5 out of 5 stars Very surprising stuff.......1999-10-15

When I bought this CD in the sale section of my neighborhood musicstore for just 10 Guilders (5 US$) I thought the guys in the store had gone nuts. Cause after I got home and played the CD I was amazed. These guys found a really cool sound. Every now and then some bits reminded me of Lenny Kravitz and Air and Groove Armada, all beutifully embedded on cool waves of flowing trip-hop/acid-jazz. This is definitively a CD that you put on when you come home from a long day at work, it will take all your troubles away (including sore feet).

beats, beats, beats-all I hear anymore are beats. but in this era of the deconstructed groove, it's a relief to run across a duo who are willing to put the pieces back together rather than jaggedly attempting to trip up my natural bodily rythyms. Project coordinators Steve Greenwell and Ron Paul reenvision dance track construction as a sonic jigsaw puzzle, carefully fitting the edges of their horn licks and piano flourishes into the matching groove of their bass bump and steady state drumming. They have an unerring sense of what elements complement one another though their expertise leads them to blend their components so seamlessly that their music often glides past with a deceptive ease. there's no tension, no release, and little drama to their compositions. Though you maay have to fine-tune your ears a tad, you'll find that eventually, Project Pollen's craft reveals itself. And when you choose to let it fade into your environment, Project Pollen's music has the gently calmative effect that most easy listening electro-beat is too vague or atmospheric to summon. The group establishes moods without straining themselves to act moodily, and, unlike many of their slow pulsed peers, they never drench their cuts in washy electric piano as a shortcut to relaxation. ALTERNATIVE PRESS MARCH 98 4 OF 5 FINGERS.
