The songs on "Unearthed" pay homage to ancient cultures with their titles (Cuzco, Pompeii, Harrapa, and Ebia), yet they are as contemporary as Deep Forest and Enigma and attract the same kind of fan. The music is at one moment dark and choral and at another light and airy; one moment you're in Greece and then in Ireland or South America. It's a film score, clearly cinematic, but there's no movie - rather there are the dozens of movies and movie trailers in which the music has appreaed. If you've watched Six Feet Under, the NFL or the US Open, you've heard their music. If you watch CBS's hit series "Cold Case" on Sunday nights, you've heard one of the most extraordinary theme songs ever, and it's the track "Nara". If you are even an occasional filmgoer, you've heard the music on "UNEARTHED"

'Unearthed' is one of those albums that invigorates initially, but eventually shows its true colors after its artificial guise no longer appears to fool. It's a classic tale of style over substance.

This is pop music, with a twist. Or so it seems. It's not a bad strategy, really, and by and large it's reasonably successful at what it is (not to be confused with what it aspires to be). Combine some modern musical sensibilities (I'd be at a loss to label them specifically) and throw in a theatrical chorus, or strings, to add a level of authenticity to the whole thing. To their credit, they even sprinkle us with a few other obscure instruments, again adding to the flavor and relative distinctness the album displays. Pretty neat, right? Sure -- if only that impression lasted. The downfall of the music, then, originates out of the realization that it's heftily elementary for the majority of its length (it not -- all -- of it); both in terms of melody and general orchestration, the dynamic appearance resting on the surface melts away fast. Don't try to bamboozle (some of) us with your "distinguished" demeanor. Normally, I wouldn't have too much a problem with something attempting to appear more than it is, but E.S. Posthumus just seem too self-indulgent and righteous -- unjustly so.

The first track here sums up the largest problem here -- redundancy. Yes, I do yearn for a bit more complexity in my music, but again, this --is-- pop, and I'll openly admit that I adore a huge amount of pop amongst the vast array of its spectrum. What I don't enjoy is hearing something over and over and over, within a SINGLE song, let alone all the songs on the album. These guys' just don't have many ideas -- which is seemingly why they attempt to mask the fact with overbearing bombast. The first song repeats the first two minutes two times, with almost no variation after that two minute mark, and this approach can't even begin to justify their shallower nature. It almost seems strangely humbling, because while their use of more exotic elements is deceptive, they don't even try to hide the vacuousness of their musical ideas; it seems like they don't give a rats behind about their uncreative tendency, as it's so glaringly noticeable in structure or musicality, as if they just sort of said "oh well" and let it effortlessly fly. Again, all of the tracks bear this problem -- some to a lesser to degree than others -- and while they write some fetching melodies, they're simply not good enough to provide a song with a strong base, not to mention having to hear most of them three or so times within a single track makes them more irritating than they really are.

I don't mean to sound so harsh, because 'Unearthed' would be a welcome addition to most people out there (if only they knew it existed), and despite mildly trivializing the more filmic aspects it employs, it would at least expose them to a fairly half-baked presentation of these types of music. It may be pop, but amongst its pretty substantial problems, it's at least peculiar and reasonably passionate pop, even if it thinks it's more than that. That's worth something.

Wonderful album designed for the cinema, and it comes to no suprise that almost every track on this album has been used in several movies. E.S. Posthumus use great samples and beutifully mix them in with their string scores.

Over the course of five mesmerizing CDs, Unearthed shows us just how Johnny Cash's now-legendary handful of recordings for American Records came to be. Four discs feature previously unreleased tracks from the famed Rick Rubin-produced sessions. Through their inconsistencies and quirks (and, more often than not, brilliance), they shed light on how Cash's final records were shaped, edited, and produced. Here we get some creative pairings: Fiona Apple providing guest vocals on Cat Stevens' "Father & Son," and the late Joe Strummer duetting with Cash on Bob Marley's "Redemption Song." Neither are the definitive statements that some of Cash's covers from this period are (his glorious takes on Nick Lowe and Danzig, to name just two), but they're still very much worth hearing. Most riveting are the numerous traditional numbers, the songs that were clearly closest to the Man in Black's heart. "Banks of the Ohio," Billy Joe Shaver's "Old Chunk of Coal," Stephen Foster's "Hard Times," and the entire disc of previously unreleased gospel tunes are powerful statements, tunes where you feel privileged to hear Cash--despite declining health and failing voice--sing one more time, the way he wanted. The last disc of this monumental set is a "best-of" compilation of tracks that did make it on the American individual discs, a reminder of just how groundbreaking these sessions were. a must for johnny cash fans........2007-03-29

