Product Description
""The Chill"", John 'Juke' Logan's ground-breaking, genre-busting first album (originally released in 1992 - long out-of-print & unavailable until now) is here re-issued, re-mixed, re-mastered, re-Chilled, and containing previously unreleased bonus tracks. Featuring guest-musicians David Hidalgo & Conrad Lozano of Los Lobos, Denny Freeman, Junior Watson, Rick Holmstrom & many more. Contains the XM/Sirius blues hit ""Young & Wired"" and 15 more Juke-originals. Juke's style of extreme custom blues has made him the first-call harmonica-player for L.A. studio work, soundtracks, & themes for film & TV. He's been the harp-player-of-choice for Ry Cooder, Los Lobos, Etta James, Bo Diddley, Lucinda Williams, Dave Alvin, Leon Russell, the late John Lee Hooker, & many others. John 'Juke' Logan's all-original-song-filled albums have been called ""life-operas"" & ""eclectic"", but Logan assures, ""It's all 51%-or-more blues, I just invite lots of other styles to the party!!""

New Faces of 1952 .......2007-05-13
This is the original broadway cast album. It contains songs which went on to become hits for their performers, such as Lizzie Borden, Lucky Pierre, Love is a simple thing, Guess who I saw today, Bal petit bal and Monotomous. Now re-released on Jasmine label, it was originally released by RCA Victor so the quality is excellent, but from the mono era.
Wonderful memories!.......2007-03-24
Loved having this on the CD form. I wore out the 33 1/3 record. Thank you for carrying this CD!
Where is Time For Tea?.......2005-12-04
I bought a recording of this show in the middle '70s when RCA was re-isuing a lot of their rare soundtracks. The record made a big deal about isuing a lost track called "Time For Tea" from this show sung by June Carroll and Alice Ghostley. This track is not included on this CD. Luckily I still had the record, and was able to make a version of the CD and add the second last track just before Lizzy Borden. Buyer beware however, this CD is not complete!
If You Tapped Your Fingers to the Music in Waiting for Goffman . . ........2005-08-16
Hey, don't waste your money unless you dig the score of really crummy musicals. Some people do. If you are not among that select group then don't believe the good reviews by other buyers (bless their hearts) like I did. Note that Amazon doesn't offer excepts from this aged dog. Good strategy. I bought this cd for the Lizzie Borden song on it but the arrangers even ruined that with a silly bridge section about Lizzie ruining the singers' weekly hoedown. Terrible. Maybe I can unload this cd in a used music store and get a few dollars back. I hope so.
What about the movie?.......2005-07-01
Great, great show! But are any of you people aware that "New Faces of 1952" came out as a movie. The entire stage show was shot mainly from the front as if from a really expensive orchestra seat. Includes Paul Lynde and Ronny Graham in a howling send-up of "Death of a Salesman." Paul Lynde in tattered jungle gear at an afternoon ladies lecture describing his latest safari to darkest Africa. And Eartha doing "Monotonous!" The whole show was filmed.
NOW where is a VHS or DVD of that film? The world is waiting!

Great Album.......2005-03-02
I've not had the chance yet to hear the revised CD version of Logan's Run.
Years ago when this movie first came out,
everywhere you went this music was played.
My favorite is the main them..its very futuristic yet a chilling song at the same time.
Another masterwork.......2005-01-07
Jerry Goldsmith created soundscapes that sometimes surpassed the films they were written for in evoking emotions and revealing character. For Logan's Run, Goldsmith came up with one of his most brilliant creations. It opens with stark, electronic sounds, effectively mirroring the cold future society depicted in the film. Only when Logan breaks out of the domed city and into the natural world does Goldsmith allow the full orchestra to come in, warming up the music just as Logan's worldview expands. This release finally captures the full range and power of the score in pristine sound. And, heck, I even like the Love Theme tacked on at the end...

Your search for good Burns songs has ended.......2000-01-29
Jean Redpath sings the "inimitable songs of Burns" as if Rabbie himself is hovering over her shoulder. You're not likely to find too many singers more suited to her material than Redpath. Also, I needs must mention the first-rate musical accompaniments by Serge Hovey. All in all, the seven volume Redpath-Burns series is indispensible for lovers of song everywhere. Way to go, folks.

