!! ..I recommend this cd to music lovers..
Sexy, soul with a little street flair..........2007-07-09
Lloyd did a great job on this album, he mixes street hip-hop beats with a nice smooth, mellow sound. Reminds me so much of a young Michael Jackson...almost a little TOO much. But, it's still great. The Hazel song is about weed...LOL. Like that one, like Valentine, You, Get it Shawty...he's got some hot songs on here. I think any girl would love to have this in her collection to ride to in the whip.
he has really grown alot on this one.......2007-06-30
he did a really good job of balancing his style of singing with hip hop, traditional r&b, and the newer stylings of r&b. much better than his first cd.
Pleasantly Surprised.......2007-06-28
I'm new to this artist. But after I heard the "You" remix with 3000 and Nas, I figured, why not just buy it, and I'm glad I did. I was blown away! His vocals, subject matters, and dance tracks are outstanding. And, although he is a "youngen" (as we call them in my hood), he comes with a (very) mature approach; especially tracks 5, 8, and 11. Even the CD title perfectly fits the music this artist has created. This CD is in heavy rotation in my house.
Even Better The Second Time Around!.......2007-06-26
This is definitely a welcome surprise coming from this young cat who used to rep for his label Murder Inc to the fullest (he's now reportedly managed by Sho Nuff Entertainment with an eventual move to Jazze Pha's label in the coming year or so). And with that came a sudden switch in his musical styling, resorting more on down-to-earth ballads with a charming quality behind them instead of the rough and tough image that was basically ingrained into him. And even though the new CD is called Street Love, it isn't nearly as 'hood' as other recent offerings in the R&B market. His breakout single "You" with Lil Wayne got the kind of buzz most artists wish they could pull off on a sophomore effort. "Get It Shawty" is grimy enough for the younger crowd, but catchy enough for the club crowd to enjoy. "Incredible" will make you immediately compare Lloyd to Michael Jackson, but thankfully his charisma is more believable over an edgier urban beat than most of the futile attempts by the King of Pop. Other standouts have to be "Certified," "I Don't Mind," and "Player's Prayer" (the latter is a serious contender for the next single). "Killing Me" and "Valentine" both revert back to early M.J., "Streetlove" sounds suspiciously like "Promise" by Ciara but still delivers nonetheless, and "Hazel" uses a unique storytelling approach for the lyrics (and makes the name Hazel sound a lot better than Gertrude!). He closes out the album with "One For Me" which uses the beat from the infamous "Moments In Love" beat from Art of Noise, and Andre 3000 and Nas put it down for the "You" remix. Lloyd has his eye on the prize, and the magnetism of Street Love will certainly keep everybody looking at the rising superstar for years to come.

Album Description
Although she was born and bred in Italy, Gambarini brings a distinctly American jazz flavor to Easy to Love. On the title track, her multi-octave range can be seen as an indication of the "cool school" but when she starts swinging she's anything but cool! Her scats and melodies breathe beautifully and her melodic lines have a lighter, airier quality that finds her swinging but in a softer, more relaxed manner. Billie Holiday's anthem "Lover Man" has been claimed as part of the cool jazz movement and Gambarini certainly offers an outstanding variation of this sublime ballad. Even Gershwin would have enjoyed her passionate reworking of "Porgy, I's Your Woman Now/I Loves You Porgy." Gambarini is equally successful at presenting this Great American Songbook standard as a medley of sentimentality with a range of penetrating cries and whispers implicated in her voice. From ballads to bop, Roberta proves she's no stranger to the art of swing or the bop idiom. Once into "On The Sunny Side of The Street" she teases with playful scats and daring vocalese that would renew anyone's vocal jazz ambitions. "Lover Come Back To Me" adopts a different tonal palette as she launches into a swinging set complete with searing scats that clearly show her respect for Ella Fitzgerald. Joined by the inimitable James Moody on tenor sax and vocals on "Lover Man" and "Centerpiece," the saxophonist adds his instinct for melodic development and own brand of scatting. Adding further to Gambarini's style is a mellifluous but dynamic ensemble that includes Chuck Berghofer and John Clayton on bass, Tamir Handelman and Gerald Clayton on piano, Willie Jones III and Joe La Barbera on drums.

