Justice is the moniker of the Paris-based production duo Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay. Their approach to crazy-quilt dance-pop hybridism is infectious, if a tad off-putting here and there. The duo rose to fame due to an MP3 single and super smart video for the excellent, kiddy-chorused house-pop number "D.A.N.C.E." in 2007, and they soon thereafter signed to the suitably named label Banger. They manage to make really silly and fun music in a way that frequently comes off in a pretentious manner. It's ridiculous to name your album after a symbol, especially if it's †. This is not meant derogatorily. Really. Justice does appear to be that rare breed of dance artist equally capable of stimulating the body and the mind, though neither Richard James nor the Basement Jaxx need fear this act. After just one listen to "Waters of Nazareth," it's very difficult to avoid wondering "how the hell did they mix and match noise and pop so beautifully" while also dancing furiously. --Mike McGonigal

Justice's monster beats, massive hooks, thunderous drums, and near-religious determination to demolish dance floors cast them in a light no contemporary can catch. I can't even begin to see how they equate Justice with Daft Punk!! This isn't techno and it's certainly not rock or punk. It's noise, alright? It's Chemical Brothers if the Chemical Brothers had no rhythm... or an insanely short attention span. When I listen to Techno or Dance music, I need some kind of element to tie it all together... to facilitate the musical journey, if you will... a beat. Justice keeps throwing in different shrill sounds and... Hell, they make Ministry and the whole Industrial movement sound almost classical. Sorry guys, but I don't get it. Justice sounds to me like a really bad acid trip.

Epic Awesomeness Times Five Million.......2007-07-16

Justice has been flouted as the next big thing for the past two years, and most everyone assumed there's no way their first album could match the hype. But good lord almighty, these crazy French hipsters have pulled it off. This is seriously the most innovative, danceable, listenable and EPIC "electronic music" record in a decade. Truly amazing and exciting, it makes you feel cool just listening to it.

Whereas most electronic music sets a groove and continues on ad infinitum, the tracks on "Cross" set a groove, rock it to death, then break it down into something totally unexpected, sending the listener on an epic journey of emotion and surprise that's most akin to classic rock (think Freebird or Layla) than any loop-based music. Dance grooves with emotion that make you think? Shut your mouth.

I agree that Uffie, the guest vocalist on "Party," is a horrible MC who can't write a lyric to save her b[...], but somehow, even that track ends up working (ruling, actually). "DVNO," meanwhile, is the most infectious thing I've heard in years, and even though the lyrics are all but intelligible, I find myself singing it all day. (I think it's about the Devil, or maybe ice cream.) Phantom 1 and 2 are so epic a Unicorn came out of my speakers, and, oh lord, the high-fidelity version of "Waters of Nazareth" rocks like I always wanted to. Each track flows into the next, turning the whole disc in to a jamming, continuous party of awesomeness.

In sum: believe the hype. Justice has managed to produce an dance music record that's somehow totally edgy, totally funky, and thoroughly epic at the same time. The rest of the music industry should be ashamed of itself and recognize what Justice has now proven: it IS still possible to innovate and produce timeless music that RULES.

Let There Be Justice!.......2007-07-10

If the opening seconds of Justice's debut album, " ," don't tell you a thing about what you're in store for, you aren't listening. The mudded brass come marching in like they are coming to destroy, and in a way they are. Justice is a dance/electronica group, to be sure, but to label them as such is travesty in and of itself. Like that imperial death march, Justice is here to destroy. In this case, they have come to demolish your preconceived notions about what dance music is and what it can be. Now, until recently I have avidly campaigned against the genre which I feel is cluttered with mundane "artists" who rely on bad samples and horrendous loops to captivate a somewhat dimwitted audience. My opinion is slowly starting to change as I am introduced to artists who are challenging this perception. Justice is one of them.

From the opening track to the very last second of "," I found myself, not only captivated, but amazed, entertained, and energized. Justice comes off as a bull charging towards its victim, with so much momentum and energy that attempting to slow it down would be a fruitless endeavor. Their songs are constantly changing, never relying on a single loop or phrase for too long. And these songs are not lite, easy-listening electronica songs either. They're harsh and brash, with the mids turned up too high for comfort. It's not your average dance album, it is a revelation!

