Album Description
Got you on my mind is the collaboration between chanteuse Madeleine Peyroux and harmonica virtuoso/ guitarist William Galison, with whom she has toured extensively in recent years. On Ms. Peyroux's first recording since Deamland, Madeleine and William cover a wide variety of tunes, from a Josephine Baker classic through tunes made famous by Willy Dixon, Stevie Wonder and John Lennon, as well as three delightful original compositions. The accompanying musicians are stars in their own right, including Bob Dylan's bassist Tony Garnier and Saturday Night Live's drummer Shawn Pelton, and there is a delightful cameo by none other than Carly Simon. To many of Madeleine's fans, Got You On My Mind represents her exquisite singing at its most natural and unconstrained -- in an informal, musical context close to her roots and to her heart. What comes across most strongly from this CD however, is the amazing musical chemistry between these two extraordinary artists.
Customer Reviews:
Great CD.......2007-05-07
I love Madeleine Peyroux and now have all her CD's. Her voice blends perfectly with William Galison's playing. I highly recommend this selection.
Melodious Madeliene, Magnificent!.......2007-03-26
I love her relaxed phrasing and the tone and easy flow of her vocals
Wonderful Cd.......2007-03-13
This is a wonderful cd and a nice addition to my collection. I recommend it highly.
fun stuff.......2007-03-09
These musicians clearly are in synch with each other on this very good album. For fans of Madeleine, this is an example of her singing in a very relaxed style. Not quite as intense as her more mature work, yet beautiful nonetheless in a timeless manner that her voice communicates so easily. All in all, sweet harmony.
Addicting.......2007-01-03
I found that I had to play the CD over and over in the car. Haven't done that with a new CD in a long time. Made traffic seem to disappear because I just didn't care how long I was in the car.

Amazon.com essential recording
On this 1980 tour de force, Prince produced the template for most of his '80s albums: a mixture of lust and longing, synth pop combined with gut bucket rock and roll. Although this was his third CD, Dirty Mind was the one that truly established "When You Were Mine," which still ranks as one of his best songs, ever. The gender- and race-bending Dirty Mind was nasty and freaky--and you could dance to it. Still can. --Amy Linden

Dirty Mind.......2007-07-09
Just classic Prince. Nothing more needs to be said. Must have for anyone claiming to be a Prince fan.
Turning Point of a genius..........2007-06-06
The title track say's it all. Even though it was his third album...this was like his first album... the definitive album in PRN's career..."For you" and "Prince"(ALBUMS 1 & 2) were filled with a more "POP" flavor but "Dirty Mind" was Prince on stage in a long trench coat, bikini briefs, and a lot of what made Prince ~ Prince...SEXUALITY. Track 2 "When You Were Mine" is still one of my fav's from him and track 4 "Gotta Broken Heart" was a sign of things to come...THE ART OF THE FALSETTO BALLAD...Prince is as complete of an artist as we"ll ever see! I particualrly love the way the album makes you fell as if you're in the studio with him by mixing the songs together like a stage show. Track 5 "Uptown" was his anthum by saying "free your sexual mind, believe in god, and ignore color lines! This is the album that got everybody to ask..."is he straight or gay, is he a man or woman, is he really on stage doing and wearing that???" The answer thank GOD to all the above was YESS! Well before it's time with other anthums like "Head" talking about...well...Head(I've always felt like "Let's Pretend We're Married" was like a part 2 of this song) and "Sister" walks the edge more than a little( He is actually talking about a foster/step sister type)..."Party Up" is a perfect way to end this album. With screaming Synths' and crazy rock guitar and his signature gift from god of a voice, this is the definitive recording from Prince. It was the one that screamed to us saying..."BEWARE ...i've got talent and indviduality and i'm not afraid to use them!"
Prince...Dirty Mind..........2007-02-15
This was another of the re-mastered Prince albums that I bought for ($7US). The signature song on this disc: Head! Overall though, it was my least favorite albums due to his subject matter. Let's be frank, he left nothing out on this one, and set a standard for all others to follow. Three stars!!
A Classic Album.......2006-09-03
Prince's 1980 album DIRTY MIND is one of his best albums from his decades long career. The album features a more stripped back production, but the music is still pure soul/funk. There are some really memorable, classic Prince jams here such as "When You Were Mine", "Head", "Uptown" and the title track. It's a brisk album at 8 songs, but all are integral to this album. Prince produced, arranged and composed the whole album. He found success starting with this cd, his third. Deservingly so, this is a classic album that may be his best album.
Raw.......2006-04-21
"Dirty Mind" shows how, even this early in his career, Prince was a genius when it came to straddling the line between the underground and the mainstream. On the cover Prince, clad in bikini underwear, trench coat and bandana, looks like he might have just left an S&M bar. But most of the songs on the album aren't nearly as outrageous as you'd expect from the cover. Musically, the album is a fairly straightforward blend of R&B, disco and synth-pop. Although the demo quality of the tracks does gives it a raw, unpolished edge. Maybe in 1980 the lyrics to tracks like "Do It All Night" and "Dirty Mind" were shocking, but they seem downright tame today. Lyrically, only the incestuous "Sister" still has the power to raise eyebrows. Overall, I'd say "Dirty Mind" is an interesting album that shows the early stages of Prince's musical experimentation and evolution.

