Now I love Nine Inch Nails (Still do .... even in 2007) This was an odd listen but it seriously grows on you after a while. Come on now....dance to this chaos! Good stuff!

3 out of 5 stars o screaming slave.......2007-05-27

I just got the cd today and the first hearing was pretty harsh. I wasnt too thrilled with the last 3 mixes, especially screaming slave. Like most reviews say, screaming slave is basically all noise. There arent many words on these tracks- sounds something that you would hear at a undergound club. I usually like most of trent's work- maybe i will feel differently after a couple more plays. However I know i will def not be listening to screaming slave anytime soon.

I really dont recommend this for someone that is just starting to listen to NIN. This is very raw industrial music

4 out of 5 stars Most definitely something different. .......2006-12-07

Let me start by saying that if you're a fan of the more alternative style of Nine Inch Nails, or just a huge fan of Halo 5 in itself, then this EP might not be for you.

Fixed is one of those rare experiments where a musician went ahead and went a little insane in the studio. This album is, essentially, distorted noise. If you thought the guitars on Broken were capable of shredding eardrums, wait until you hear the shrieking wind-up intro of Screaming Slave. Fixed is LOUD, and its out to make ears bleed and heads spin.

Granted, none of this is to say its a bad album. I love anything by NIN. But this album has its moments where there's no melody or rhythm going, and unless you REALLY focus, you probably WILL get lost and turned off by what you hear.

Gave Up gives a completely new take on the original, going for a much more chopped up style than anything. It's fast, it overlaps itself vocally, and its probably the easiest song to follow along with, as its probably the only one without any moments of static distortion. 10/10

Wish (Remix) is LONG. It's the longest track on the album, settling in at 9:10, and it covers a LOT of different areas. Its got moments of repetition, its got moments that'll make you want to headbang, and then its got its rare moments where the original is 100% distinguishable. If any drummer were to ever attempt this track live, though, his arms (and legs!) would probably fall off. 9/10

Happiness In Slavery (Remix) is pretty much a HIS instrumental, except not, at the same time... Which isn't so much a bad thing. The original is incredible in itself, and if you liked it, you'll like this track, too. But, like most of the rest of the album, there are parts that will thrash your eardrums with screaming and heavy beats pounding at you from different directions. 9/10

Throw This Away starts off giving you the idea that, maybe, just maybe, this album has a calm track on it. But halfway through, and your head will ache once more if you've got it turned up. It's probably the simplest song on the album, but its still got its fair share of distorted noise. It's also the shortest track on the entire album, at 4:14... 7/10

Fist F***, the second remix of Wish, is a little... Different. It's one of the two songs that really tests your abilities at loving Reznors' work, as you'll be sitting there for nearly 90 seconds hearing the same repeated loop just getting louder and louder. Basically, it goes phased guitar loop for 90 seconds, reversed drums for a few seconds, guitar loop again, then a drum loop over... and over... and over... with some weird vocals, and then it suddenly cuts to some random quote from some random movie, and then its right back into another guitar riff loop that slowly speeds up and pounds its way through to the end of the track. This track redefines repetition, and, as much as I still love it, is possibly the worst out of the 6 tracks. 7/10

Screaming Slave is the final track on the album, and the one that basically determines if this album is for you or not. For 8 minutes, you will hear NOISE. And then some more NOISE. And then maybe some DISTORTED NOISE on top of that. It's as industrial as Trent Reznor has ever gotten, but its still incredible. If you have no patience for a long build up, you won't like this song. It takes over a minute for any actual MELODY to come into play. And once that happens, it just gets louder and noisier. At about 2 minutes in, its still winding up and getting louder, and then BANG! Something that sounds like a car having trouble starting up, and then your skull gets pummelled once more with heavy bass beats, with random noise flowing throughout. At around 3 minutes, it REALLY tries to lose you, and throws pure RANDOMNESS at you. About 3 minutes pass before the insanity breaks, and you get to hear the screams from the HIS video without any music over them. But once you hear a woman whisper "he's dead...", you get pummelled once more with pure noise, and extremely faint vocals somewhere underneath it all. 9/10

Overall, this album starts strong (Gave Up (Remix) is amazing), gets a little boring in the middle, and then comes back to full force through to the end. It's EXTREMELY different, and while $6.49 might not be that much, its still always good to know what to expect beforehand.