"Let There Be Light" begins with a near-unlistenable melody, but adds in drums, a thumping bassline, and so many cuts and glitches that you'll be in love with it before you know it. It concludes with an absolutely awesome composition that harmonizes synths with synths in a way that sounds like it'd be better suited for the closing credits of a Super Mario Bros. game than a dance record. "D.A.N.C.E." is one of the few songs on " " with actual vocals, and while I found them a bit childish and annoying at first, I was shocked to find the song stuck in my head hours after I first encountered. The song sounds like the Jackson 5 on methamphetamines, if only for the lyrics, "Do the D.A.N.C.E., stick to the B.E.A.T." The disco-esque strings and sing-along quality of the song make the song a sure-fire hit, which is probably why it is the album's first single.

Elsewhere on the album, there's the cut-filled "New Jack," the completely overpowering, yet satisfying "Phantom Pt. I" (and it's more audience friendly second part), and the 100% guilty pleasure "The Party." The latter features such terrible rap-lines as "Let's get drunk and freaky-fied," and if you actually find yourself liking it, then you may want to see if pigs grew wings. It's the one low point on an otherwise flawless album.

The best part about "" is the fact that it never gets boring, an attribute clearly made possible by the group's insistence on keeping the songs fresh around every corner and their refusal to use one loop or riff for any extended period of time. The quality of the songs is through the roof, and the genres touched upon in each song are too numerous to mention. While "D.A.N.C.E." is clearly your crowd-pleaser, songs like "Stress" (which envokes serious Requiem for a Dream soundtrack memories) and "Waters of Nazareth" are designed for the sole purpose of making you nod your head in approval while simultaneously scratching it, thinking "What the heck am I listening to?" " " is an achievement in electronic music that should be listened to by fans and naysayers of the genre alike. Finding a true definition for the music contained on this album is impossible, so I'll just call it this: amazing!

Recommended for fans of electronic music and anyone who wants to experience shock and awe firsthand.

AMAZING DEBUT! (4.6 stars).......2007-07-10

I'll say it. The electronic/dance record of 2007 has arrived. The long-awaited, super amazing full length from French duo, Justice, breathes life once again into your neighborhood dance floor and come June 11, 2007, also in your favorite record shop. Justice is made up of Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Auge, two men that have become famous for mixing a bit of religion with their incredible and righteous beats. It seems wherever they turn up, they make any club/festival into their own private house of worship, and the faithful have been eating it up. Barely visible during their live sets, the two stand behind their giant glowing cross that adorns the decks. Its an ironic twist on the idea of a religious experience. After hearing this album in full, you might be a follower of what they've laid down as well.

Mixing some Daft Punk with early Chemical Brothers gets you about halfway there. Cross's strength is a flawless mix of dance and electronic styles, delivered with amazing production and energy to spare. It follows on the heels of a few well received singles, like 2006's Waters of Nazareth (which is smartly included here). Also catching buzz has been their fun graphically inspired video for the lead single, D.A.N.C.E. The song is great, with or without said video, it's a weird hybrid of Daft and Michael Jackson, with some children's vocals thrown in. It will be one of your favorites this summer, if isn't already.

The really amazing thing about this record is that it holds up through the entire tracklisting. I might have to go back to Underworld's Beaucoup Fish for the last time that happened (ok, maybe Milo's Destroy Rock n Roll, or MSTRKRFT's The Looks). It opens super strong with (appropriately titled) Genesis. As the perfect opener, it's a pulsing surge of fuzzy beats mixed with some over the top drama and a setup found usually in hollywood blockbuster movies, not dance records. never loses steam after Genesis fades into Let There Be Light, in fact it might even get stronger as the record chugs along. I found stuff like Phantom, The Party and New Jack, being as enjoyable as the singles. Stress, a song which backs the final third of the record, is unbelievably grand and just as in-your-face awesome. Vocals and vocal samples on Cross are kept to a minimum, appearing on just a few tracks, The Party (featuring foul-mouthed bass gal, Uffie), D.A.N.C.E., and DNVO. Its a perfect amount of vocals, in fact, everything on this record is pretty much spot on, even the T-Rex-esque album art is terrific.

If you like house/electro/club/Miami bass/trance/breakbeat/dance...whatever, it really doesn't matter. Justice aims to please, and happens to do much more than that. A must have.