GREAT CD!.......2007-05-30
This is a really great CD by Jedi Mind Tricks, it's one of their best! I highly recommend "Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell" for anyone who needs to pickup some new rap music for their collection.
Strong And Vicious (Rating: 9 out of 10- -4.5 stars).......2007-05-11
Jedi Mind Tricks, has been a group that I really haven't been following too much. I've only heard two of their albums: "Visions Of Ghandi" & "The Psycho-Social CD", and I have been very impressed with the albums that the group has made.
I didn't think to buy this album, until about a couple of months ago. Listening to Vinnie Paz' rhymes, he seems to sound more stronger and lyrical than ever. Listening to "Suicide", he sounds more stronger than ever. I actually like the samples that DJ Kwestion placed into the hooks for this song as well as "Put The In The Grave". I haven't heard anything too much like this in a while, especially this year. "Uncommon Valor: A Vietnam Story" features a sick verse from R.A. The Rugged Man, who actually outshines Vinnie Paz. Another touching song is the track is the track "Shadow Business" when Vinnie Paz talks about how life is from China and kids who work hard to support thier families. "Outlive The War" feauting Sean Price and Block Mc Cloud.
I'm not sure about any of the other albums that are out, but the CD that I have has three bonus tracks. One of the tracks that I liked was "Pretty Little Whores" with Outerspace. I also have a DVD with the video of "Heavy Metal Kings" (dope Mobb Deep sample), as well as the making of the music video.
As for any negatives, I quickly noticed the way that Vinnie Paz rhymes. It's like at the end of almost every bar, he quickly says something very short that rhymes with the last thing he said (if you heard the album, you would know exactly what I'm talking about.) That carries throughout the album. Also I wasn't feeling the Terror Remix to "Heavy Metal Kings".
Overall this album is excellent and one of the best of 2006. In fact Babygrande Records has been releasing excellent material thoughout the year (5% Album, Hi-Teknology 2: The Chip, etc.). This is one of the albums that many would enjoy the insensity of Vinnie Paz' lyrics, backed by Stupe The Enemy's production. I recommend that you check this out. Peace.