i personally believe that you should have everything that johnny cash recorded with rick rubin. together they made stunning americana music that is a pinnacle of the genre. this box set is very, very wonderful. i would suggest that you first get the 5 individual volumes of mr cash's "american recordings," then pick this up as icing on the cake. the only reason that i don't think this to be quite 5 star worthy is that disc 4 is an all gospel set titled "my mother's hymn book," which, while still a very good listen, is not quite up to par with the other cash/rubin work. also, disc 5 is simply a collection of tracks from the previous american recordings releases and is completely pointless here, as all true cash fans will already have these. anyway, the voice of mr cash is an amazing instrument to hear, truly spine-tingling on many of the songs collected here, and i highly, highly recommend that you pick this massive gathering of performances up.

Several other reviewers went into great detail on each CD in this set, and I see no need to duplicate their comments, so I'll keep it as brief as possible.

I assume, if you're reading these reviews, you're familiar with Cash's albums on the American label and are interested in hearing more. If that's the case, definitely buy this set - it is very much worth the money. Other than the final "best of American" CD (which seems pointless, as others have mentioned), every CD in this set is simply outstanding. This is not a box set of rejects and b-sides, but a collection of songs that could have been award-winners on their own. It really is hard to believe some of these songs didn't make the cut when they put the original American albums together. It's even hard to recognize some of the covers, because they all sound like Cash originals. His passion, distinctiveness, and talent are evident on just about every song.

Beyond the beauty of Cash as an artist, these discs stand out because of the incredible sound. They are very clean, clear, and pure-sounding.

For any fan of Cash - long time listener or newcomer - this is a set well worth the price. It contains a little bit of something reminiscent of every stage of his career. Simply great.

This box set is nearly five star- nearly, but not quite. I have to agree with other reviewers about the fifth disc; it's unlikely that many are purchasing this without already owning the American Recordings, so the 'best of' fifth disc is bound to mean buying the same music for the second time. The packaging is so good that it's a real shame that it's let down by careless, sloppy, disrespectful typos (e.g. 'Roseanne' is spelled three different ways). It's just as easy to get it right- and at this price it's fair to expect that the Lost Highway Label should have taken a little time and professional pride, just like Johnny did.

Here, in collaboration with Rhino Records, 16 rare tunes are presented froim artists like Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Otis Redding, Percy Sledge, Donny Hathaway, Arthur Conley, plus some rarely heard artists as well. Some of these songs have never made it past being only released on the original 45, and others have never been heard before, period. These songs come from about 1967-1974; one of the last of the golden ages at Atlantic. This disc runs about 50 minutes, but is very enjoyable. Definitely worth hearing, because it's not something you'd hear every day. One listen to the whole thing, and you'd be asking why some of these songs never saw the light of day again...until now!

Wilson Pickett: Can't Stop a Man In Love
Lots of energy and a good beat in this one. The background vocalists are good.

Bobby Womack: How Does It Feel
The organ and bass make this song; good beat to it.

Sam & Dave: You Left the Water Running
Good funky stuff from these guys; great drumbeat.

Arthur Conley: Rome Wasn't Built In A Day
Seminal track featuring a sharp horn line at the beginning and near the end of the song.

Percy Wiggins: Book of Memories
This would have been a good hit; nice easy soul ballad with a very audible classic sounding bass line.

The Soul Clan: That's How It Feels
Dynamite soul talents Arthur Conley, Ben E. King, Solomon Burke, Don Covay and Joe Tex team up to deliver this very heartfelt song.

Otis Redding: I Love You More Than Words Can Say
What's a soul collection without Big O? There'd be something wrong with any woman who can't feel this guy's heartwrenching plea.

Percy Sledge: Baby, Baby, Baby
Percy does a beautiful job with this organ-drenched rendition of the Aretha Franklin ballad. It features a good horn part in place of the backing vocals.

James Carr: Hold On
His only Atlantic single is a moderate tempo ballad that is as every bit as touching.

Otis Clay: Pouring Water on a Drowning Man
Have mercy! This guy's telling it like it is; passionate soulful performance on this one.

Mighty Sam: Lovebones
Still has that Johnnie Taylor spirit about it. Great organ parts and solos. Listen as he compliments his fellow Atlantic artists near the end.

