Stay Away.......2006-01-05
While the piping is excellent, the audio, particularly in the first half of the cd is terrible. Nearly 15 minutes are almost indecipherable. I think the recording was made with a hand held mike at the edge of a field.
Edinburgh Military Tattoo.......2001-05-19
The Edinburgh Military Tattoo first started in 1947 with some spirited displays of army piping and dancing. Since that time the show has grown to become a world class act, unfortunately losing some of its traditional elements along the way. The word "Tattoo" is a corruption of the Dutch "Doe den Taptoe" which literary means "turn off the taps", a reference to when a lone drummer would play a "tattoo" or drum roll to signal the inkeeprs to stop serving beer and to summon the troops back to barracks. This ceremony was performed by the British while they were in the low countries during the early 18th century, but it is a custom common to many armies of that time, in particular the various German princeapalities of the day. Over time the Tattoo evolved into a more elaborate affair as more bands and musicians were drawn into its fare. What we have here is the modern development of the form started in previous centuries. The Edinburgh Tattoo is justly famed for its display of massed pipes and bands, and while the recording quality here is not the best, the listener can still get a good idea of the spectacle produced. The original recording of this 1972 show was recorded by EMI, but this version is a knock-off cut that was done by a small American record firm, and which since has been sold about in various forms as a popular item. It is unfortunate that we don't have a better version of the show for listeners than this. The Tattoo produces a recording every year, as well as a video which can be obtained by contacting the Edinburgh Military Tattoo via their website which can be found using any search engine. The good thing about this recording is that it does provide a glimpse of the show in its heyday, where modern fluff and show biz influences had not crept in as much as they have today. For this reason this CD is worth having, and serves as an introduction to this great pageant of the Scottish regiments and the British army. Even though the show is watered down today with pop elements, the grandeur is still there when the massed pipes and drums march out onto the castle esplanade playing the grand old tunes. Even the politically correct producers can't ruin this grand sight, and its hoped they never will!
Not like being there, but a good appetizer.......2000-11-23
The producers and engineers for this CD are to be commended for the remarkable quality they obtained on this outdoor recording! While not quite like being there, it does convey the spirit and energy of the Tattoo.
Pipes and Drums: Amazing Grace.......2000-06-11
I love the sound of the pipes for this one song, and is my favorite.

The line between evangelist and entertainer has always been somewhat indistinct. But as showcased on this 43-track, double-disc collection culled from his '87-'96 recordings for Elektra/Nonesuch/Atlantic, Michael Feinstein's dedication to spreading the gospel of the American song often blurs it beyond recognition. While the singer's pedigree for the task is impeccable (a long-term stint as Ira Gershwin's assistant and early career sponsorship by Liza Minnelli), his interpretations often succeed by playing off a tense axis of fervent emotionalism and a joyous sense of irreverence.
If his readings of romantic standards can sometimes tend toward the precious, they're often balanced here by sheer dramatic power and telling insights ("Isn't It Romantic" fairly bristles with ironic chauvinism) and a few loopy curves ("The Mole People," the Sherman Brothers' "The Ugly Bug Ball," and the previously unreleased "Rhode Island Is Famous for You"). Feinstein's dedicated song archaeology is also showcased on several gems: "Violin," a duet with Liza Minnelli; "My Favorite Year," a rejected ballad for the film of that name; the sublime "lost" Gershwin classic "Ask Me Again."
Sprinkled with live performances (the forum where Feinstein's talents seem most energized) and studio outtakes and featuring a lengthy print interview with the singer, the set chronicles both the pioneering efforts of one of pop music's most successful revivalists and, crucially, the cream of his beloved American songwriters, from stalwarts Gershwin, Berlin, and Porter to later legends like Herman, Styne, Lane, Martin, and Mercer. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:
Mixed feelings.......2005-10-05
This album has some GREAT songs on it; sophisticated swing being one of my favorites. However many of the other songs are too operatic and lame. I give three stars but this album is definatly worth it just for some of the better songs.
Your love for this superb collection will be here to stay..........2002-07-18
The magnificently talented Michael Feinstein has made one wonderful album after another for nearly two decades. Now that Elektra and Rhino have put together this anthology, I am blown away by the versatility and diversity in Feinstein's recorded output. Such amazing rare gems, combined with the most beloved favorites in the history of American Popular Song. Assembled with wit, intelligence, and obvious affection on the part of the record company, this set is a keeper. You'll love it!
He's done it again.......2002-07-15
Is there anything this man can't sing? This collection is so varied as to be the definitive collection of songs for any occassion.