Platinum-selling recording artist Deborah Cox reinterprets the classic songs of Dinah Washington on her Decca debut, Destination Moon. Destination Moon thrusts the R&B/dance diva into whole new territory, showcasing her range and scope as an artist capable of tackling jazz, blues and "big-band" with ease and confidence. Deborah Cox's first exposure to Washington came very early, when she was a little girl. "I first became aware of Dinah when I was growing up, when I was about 8 or 9 years old" she says. "A lot of jazz was played about the house. I heard my mother playing a 45 of "This Bitter Earth" -- this first song I had ever heard from Dinah. It was the richness and the tonality of her voice that I gravitated to." For the arrangements and the production, Deborah turned to the highly-versatile New York-based music man Rob Mounsey, whose credits with such diverse performers include Paul Simon, Steely Dan, Aretha Franklin and Tony Bennett to name a few. The record was made live in the studio, with 40 musicians in the same room with her, playing and singing in real time under Mounsey's direction. "I'm doing this to broaden people's awareness of what I can do and also for the sheer love of her music." As a result, Deborah's homage to Dinah Washington does not lean overwhelmingly toward one particular style. It was designed from the beginning to be a compendium of several of Dinah's idioms - the big-band swing of "All Of Me" and "Destination Moon," swaggering R&B ("I Don't Hurt Anymore)," the blues that earned her the misleading nickname "Queen of the Blues" ("Misery," "New Blowtop Blues"), the lush ballads that put her on the jukeboxes of Middle America ("What A Diff'rence A Day Made," "This Bitter Earth").

From her self-titled debut, to One Wish, to The Morning After to Destination Moon, Deborah's albums are like mini-greatest hits compilations, and Deborah scores again with her interpretations of Dinah Washington's songs on Destination Moon. Deborah has the best voice in contemporary music today, and this album continuously showcases her incredible range and talent. Personal favorites will include the title track, "Misery", and "This Bitter Earth". The album's best songs are "What a Difference a Day Makes" and the closing "Look to the Rainbow". Flawless from start to finish, Deborah again creates a masterpiece.

Jazz & Blues with Deborah !.......2007-06-25

Deborah takes the less is more approach with her first collection of standards. With a restraint that gives the arrangements plenty of room to breathe, she croons beautifully, showing us different facets of her vocal personality.
While her hits have generally called on her to be very angry or very sad, these classic songs allow her to be at turns gentle, sassy, reflective, happy and wry. The productions and arrangements are reminiscent of the golden era of era of Billie, Sarah, Dinah and others, but contain enough surprises to keep them from sounding old-fashioned.
Deborah - who shifted from pop siren to Broadway star with Aida, further expands her range to include jazz, blues and big band. Cox and her backing musicians were recorded live in the studio, playing and singing in real time. The effect pays off as Cox accurately renders each song with her own textures.
No one expects Cox to abandon the dance-floor (she just released a new dance track with Tony Moran), but her latest offering "Destination Moon" allows her to explore another musical landscape with glowing results.
Deborah takes the jazz route on "Destination Moon", a tribute to one of her all-time heroines, Dinah (The Queen) Washington. Whether you view it as a tribute album, a jazz debut or just a collection of good music, this album succeeds on all levels. From the swinging big-band to piano-voice ballads, Cox captures the essence of Washington, yet adds her own touches. Washington's milestone recordings are here. Cox gives "What a Difference a Day Makes" a mid-tempo turn with strings, getting the Queen's innocent voicing, but injecting more feeling into the lyrics.
"Baby, You've Got What It Takes" comes at us as a fast shuffle. Cox fills "This Bitter Earth" with Washington tics - the up-speak at the end of phrases, the self-satisfied "mmh-hmmm" after a line. Washington first made her name as a blues singer, and Cox lays the blues on in "Misery" and "New Blowtop Blues", that classic mean-woman lament where she sings of her run-in with a jealous ".45-packin' mama."
On "Destination Moon", focusing on Washington, the jazz singer, dishing out several of the standards most closely associated with her career, Deborah also wraps her powerful pipes around gems like "I Don't Hurt Anymore", "September in the Rain" and "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes".
Producer/arranger Rob Mounsey pulled out all the stops for these sessions, surrounding Cox with a 40-piece orchestra that laid down a gorgeous foundation for her to build on. And she did just that.
In an interview conducted to promote her new album, , Cox said she recorded this record for two reasons -- to pay tribute to an artist who had so inspired her and to show that she, like Washington, was capable of doing a lot more musically than some people might have expected.
She succeeded on both counts. It's very nice work.