Album Description
This new double CD release of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart features both the orchestral and chamber music prowess of Canada's NATIONAL ARTS CENTRE ORCHESTRA under the artistic direction PINCHAS ZUKERMAN. The Mozart is the latest release in a remarkable series on CBC Records, with this group that began with Vivaldi four years ago and followed thereafter with CDs featuring the music of Beethoven (2001) and then Schubert (2002). As was the case in all of these recordings, Zukerman conducts and plays.
Customer Reviews:
National Arts Centre Orchestra of Ottawa with Pinchas Zukerman.......2005-09-26
This two-disc set contains Divertimento for Strings in D, K.136; Violin Concerto no. 5 in A, K.219; Symphony no. 29 in A, K.201; String Quintet in g minor, K.516; Clarinet Quintet in A, K.581.
On the chamber works, Mr. Zukerman plays first violin (and he is the soloist in K.219.) Other players in K.516 are: Jessica Linnebach, violin; Jethro Marks, viola; Donnie Deacon, viola; Amanda Forsyth, cello. The others in K.581 are: Kimball Sykes, clarinet; Donnie Deacon, violin; Jane Logan, viola; Amanda Forsyth, cello. Recorded on July 12, 2002 and July 10-12, 2003 in Southam Hall, National Arts Centre, Ottawa (Canada's capital city), this mid-priced set is worth every cent. The NACO players are excellent in both the orchestral and chamber works. In the latter, they are equal and astute partners with Mr. Zukerman, and this recording of the Clarinet Quintet is one of the finest I have heard (among many, it being my favorite Mozart work.)
Recommended without hesitation.
A MOZART FEAST.......2003-10-31
The first time I ever heard Pinchas Zukerman play it was in Mozart--as the spectacularly talented violist in the string trio, Divertimento in E Flat, K. 563; Itzhak Perlman was the violinist, Ronald Leonard (former principal of the LA Philharmonic) the cellist. And I've heard him play and conduct music of Mozart several times since. It has always seemed to me that he has a special feel for it.
This 2 CD set is devoted entirely to Mozart, with music from several different genres: a string orchestra divertimento, his earliest mature symphony, one of his violin concertos, the glorious G minor string quintet, and the clarinet quintet. It's hard to imagine a more lovely program than this: two-and-a-quarter hours of heavenly music played beautifully. For the last few years Zukerman has been the music director of the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, and all the musicians in this set are his colleagues there. There is not a well-know (to me) name amongst them, but the musicianship demonstrated in these performances is of the highest level. Zukerman conducts, plays the violin solo in the concerto and the lead violin in the chamber pieces. I have to say that the last couple of times I'd heard him perform in person it seemed that he was more or less phoning in his performance. Not this time. His velvety tone, hair-trigger technique and subtle phrasing is present throughout. And he gets remarkable ensemble from his players, in both the orchestral and the chamber pieces.
A few words about some of the high points in this otherwise consistently high-level set: The initial statement and return of the rondo theme in the third movement of the Fifth Violin Concerto in A Major, K. 219, is meltingly played. The third movement allegro of the Divertimento in D Major, K. 136, displays real virtuosity in all of the strings, with dancing sprung rhythms; the fugal passages feature clarity and élan.
Many conductors present the Symphony No. 29 in A, K. 201, as if it were a bijou, a trifle. It certainly some of that quality about it, but it also represents the 18-year-old Mozart's first mature essay in the symphonic form and there are formal and harmonic features--as in the development of the first movement--that are as advanced and as serious as anything Mozart ever wrote. Zukerman's orchestra catches that quality. The second movement has one of Mozart's loveliest melodies, with an equally lovely countermelody riding above it in the high violins. The orchestra plays it sensuously, not hurrying it, allowing us to luxuriate in it. The symphony's fourth movement has always been one of my favorites in all of Mozart; there is vigor, excitement and rakish humor, almost Haydnesque. Zukerman apparently feels it that way, too. I approve.
The G Minor String Quintet, K. 516, is generally considered not only the finest of Mozart's quintets, but possibly the finest ever written. The instrumentalists--Zukerman and Jessica Linnebach, violins, Jethro Marks and Donnie Deacon, violas, and Amanda Forsyth, cello--play at the highest international level. I honestly cannot find anything to criticize. Hear how they put forth the drama of the first movement, emphasize the off-beat accents in the second so that we are kept off-balance (surely that's what Mozart wanted, no?), sing the third movement as if members of a world-class choir. The adagio first section of the fourth movement will tear your heart out; Zukerman sings the melancholy violin theme in such a sweetly hushed tone, over the soft sobbing of the other strings, that you don't want it to end--it almost makes time stand still. Any doubt Mozart that was a genius disappears here. And then follows the allegro in the sunniest G major; it takes a moment to shake off the melancholy of the adagio, but once the rhythm is firmly established, Mozart has makes us forget the melancholy and the whole thing comes to a rollicking end. Bravo.
The set comes to an end with the glorious Clarinet Quintet in A Major, K. 581, the chamber companion to his later well-beloved clarinet concerto, both written for Mozart's favorite clarinetist, Anton Stadler; indeed this quintet is usually subtitled 'Stadler.' Kimball Sykes is the fine and sensitive clarinetist here; I don't think there is anything he can't do with his instrument. His legato is molten gold. Zukerman plays first violin; Deacon moves to the second violin stand, Jane Logan is the violist, and Forsyth is again the cellist. Again, the playing is world-class. What can one say about this piece? It is certainly one of my desert island works. I remember an episode of the TV show M*A*S*H where Major Charles Emerson Winchester tries to teach some rag-tag Chinese musicians the quintet. I can identify with that attempt. This is music one should not be away from for very long, even in a war-torn area. I must have ten recordings of the piece. This one is one of the best.
In summary, this is a 2 CD set that has not a single weak moment. It contains some of the most divine music ever written in performances that measure up to the best.
A very strong recommendation.