Darrell Banks: The Love of My Woman
Confident sounding uptempo number from thsi rarely heard artist.

Walter Jackson: Coldest Days of My Life:
Beautiful slow, soul ballad that features a great bass guitar part especially during the chorus part. Love how the backing vocals spice up this song well.

R.B. Greaves: Whiter Shade of Pale
Neat B Major-keyed rendition of this classic song featuring a terrific organ part and backing vocals.

Carl Hall: Change With the Seasons.
Can this guy belt it out! As ultra-soulful as it get can possibly get.

Donny Hathaway: What A Woman Really Means
Sounds very modern and really way ahead of its time. Listen to Donny's vocal stylings and how the male backing vocals sound and you'll know.

Be sure to check out the "Soul Sisters" volume as well. For fans of classic soul, it's a must!

Mixed bag with some good stuff.......2006-09-24

I'm usually a big fan of underground, little-known soul that didn't get the airplay it deserved the first time around. I would recommend at least listening to this one before buying.

Much of this is just okay, but there are a few exceptional tunes. The unreleased "What a Woman Really Means" by the legendary Donny Hathaway makes you wonder why this was not released to the public the first time around. The Soul Clan (Arthur Conely, Don Covay, Joe tex, Ben. E. King, and Solomon Burke), the rare R&b Supergroup, appear in one of their only two recordings "That's How It Feels," as each takes their turn singing the saddest stories they could think of (their other release, the more upbeat "Soul Meeting," appears on Rhino's Solomon Burke collection).

James Carr, another undeground legend, appears in one tune, and an amazingly unknown Carl Hall sings a fantastic number that never appears on "oldies" stations, as is the case with Percy Sledge's "Baby Baby baby." Why? I don't know, but at least you can buy this stuff here.

Aretha Franklin: My Way
Why this was only issued overseas is anybody's guess. She wasn't trying to put Frank Sinatra to shame; just her own personal take on it...and a mighty dang good one!

Margie Joseph: It's Growing
A nice, easy-tempoed drum and bass-laiden cover of an early Temptations' record. She adds a cool touch too it with her silky-smooth voice.

Patti LaBelle and the Bluebells: Count the Days
A solid track; could have been a great hit because it sounds like it had some potential. The bells and piano at the beginning set the stage before the bass and drums come in with a solid groove.

Doris Troy: Please Little Angel
"Just One Look" wasn't all. This cute-sounding number is quite enjoyable. Very dated, I must say; has a good '60s feel to it.

Mary Wells: Hands Off My Baby
Mary Wells after Motown continued to sing and be around Motown-like material. Somehow it just didn't quite cut it with her at Atlantic. This would have made a nice hit for her; love the congas and vibes at the beginning.

Dee Dee Sharp: My Best Friend's Man
Even Miss "Mashed Potato Time" got to work with Atlantic. In this sentimental-sounding track, you can't help but have pity on her.

Dee Dee Warwick: Rescue Me
This cover of the Fontella Bass classic has a great rhythmic drive too it, but somehow that same energy just isn't there. It sounds good in its own respect, but isn't quite the same.

Baby Washington: What Becomes of the Brokenhearted
This cover, on the other hand, rivals Jimmy Ruffin's original closely. She has a good contralto tone.

Irma Thomas: Full Time Woman
The melody felt like it existed forever; a real poignant-sounding ballad.

Judy Clay: I've Got To Love Somebody's Baby
It sounds like something you'd hear in one of those late-night dimly lit blues clubs. Johnnie Taylor originally did it at Stax some years before; exquisite cover.

Esther Phillips: Cheater Man
Definitely, could have been a huge hit. Esther's nasally voice, a rock solid groove and some great lyrics made a perfect combination. The producrs on this track are the same ones who worked with the blue-eyed soul group, the Box
Tops.

Laura Lee: What A Man
It has a lost classic touch to it. The horn section and backing vocals reflect that. Laura Lee was a gospel singer, and she carries that over fully in this upbeat number.

The Sweet Inspirations: Ain't Nothing Gonna Change Me
This is every bit of a gospel-like number. Everything they do in here is so cool from singing in unison to the call and response with the lead singer. Very righteous!

Jackie Moore: It Ain't Who You Know
Listen to the first few notes that Jackie sings, and wonder where else you've heard a similar sounding melody. A great, easy to listen to number. Backing vocals are silky-smooth.