Once again - THANK YOU AMAZON REVIEWERS!.......2007-07-13
I might not have discovered this wonderful treasure (what a voice!) if it hadn't been for Amazon and the wonderful reviews written about this amazing talent. Thank you in particular to my Amazon friend Mary Whipple (her review, along with 'Mr. Jim' are my personal favorites and there is nothing I can pen in my review that could top their efforts) who really persuaded me to make this purchase. As an avid fan of JAZZ music, I have to say that I am absolutely thrilled to have discovered this remarkable vocalist. My personal opinion is that she is the best thing to happen to jazz music in the past twenty years. Just listen to this incredible debut recording and see for yourself.
I can guaranty this Italian bella from Milan will knock your socks off! Also, much credit needs to be given to the wonderful musicians behind the beautiful voice - Chuck Berghofer and John Clayton (bass), Gerald Clayton and Tamir Hendelman (Piano), Joe La Barbera and Willie Jones III (Drums), and a special guest performance by James Moody (Tenor Saxophone, Vocals).
Thank you again Amazon and you wonderful reviewers!
A talent in progress!.......2007-06-27
Roberta Gambarini, although her youth, demonstrates a profound sense of expression and sense of the meaning in every song she sings. She has generated around her a lot of succesful comments, but mostly what it really amazes me is her profound commitment and multidimensional range.
The arrangements are really superb and I don't hesitate for a second. She is one of the great jazz singers in this early Century.
Vite la suite !.......2007-06-16
ROBERTA GAMBARINI, une voix qui me laisse sans voix, LA DEESSE DU SWING.
J'attends avec impatience, courant juin, la sortie de son CD "You are there" en duo avec HANK JONES.
G.B.
Hoo, boy, is this "easy to love"!.......2007-06-09
In a landmark CD, more than seventy-seven gorgeous minutes long, Roberta Gambarini makes a breath-taking debut that should propel her to the top of the jazz world at a very young age. With her warm, full, alto voice and a deliberately understated accompaniment, often just a bass and piano, Gambarini does it all, from a capella intros in songs like "Easy to Love" (one of the best on the CD), to blues (in "Multi-Colored Blue," another standout), and lots of scat in "Lover Come Back to Me," which also features a terrific drum solo by Joe La Barbera. In "Centerpiece" she even duets with growly-voiced James Moody, the tenor sax player here, whose bass voice sets off her clear alto as she soars into soprano range.
Through out this terrific CD, Gambarini shows total control, suggesting, on many occasions, the work, of a very young Sarah Vaughan. Her diction, in which you can hear her T's and R's very clearly, and her often interesting phrasing, which enable her to convey a thought beyond the usual line length, sometimes at considerable speed, keep the listener intrigued on a level beyond sound. This is not to underestimate her gorgeous sound, but to point out that her technique enhances it in ways many other singers can only dream of.
I have listened to this CD so often, with so much pleasure, finding new things to like on each hearing, that it is difficult to choose a favorite track, but certainly "On the Sunny Side of the Street," not normally a song I like, would have to rank right up there. Here she plays with high notes and then plunges almost to bass range, using a great deal of scat, accompanied by bass (Chuck Berghofer) and wailing sax (James Moody), until she is vamping at the end of the song. "Multi-Colored Blue" is another great one, her scat set off by the bass and piano (Tamir Hendelman).
Very much in the tradition of the great women of jazz of the '50s through the '70s, Gambarini adds a personal touch and a young energy to many standards, creating her own sound and, undoubtedly, a jazz reputation among young singers. Sometimes so inspired by the instrumental melodies that she creates her own lyrics to accompany them, Gambarini does it all here. I cannot recommend a CD by a young singer more highly! n Mary Whipple
"Easy to Love" is a gem!.......2007-06-09
After so many repeated listenings in my car stereo, let me honestly state that Ms. Gambarini is among the best of the newer female jazz singers to arrive on the scene in perhaps the last 25 years. Her vocal style is purely her own, and should NOT be compared to the great singers that came before her.
This CD showcases Roberta and a fantastic array of musicians jamming it up - though every track is great, I have to cite two of my personal favorites - "Centerpiece" (with James Moody on sax and one heck of a scat duet with Roberta) and "Multi-Colored Blue," a Billy Strayhorn tune I've never heard of before.
Looking forward to the next album!!!

