This is just dance music.......2006-12-09
I bought this CD expecting to get a compendium of the hottest bands in a genre where each band sounds unlike every other band. Gothic music is, after all, about unique perspective and artistry. When I first decided to get this CD, it was a choice between it and a CD by Voltaire. I now wish I had gotten the Voltaire CD. Because this CD does not have Goth music on it.
Oh, the bands are Goth. But they've been remixed in such a way that they all sound alike. I had difficulty knowing without looking when one song ended and another began. Even the incredibly normally unmistakeable sound of the talented Cruxshadows was lost in the remix process.
I will give it this, though: the second and third CDs are better than the first CD. At least, it was easier to tell the songs apart. I give it two stars because it is okay music, if you like dance music, but this CD is NOT representative of the Gothic genre. If I had been able to listen to it before buying it, I wouldn't have. Very disappointing.
For fans of NeoGoth or Darkwave...This is it........2006-06-24
This album singlehandedly introduced me into a thrilling new genre. I'm very eclectic in my tastes, but I had no idea what I was missing before listening to NeoGoth. Being a NIN fan, I thought it might be worth buying, but MY GOD! It is fantastic! If you like any kind of techno, you may find something new here to appreciate.
If you are a neogoth/darkwave/dark electronic fan, you will definitely want this album. Even if you are an industrial/EBM fan, you may find that this album is worth your time. Yes, there are a few artists/songs on here that are gar-bahj. But altogether, it is wicked.
Synthpop/futurepop dreck.......2005-11-21
This album is nothing more than a catalogue of all of the synthpop/futurepop dreck that has been masking itself as goth and industrial music since the late 1990's. Having heard these bands played in clubs I can honestly say that I couldn't tell one from another. Why? Because ALL of them sound exactly the same. They have the same exact beats and same exact angst driven lyrics. I can see why some teens would like them, but if you are above the age of 30,like I am,they will most likely annoy you and make you want to bang your head against a wall.
To those of you who have been calling this music goth please think again. In the 1980's there was a clear distinction between synthpop(Depeche Mode,Book Of Love,etc...) and goth(Christian Death,Sisters Of Mercy). Please don't confuse the two, because they are not the same.
this is NOT industrial music.......2005-11-09
i have been listening to industrial since the early 90's, skinny puppy, thrill kill, REVCO, and i am still heavily into industrial, android lust, i, parasite, ect. I bought this CD to maybe check out some enw industrial bands, man was i suprised at what they are passing off as industril, this is nothing more than the cheesiest, rave till dawn, K-mart clearance bin techno i have ever herd, with vocals on top, this is NOT INDUTSRIAL music, industrial music is dark and noisy and intense, not trance with vocals. If you are looking for some real industrial, email me, i will point you in the right direction, if you are new to industrial DO NOT BUY THIS CD, it is not industrial.
An excellent compilation of the new wave in Gothic music........2005-06-28
After purchasing this set at my local music store, I gave it a good few listenings over the next week or so. What I had heard exited my senses and introduced me to several artists new to me and familiar artists given a new look by talented musicians. I enjoyed the variety of different EBM, industrial, and darkwave sounds that enthralled my brain in an orgy of different sounds sensations. I would recomend this to anyone wanting to get into new Goth music, other than the tradional artists of days past.

Like partying with dear old friends you've never met before.......2005-02-04
If you like the Virgin/Some Bizarre "caucasian funk" era of CabVol, you're intimately familiar with these songs, but almost certainly not with most of the versions presented here. And yes, they are more than different enough to be engrossing and fun even if you've heard the albums a thousand times. It's also a nice best of from this era for the uninitiated or those familiar with the material but who only feel they need the "singles" of this era. In the absence of reissues of CODE and The Covenant, The Sword, and the Arm of the Lord, this also forms a good stopgap.
This is truly a multipurpose CabVol CD, and one even a casual fan will find delightful. It deserves a 4.5, but that option is not offered. Buy it and try not to pee yourself laughing when you hear the version of Don't Argue they included...