As Live and As Good As It Gets.......2004-04-29
Recently got this and sereral other Doug MacLeod CDs from Amazon. As usual,I was not disappointed. Doug MacLeod is the BEST blues man since Dave "Snaker" Ray first came on the scene.
This live CD is a joy. Juke Logan supplies some tour-de-force harp and Doug gives the best vocals and guitar in bluesdom(is that a word?)....With great songs like the powerful HIGH PRICED WOMAN, GREASE IN MY GRAVY, Juke's HUSTLER in which he does some wonderful Louis Prima style vocals, to the already classic DOOLAH and HEY BARTENDER, you can't go wrong with this album. I only wish I lived near where Doug performs so I could go see him like I used to 40 years ago...Come on back to Norfolk, Doug.
Do yourself a favor and get this CD. You'll thank me when you do.
Great, down home blues with a twist.......2001-09-24
I had seen these guys performing at BB King's in LA and was happy to see they had captured their onstage magic on tape. They have a great rapport and it shows on this CD....really funny and entertaining. So much blues sounds the same out there, but these guys are unique and stand out.
ACOUSTIC BLUES PARTY.......2001-03-21
Some of the music lovers complain that the blues is too sad and downbeat. "Live As it Gets" refutes that notion with funny songs,ad-libs,thoughts and introductions. This a one night acoustic blues party from a couple of guys who really play raw music. These are honest songs from a guys perspective talking about everything from a pretty woman "Tight White Pants" to a wife trying to turn her husband into eating health food, "Doug's First Protest Song". This is a good live cd that will get both men and women a few laughs, solidifying we do come from different planets.

