This boxed set is by far one of the best purchases I have ever made. As a Purcell freak, this hits every button I have. The cast of characters include the inequitable Robert King, New College Choir, Bowman, and a host of other venerable persons. Likewise the attention to period performance of these works makes it an essential addition to the library of any serious anglophile/Musicologist etc. Now if only the Britten Realizations of all Purcell's songs could be recorded alongside the originals! You will Love this set!

John Langstaff, now 83 years of age, is the founder and director emeritus of Revels, the non-profit performing arts company that produces Revels Records as well as 'The Christmas Revels' annual winter solstice celebrations in 12 cities across the country. This is the complete collection of Langstaff's disc, featuring all four acclaimed previously re-released CDs originally recorded in England. The recordings have been digitally re-mastered at London's famed Abbey Road Studios. Included are many traditional British and American folk songs and ballads, most with simple, art song settings. Legendary pianists Sir Gerald Moore, Sam Mason and John Powell, as well as guitarist Martin Best, are featured.

Total party classic!.......2006-07-08

Put this in your CD player and you'll be set for the night. The album is like a time machine, sending you back to 60s London, during the height of the mod scene. Unless you were a fixture at mod clubs in the 60s or are somewhat of an expert, there's a very, very good chance you've only heard two or three songs on here. Another great thing about the album is that it's no niche album; the great tunes, Hammond organ, and Northern Soul beat throughout are universal. It's catchy and dancable, and I guarantee that when you play it people will come up to you and beg to borrow it. There are no low points on this album, in terms of tempo (there's nothing you can't dance to) or quality (not a single clunker to be found). The only downside is the price, which is pretty high. Unfortunately most decent mod comps on Amazon are not cheap. But if you are going to spend your money on a CD, the bang for the buck that Blow Up A-Go-Go! offers is unbeatable.

This cd always puts me in a good mood when I'm sad. Hee....It has some really cool stuff on it! Anywhere from sixties soul, french pop, garage, lounge....spencer davis group-I'm a Man, the Kinks-She's got everything, Jacques Dutronc-Le responsable, the shadows of knight- Shake, Georgie Fame-Somebody stole my thunder...yeah yeah......those are my favorites!!! Like a Party at Austin Power's Pad.......2000-08-17

This disc is so groovy it's hard to imagine a party happening prior to its release. Created by the experienced professionals of the Blow Up club in London, flying with this album is like being with the most veteran pilot: your pleasure and safety are 100% assured. All of the mostly obscure songs are upbeat and fun, all sound like they're from a super shaggy late 60s party. But there's a lot of variety: most tracks are instrumental, some are vocal; most are vintage late 60s, but some are supercool current retro artists like band-to-watch Big Boss Man. The disc is SOAKED with righteous Hammond organ and swinging tamborine. Dig it!

Loved the Gap ad, loved this brief CD much more.......2001-06-25

I fell in love with "Wild Elephants" from the moment I saw it in Gap dance commercials a couple years ago.

This CD has that song, but it also provides a big surprise for those who remember the early Seventies: two classic go-go dance songs by Syd Dale, both of which were popular in ads, films and TV shows from that era. I didn't recognize the song names, but once I played them I was hooked on hip flashbacks to the pre-disco Seventies, when Goldie Hawn was a hip young Laugh-In girl.

Album Description

"Theme Composed by Jerry Goldsmith" Jericho was a WWII adventure series following three Allied specialists on secret missions throughout Europe. The theme and second episode were scored by Jerry Goldsmith in his military-suspense mode, replacing a theme by Lalo Schifrin who had scored the pilot. Goldsmith's theme and complete episode score are included on this CD, as are Schifrin's unused theme and a suite from his pilot score, significantly foreshadowing his music to Mission: Impossible. The remainder of Jericho was scored by Morton Stevens, Gerald Fried and Richard Shores, and suites from all of their episodes are included. The music recalls the style of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. but perhaps more grim. "Music Composed and Conducted by Johnny Williams" The Ghostbreaker was a one-hour pilot starring Kerwin Mathews as a parapsychologist investigator; although foreshadowing such television series as Kolchak: The Night Staker and The X-Files, it did not proceed to a series. The theme and pilot score to The Ghostbreaker were by none other than John (then "Johnny") Williams, who wrote a dynamite theme that compares favorably to his TV work for Irwin Allen, and a creepy score including harpsichord and solo soprano. The totality of Williams's score is included here -- a forgotten jewel by one of the world's most famous composers.