Album Description
This side project of Icon Of Coil frontman Andy LaPlegua combines power noise elements and dance fueled beats to create a distinct sound amidst the monotony of the electronic scene. This is the band's debut--fifteen loud and scathing tracks that pound ruthlessly from beginning to end. Incorporating a mix of industrial, noise, and trance elements, "This Is My Battlefield" provides a generous blend of genres and languages as it switches between German and English, in turn producing an addictive sound.
Customer Reviews:
violently bad.......2006-06-16
I beg you to buy this album and convince me of one quality track. You might even be able to find it in the $.99 bin, and if you can't it should be. The lyrics are the worst that I have ever heard on electronicy music(if you can even call "This is my battlefield" electronic). If you like to piss of your older brothers or your mother with violently banging bass and noise coming from your stereo.. buy this album. If your attempting to expand your electronic horizons try IAMX. They are also german and put Panzer ag's ..Battlefield to absolute shame.
Not half bad..........2006-05-12
Not half good either. I'm writing this after doing my review for the second [and much better] Panzer AG album "Your World is Burning". Mainly because I needed to reflect a bit and wash over some of the thoughts I have on this debut release. This album starts off with a bit of a bang with "Filth God", some great kicking drums and a fast pace, with some deep drum kicks and some silly Lyrics about "What does God want from him". You've heard this type of stuff before. You can throw a rock at about any aggro EBM band and you'll get pretty much the same song with the forsaken cry of disdain and loathing about this thing we call God and life. "Battlefield" feels like it should have been the first track. Some fantastic choir sounds giving it that epic and tragic feel, like witnessing a great war over enemy territory with exploding mortar shells, gunfire, squeeling tank treads, and cries for victory while sending you catchy aural noise attacks at your senses fixed with a memorable basslines. A great track.
Overall the album plays a tennis match over good and "not so great" songs through about 60mins of play time. The "not so great" songs are usually the obvious filler tracks just to make the album longer. My personal favorite track on the album is "Behind a Gasmask". Mainly because it stands out above everything else you'll hear. It's the only song in the album that actually strays away from the typical formula and becomes more of an industrial metal track. The same noise and bass effects are still there, but add some guitar work and glitchy vocal effects and you'll get what I'm saying. Definatly the best track in the album. Again the lyrics are not that deep or inspiring, but their fun and catchy. And it'll really get stuck in your head [I know it got in mine].
So basically the album teeters between the same aggro EBM you've all heard before [since it kinda sounds a lot like CombiChrist in most ways], and some really interesting laid out songs that will get your attention. I know I could have laid out a track listing on the good and "not so great" tracks more specifically, but I would rather you check it out for yourself. And basically because I just don't feel like it :). This album is a good start on Panzer AG, however I believe the second outing is the better album of the 2.
I gave this 3 stars because it has some really good and decent tracks, but it also has more of the same that we've all heard before, in that it never really gains any new territory in the industrial music area. Thanks for reading my review and I hoped I gave you some insight for this album :).
Music for a certian crowd.......2005-09-21
I was originally a fan of Icon of Coil, and later Combichrist before i bought this album. I knew that IoC and Combi were pretty different in their sound, so I didn't know what to expect from "this is my battle field". The thing I liked about IoC was it's metaphorical lyrics (some say the lyrics are crap, but it really depends on how much thinking you want to put into them). But the thing i loved about Combichrist (the "everybody hates you" album) was the extreme abrasiveness of the base and beats, hence the sub-genre "Power Noise".
In Panzer AG you get more of the abrasive militaristic rhythms, in fact, more so than combichrist. My favorite song is "this is my battle field" the best song on the album in my opinion. it starts out with stupid movie sound bites (which i don't mind like some do), but then it hits you like and exlposive shell when andy yells, "THIS IS MY WARRRRR!!!" and under the exposive "this is my war" is a womans choir doing epic sounding "ahhhh's". If the song is playing with MAX volume, you'll definitely feel a powerful emotion (almost orgasmic for me).
"Beriet" is another good one for me, there's some cool sounds in that one, and some interesting beat pounds in the middle of the song.