It's not a fluk, It's been tried, they are the truth.......2007-05-04
If you have been a fan of jedi mind tricks for a while, and i mean you have their CDs, not just listen to some of their songs. Then you can agree with me that with ever release comes something different. That is what makes them so great, their ability to stay fresh, because you don't know what is coming next. JMT was one hip hop group that i was fully into, because that was when i started actually listening to hip hop and looking for CDs not just hearing songs on the radio. I bought everything they put out, so it is hard for me to say that something of theirs is wack and only give them a 3 star rating, but i swear this album is nasty. Stoupe comes so correct with the production although some songs sound similar, it doesn't matter. He is like a mix of premier and havoc, because he makes those great samples and has songs you can feel in your bones. "Heavy Metal Kings" is such a nasty song, the beat comes in so hard and just hypes you up for a fight. But one of my favorite songs is "Uncommon Valor"(A Vietnam Story) the story that Paz and R.A. the rugged man unfold is a horrific tail of two different prospectives on the Vietnam War, but it just has that erie feeling to it like as if you are watching Marten Sheen covered with mud popping out of the water in Apocalypse Now. Fans questioned JMT after their release of Visions of Ghandi, many thought that they were just a fluk but now they have proven that they are a very stable, and influential rap group that knows their history of hip hop and can still play in the world of today.
The Break Down 1-10 rating
1.Intro
2."Put Em In The Grave"- 9 (this beat is great and Vinnie is on point)
3."Suicide"- 6 (beat is good, but the hook is a little bit of a stretch)
4."Uncommon Valor"- 10 (Classic)
5."A Blood Red Path"- 7 (Paz goes straight with no hook)
6."When All Lights Dies"- 8 (Very good song that you listen and relax to)
7."Serenity In A Murder"- 9.5 (this songs is bangin, it is like d'evils)
8.Pariah Demise interlude
9."Heavy Metal Kings"- 10 (Classic)
10."Shadow Business"- 8 (Great Story about Slave Labor)
11.Triumph And Agony interlude (beat is nasty, lyrics to it would be nice)
12."Razorblade Salvation"- 10 (Classic, deep song)
13."Outlive The War"- 9.5 (Sean Price makes this song great)
14."Gutta Music"- 9 (Such a great beat, with lyrics to match)
15.Temples Of Ice interlude
16."Black Winter Day"-7 (Another deep Song to end a great album)
The Art Of Consistency {4.5 Stars}.......2006-12-07
On their fifth release Vinnie and Stoupe craft what I believe to be their best effort yet. Say what you will about Vinnie's lyrics, but he brings it to your chest every time he spits. I personally don't find his lyrics offensive, but I think it's safe to say that JMT's stuff isn't for the easily offended. As far as the CD itself, Stoupe brings the heat on the boards. He's been dope and consistant from day one, so all you fans kow what to expect. Though the album is laced with banger after banger (I'd say 16 of 19 joints are tight), I think the consensus on "Uncommon Valor" being the best track on the entire album is pretty much spot on. The mentality of Vietnam soldiers. Brilliant. Vinnie provides one side of the equation (the scared soldier that wants to just do his job and leave) while R.A. is the booze drinking, vietnamese women screwin' (his words, not mine), glory seeking, violence loving soldier looking to be a hero. It's original and captivating in it's delivery. Hip Hop could definitely use more of that.
The DVD contains the video for "Heavy Metal Kings" which features Ill Bill and has a cameo by R.A. The Rugged Man. It also contains behind the scenes footage (Vinnie signing records, R.A. commentary, the making of the video, etc...).
You know, there isn't much wrong with this album. I found the three "bonus" tracks to be so-so (there are no wack tracks though), but what bores me the quickest is Vinnie P's cadence -- it never changes. Some will argue that if you've been down with JMT for a while then you should be used to that, and they're probably right, but I'm beginning to tire of the predictability of his cadence. No worries though, the content of his lyrics make up for it.
Servants In Heaven, Kings In Hell is one of the top ten '06 rap releases. Vinnie Paz and Stoupe have a consistant formula. No peaks and valleys, just steady, dependable production. With that being said, I think this is probably the first peak, because this is their best album in my humble opinion. I recommend adding this one to collection.
Standout Tracks: Heavy Metal Kings feat. Ill Bill, Shadow Business, Put 'Em In The Grave, Uncommon Valor feat. R.A. The Rugged Man (My Favorite), When All Light Dies, Black Winter Day, Razorblade Salvation, Outlive The War feat. Sean Price & Block McCloud, and Suicide