5 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised.......2006-07-02

I'm a big fan of Nine Inch Nails, yet I was hesitant at buying this EP. I'm not usually into 10-minute-long remixes, now matter how good the original song - they just drag on too long and are too repetitive. Despite this knowledge, I decided to buy this EP in order to bring my self a little closer to completing my NIN catalogue. However, upon first listen I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the tracks are somewhat long and drawn out (a mere 6 songs adds up to 40 minutes in total!) but I found myself enjoying them because they have that distinctive feel of darkness, gloom, depression and hatred that Trent Reznor channels through his music in his own special way, even if there are minimal vocals at times. It has style, and I feel that any true Nine Inch Nails fan should appreciate it or at least give it a go. I did...and I'm sure glad I did.

5 out of 5 stars A Stray From The Norm.......2006-05-16

This particular Nine Inch Nails Single strays from the normal format of club/dance sort of style and ventures into a totally new demension of Nine Inch Nails. This, I am talking about, is a mixture of Dark Ambient/Noise, Gabber, Industrial Dance Music (IDM) and Industrial. For the regular listeners of Nine Inch Nails this will be an eye opener and shocker. And to the here and there listener this will not be a good single for them. I say this only 'cause in some of tracks it will go from a simple Dark Ambient/Noise track and roll right into IDM. This is not a bad thing for those that listen to this sort of abstract type of tracks. But beware those that are new to Nine Inch Nails. Even avet listeners find this one hard to swallow. So if you are going to venture into this single, I would recemmend going into it with an open mind and open ears.

Album Description

Beautifully orchestrated emotional hardcore with the aggression of POISON THE WELL, the catchiness of SAVES THE DAY and the emotion of THURSDAY.

Acquiring their name from the famous children?s author, SILVERSTEIN was formed in early 2000 in an attempt to tear down the boundaries between hardcore, emo, and punk. With a multitude of influences ranging from the GET UP KIDS to GRADE, MINERAL to CAVE-IN, and PEDRO THE LION to SLAYER, SILVERSTEIN is a true mix of multiple musical styles. Unlike much of the stagnant post-hardcore scene today, SILVERSTEIN finds a way to keep the music unique and interesting but always catchy and memorable. Incorporating violins and coupling 6/8 meter rhythms with melodic choruses and screamo breakdowns, SILVERSTEIN instantly mesmerizes the listener with their harmonic intensity.

4 out of 5 stars above your typical screamo, but just barely..........2006-07-25

the best way to describe this album would be with an analogy...your typical average screamo symbolizing the ocean (water). "when broken is easily fixed" symbolizing the individual trying to keep his head above the water to avoid drowning. end result...silverstein survive with their heads above the water but just barely.

silverstein is a great band with dark poetic lyrics with lots of emotion but not anything groundbreaking. a good description of their sound would be a mix between labelmates hawthorne heights and the band "grade".

if you're a fan of screamo music then you should definitely check out this cd and also the bands latest release "discovering the waterfront" which sounds similiar to this one but with better vocals and musicianship. standouts on the cd are "giving up", "smashed into pieces", "november", and "red light district". i've had this record now for three years and it seems to find itself in my player from time to time. overall, a good listen. recommended...

4 out of 5 stars Good, but not the best.......2006-06-20

This cd is definently worth a listen, i picked it up after purchasing Discovering the Waterfront. Advisory, dont do that. You can tell in this album that the lead singer was a little new to the screaming thing, while he can switch between the two flawlessly, his scream needed A LOT of work. Luckily he fixed that by the second album. The scream is an acquired taste, so its only bad for the first couple times.