Bettye Swann: I Ain't That Easy To Lose
Perhaps a perfectly produced and orchestrated record. From the wah-wah guitar to the rapid-fire drums to the added effects with the woodwinds and strings and to the call and response backing vocals at the chorus with Bettye's mellow voice.

Barbara Lewis: Thankful For What I Got
It's just how you will feel after absorbing these lost treasures. This track has an easy yet bouncy swing to it, and the backing vocals are fantastic sounding at the end of the chorus when they're basically saying "Ditto what Barbara says."

This compilation, along with the "Soul Brothers" volume, makes a great addition to any soul music lover's library.

Not exceptional, but................2006-09-24

Once again, Atlantic Records opens its archives for some good little-known soul, selected by Brit Soul expert Dave Nathan.

Most of this is really not that hot, but there are two really wonderful tunes from two legends of the genre. Aretha Franklin putting her stamp on Sinatra's "My Way" and Patti LaBelle and the Bluebells truly beautuful "1-2-3-4-5-6-7 Count The Days." I'm not even a big fan of Patti Labelle and I can not let this song spin on my CD player just once at a time!

But other than that, buy a good used copy of this CD.

The best honky tonk CD .......2006-11-07

MIss Leslie and Her Juke-Jointers have put out the best honky tonk CD any fan of real country music could want. Full of honky tonk piano, fiddles, steel, and great lyrics, this CD is absolutely amazing. Forget the trash Nashville puts out that it calls country. This is the real thing: good old-fashioned, stone-cold, 100%, hard-core country.

This is one of the stongest REAL Country Cds that I have heard in a long time. The sound and feel of Patsy Cline and other classic country greats are on every tune. I can't wait for the next record.

Great Honky Tonk.......2005-11-10

This Honky Tonk at it's finest. Country music needs more artists like Miss Leslie and fewer of the pop wannabees parading around as country musicians.

A Superb Debut CD.......2005-09-17

Today I received a superb debut cd by Miss Leslie & the Juke-Jointers. In these days of bad 70's rock passing as Real Country Music it is refreshing to hear a young Country Singer who sings Country the way God, Hank Williams Sr, Lefty Frizzell and Patsy Cline intended it to be sung. Miss Leslie is backed by an outstanding band that plays Honky Tonk with an authenic hardwood sound not often heard today. She does a great job on the George Jones Classic "Talk to Me Lonesome Heart". Other superb tracks include "Honky Tonk No More, "Heavy On The Lonesome", "Honky Tonk Gal", and I'll Be Gone Tonight". The only complaint I have about this cd is it only had 13 tracks instead of thirty!

Y&T Rocks! I can't believe how good this is! Some of these
songs should've been hits! I feel like I bought a brand
new album or a greatest hits package. Most demos bands
release are not good but not this one. Songs like Crazy
Make Love, Over Under and Showdown are some of the best
songs they ever wrote. If your tired of all the garbage
out there and have no new music to listen to, you need
to hear this and feel good that there is still good hard
rock out there. Thanks to Y&T for keeping rock alive!!!!

Y & T was such a great band on those releases and maybe even up to Down for the Count, but somewhere, this band truly lost it's way. Listen to the CD "Contagious" and besides the title cut, each song is structured to mirror a "hit" from another band such as Def Lep, G 'n' R, etc. The fact was the guys stopped writing great songs and tried to write the next hit, trying so hard that they lost what made them great in the first place. Every Y & T fan wanted the "10" record to be sooo good but we all know how bad that was. This is a collection of mostly rockers that makes Contagious and the 10 record so weak that if this collection was released instead of either of those, Y & T would not have left in the first place. Not every song is a winner here such as "Crazy make Love", a song that sounds more than just a bit like 2 different Whitesnake songs combined bringing my point crystal clear. The year is 2005 and these songs are at least 17 years old if not older but still sound very fresh today. We need this collection to bring some class back to the hard rock and heavy metal scene. Thanks Dave and company for releasing this and the other volume. It is great to here you again and I just wish most of these would have seen the light of day when they were recorded but better late than never. Now come out to Pittsburgh and play a show. Last time I saw you, you guys opened up for Motley Crue. Say What!