Album Description
The four works on this newly remastered CD are eloquent testimony to Harry Partch's aesthetic of corporeality. The music he composed for The Dreamer That Remains, for Rotate the Body in All Its Planes, for Windsong, and for Water! Water!, was intended as only one component in the total artistic experience. In these works music joins with drama, with film, with dance, even with gymnastics, as integral parts of the composer's vision.
"The eloquent and affecting The Dreamer That Remains (1972) was Partch's last work. It was commissioned by the patroness Betty Freeman for her film on Partch which was directed by Stephen Pouliot. Rotate the Body in All Its Planes (1961) was a spin-off of the "Tumble On" sequence in Partch's large-scale theatre piece Revelation in the Courthouse Park. It was premiered at the National Collegiate Gymnasts Championship in 1961. Windsong (1958) was also written for film, the soundtrack to a film by Madeline Tourtelot in which Partch saw the Greek myth of Daphne and Apollo. (A later version of the work was named Daphne of the Dunes). Finally, somewhat akin to a Broadway musical, Water! Water! (1961) is perhaps Partch's most lively and lighthearted work. It pokes fun at many targets, especially the rush of audiences for water at the interval; thus the subtitle: "An Intermission with Prologues and Epilogues.

Customer Reviews:
You'd have to be a fan, though..........2001-05-11
This is a must-have if you're a fan of "Logan's Run" and/or these musicians; otherwise, it'd be more like two or three stars, I think. Much of the music itself is indeed the type of music you'd expect to hear in a "Logan's Run"-like film, but it doesn't hold a candle to Jerry Goldsmith's original soundtrack.
Luckily, this fun, clever project was clearly not meant to be taken that way. The tracks are pleasant to listen to ("Search for Tomorrow" is especially haunting), but what really makes this CD a must-have for "Logan's Run" fans is the packaging. The cover and liner notes are amazingly authentic; there are photos from the "movie" and a brief synopsis of the plot (which doesn't reveal the story's ending). If there'd been a cheesy, low-budget sequel to the original film, this could well have been it. The music complements it perfectly.
If you're a fan of these musicians or of "Logan's Run," you MUST have this CD.
Good cheesy fun.......2000-11-29
Your enjoyment (or eye-rolling dismissal) of this deliberately kitschy side project by members of Jellyfish and Air depends on whether you can buy into the one-joke premise: This is the soundtrack for an imaginary sequel to the 1976 sci-fi film "Logan's Run". Within that context, the project certainly delivers that mid-70's feel with almost exclusive use of assorted "vintage" synths and keyboards. Power-pop wunderkind Jason Falkner delivers in spades on the anthemic "Search For Tomorrow", the lone vocal performance in this otherwise all-instrumental set. In thier better moments, some songs recall Kraftwerk's "Computer World" period; the one or two clunkers sound like generic porno soundtrack fill (uh, er, I mean, not that I WATCH a lot of that stuff...)At any rate, if you already get a kick out of Air, High Llamas or Stereolab, you'll likely find this a pleasant diversion.
If you like Air, you'll like this one too........2000-10-08
The duo featured here also played on Air's tour, and the drummer played on Air's Virgin Suicides album, and is going to be on the new one. It sounds like a happier Virgin Suicides, but perhaps a bit funkier. A must have for Air fans in general. Particularly tracks 7 and 9 which you can't even sample here.
Dreamylike awesome music to transport you into Logan's World.......2000-07-07
True Funky 70's style music will illuminate your path and mind as you depart your hover-craft or Jet-bike and begin your adventure in Logan's World, AAA+++ My Nephew Andros Illuminattini is going to Love this one! Thanks Alot fellow Sandmen/Musicians You Guys are Great, Make another One!
I have seen the future - and it's played on MiniMoogs........2000-06-16
Roger Manning (RJMJ to fans) and Brian Reitzell of Redd Kross join forces with the help of Jason Falkner to deliver the best soundtrack to an imaginary movie - ever! The songs are not only nostalgic, atmospheric, and humorous: they're downright well-written. Not only that, but the level of plot description in the liner notes only makes me wish that "Logan's Sanctuary" were a real movie. Jason Falkner's excellent solo number, "Search for Tomorrow" recalls James Bond movies and lounge singers. To top it all off, the tagline is "Beyond the Raynbo...freakish machine ecstasy!" This phrase can mean only one thing - buy Logan's Sanctuary right now.