The perfect timing of Beyonce Knowles' career moves continues with the release of her debut solo album. Dangerously in Love's best music is wildly up-to-date, craftily designed for both maximum street acceptance and positioning as some of the most cutting-edge stuff on current radio. The brash first single, "Crazy in Love," melds Jay-Z with an unstoppable Chi-Lites horn sample, shape-shifting into something brand new. Collaborations with Outkast's Big Boi and Sean Paul also prick up the ears, while changes of pace like "Be with You" and "Speechless" achieve their aim with credibility. The disc becomes far too ballad heavy in its second half, but the key stuff is the noise she brings. --Rickey Wright

DAM GOOD!!!! .....No matter what , some of the other reviewers have to say!!.......2007-06-08
If you only like her up beat songs like crazy in love, you do not appreciate her as an artist!. On this cd for me 10/15 tracks are good example, Yes... some people would not think mush of as it is not great song writing but sometimes simple things can work!. I think that is one of the reasons R&B is in the bad state it is in today, as all these record company's want from their artist is to write songs about the same old topics because they think that is what will sell and they brain wash the world into thinking like them,(starting with the teens as these topics are more or less new to them and they forget that people gow up and by the time they get to their late 20't 30't they are fed up of these same topics, especially if they are into the old R&B also) so that is all most people want and other more creative songs, will never be considered to be released as singles, keeping today's R&B down in the rubbish bin. One other example of this (a little better song writing on this one) is Signs, different! new! a great song!( I know of Tyrese's signs, good also).
The other tracks most people know... Be With You, Me Myself And I, Baby Boy, Naughty Girl, Dangerously In Love and Work It Out, more or less in order of quality, bonnie and Clyde with JayZ are all good songs, making this cd a must have.
mixed reviews, I'll give it a 3.5.......2007-04-27
crazy in love, baby boy and naughty girl are the big dance numbers on this album and all 3 were huge hits in 2003 and 2004, but you won't find the rest of the album sounding like those 3 songs. The rest is full of ballads and mid tempo r&b tracks, only 4 to 5 of which I truly enjoy including me myself & I, daddy, be with you, signs, speechless and of course dangerously in love, which originally appeared on the destiny's child survivor album.
If you're a fan of beyonce, I guess you will enjoy this album a lot, but I prefer the B'day album so much more, I can listen to that from start to finish without getting bored, while with this CD I can't sit through the whole thing though the songs I do love are well done.
3 1/2 Stars...Not Great But Better Than B'day.......2007-03-16
I was very anxious about getting this album but it didn't meet up to all the hype it was getting. The best tracks are the ballads "Speechless & "The Closer I Get To You", "Crazy In Love". It was nothing incredible but not a complete disappointment. She's alot better in the group with the material that's presented on the albums especially Destiny Fulfilled. Don't bother with B'day, it only has 10 tracks and doesn't pay to have an album that doesn't live up to the hype.
2nd time buying.......2007-01-10
I played the first one so much, I had to buy it again.
Dangerously in love is still my favorite.
Thanks B.
I love this CD, but B'Day is better!.......2007-01-07
Beyonce's debut "Dangerously In Love" is amazing. I love "Crazy In Love", and for the rest of the album it is great. But the beat is digital, and it's like Pop music and Beyonce has a R&B/Soul voice, and on her "B'Day" album she shows her vocal talents and I love it!

Here are three dozen pieces of music, all played by Yo-Yo Ma, culled from his extensive discography. Aside from the technical mastery and beautiful tone that are absolutes in all of his playing, one is dazzled by his curiosity and ability to adapt to so many forms and types of music. His Bach and Vivaldi are pellucid and played with non-sentimental crispness, his tango music gritty and rhythmically pungent, his jazz seemingly spontaneous, the "Meditation" from Thais simply ravishing, "Anything Goes" a romp, and the Appalachian music performed with both respect and a great twang, while the traditional Chinese music is fascinating. It's really a matter of how much Ma loves whatever he plays here, how entirely he becomes involved in it, and what a fine partner he invariably is to other musicians. This collection is a doozy--it is truly "essential." --Robert Levine
Customer Reviews:
pure genius.......2007-05-21
No instrument asks more from the soul of an artist as the cello does.
Yo Yo Ma shows to be master of the instrument and his interpretations en technique are pure genius. Everyone should have this album in his (or hers of course) basic classical collection
Another great Yo-Yo Disc.......2007-05-15
The set-up with the classical pieces on the first disc and the other on the second is excellent.
first disc great- second a flop.......2007-04-12
the first disc is awesome. the second disc is weird and boring.
Encore.......2007-03-31
Incredible. My young cellist (son) loves it. Beautiful music. The album is well organized and each song transitions nicely.
The Versatile Yo-Yo Ma.......2007-03-29
I've found this collection to be extremely delightful! It gives you a sense of the versatility of Yo-Yo Ma like no other, with one disc being dedicated more to his classical side, while the other explores jazz and world music venues. Not your typical "greatest hits" collection.