Another surprising collection of could-have-been hits.......2005-03-09

The Good
We start off with a few Ronnie Montrose co-penned numbers. "Face to Face" has a wicked guitar riff that's prominent throughout, while "Showdown" is loaded with hard charging rhythms and strong vocals. For the third Montrose ditty, we have an 80s rock cliché alert: A song that uses a popular idiom for its title, "Ashes to Ashes". "Love Has No Cure" was written originally for the Contagious album, it has a cool electronic guitar riff that mixes well with Meniketti's powerful melodic vocals. Dave admits in the liner notes that he pretty much ripped off two sources for the bluesy ballad "Help Me Hear Me". The lyrics were taken from a poem by an anonymous author that he read in school, while the music was `borrowed' from Deep Purple's "Gypsy". Chugga-chugga riffing controls the feel of "New Kid in Town". It's the proverbial anthem for the outsider in a new environment. For such a great build up, the chorus is kind of weak musically. The solo is quite impressive though.

"Long Time Coming" is a demo that shares the same verse as "Cold Day in Hell", which appeared on 1995's Musically Incorrect. Another track they may sound familiar is Dance Dance Dance. This one had several name changes apparently. It appeared on 1987's Contagious as L.A. Rocks because its second title "Boys Night Out" was going to be used by Sammy Hagar that same year. Umm...someone had Whitesnake's "Slow & Easy" cranked up in the background when they wrote "Crazy Make Love". Meniketti even delivers a Coverdale style. "Hands of Time" is a powerful and emotional acoustic ballad that appeared on an AIDS charity album originally. The acoustic tones are great. Y & T throws in a dark yet heavy, sexually charged rocker about my favorite type of girls, "Bad Bad Girls".

The Bad
I have to agree with Dave Meniketti when he says in the liner notes that "More" has a lot of quality issues and the chorus is kind of lame.

Good not quite as good as Vol 1, however.......2004-12-07

This another collection of unrleased songs from y and t. A couple of them are alternate versions of songs on other cd's released before Dance, Dance, Dance(basically LA Rocks) and an excellent accoustic version of Hands of Time. Most of this cd reminds of Contagious cd. Vol1 has several songs that I don't know how they didn't make to the original albums or cd's...better than songs that made those cd's. This cd has a few but not as many songs in that category. If you like the better stuff off of Contagiuos and Ten then you should like this cd really well.

ROCKS FRONT TO BACK!.......2007-04-29

someone gave this CD a mere 2 stars but I have to disagree. This disc rocks all the way through. Any number of songs here could have been hits. I always loved Y&T's brand of rock. Dave Meniketti is a superb guitarist who knows what rock is all about. And kudos to one one my favorite rock drummers, Leonard Haze, he tears it up here as he usually does. This disc may not be as polished as some of their others but don't let that stop you. I've seen this band twice and let me tell you, they deliver the goods!

BRILLIANT COLLECTION.......2005-11-21

By these Bay area Blues Metal pioneers. nice to see they are still putting out some quality music for the long time fans . Always thought Y&T were dealt a cruel blow in terms of their timing. The 80's Hair Metal garbage scene totally snuffed out so much of the potential this band had. But before that could happen, they produced 5 absolutely Flawless Heavy Metal Jewels ( First 2 Yesterday and Todays albums, Earthshaker, Black Tiger,Meanstreak)
Not surprising these boys are from the bay area as they sowed the seeds for the Bay area thrash movement that followed about 6 years after their debut album.

Wow. I bought vol. 2 first and was blown away. After the
second listen of this I love it. It's awesome. It rocks
just as much. It feels like I have 2 new Y&T albums to
listen to for many years. Still love the older stuff too.
Highly recommended. Get it now!

Each song on this collection could have easily been a hit.......2005-02-20

The Good
Written originally for the Ten album, "Shout It Out" is comparable to any other Y & T song out there. "Wild If I Wanna" is a rock anthem that was written for the movie Out of Bounds. Dave sounds a little like 80s-era Sammy Hagar as he nails the catchy chorus. "In the Name of Love" is an 80s power ballad with a slow build up and a strong chorus. The warm keyboard tones add dimension. Lots of meaty chugga-chugga riffs dominate "Dirty Love". The song's a little silly, but not a crazy as some sexually charges rock songs. "Play by Play" find the group experimenting with funky seventies riffs and grooves. Dave's vocals are a bit more gritty and soulful too. "Short Arms" is about Y & T's manager at the time, but everyone knows someone just as cheap as this guy. The main riff is killer.