This is perfect background music for a dinner party for a whole group but especially for two. Light, romantic and just gorgeous. You just can't go wrong when Michael Feinstein is your musical choice.
Way to go Michael, you've done it again!
Absolutely 'S WONDERFUL!.......2002-06-10
There are very few contemporary performers who can hold their own with the truly great interpreters of American popular song. Michael Feinstein is truly the ONLY performer of the "younger" generation who really understands what these songs are all about. His incredible knowledge of this music, and his enthusiasm and passion for it have fueled his career. Rhino Records has done a truly outstanding job of putting together an anthology that exemplifies why Mr. Feinstein has become so beloved by audiences around the world. The packaging is excellent, and filled with interesting photos and background information about many of the selections.
This collection not only contains all the favorites one would expect, but a neat group of surprises too. I especially love the duets with people like Liza Minnelli and Rosemary Clooney, and the various collaborative efforts with songwriters like Jule Styne and Burton Lane accompanying Michael at the piano.
This collection is a classic to be treasured. Bravo Michael!
Bravo Rhino!
A beautiful 2 disc CD-another hit for Michael.......2002-06-09
I have every CD Michael has ever made and this is by far one of the best ones because of Michael's range in singing and his wonderful singing voice. I love his duets with Rosemary Clooney and Liza Minelli. He is a wonderful performer on this double CD and am looking foward to the next CD.

Interesting French Horn Music.......1999-12-17
Fans and performers of French horn music will enjoy the Rhapsody and Rondo for Horn and Orchestra. This is a show piece, exhibiting all the techniques and acrobatics that a horn can do. But it is also pleasant, exuberant music to listen to, and is well performed here. It was written originally for Dennis Brain, and Marco Polo deserves the thanks of the French horn community for preserving this work. You won't find any other recordings of this horn piece, and this one is well worth owning.

Weaving electroclash and Euro-sleaze through a strong set of tech-pop, Miss Kittin continues to evolve on I Com. Kittin is still known primarily for the campy, droll persona she perfected while collaborating with the Hacker (First Album), and especially Felix Da Housecat (Kittenz and Thee Glitz). But she brings more to the table than just a talent for irony; her 2003 mix record Radio Caroline 1 showed off an impressive authority in the studio. I Com shows the same ear for production, and makes an admirable effort to stretch, pushing songs forward with an aggressive futurism. The formula results in songs like "Dub About Me," which uses patient, Massive Attack-like development and a rude chunk of electric noise to induce a brooding hypnosis. It's a cerebral record, but Kittin herself is such a natural tease you hardly care how much skill is involved: you'd rather grab a French-to-English dictionary to find out what salacious bits you can translate on songs like "3eme Sexe." Sophisticated and incorrigible, I Com's detached sensuality is tough to resist. --Matthew Cooke
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Solo Album.......2006-02-15
With twinges of Warp Records, Punk, and Depeche Mode, this electro album is worthy of any fan of Miss Kittin.
Is That All There Is?.......2005-10-11
No one can be miss kittin...
And no better that her to be a featured artist...
Miss Kittin & The Hacker....What a breathtaking electroclash couple...Miss kittin & felix da Housecat....Both made the best unforgiven era of contemprary glittery retro electro music with their 2001 "Kittinz & The Glitz"...Miss kittin & Golden Boy: Wild couple with a soft disguise ..With Sven Vath..They invented robotised music..but Miss Kittin Alone...I doubt it
I mean after being with these talented electro pioneers and kept joining forces that resulted very manipulative albums that every electroclash fan should buy...What do I GET? A big mass distortion of unorganised sounds that sounded very common and out of style in other times...
All trackes are okay or less...for me...the entire cd (with the exception of track one & two) misses some character of favourite kitten ...It's like a nearly talented artist made this and subjected it as a first experiance....
This is way too far for continous hearing and falling in love with....
Although I'm still a big fan of kittin...I DESCRIBE THIS AS A BIG SPOT ON HER CAREER ....If You're a collector...get it ...If not, trust me....Go to her "First Album" with The Hacker.
What's New Pussycat?.......2004-08-29
I first heard Miss Kittin (or Caroline Herve) on Felix Da Housecat's album `Kittenz and Thee Glitz' where her deadpan vocals dominated `Silver Screen Shower Scene', the best song on that album. She is also from that same electroclash scene as Chicks on Speed and Tiga.