This CD is Amazing!!! Deborah Cox vocals are outstanding! I was very surprised to hear that she had a new CD release. They should be promoting this album like crazy. At first i heard that this was a throwback album so i wasn't sure how to take this but i went and purchased it anyway and i'm amazed at her depth of talent. Her Phrasing is just perfect and the live instrument just add to the excitement of the music. I would have to say that this is the top album released this year as a tribute.
Also check out Amel Larrieux new CD its the same kind of music. I love it!

Amazing departure from the beautiful Deborah Cox.......2007-06-20

When most people think of Deborah Cox, they immediately think of the diva of club anthems (Absolutely Not, Nobody's Supposed To Be Here, Something Happened On The Way To Heaven)--the woman with a voice that makes you want to dance all night long. When I first learned of Destination Moon, I had my reservations. Then, once I'd heard some track clips that were posted on her official website, I knew I was going to love this cd. Sure enough, Deborah Cox breathes new life into the songs (some classics, some not) of the legendary Dinah Washington. Her voice is so pure and rich, the songs so soothing--I imagine (or, rather, would like to think) that her (Ms. Cox) legions of younger fans will look deeper into the discography of the great Ms. Washington, and discover for themselves an entirely different style of music which was--and still is--jazz at its best.

Kudos to the incredible Deborah Cox. This cd has found a permanent place in my ipod. (Favourite tracks include the title track, Destination Moon, and the hauntingly beautiful Smoke Gets In Your Eyes.)

The French twosome behind Daft Punk, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo, get away with an awful lot. They go around impersonating aliens and robots in their interviews, they put records out only once every three years, and they make music that evokes a million other artists--while not really sounding like any of them. The keyboard noodlings of Jean-Michel Jarre are in there somewhere, along with the otherworldly imagery and giant hooks of '70s rock icons like Boston or even Electric Light Orchestra. There are dashes of 1999-era Prince and oodles of new wave and disco cheese, from Harold Faltermeyer and Gary Numan to the Bee Gees, all set off with efficient house beats. So how have they managed to position themselves as electronic music's next great crossover artists? On Discovery, the follow-up to the 1998 worldwide smash Homework, the answer is obvious: they have no shame, and they know how to make us dance.

Starting off with the irresistibly hummable "One More Time," the record blows through a head-spinning array of styles and samples, creating a pop-culture stew of funky loops and dance-floor anthems. "Aerodynamic" eschews breakbeats for an Yngwie Malmsteen-ish guitar interlude that somehow ends up meshing in a crazy blend of stomping bass lines and hyped-up harmonics. "Digital Love" starts off silly and gets sillier, but the monosyllabic lyrics lull the senses just right, allowing the song's summery groove to grab hold with authority. "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" is a resounding standout amidst the retro/Vocoder deluge that transpired after Cher's Believe turned the kitchy disco device into a worldwide pop music trend, spinning a clever groove around an ever-escalating string of computerized seduction. Everywhere on the record, gigantic beats are dropped with pinpoint precision, giving songs a momentum that transforms repetitive melodies into sudden revelations. The record's only misstep, the aptly named "Short Circuit" utilizes a keyboard riff that is nails-on-a-chalkboard awful, but it can't keep this from being one of the best records of 2001. --Matthew Cooke

I don't listen to much electronica/dance/house/techno/whatever you want to call it, so it takes quite a bit to make me actually pay for an album of it. But Daft Punk is too good at not just cool computery noises, but also just making music, that it's hard not to like. Unlike some artists whose work consists of the same basic riff or melody over and over again for an insane amount of time, Daft Punk makes actual songs with structure and points, and their instrumentals are a lot of fun without being too long. They do a fair amount of sampling of music from some older songs, some credited and some not. But they're not lazy with the samples, they usually work them around and integrate them into a song, making it their own.

The album starts with "One More Time", and it's a perfect opening, throwing you into exactly what the band is and making you feel really good. "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" is maybe the most recognizable song on the record, and for good reason I guess. It's really catchy and sticks in your brain, although I've heard it a lot before and I'm not sure how well it fits with the rest of the tracks. The album has a good variety and vocal and instrumental songs. The vocal ones are more instantly memorable but there's some good stuff in the other tracks. I really like "Superheroes", which samples "Who's Been Sleeping In My Bed" by Barry Manilow but changes it to make it sound completely different. "Aerodynamic" has a really cool guitar solo part that maybe gets repetitive but it's just a fun song to listen to. That describes pretty much the whole thing, on which every song, excepting one filler track, is unique and enjoyable. If you can get into something different at all, it's worth it.