Cynical types will accuse Disney of milking the "greatest" concept until it's drier than Tinkerbell's fairy dust ("Supercalafragilisticexpealidocious," "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Da," and "Heigh Ho" were hits off of Vol. 1; "Bare Necessities," "It's a Small World," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come" stole the show on Vol. 2), but a glimpse of this installment's track listing is all it'll take to squash their suspicions. Once again running reverse-chronologically, Vol. 3 opens with Jonatha Brooke's gorgeously achy ballad "I'll Try," from 2002's arguably not-so-great Return to Neverland, and gradually reaches back through the years to re-raise the curtain on Toy Story 2 ("When She Loved Me," performed by Sarah McLachlan), The Lion King ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight"), Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews's classic "A Spoonful of Sugar"), Pinocchio ("Give a Little Whistle"), and a bundle of treasured others, bottoming out at 1933's "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" from The Three Little Pigs. Vol. 3 is not without its weak moments--would a G-rated movie-goers' poll produce Beauty and the Beast's "Gaston" or The Hunchback of Notre Dame's "Topsy Turvy" on a hits list? Seems unlikely. Still, the bulk of these tracks are, as the included Little Mermaid song goes, "Part of Your World," and the spread of decades they represent proves their staying power. Don't expect Disney to latch the lid on its inexhaustible archives until a dozen or so of these records, each as strong as the next, beckon you back for more. --Tammy La Gorce

Disney's greatest hits, volum 3.......2007-05-13
This is one of the better volums for kids and for those who are
above 18 but still have some kid in them
Timeless Disney Music.......2007-05-07
Nothing brings sweet recollection of Disney movies like hearing the wonderful songs. In an age where there so much music with no redeeming qualities, these Disney CDs are priceless. Wonderful for the entire family to listen to around the house or in the car while traveling. We can't help but sing along. We love that these are the original tracks from the movies! Wonderful! We now have all three volumes.
Disney songs are the best.......2006-03-18
I love the songs on this volume. I'll Try by Jonatha Brooke is such an amzing somg. I especially bought this CD fort that song but, was pleasantly surprsed by the rest of the playlist.
Great Disney Music.......2006-02-21
I have bought the first 2 volumes of Disney's Greatest Hits and the 3rd volume doesn't disapoint. My 2 young children love to listen to this CD and talk about the movies that they come from. A definate must have!
Not as good as Vol 1 and Vol 2.......2005-09-11
This Disney CD represents the "leftovers" that didn't make it on Vol 1 and Vol 2 of this series. Although it has some of my favorites, I don't listen to the entire CD often. Disney could have done a better job of editing the which sound files should make the cut on this one. Still, it's nice to have all 3 CDs.

Kindred.......2007-03-28
Being from Philly, I was able to see them in concert at the Five Spot
(Black Lily) and was blown away by the two of them. Their music is welcoming, it's peaceful and soulful. I asked her to perform "Stars" for me and my husband. It was unbelievable. Every Tuesday their band would head to the stage and the rest is as they say history.
Thanks Kindred
GROWN FOLK MUSIC.......2007-03-13
This husband and wife team is just awesome. The band and background singers are superb as well. One of my favorite cuts is "Stars", which is lush, sexy and just plain old beautiful. I would want my husband to feel that way about me!!! Ursual Rucker the diva griot does her thing and does it well on the cut "We", exhorting togetherness which is like the song says a beautiful thing. I even like the intro with Ryva and her british lilt! My favorite song is "I AM" which is so girl power and motivating. Go get this album because it is worth while.
Very Good CD.......2007-03-09
THIS WAS A VERY GOOD EASY LISTENING, HEART WARMING, AND LOVING CD.
Very satisfied.......2007-02-22
I received this item quickly and its in very good condition. I am happy with this selection.
Bought It Twice.......2006-12-27
I bought this CD for my husband the week it came out, about 3 years ago. I claimed it as my own, soon after. He reclaimed it and took it to the barber shop where he worked and someone walked out with it. I was crushed! So I bought it again this year, along with the new CD. You can't get good music like this. Uncommercialized and great for all moods.
My husband and I go see them in concert, everytime they come to Detroit. They are a dynamic duo. I hope they don't fall prey to the industry, as their look is evolving into what records exec would have you look like, rather than the natural look, I'm come to expect. Nevertheless.......I am a fan and will continue to be. I highly recommend this CD and the new one. Look out for those hidden tracks.....gems to say the least.

