This was one of the best bands of its type back then. I saw them live and was totally blown away by the quality of the plaing and songwriting.

5 out of 5 stars This band..........2005-10-17

This CD is incredible from Choke. This band is my best ever. Each album is getting better, they're good music creators. Their lyrics are awesome, the guitars are incredibles, I miss their last show in Montreal and I can't wait to see them when they'll come back (I hope so).

3 out of 5 stars A Little Different.......2005-08-12

This Cd is good, but much different then regular choke albums, the songs are a lot softer and longer, not that thats bad. If you think of this album as its own album and dont compare to other choke albums it's pretty good.

5 out of 5 stars Slow Fade Or : How I Learned to Question Infinity.......2005-05-18

Choke has came out with another album that will surprise. The experimenting with guitar effects adds a new color of mood and the slow tempos feed curious ears. There are still elements that you recognize from previous albums, but at first listen you really notice a change. If you are stuck in a musical rut looking for a new sound you will not be disappointed.

Not bad as much as just plain weak. Flanged guitars and reverb ala early Cure paired with weak female vocals singing lyrics that sound like they were written by a community college art student trying too hard to be profound. Track down an old Strange Boutique album or Slowdive CD instead if you like this formula.

3 out of 5 stars Passable shoegaze downbeat meanderings.......2006-06-25

Despite being "recorded by Steve Albini," this album does not depart much from this L.A. quartet's previous indie "...Opaque..." LP or the "Kindling" EP. I cannot hear any distinct power that the talented Albini's studio has added to the material he's been given by the unfortunately pedestrian efforts of this band. It saunters along but leaves no lasting impression after the songs end. The notable difference is that all of the songs this time around for SSF stick only to the shoegazing pattern rather than any free-jazz or synth-pop styles. While this choice is wise, the ability of the band to make the songs memorable this time around has sadly escaped them, despite the "name" producer and the chance to breakthrough to a wider audience.

The music itself, on about a third of these cuts, is passable in a late-period Siouxsie/Cure/goth-lite ambiance, but it does not stand out enough on the majority of the cuts on its own merits. Simply put, this lacks sustained passion and suffers from an absence of invention. The vocals remind me of a nice girl who gets up at a party and sings respectably enough, but who lacks the guts and the emotion to make it big outside of her own backyard shindig. We who watch may applaud her, but politely, for we know deep down behind our polite smiles that she's meant only to be an amateur. Fervent fans of the more introspective and tamped-down efforts of such late 80s/early 90s sounds by Lush, Curve, or even Cocteau Twins may find the downbeat meanderings here more exciting than I have, however.

Product Description

The Slow Signal Fade's "Through The Opaque Air" is a moody, melodic, rock / pop amalgamation. With a vast collection of esoteric and sometimes conflicting influences, they have crafted a unique sound....a delicate blend of power and intimacy

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Yawn...........2005-11-25

I can't believe the rave reviews this band has received...here and in music mags. I was dumb enough to buy both their EPs without hearing them first, based on all the reviews I'd read. BAD JUDGEMENT on my part. Weak and completely lacking in dynamics despite what any reviewer has stated. Not bad as much as just plain weak. The guitarist likes to let you know they own a flanger pedal...on EVERY song. Pour on the reverb and pair it all up with weak lackluster rangeless female vocals singing lyrics that sound like they were written by a community college art student trying too hard to be profound. Track down an old Strange Boutique album or Slowdive CD instead if you like this formula, they do it much better.

Superb Mature Songwriting in a Prefab Sprout/Crowded House/Deacon Blue Vein.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Endless dreams........2002-02-26

It's pretty bizarre that the Miracle Mile don't have a deal yet. They produce top-quality pop music, perfectly crafted tunes and, isn't it great, totally catchy. Are you forever waiting for the next Blue Nile record or for another good Prefab Sprout album? Do you miss Crowded House, or Aztec Camera maybe, or Deacon Blue when they were a good band, back in 1987? Wait no more and play the Miracle Mile.
When I first did it, I thought that was the band I had been looking for for ages, the only one that stopped me from making top 10 compilations of my favourite songs to create perfection in a single tape. And I see the figures, the rankings, the charts, and I think: why does the world despise beauty so much?

5 out of 5 stars I love this band..........2002-02-20

...In fact I love everything they have done. In a perfect world they would have major label, international distribution. This title, plus the previous "Bicycle Theives" and "Candids" are well written, artfully arranged, and beautifully executed. Yes, comparisons (Prefab Sprout, Aztec Camera, Del Amitri, Sting...)are useful, but only to place them within a genre, as they don't sound like anyone else. When's the last time you bought a cd on a whim that totally surprised you and took over your life?

5 out of 5 stars WHY Hasn't This Band Been Recognized?.......2002-02-20

There are too many bands these days. Too many of them are capable of just one or two decent tunes. And too many of them get major label deals. How many times have you raced out to buy a CD, only to find that it's all .... except for the one song that got airplay?

Meanwhile, The Miracle Mile has released THREE flawless full-length albums, and no one's heard of them. This is criminal. "Slow Fade", the band's latest, is also their best - which is saying something, since their prior albums ("Bicycle Thieves" and "Candids") blew away just about everything else out there. Sweeter than Crowded House and wiser than Travis, The Miracle Mile makes the kind of music that anyone would love. It's hard to imagine a musical taste that wouldn't be sublimely seduced by singer-songwriter Trevor Jones' haunting, heartbreaking songs. Particularly since the musicianship on display puts the average hitmaker to shame. To listen to "Slow Fade" for the first time is to make a shattering discovery.

If you love brilliant, tuneful pop writing, buy this CD. Then get all your friends to buy it. This kind of perfection needs our support.