Sometimes, you will listen to a really great album, then when you're done listening, you'll wonder, "Wow, that was great! How do those guys write songs like that?". That may be a question to ponder about Daft Punk. While their music contains an element of minimalism (and there's nothing wrong with that), there's just something about their songwriting that captures me. Now for those of you that haven't read any of my other reviews, I listen to a wide variety of music (which is not only fun for me, but a great thing to do as I am a musician and should gather aspects from various forms of music), and no matter what, I think that Daft Punk's, "Discovery" has something for everybody.
I bought this album when it first came out. Granted, I was younger than and, like my other friends that loved Daft Punk, I thought of it as very entertaining. However, I still do now, and I love these guys even more for their talent and creativity.
"One More Time": A great way to start off the album, this song being just about infectious as you can imagine. I love that mystical, spacey break in the middle with just a swirling synth note and Romanthony's digital voice. This is endless fun and I'm sure you'll love it.
"Aerodynamic": The energy that this song displays lets you know that it's all right for you to let loose, as well. The speedy riff and Yngwie Malmsteen-esque guitar solo make this another great song. As a guitarist and guitar aficianado, this is especially a great song.
"Digital Love": Picks off right where "Aerodynamic" left off, with the ringing bell, progressing into a lush riff and lyrics that kind of remind me of those arena rock/hair metal ballads of the '70s and '80s. This a very beautiful, happy, and overall wonderful song that will leave you feeling great. And you gotta give it up for the outstanding guitar solo! I printed the tab for it and am currently trying to perfect it, even if it takes some time. Great song and an essential part of the album.
"Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger": Definitely a great song, and the interesting part of this song is the lyrical flow. At first, they seem to be just short passages of words, but eventually flow into each other to create one awesome groove, complimented by the cool, digital vocals. Believe me, you'll love this song.
"Crescendolls": A funny keyboard line that I would probably wanna learn (yeah, I'm a keyboardist, too!), and a crowd shouting things like, "Hey!", and "Whoo!". Just goes to show how good Daft Punk will make you feel.
"Nightvision": Bring out your lover, it's time for a love-making session! Love the airy synths on here and the electronic percussion. As one reviewer previously started, this is quite a sexy number. "Nightvision" makes for a great love-making song, but then again, the whole album ironically does. Just another thing to love about "Discovery"!
"Superheroes": Starts off with some snare drumming, then a heavy, throbbing bass drum, and some vocals that seem to be purposely recorded backwards. Love the keyboard work here, this would be another song I would wanna learn on my keyboard. This song basically displays the aura of "superheroes" as best as possible in four minutes. From the previously mentioned, heroic vocals, keyboard work, and the sexy, feminine vocals, this is one awesome song!
"High Life": Don't really listen to this song much, but it has more feminine vocals, if I recall correctly.
"Something About Us": A very romantic song with lyrics that could be used as words in a movie with a dramatic romance scene. The interesting part of this song that should be noted is the gutteral bass and keyboard combo. Very interesting, although somewhat unusual, it works.
"Voyager": Man alive, these guys can do it all! In just 3:45, Daft Punk combines funky guitars, throbbing basses, danceable drumbeats and techno keyboards into a fantastic, epic, spacey and just about perfect tune! This takes me on a space voyage, and always makes me think of just drifting out in the distant galaxy. You're gonna love this one!
"Veridis Quo": Don't really listen to this song as much as some others, either, but it's got some nice flute work.
"Short Circuit": The first minute and a half is all right, but the rest of the song kinda declines from there. Don't worry, the first, 90 seconds is enough, as it's got some amazing electronic keyboard usage. The main riff is kind of goofy, but enjoyable, and the soloing is quite on the freaky-naughty make-out side of things. Very cool.
"Face To Face": I love the guitar riff, and the opening drum rhythm really works. More purposely recorded backwards vocals are here, along with some interesting lyrics that could mean a lot of things, depending on where you stand. If you listen closely enough, you'll hear distant, background violins in the second use of the chorus in this song. It just adds a lot of meaning to this song and along with the rest of it, it's just so good.
"Too Long": Aptly titled name, with this song being at ten minutes, but it's terrific nevertheless. This song has probably the most vocal usage of all the songs, I love how it becomes muffled towards the end and adds pumping, keyboard lines.