AC/DC had "A Whole Lotta Rosie", and Y & T have "16 Tons". The song has been shelved since the Down for the Count album. It's funny as hell: Some like em thin / some like em lean / some like em plump / but this was obscene. Speaking of AC/DC, Y & T were inspired by the group when they toured with them, so they wrote the riff oriented "Shake Down". 80s rock cliché alert (a song with the word rock in it): The anthemic rocker "Give Me Rock" was originally written in 1982, but was finished in 2003 after Y & T got back together. 80s rock cliché alert (a song about a car): "Driver" has fast paced rhythms and guitar licks to boot. "Rockzilla Rollaroid" is Y & T's attempt at `space rock', which was big in the 70s. It's a good thing it didn't work out for them.

The Verdict
A lot of demos & unreleased collections are usually scraps that only die-hard fans would enjoy, but not UnEarthed Vol. 1. Each song on this collection could have easily been a hit single for the group. This collection is sure to appeal to die hard fans, casual fans, and newcomers alike.

Leave it at the store!!!!!.......2004-06-18

Just one piece of advice to anyone who feels Y&T produced nothing but weak singalong songs after Mean Streak: don't even bother to listen to this one, cause it's very clear why these songs never made it into one of their even weakest releases.....90% of the songs here are so lame they should've stayed 'uncovered'.
Why 2 stars then?? Well, one for the 2 really good tracks on this release and one because no matter what....Y&T will always have a special place in this 37 year old's heart!!

Favourite Merseybeat Band.......2006-03-09

The Undertakers my favourite Merseybeat band. Mashed potato an all time favourite taken to new hights with the incredible voice of lead singer Jackie Lomax. Great sax playing too.I used to watch these guys play in The Cavern Club back in 63 they where so good.
Not all the tracks are classic but highly recommended for any Merseybeat fans

Jackie will be appearing at the Bowlful of Blues this August,2005 in Ojai, California. He is a local resident but Robben Ford takes the top spot.

Many U.S. Beatles fans know him for his version of George's
Sour Milk Sea, a White Album era Apple release. This excellent release of earlier material completes that picture.

A beautiful noise, best appreciated at high volume.......2001-08-27

Jackie Lomax is a long-lost/never found gem. One of the best white R&B/soul voices to have come out of the sixties and seventies, he was unappreciated at the time and unheard of today and what a shame that is for lovers of great blues/soul/pop music. He started out as the lead vocalist and bass-player in the Undertakers, the rockingest, stompingest live act to come out of Liverpool (and that includes the Beatles). They were signed to Pye Records at the height of Merseybeat but were mismanaged and badly advised, especially in relation to which tracks would best represent them on singles: all those singles are here, and apart from JUST A LITTLE BIT, their only chart entry, every B-side is stronger than the A-sides foisted upon them by their record label. They failed to make any commercial impact and after a spell in America they split up. In addition to the eight sides issued as singles by Pye and both sides of their only US single, this CD contains an album's-worth of material recorded in 1965 but never released until UNEARTHED. British R&B, pop, prototype Freakbeat, whatever category the tracks might fall into, it's a beautiful noise and best appreciated at high volume. Wonderful stuff.

Bugs Pemberton was the drummer in The Undertakers and also played with many other bands including Uriah Heap and Nikki Barclay.

The Undertakers epitomise the Merseybeats and in the opinion of a lot of people, were up there with The Beatles.

Buy this CD and open a whole new horizon for yourself.

This is a crazy album! I cannot get enough of listening to this one! I bought this on vinyl the day it came out as the record store only had one copy. I had never heard a song on it. I just had a hunch from the album art alone that this was going to be a good album,not to mention the artist. I had been waiting for a cd remastered release,and was pleased to see previously unreleased (6) added tracks(to make buying it again MORE pleasant).A little pricey,but well WORTH IT! The six additional tracks are NOT throwaways.Due to the fact that they are as good as the others on the album,they were simply not used because vinyl could not hold all 20 songs. BUY THIS ALBUM!! Turn out the lights,listen in total darkness;or by candle light. EVERY SONG'S A GEM!!!!

OUT OF THIS WORLD!.......2005-08-13

I would consider this one of the best of Steve Kilbey's solo efforts - up there with remindlessness and the slow crack. It took a few listenings for this album to grow on me - now I can't stop listening to it! There are 20 songs on this album, and he intermingles instrumentals in between songs with lyrics. The sound quality on this CD is excellent!! My favorites are Out of This World, Judgement Day, My Birthday - the Moon Festival, and Hellopolis. This is a must for any Steve Kilbey fan.