I have the reissued version, with the DVD. I don't know what the artwork is like with the original, but its extremelly well done on this version.

Pick it up if your into this genre.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Screamo/emocore album ever!!!.......2006-05-31

Let me just start off by saying, this album is second to none, this album is soooooooo!!! good, alot better than 'DTWF'. I cant say I am a big fan of emo, but this is my second favorite album ever, just after IKSSE from Coheed and Cambria.

Most of you would like songs like 'giving Up', "Smashed into peices' and 'November', and then buy the album and expect to like the oter songs just as much the first listen, and when you don't, you say the album only has three songs!

Those three arent under my top five songs on the album. This album takes time to like, if you don't like to put effort into liking an album... whel I feel sorry for you, you are missing out on alot.

I live in South-Africa, so the album costs twice as much, and I have the risk of it being stolen before it gets delivered to me. But I took the risk, and I go to sleep, wake up and work on this album.

Every Track on here gets 10/10, it simply rocks.
I dont know why the band went to a more mellow sound in 'DTWF', maybe they cant play all this powerful music live.

Do yourself a favour and buy the album!

5 out of 5 stars one of the best bands out there.......2006-05-30

first of all id like to start by saying that the guy who wrote the last review the so-called "music lover", wouldnt know a good band if it beat him up and stole his wallet! this is a truely amazing album along with its sophomre discovering the waterfront. the guitar work in this album is some what to be desired and the vocals by shane are immense to have tht much power in your voice takes some skill. This album is for any fan of punk, hardcore of even rock! you dont have to be "EMO" to like it, although i would definetly recommend it to fans of hawthorne height, bayside, funeral for a friend etc. Victory is a great record company, always looking to please the fans. So if you get a chance pick up this album you wont be dissapointed!

4 out of 5 stars A Pleasent Surprise.......2006-03-07

It took some time, but eventually I came to love this album. Like a lot of people I was thrown off by the screaming, but eventually I realized that this screaming derived from true pain. There is so much raw, intense, emotion on this album, any true, intelligent music fan could not help but enjoy it. I love every song on this album. It is very mature and original, especially when compared to a lot of bands trying to do the same thing. The only thing I don't like about this album is all the breakdowns. I think it actually takes away from the music but that's just me. It is nothing that can't be overlooked because this is truely a great album.

This boxed set is by far one of the best purchases I have ever made. As a Purcell freak, this hits every button I have. The cast of characters include the inequitable Robert King, New College Choir, Bowman, and a host of other venerable persons. Likewise the attention to period performance of these works makes it an essential addition to the library of any serious anglophile/Musicologist etc. Now if only the Britten Realizations of all Purcell's songs could be recorded alongside the originals! You will Love this set!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars If you liked their other albums..........2006-08-28

..this will be a great buy as well. I heard of Colony 5 in 2002 when I listened to their single: Colony 5. I really enjoyed it, but forgot about them for a few years, until I rediscovered them. They are a great band if you like synthpop. They have changed their style since their first album; Lifeline, but it still has the same great sound that they had back then.

If you like Covenant, you'll like these guys, too.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty decent.......2006-02-08

I got turned on to this by a DJ friend through the song "A New World Arise" which is worth the price of the CD alone. I also enjoy "Plastic World" and "Fusion" (and another song which I forget the name of). The rest of the album tends to sound the same like any other 3rd/4th tier synth-pop band. Overall, it's like a lighter, less filling version of Covenant (my favorite band of the genre). This CD is my "fix" between their albums.

5 out of 5 stars Simply a masterpiece.......2005-11-15

We're almost at the end of 2005 but this will be a year we won't forget when we refer to the swedish band Colony 5. At the beginning of this year we saw the release of "Fixed", the third full album from this band, a record full of energy, good hooks and great futurepop vibe. The band has matured into a blend of the best futurepop sound on the planet with touches of synthpop, great vocals and fine programming. The songs are simply amazing and varies from the melancholic "Fallen Star" to the club friendly super-hit "Plastic World" and the anthem-like "A new world arise".
This masterpiece titled "Fixed" is the best release from this band as for now, but don't be surprised if their next record will be far superior to this as this band goes better and better with time. This album is a must for real synthpop and futurepop fans.

