Good Midwest Music.......2002-08-17
I heard about a 40 second clip of "December By Chance" on a Tosh Townend video on the Element Skateboards website. I couldn't get the guitar out of my head after that. I bought the album on impulse, and I really can not say I am dissapointed.
This album was produced by Ed Rose at Red House Recording Studios in Eudora, Kansas (10 minutes from my hometown.) Some may know Ed Rose from the Get Up Kids, Coalesce, Burn It Down etc.) His producing really shines on this album. There is definitely a hint (or more) of the Get Up Kids on this album, but the same can be said for a lot of midwest bands.
This CD goes from hard, guitar driven rock, to more melodic, emotional music. The subject matter is definitely the usual emo (girls, love gone bad, etc.) One could view this as sappy, but it really does make this CD sound like it came from the heart. December By Chance is still the best song on the album in my opinion. The slow opening building up into a pound of guitars and wonderful vocals make it so great.
All in all, I would have given this album a 4.5. This is due to the sometimes too sappy lyrics. However, it is stil a great CD, and any fan of midwest emo music or the producing of Ed Rose should pick it up.