Death, Honor, Etc.......2007-03-13
Very strong (quality-wise AND level of intensity)
Ideologically a little repetitive, perhaps, but perhaps not, perhaps it only seems that way because of the intensity of the material presented through JMT releases. Variety of influences muscially-speaking, in terms of hooks, melodies, instrumentation, samples... Some tracks hit and miss, in terms of production - never poor in quality, but some less interesting sonically - dense but a little dead noise...
If you don't like the aggressive vocal stylings of previous/similar works, nothing to change your mind, but there are time I find very appropriate.
First track is standout. Legacy of Blood is better (more interesting?).
One of the best for 2006.......2007-01-03
No doubt one of the best hip hop albums I listened to in 2006. Majority if not all of the album is battle raps, wid some tight metaphors. From the time I got it until now it's been in my CD changer and I don't intend to take it out anytime soon. Every single beat on this album is hot, if you doubt me check out 'Gorillaz'. I played it over five times when I first heard it. In my opinion the emcee that really stands out on this CD would definitely have to be Celph Titled but don't get me wrong ES comes real hard to, as well as Apathy. Vinnie Paz comes with his classic battle style, brilliant as usual but he didn't catch me as much as the others. Another great song is 'Into The Arms of Angels'. I love the way they use samples, and the types of samples they use are nothing like the ones you'd hear 9th Wonder using. These samples make the beats sound like a twist between alternative and rap, a real nice sound. This album is definitely worth checking out, add it to your collection and elevate ya mind.
army of flows.......2006-10-10
this crew album is dope man, this clik got talented mc's. such as vinnie p, kamachi ,celph, apathy and more ..... they serve sharp flow over dope beats , for real.king size and esoteric need to improve their rap skills, cause they srewed up lil bit in some tracks. peace out , everybody body need to get this lp is really dope.
The Army is coming (3.5 Stars).......2006-07-10
There is something about a Posse album. I think the idea has perhaps not been exploited enough. I remember the fisrt time hearing 36 Chambers. Before I even knew the names of Clan members. It was like an aural assault with so many different styles and personalities fighting for the mic.
In many ways this album reminds me of that. Light on concepts and heavy on battle raps, its like each artist knows they only have twelve bars to impress and they are determined to make the biggest impact before they pass on the MIC. "Battle Cry is the finest example of this as the dozen or so MC's try to outdo each other for 6 minutes.
The beats on the album provide the perfect backdrop for this lyrical assault. All the MC's represent but there are a few standouts; particularly Celph Titled who commands attention on the MIC with his voice & obliterates the MIC with his off the wall metaphors and breathtaking delivery. Chief Kamachi, Reef & Apathy are also on form here.
admittedly, having this many MC's on the album is its strength and also its biggest weakness. Some will enjoy it (like myself) while others will be turned off by the fact its all battle raps.
Half the tracks get a five, the other get a 2 or 3........2006-06-13
This album has some amazing tracks and some terrible tracks, but overall it's another solid release for Baby Grande. Some of these tracks are bangin, while others seem out of place or just plain weak. The top MC's on this disc are Planetary, Reef the Lost Cause, Celph Titled, and Apathy. The worst is Esoteric. I know he has a nice following, and his lyrics are dope, but his flow is just awful. The production is tight on most tracks, but lacking on a few. Overall it's a nice disc, and should be purchased by all hardcore fans. Some of these tracks are really sick, and will definitely lead to some head noddin.
Top Tracks (In my opinion)
1. Henery the Eigth (One of the best beats ever, sick lyrics)
2. Battle Cry (Hardbeat, AOTP's attempt to remake WU-Tangs "Triumph")
3. Tear it Down (this is a banger)
4. Feast of the Wolves
5. All Shall Perish
Worst Tracks
1. Wrath of Gods
2. Pull the Pins Out