5 out of 5 stars A great album and a Gret re-issue.......2006-02-13

Despite the fact that Victory records almost re-issues everything this re-issue is pretty well done. When I heard the song "Smashed into Pieces" on a victory records sampler along with taking back sunday I was blown away so I went and bought this CD. And I was blown away again. the best song being "Smashed into Pieces" followed by "November" and the second single "Giving Up" along with the two extra songs off of an EP. Iwish that I could find that EP and buy it. The DVD is good too. It contains both "Smashed into Pieces" and "Giving up" music videos and live preformances. Plus interviews with the band. The screaming is done perfectly and the songs are heavy. This CD flat out rocks and is highly recomended on my list. Watch out for a few problems on the DVD with the "Giving Up" music video: I thought the video was not that great because the singer looks like as if he is actually crying at some points. The live preformance has the band playing but the people who made this preformance put the actual song audio instead of a live sound on the live preformance. Otherwise this CD rocks and I highly recomend it.

5 out of 5 stars Great additions to an already amazing album.......2005-01-10

If anyone you know thinks screamo is lame, then you really need to play them this cd. Silverstein's Victory Records debut, "When Broking Is Easily Fixed", is a crunching mix or emo, rock, hardcore and punk into accessible package, and easily one of the better screamo records out there. Ranging from upbeat harmonies, to anguished screams, and everything in between, Silverstein is bridging the gap between hardcore and punk one step at a time. There's something for everyone on here, and any fans of the afformentioned genres won't be dissapointed they spent some cash on this one. If you can find the re-issue with the bonus tracks and DVD, it's highly recommended.

Leading off with my favorite song on the entire album, "Smashed into Pieces", Silverstein shows they can be prominent players in the screamo and hardcore scenes. Shane Todd's vocals are about as good as it gets, although sometimes his scream sounds very strained. That doesn't bring it down though. I also like the amount of balance on this record. It's as equally heavy as it is light and upbeat. Most screamo records now adays like to scream in about three songs, and then have the rest just pop-punk songs (particularly Story of The Year and The Used, although the Used isn't as bad as SOTY). Silverstein doesn't fall into that trend though. They show they're not just screaming because it's in right now. You can go from a song like "Smashed into Pieces" to the upbeat pop-punk of "Wish I Could Forget You" and still know that it's Silverstein. "Giving Up" and "Hear Me Out" make good screamo pieces, and Silverstein goes heavy on songs like "Bleeds No More" and "When Broken Is Easily Fixed", the title track. The original album was only ten songs, which was far too short because you were left wanting so much more. However the re-released version contains two re-recorded tracks from their "Summer's Stellar Gaze" E.P. The songs are a nice addition to the already perfect album, and help you to really get some good extra stuff for buying the cd again.

However the biggest treat of the re-release is the addition of the bonus DVD which has everything from interviews to live songs, and much more. For Silverstein fans it's a great addition and behind the scenes look at the band. The live footage is great and the band definitely gives off that same amazing feeling that they do in person. You come to know a lot about the band that you might not have known through this DVD, like their formation, past members, old cds, etc.. It's definitely an informative piece. Also interviews with members of the band is quite cool. They also include videos for their singles "Giving Up" and "Smashed Into Pieces". Probably the best reason to buy the re-release aside from the bonus tracks.

Get ready to fall in love with your favorite screamo record all over again. I can't wait for Silverstein to release a new cd, hopefully sometime in 2005. These guys definitely have a good future ahead of them if they stay true to their style and themselves. I could see big things happening for them, especially as talented as they are. If you already own the cd, you might not want to shell out another $12 to buy it again, but I think that you should really consider it. The DVD and extra tracks are definitely worth it. If you don't already own "When Broken is Easily Fixed", then hunt this down and buy it. You'll be glad you did.