Some of my friends (who arn't much fans of electronica industrial in the first place) think that PANZER AG is way too abrasive on the ears. While that might hold some truth, it's music to mine. It's definitely intense stuff, and it definitely gets me blood pumping.
If you can deal with awful lyrics, pick this up!.......2005-02-17
First things first. If you put alot of emphasis on lyrics then don't buy this cd. The lyrics featured on this cd are some of the worst I've ever heard in the EBM / Industrial genre, which should definitely give you an idea of how bad they are. But, when I listen to electronic music, lyrics aren't really what I'm looking for, it's the music that they're put to, and I must say, the music is superb. This cd is what I've been waiting for for a long time in this genre. It's brutal, distorted, militant, and at times, even beautiful. Imagine :wumpscut:'s earlier material utilizing (exceedingly) better production and equipment. Some highlights from this cd are "Filth God" (which has some splendid vocals if you can block out the lyrics), "Bereit", and "It Is All In Your Head". Oh, and I can't forget one last detail... The first page in the booklet is a really neat short story / poem that puts across some really great imagery (even though it seems to have nothing to do with the music at all)and makes me think that Andy is indeed a good writer, just not in the department of song lyrics.
This is my battlefield.......2004-12-21
I am a big Icon of Coil fan. I didn't know until recently that IoC frontman Andy LaPlegua had a side project called Panzer Ag until last week. I listened to a sample of the album and liked what I heard. I picked up the cd a couple of weekends ago. I have to say that Panzer Ag's music is a far cry from Icon of Coil. The music is more abrasive and not as catchy as IoC's music, nevertheless it is a good album. I had to listen to "This is My Battlefield" a few times to allow the music to sink in. The music reminded me of Funker Vogt at times. Andy's vocals are more rough around the edges yet he maintains his familiar monotonous sound that is heard in IoC's music. The lyrics are a mix of German and english, with a healthy dose of irony and satire. The standout tracks for me is "When Death Embrace Me" (the catchiest song on the album), "Bereit", and "Tides That Kill". I especially love "When Death Embrace Me". It almost sounds like a song that IoC would do. I loved the female vocals on "Bereit". The one song I really didn't care for was the repetitiveness of "Panzer". That song is the weakest track on the cd for me. The other song I wasn't crazy about is the last song "Drunke I Tarrer". It was long and repetitive with no vocals. The album was a bit too long for my taste and I could have done without a couple of songs but overall I feel taht "This is My Battlefield" is a pretty solid industrial album from Panzer Ag. I look forward to hearing more music from them in the future.

Decent collection for the price.......2005-10-14
I bought this CD set because it was a recommendation from Amazon based on my purchase of Neo-Goth. It's good, but not great. Some of it is just too generic to be on a collection of industrial, and they left out some fantastic talents in the genre, but if you are going on a long car trip or want a couple of CD's you can listen to at work and not kick yourself for forgetting to bring home over the weekend, this is it.
It could have been better.......2004-11-05
I can't say that it's a bad album, but where's nine inch nails or ministry...?
Couldn't ask for a better industrial compilation.......2000-11-27
I originally purchased this set because I recognized a few bands on it (Die Krupps, Front Line Assembly, etc) and because it only cost.... for 3 CD's. I figured I could at least find a few songs on the 3 discs that would make it worth my money. What I didn't expect was for almost every song to be great! Even on my first time through the first CD, I thought to myself "Wow, each of these songs sound like the one song that you'd buy an entire CD for!". If you like industrial music, you will not be disappointed. Actually, if you're more into techno music, I would recommend this CD for you also. The third disc seems to be way into the techno side of the industrial spectrum, which creates some good variety in the compilation.
These CDs have been the only thing played in my car for the last 5 days since I got it in the mail!

it sure did. save some cash and buy some razor blades. this one's a downer.
THE BEST ALBUM OF 1999.......1999-09-06
When I saw Gooding in concert, during the Factory Tour at the Continental in New York City, I was blown away. Not only was it one of the best shows I have seen all year it was an experience. Once I bought the CD, I was even more amazed. For anyone who wants to listen to something different and new, this is definately the one to get. It IS the best CD of 99.