Overall:
This album has something for everybody, with its fourteen songs running at about 61 minutes. I still listen to it and am really glad that I got it. This would make a great album to listen to while cruising in the nighttime, chilling out in your room, or makin' love with your lover. It's great for all of these things, and I hope it makes a great addition to your musical library. See you later!

My friend left 'Discovery' in my car a few months ago and I still haven't returned it. I was a fan of Daft Punk's singles but never heard a full album by them until now. I had NO idea how talented this duo is. This cd gets better and better with each listen. Every song is solid gold, these are some serious beats! Whatever mood you're in, you'll find a song that fits it. I couldn't tell you my favorite track on this album because it changes everytime. Pick this cd up today, it's truly a work of art and music at it's finest.

Daft Punk is special. They're a synth-rock (A.K.A. "electronica") band that takes a little noise for a long ride. They do so much with so little, an oft-forgotten necessity of music production. With an ear for attention-getting tone and a razor-sharp sense of rhythm, an artist can whisk you to the moon and back while keeping you on your feet, stomping out the explosive beats. It's easy to see - or rather, hear - that the Daft Punk duo possesses this profound ability. Powerful two-chord progressions and a bridge are pretty common here. Raging, well-engineered rhythms (Aerodynamic; Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger; Crescendolls; Short Circuit) mix delicately with well-groomed romanticist fare (Digital Love; Something About Us; Veridis Quo; Face To Face) with a fine selection of kickin' noise in between.

I thought I could count on Andre for inspired and soaring synth riffs (i.e."In My Dreams", etc.) I feel completely ripped off by this album. He has always been my number one trance artist, but now I feel like this God is dead. ATB is now "A Total Bore". Save your money...this album sucks.

ATB's new sounds, and then some........2007-07-06

This is definitely a high-flyer for ATB. It reminds me very much of the Two Worlds album, with the first CD being mainly techno-y/pop songs and the second CD being a great ambient mix. I'm not much of a fan of Heather Nova, and there's something about the featured single, "Renegade" that doesn't sound right, but dedicated ATB fans will like the new sounds, especially if you can't find quite the same kind of ambient that only ATB has. I would say it's no Movin' Melodies, or Two Worlds for that matter, but it's definitely worth the money. I've loved and listened to ATB for 6 years and I'm impressed that he can come out with a refreshingly new two-disc set after being in the game this long.

Great album...but does not reach "No silence" yet..........2007-06-26

ATB is an excellent DJ. Although he's classified in the Trance category, a more appropriate definition of his style would be melodic trance, as pointed out by a reviewer here. If you look for DJ tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, PVD like trance, go elsewhere. This is more mellow, more subtle trance here. The first CD has great vocal trance tracks (Renegade with Heather Nova will probably be among the most popular), pretty energetics sometimes, but nothing like the heavy basses rhythms of the DJs I mentionned earlier. Very laid back and relaxing.
The second CD, is definitely leaning towards dream music. very relaxing, excellent chillout tracks, perfect for a lazzy afternoon, or a quiet drive from the club at 4am.
4 stars only? well, rating is different for everybody, but to me, ATB really stood out with his previous album "No silence" and tracks like Ectasy, Marrakech, and others. IMHO this album is not as innovative and sort of surf on the same wave but no higher.
dont get me wrong though, it's still great music. I guess I'm just not as nicely surprised as with the "No silence" album. if you liked it, buy this one with your eyes closed.

ATB - Trilogy.......2007-06-25

ATB's newest CD is confusingly called "Trilogy". It's confusing since it's only 2 Discs-long, when I thought it was going to be 3 Discs-long - given the "Trilogy" title.

On top of that, it's almost like buying 2 completely different, separate artists' albums. That said, both of Trilogy's discs are good at what they set out to do.

Disc 1 is your typical ATB album. It's upbeat; it's dance-able. It's catchy, but never cheesey. There are good beats throughout and points to ATB for producing/creating them himself. A lot of DJ's can just spin good records, but ATB can also make good records. I thought the vocals were good throughout. This album is great for clubbing, driving fast, partying, etc. If you are a fan of ATB's other stuff, Disc 1 should definitely appeal to you.