Diana Ross may have hand-selected the 14 songs on this disc, but as its executive producer she didn't do her domineering reputation justice. Arrangements sag when they should snap-to. At times they're dozy. Occasionally, as in Berlin's "Take My Breath Away," they drown themselves in melancholy. But the good news is that they don't pull Diana's vocals down with them. There are moments on I Love You when the world's most distinguished diva positively purrs (Harry Nilsson's classic "Remember," which opens and closes the disc), and others when she digs deep ("To Be Loved"); 40-plus years into her career, her voice is still her own. In addition to the arrangements, problems with this imperfect disc include the songs themselves which, in this age of carefully calculated comebacks, could have been better edited (Spiral Staircase's "More Today Than Yesterday" is Ross's speed; Paul McCartney's contemplative "I Will" isn't). Still, when Diana goes for redemption she does it up big, true to form, and where I Love You redeems itself best is on its sole original composition. Title track "I Love You" is pure valentine; a heartfelt burst that, in three sweetly sung words, speaks volumes. --Tammy La Gorce

i love diana.......2007-07-03
how lovely to hear something new from diana good album of covers if not alittle strange choice ie crazy little thing called love didnt get that one at all stick to what your so fab at doing the love songs the rest of the album is great
Love Conquers Everything.......2007-06-24
I saw Diana Ross on American Idol and decided to purchase this CD. 'I Love You' is fun, a lilting ride and an aural experience into the genre of love. Diana Ross never sounded better. The choice of material is timeless. The classic material is not your typical standards, but standards they are! With each listen it gets better. 'You Take My Breath' away is a fresh breeze from a cannon of contempory favorites. 'Lovely Day' sets the tone for top notch productions and vocal interpretations. Other standouts include 'To Be Loved', 'Remember', "More Today Than Yesterday' and 'The Look of Love'. Play it for a while and you'll discover several classics that you never heard before. A very enjoyable experience--try it you'll love it.
Diana Still Reigns Supreme!.......2007-06-09
I generally only write book reviews but I want to get my two cents worth in on this most recent CD by Diana Ross. I have been a fan of Diana since her early days with The Supremes. I am proud to say I have a copy of everything she has ever recorded. Saw her live once again last year, at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, and let me tell you the girl still has it goin' on! She looked marvelous (as usual) and her voice was in prime form. The evening (a one night only) was sold out. The audience was mostly filled with her die hard fans and the evening was a very special one. I was glad and anxious to get my copy of "I Love You" and I think it is OK. There is still room for another hit from this Diva. Personally, my favorite cut on the CD is "I Want You", the old Marvin Gaye hit (this song was actually written by Diana's brother). I wish she would release it as a single and maybe do some remixes. I also really enjoy her rendition of "Only You" originally sung by The Plattters. I am disappointed that the album has so many covers, ultimately, I would like to see her release a CD that has all new material, I truly believe she has a few more hits in her. As some other reviewers have suggested, she should turn over the management of her career to someone who will promote her as she should be promoted. She has been a pioneer in the industry and she should be respected for all that she has accomplished and done in paving the way for the diva's that have come after her. Diana Ross is a fabulous performer, she doesn't have the strongest voice in the world these days (as was evidenced by her AI performance) but she most definitely still reigns supreme!
Excellent CD from the greatest Pop/R&B Diva.......2007-06-04
I have watched Diana Ross perform in Madison Square Garden, Wembley Arena and The Point in Dublin. She is in fine form and continues to be one of the greatest concert performers of all time.
The I Love You CD is a well balanced, well produced easy listening CD that is refreshing. It is the type of CD that grows on you. Highlights include: I Want You, What About Love, Lovely Day, I Love You and my favorite, Always and Forever.
If you want to know what excellent music is all about, buy this CD for your personal collection. Give it also as a gift to friends and loved ones. You won't regret it.
When Will This Diva Get the Respect She Deserves?.......2007-05-17
I have been a Supremes fan since the first strains of "When the Lovelight Starts Shining in His Eyes." There was something about this group and the nicotine-soprano lead of Diane Ross that set them apart from all the other groups. This talented combination hit the stratosphere. But in this country what goes up must eventually come down and stories of tantrums, ego, love affairs with influential people, and diva-like behavior followed La Ross and eventually led to the downfall of that group. Mary struggled mightily to keep the group going and The Supremes came up with some major hits (Up The Ladder, Stoned Love, Floy Joy, Nathan Jones, River Deep Mountain High). However without Ross, Motown lost interest and the group died.
Here is my point. The stories about Miss Ross may be true but she has to be irritated and upset about her and The Supremes treatment by the press and industry. Diana and the Supremes paved the way for all female rock acts that came after them. They "crossed" and in that journey brought many acts with them, not just from Motown. They also elevated the glamour of Afro-American women in a way that not had happened since Lena Horne. When I was a child, we waited with baited breath for every Supreme appearance on television, whether it be on Andy Williams, Ed Sullivan, or a Rodgers & Hart special with The Mamas and the Papas. At one time, only The Supremes, Lena Horne, Sammy Davis Jr. and the still brilliant Leslie Uggams were the only African-Americans seen regularly on television.
The Supremes and Diana never got their true due. Besides the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame few honors have come their way and none during their heyday. They never won a Grammy or even a special Grammy for that matter. And during their tenure as the most successful female group of all time and only 2nd to the Beatles in popularity, they were constantly attacked. The critics said they were too "white", too made-up, too much. Yet they could sing a Rodgers and Hart Medley, sing several of their #1 hits, sing someone else's hits, do a tribute to Sam Cooke, do a Broadway medley and get a thunderous standing ovation. Without extra voices, dancers running around them, triple tracking or lipsynching, just three talented, beautiful ladies at the microphone. We will never see the likes of it again (Listen to Diana Ross and the Supremes Live at London's Talk of the Town).
As for "I Love You." it is not her best album. Ashford and Simpson produced her best work. However, it is wonderful to hear that supreme voice not damaged by age or stimulants (take a listen to the latest Dionne Warwick duets ablum and you will know what I mean). She could have tried to do a hip hop album or even gone country, but she stuck to what she does best. I am not in love with some of the arrangements but considering she could not get a record deal in the states (I guess you have to be 23 to get one these days) and had to go to England to record it on very little money, that is a quibble. After 44 years to have Diana Ross sound like... well... like Diana Ross, is a joy.
I believe that if anyone ever "really" says thank you to La Ross for what she has achieved and how she has paved the way for others who came behind her and The Supremes, she will go into a studio and come up with something from her heart that will be tremendous. The chops are still there. Until then..."I Love You" more than fills the bill.