`I Com' is her second album and is more club-friendly then her previous outing. The beats are more in your face and her sense of irony is stronger, with track 2 `Requiem for a Hit' in particular standing out. First half of the album is excellent, it does takes some more listens to get into the second half. Another good reason for owning this album is the inclusion of the video for `Professional Distortion'. An album for the suicidegirls.com generation.
so many good music out there, why wasting our time and money.......2004-08-16
As somebody else wrote earlier, it is so much great music out there that these I.Com tracks sound awfully poor and dry to me; maybe if that album would have appeared in the 90s it'd have sounded slightly more surprising, but just a few weeks before Björk releases Medulla, and definitely late after the Chicks on Speed albums (and without even 10% of their musical imagination) Miss Kittin with her new release is making electronic music sound like a joke, and conceived for people who never heard about Warp, Rephlex and the intelligent vast worlds of true electronica. To avoid.
Miss Music.......2004-08-04
She was the voice of Hacker and Felix, but i prefer she like the voice of Miss Kittin!
A real good CD with only nice tracks.
At the beginnig the sound is too similar to the new one of Felix (Davin Dazzle e the Neon Fever, another nice album in anycase!) but one you arrive into the Allergic, Soundtrack of Now, Dubt about me and Clone me (Techno ghotic dark) the sounds become more electronic (sounds likes more Herbert or Dani Siciliano).
My personal favorite songs is Happy Violentine.
Very particular I come.com (psychedelic technology lonely song)
A tribute to the French language in 3eme secle (another similar with the CD of Felix where the French tribute is with Romantique...).
But even with all this "her music history" the final resoult of the CD it's great : she has her identity, special in the lyrics where she demonstrate her volonty of freedom and anarchy far from the studios and media.
My cd has a bonus video of Professional Distortion (the hit).
If you like this Cd i suggest also the Felix da Housecat (Davin Dazzle e the Neon Fever) and Dani Siciliano (Likes)you will pass a nice summer with good music

Customer Reviews:
Great, but no prize.......2002-03-31
The selections from the Ring trilogy, Friends in need and Fallen Angel were excellent, however, some of the special request such as joxer the mighty, seemed a little bit rushed. Wasn't that song on Volume 2 already? Where was M'Lila's song from Destiny, or the music played During the first Kiss in "The Quest"
The cd has its good points, personally "It's Over" from "THAB" with its haunting melodies portraying the consequences of war.
Xena;Warrior Princess volume six.......2002-01-09
I am so happy that the last and final cd has come out, now my collection is complete. I am very sad for the show ending, but I am glad to still collect things.
Great Collection.......2001-12-25
Well, I have them all by now, but this last one is a great collection, with the added bonus of the music from A Friend In Need.
Just another fine addition to my Xena collection!
Exceptional.......2001-11-30
I am a fanatic and devoted Xenite.I have a huge problem:i can't stop listening to that cd,since the first time i listened to it,which means 1 month! That cd is really exceptional and i think that every true and genuine Xenite should buy it!It's really good!I was moved when i heard the Fallen Angel part.I was passioned when i heard the Ring Trilogy!I was astonishing when i heard the bonus cues that were included, especially the cue from The Quill Is Mightier(fishin part),oh,i was completely satisfied!
Though, there is a complain:i can't understand, why after 6 cd's,the producers don't do a cd including cues like:M'laila's song, the cues from the Bacchaen festival, music from Deja Vou All Over Again, where in the end,Gabrielle says to Xena those wonderful words,or even the scene of the kiss in The Quest! That,i can't understand it!
Last, i believe that whoever likes LoDuca's music style, should buy this cd.
Pay attention to the 22 cue:Pas De Deux Femmes. It is one of a something and whoever remembers what's the scene of this song, will agree with me!Mmmm!
A MIX OF THE BEST, THE WORST AND THE MISSING.......2001-11-29
To all truly Xena fans this CD is a must-have but have some lacks... Fun (comedy episodes music) scores destroy the the great combination of FALLEN ANGEL, THE RHEINGOLD TRILOGY AND I FRIEND IN NEED. In the first selections LoDuca creates spectacular high level music good enough to be played in a Symphony orchestra concert. The others selections have easy-to-fill-space western cowboy music instead of put M'Lilas song of DESTINY, Amazon's climbing trees of ADVENTURES IN THE SIN TRADE and NAJARA vs XENA music that would be gladly accepted by us. I doubt the company will launch a next CD but if they'll do this track and another valuable more must be there and the adittion of some famous characters quotes like "I have many skills" from Xena.