Disc 2 however, is about as opposite from Disc 1 as you can get. Disc 2 is super mellow, ambient music. It is background music at its finest. It's calming, and can actually be beautiful at times - again a testament to ATB's ability to produce/create/make music. This CD is perfect for staying calm in rush-hour traffic, reading a book, or trying to fall asleep to.

So both CDs are good, even if they're really not related. I'm not sure anyone would ever naturally want to listen to them back-to-back; they're just so different from one another. If you are strictly a fan of the trance/dance genre, Disc 1 is for you, and you may hate Disc 2. If you're open to a wider taste of music, you may like both discs.

I bought this cd some weeks ago, its a really good cd if you dont know much of mobys work or for people who collect mobys cds. If you do know mobys work and you want something new this will not help, you can buy "new york new york" single cause thats the only new song. And as for the artwork, the cover is nice but the booklets inside pictures are a bit disappointing. Oh well, moby rulez anyway.

One of the Great Albums of the 90's.......2007-04-24

I was introduced to this album by my brother and was not sure if I would like it as I grew up in the seventies and was therefore somewhat out of touch with today's artists. But from the opening notes of HONEY, I was hooked. Moby put together a wonderful collection of songs for this album, most of which are instantly memorable, covering rock, pop, ambient music, gospel and ballads. Eighteen songs is a lot for one album and maybe four could have been left off: DOWN SLOW and 7 are very short, almost snippets. The spoken tracks: IF THINGS WERE PERFECT and THE SKY IS BROKEN are irritating and I tend to skip them. My other criricism is that the best tracks are contained in the first half of the album and it tends to run out of steam after RUN ON. So maybe a differnet playing order would have held my interest better. But that is only a minor complaint as there are so many wonderful tracks.

HONEY, WHY DOES MY HEART FEEL SO BAD, BODYROCK, RUSHING, RUN ON, NATURAL BLUES, EVERLOVING, GUITAR FLUTES AND STRING, PORCELAIN, FIND MY BABY, SOUTHSIDE and MACHETE are standouts. PORCELAIN may be overplayed as I see it listed on most chillout albums, including PURE MOODS 3 but there is no denying it is a great song. SOUTHSIDE is the other big hit but it does not really need Gwen Stefani's guest vocal and some other songs do tend to repeat the one line over and over (HONEY, FIND MY BABY, WHY DOES MY HEART...) but they never sound motonous. But the album is more creative than most today and this guy is very versatile with different styles of music. My favourite way to listen to the album is to delete the four tracks mentioned above that i do not care for and then let the album play. It is beautiful, raw, soulful and edgy all at once.

By the way skip the liner notes. Moby pours forth about his beliefs on various topics and I for one don't really care. I am interested in some of the issues he talks about but it does come accross as a little bit preachy. Just create more great music. Below are track listing and times. Where would the '80s have been without the Pet Shop Boys? Discography makes a compelling case for the notion of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe as pioneers, if not geniuses. Mixing the cold feel of Euro-techno beats with the Boys' quest for something warm between the sheets, "What Have I Done to Deserve This" and "Suburbia" sound almost soulful. Although they seemed to be suffering from a terminal case of boredom, they managed to alchemize their ennui into touching sentimentality in "Love Comes Quickly," "Rent," and, especially, the AIDS-oriented "Being Boring." Discography begins with the Pet Shop Boys' beginning, "West End Girls," traveling past "Domino Dancing" and including their covers "Always on My Mind," and the medley "Where the Streets Have No Name (I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You.)" --Steve Gdula

You cannot hate these guys. Sure they get a little silly with the lyrics at times but what they do well is make catchy pop/dance music and they don't stray. At no point in history of the band has this simple concept been forgotten. They do what they do best and that's enough for this listener.

A song like 'Being Boring' is just plain amazing. But there's lots and lots more. If you love anything about 80s pop music then you will not be wasting one penny on this stellar collection. It's the first 18 singles the band released. Even today I'm in awe of the consistency of this band.

I have to say that this is my second compact disc because the other one got scratched up. I decided since I love their music to buy another one because the one hit that I love the most is Suburbia. I love listening to it over and over again. I love the other hits like West End Boys and What have I done to deserve this? and others on this collection. I love the sound and keep thinking about London, England and being on the underground or the tube. It's quite a great collection!