WOW!.......2007-06-27
I purchased the Isley Brothers CD for a gift. The recipient loved it so much, she recommended it to all of her friends. It was best compilation of love songs.
Love it!.......2007-01-28
This music is the bomb,, easy listening ,makes you think about the special people in your life or the journey that has taken place in your life.great music to have. I highly recommend it.
A lovemaking album, from start to finish!!!!!.......2007-01-26
The Isley Brothers at its finest. I bought this cd in April 2001, and on May 5th, 2001, it set the mood. My ex and I made love, and this cd was playing. Before we made love, he looked at me, and said, What you know about the Isley Brothers? I answered a lot. I know one thing: Their slow jams definitely set the tone. Every track is sensational, especially Sensuality!!!( Every day, I dream of holding you close to me, every night I find, me touching your lips with mine)!!! Come on, it doesn't get any better than this. I can guarantee you that this cd, will put you in the mood. Maybe for baby making, or just making love with that special someone.
creme de la creme from the soul balladeers.......2007-01-14
Possibly one of the best soul groups in history, The Isley Brohters have countless music from a half century span of time. My favorites of their work consist of their slow and slower mid-tempo love jams, which is why I am so into this love songs collective. Most of my favorite songs like "For The Love Of You," "Between The Sheets," "Footsteps In The Dark," "Make Me Say It Again, Girl'" and a personal fav, the spiritual and mystical "Voyage to Atlantis," one of the best songs of any genre ever conceived. Unfortunately, "Caravan Of Love" by Isley, Jasper, Isley is not here, perhaps for it not being a slower jam. Regardless, Love Songs is an awesome intro or reflective of the Isley family genius.
REAL BABY MAKIN MUSIC.......2007-01-11
THIS CD IS NOTHIN BUT THE TRUTH! LOVE ME SOME ISLEY BROS.I GREW UP LISTENING TO THEM AS A KID, AND BELIEVE ME, I SEE WHY THEY ARE STILL AROUND! THEY GO BACK SOME 50 YEARS AND STILL IN THE GAME , DESPITE HIS LEGAL TROUBLES. THE CD ITSELF IS BABY MAKIN MUSIC. ALL THE SONGS PUT YOU IN A SENSUAL MOOD! TRUE ISLEY BROS FANS WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED! BUY THIS CD, YOU WILL LOVE IT AS I DO!