5 out of 5 stars kicik ass re-issue.......2004-09-30

The re-issue of When Broken Is Easily Fixed is amazing. The dvd tha comes with it has some good live footage, band interviews and videos for giving up and smashed into pieces. The two extra songs, friends in fall river ,and forever and day are typical silverstein songs. The two singles are in no way misleading, the rest of the album is just as good if not better. So if you listen to emocore, screamo, hardcore or whatever this cd is a must have.

5 out of 5 stars Finally a real rock band with real soul........2004-05-05

The DT's new release says it was recorded in a studio - but listening to "Hard Fixed" is like being in a small club, sitting ten feet away from a new band that are pouring their heart and soul into every single song.

I really want to emphasis the word "band" here, because what makes the DT's great is the sum of their parts. With Diana Young-Blanchard vocal skills, it would have been easy to focus only on her singing with the music merely a backdrop.

The DT's are too smart, and too good a band to fall into that trap. One gets the impression there is little ego involved - and that all four members are playing for the love of the music - and everything from vocals to music - seems to be executed in a way that serves the song best rather than showcasing any particular DT's member. Dave Crider, Phil Carter and Patti Bell contribute as much to the overall sound as the lead singer.

"Hard Fixed" contains some of the most passionate music I've heard in years. However, the band knows when to pull back. Their songs are intense, but never over done. They could have become a bombastic hard rock band with a singer trying to be Janis Joplin. Instead there is a strong sense of a group that uses their rock and soul inspirations to create their own unique vision - rather than trying to mimic what has been done in the past.

The song writing is on par with musical talent. The best thing about the tunes on "Hard Fixed" is the lack of filler. This cd is a compilation of good songs that make for a total album - rather than so many releases today that contain a few standout tracks and little else. The two covers suit the band - but I'd rather hear them live - and go for two more originals on this cd - the DT's songwriting is that good.

The main reason I wrote this review is not to sell more copies of "Hard Fixed" on Amazon. My hope this that some major reviewer will stumble across my words and end up giving the DT's the national exposure they deserve. It is so rare these days to hear a band that sounds so sincere and honest. What a shame it would be if the fate of this group was to stay under the radar while pre-packaged, mindless pop rules the charts.

With Diana Young-Blanchard's vocal skills it would have been easy to focus only on her singing with the music merely a backdrop.

5 out of 5 stars Pure Steinway.............2003-08-03

If you are an admirer of Michael Jones (Narada Music) or George Winston you will not be disapointed. This 2003 release finds Grant going to the basics and presenting his music via his Steinway Piano. No trademark vocals, no drums, no synths just pure Piano. A great release and a must have for any Tom Grant fan. I would say this was a great departure and break from your usual Tom Grant CD. Though with the Midas touch, it seems anything Tom toches turns to gold.

I don't have this album, because if it'n not unavailable it's dead expensive... I borrowed it form the library and fell in love... Listen to "Are you happy now?" and you'll know. It's simple, it's underexaggerated, underplayed, elegant, beautiful, sad and melancholic (I'm not strong with defining the genre, but I guess it's indie...??!) It's different and confers you, not making you more happy, but reminding you that you're not alone. I'll buy it soo... I will!

    4 out of 5 stars Trance Fixed.......2005-07-26

This cd was my first trance album that I bought at Best Buy. The CD is great for background music and I really enjoyed the CD. My favorite tracks are 2001 and Feel the Beat. This cd is a good mix but it does lack that high intensity that you want to hear with trance music. If you want a cool cd to add to your collection then this is one of them.

4 out of 5 stars This Album is Good but Not as Good as Trance Impulse.......2000-11-04

Trance fixed may have some good beats, but lacks on good style. The album doesnt have as much pizzazz(energy) as trance impulse but has a good selection of songs. If u want a good trance album i recommend u get your hands on ICU: Generation Trance 20000 and or Trance Allstars. Two of the best trance labums i own.