Are you the kind of person who would spend $3.50 for the perfect oyster at a raw bar? How about $7.00 for a perfectly drawn pint of ale in a midtown New York bar? Then dropping $35.00 for a t-shirt because it was made in the US or $18.00 for that small jar of cashews from the minibar because you 'just had to have something to munch on" before going to dinner? If you answered yes to any of the above, you would have no problem dropping the full price (Amazon, $14.98) to have a red-book CD copy (no inferior compressed downloads, thank you) of the perfect pop song, "What have I done to Deserve this?" from Pet Shop Boys. One of the most beautifully sung and arranged female pop vocals ever recorded is to be found on this one song. It is well known that Dusty Springfield demanded several run-throughs and takes to make this cut. She is said to have sweated every single note to perfection because she felt so strongly about her performance. Believe me, it shows. Perfection. You also get the unrivalled, unmatched 80's pop and dance-beat mastery with all the other selections that only the "Boys" were able to create. And all for only $14.98.

Erasure is one of my all time favorite pop groups from the 1980s. Their music always cheers me up whenever I am feeling down. The group's first compilation Pop! was the cd that really introduced me to the group. Unfortunately the production is pretty shoddy. Four years ago Mute released another Erasure compilation with better production value. Unfortunately Mute Records left off a considerable amount of Erasure material for a best of compilation. There is no songs off Erasure's self-titled album or "Cowboy", two of my personal favorite Erasure albums. It seems that this compilation as nothing more than to make money off the group. If they relaly cared about the fans, the label would have covered all of the group's past recordings and include some bonus tracks or a dvd. Still I am glad to hear "A Little Respect" and "Oh L'Amour" with better production quality because the orginal versions sounds like crud. If you want to hear your favorite Erasure songs with better production quality, I recommend buying this cd. If you are a serious diehard Erasure fan, don't buy it. It's obvious cash cow for Mute Records.

But I have "POP!-20 Hits" already and think that was a better representation of why Erasure was so great. Btw, with this new collection having 3 covers of ABBA songs, why doesn't it have their great cover of Blondie's "Heart of Glass"?

So anyway, should you buy this or POP!? I have the solution: backtrack and buy all their cd's in order and experience Erasure to its fullest. Most of their cd's have too many wonderful undiscovered/unheard gems in them.

It is filled with lots of up beat songs. I can't stop listening to it. I even work out to it.

Techno and house music producer Ludovic Navarre is--along with Laurent Garnier, Air and DJ Cam--one of the biggest names in French electronic music of the past decade. His ability to imaginatively blend jazz elements with recent dance-music styles has been demonstrated before, but the seamless quality of this release is stunning. Compared to someone such as Amon Tobin, who obviously (although brilliantly) creates sampled collages, St Germain makes it pleasantly difficult to identify the boundary lines between "live" performance, programmed electronics, and sampled sound. Part of the credit must go to this album's musicians, including Pascal Ohsé, Eduoard Labor, Alexandre Destrez, and Idresse Diop (at least some of whom are francophone Africans making their mark in the post-colonialist European Afro-jazz scene). The CD's opening piece, "Rose Rouge," is centered on an edgy piano rhythm and a looped vocal fragment from jazz singer Marlena Shaw. The dub-inflected "Montego Bay Spleen" features Jamaican jazz guitarist Ernest Ranglin, who offers a clean, warm, neo-Wes Montgomery style filtered through his years as a session musician-architect of ska and reggae. And Edouard Labor's raspy flute tone on "So Flute," its role as much rhythmic as melodic, adds a Latin flavor to the mix. "Sure Thing," another high point of the release, is built around a vocal and guitar sample from blues guitarist John Lee Hooker, borrowed from the soundtrack to Dennis Hopper's film The Hot Spot and noteworthy on its own as probably the only time Hooker, Miles Davis, and Taj Mahal ever played together. Thanks to Amazon, I was able to buy a CD I had been hunting for several years, and at a great price including postage to Australia !
The tital track Rose Rouge is an edgy Jazz/Rock ensemble without peer, and is definitely a 10 out of 10. The other numbers I rate between 7 and 9 and the CD has not left my car CD player in nearly 2 weeks I love it that much !

is my absolute favorite! It's why I bought the cd. I wasn't particularly crazy about a few of the tracks on the cd; however, after listening to in its entirety, I found myself enjoying more. So my advice to those that are considering TOURIST, listen first, and you might actually find yourself with a gem. ~Enjoy!

I first heard this album while on vacation, so I had to buy it, and I am very pleased with the purchase. The album is great. I'ts good jazz with a good uptempo beat to it.