So far, best album I've gotten this year.......1999-04-04
Factory Blue is the soundtrack to an unrealized film script. The tried-and-true premise of music for nonexistent films is one that can be really pretentious in the wrong hands, but brilliant in the correct ones. Suffice it to say that Gooding doesn't fall onto the pretentious side. This all-instrumental album has a little bit of a lot of different types of music, but manages to transcend and defy genres, as opposed to just merely mix them. This is one of the best all-instrumental albums of all time, right up there with Phylr's Contra La Puerta, Peter Gabriel's Passion, Barry Adamson's Moss Side Story, Lab Report's Terminal and Delerium's Syrophenikan. Get it.
Soundtrack for a Beautiful Apocalypse.......1998-09-01
I found this cd under 'Misc. G' at a record store in my area. I was looking for something else but this caught my eye. Seemed like interesting stuff. After listening, I can say that my intuition was right this time. This is a fine piece of work. I hoped to find other selections by this artist but no such luck. These elegant, dark instrumentals will have to do for now. The occasional use of voice adds to the music well and clarifies the messages here. And, I love the use of percussive effects. The subtitle to this is "songs from the unrealized film script" -- makes me wonder what that film would have been like to watch.

Customer Reviews:
What are you reviewing?!?.......2005-10-20
I have no idea what techno CD these people are reviewing, but it is definately not this one. Almost every song on this compilation is standard fare on most other compilations. If you listen to Nazarene, Walking on your Hands, Pagan Love Song, Ignore the Machine, Snake Dance, Thalia, Witches, or Spiritual Cramp and you think they are techno, then you've got something wrong with your head. There are several songs with a 'techno' flavour, absolutely, but they are still quite goth. What makes the genre so great is that it's not brutally standardized, like many others are. There is great diversity in goth music, and this covers most of that diversity, though not quite all, unfortunately.
Good but not 5 star quality.......2005-03-23
This is a good one to ADD to your collection. If you are looking for definitive Gothic Rock roots then get Gothic Rock the Ultimate Collection. There are two versions however. A 5 disc and a 6 disc. 5 has some stuff the 6 doesn't have and vice versa however the 6 is limited to a thousand copies made. This collection pulls a few songs off of that collection and others. A problem with alot of Cleo releases is overlap, although they are good most of the time. Start with Gothic Rock the Ultimate Collection as your core, then branch out with this one, This is Neo-Goth, This is Industrial, Goth Box, and then if you want more classic industrial get Black Box. This one is but a brick in the mausoleum wall.
This IS Goth!.......2005-01-28
Cradle of Filth!!! Cradle is about as Goth as my grandmother. This cd IS goth in a nice layed out way, too. It has all the requirements I would have for a goth CD, except maybe they could've sneaked in a few more of the older bands like Bauhaus, SoM, or Banshee.
....Not........2004-08-18
Ok, this is not Goth. This is not quite Techno, but many of the selections are closer to Techno than to Goth. But not even good Techno. A couple songs might be considered Trance, or even Club.. My daughter calls it "C.S.I. waiting to happen". Granted, I did not listen to all 3 CDs yet. I was only able to take it in small quantities. Not sure I will play this more than once. I was really looking for something much more along the lines of Cradle of Filth.. Oh well. At least it was cheap.
My suggestion: Skip this one, and ask a friend to recommend something better.
This is BAD Goth.......2004-06-13
Well, it looks like Cleopatra didn't do it with this one. 3 CDs for a very good price with mostly CRAP musci. You will find out of the millions of songs on this CD, about 3 stunning ones (Witches, Alice and Fire Dance), a few more good ones and the rest will bore you. They did a much better job with 'Gothic Divas'.

Album Description
The project's 3rd CD release, is now finally released after 3 years in the making. It promises to be much more vicious, and bring you further into the depths of the "Dominion", the cold, chaotic world brought forth in their previous CD.