WOW Finally some great Patti Page mid 50s singles on CD!!!!.......2007-05-15
I too have long waited for this collection. In the summer of 1955 PIDDILY PATTER PATTER was probably my favorite song on the radio. It climbed to number 25 on the Cashbox Top 50.....and many other of Patti's forgotten hits (a number of which did not make the Billboard charts which numbered only 20 to 30 positions) but charted on Cashbox are here including the title tune KEEP ME IN MIND (number 26), NEAR TO YOU and I LOVE TO DANCE WITH YOU (both top 50 bestsellers) as well as great flip sides like SEARCH MY HEART, EVERY TIME I FEEL THE SPIRIT and THE VOICE INSIDE.
One of Patti's best ballads ever is also included here: TOO YOUNG TO GO STEADY.
The last 4 tracks are great LP only tracks which show that Patti was not only a great singles seller but a marvelous interpreter of the GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK.
Get it!!!!!
Patti fans now await the lost late 50s/early 60s Mercury singles on CD like THE WALLS HAVE EARS, TRUST IN ME, LITTLE DONKEY, GOODBYE CHARLIE, YOU'LL ANSWER TO ME.
GREAT STUFF NOT PREVIOUSLY RELEASED ON CD.......2007-05-07
Finally, some GREAT material by the SINGING RAGE Miss Patti Page, never released on CD before. This item is a MUST for any Patti Page collector. Contains 30 songs, top quality reproduction.

I've been waiting so long for this!.......2007-04-17
Those of you who have been reading my music reviews know that Patti Page is one of my favorite vocalists. But of my three top favorites, she is the one least represented in my personal CD collection. Not because I don't love her voice, but because the people who create CDs have not seen fit to put a lot of her recordings on CD. The biggest hits, yes, but not much more. This CD helps remedy that situation.
This CD contains some of Patti Page's second-tier hits, some of the nicer tracks from her LP albums, and a few obscure singles. For some reason, they have chosen to include "Allegheny Moon," which is one of the big hits and is quite available, but by and large, this is an attempt to present some of the harder-to-find Patti Page recordings. And in fact one of the tracks, "I Can't Tell a Waltz from a Tango," is one of her minor hits that I've been trying to get into my collection for over a year. Most of the others are equally rare.
Two of the songs, "Let Me Go, Lover!" and "Born to Be with You," are songs that were big hits for other artists; in fact, the Patti Page version of "Born to Be with You" was never issued as a single in the United States, because the Chordettes had such a big hit with the song that Mercury didn't want to try to compete. (Patti Page, as she often did, recorded multiple tracks of this song, so she was her own vocal group! As a result, this version and the Chordettes' sound more alike than one might think.) Some of the songs that the liner notes say were not hits at all are songs I remember, while I don't remember some that charted according to the liner notes, so I think they must be using different charts than the DJ I listened to, but this does not detract from the quality of this CD.
All those who like `50s pop music, or Patti Page in particular, need to get this CD.

Not quite the best.......2007-03-10
While this cd contains music from both early and late periods of Fred's career, there are a few omissions and few rarely heard songs.
Even better than "Many sides".......2006-01-16
I to say I disagree with the other reviewer. this CD is the best mix you can get without buying the three best Fred Neil albums ("Tear down the Walls", "Bleeker and Macdougal", and "Fred Neil". Yes I left off "Sessions". It had some good songs but all in all wasn't one of his best. My problem with the 2 cd set "Many Sides of Fred Neil" is that is almost ignored Bleeker and Macdougal and was repetitive with several songs. It also didn't have any from Tear Down the Walls with Vince Martin, and a few of those are wonderful. So if you aren't willing to get all the individual cds, I think this one is the best.
Nobody's talkin'.......2005-09-29
Odd song selections on this "best of". The much better choice is "Many Sides". Some major songs are missing here and some minor ones are included. By no means an awful CD but one can do better for a cross section of songs by one of the best of his era.

Excellent Combo for an Aging Ageless Wonder.......2006-09-02
Because of the long section in Chronicles on Dylan's perspective on Oh, Mercy, I wanted to check it out. I had Time Out of Mind on cassette from when it first came out, and I had Love and Theft on CD--but the under $20 price for all three made me get this set, with the idea that I would give my second wrapped copy of Love and Theft to someone as a present. (Each of the 3 CD's is wrapped as new--in the light cardboard box which has no additional extras at all.)
Anyway, Oh, Mercy is really excellent. Each song entices your involvement and interest. I am glad to finally catch up with it.
Time Out of Mind is a genius work. From my cassette version of 10 years ago, I knew it was an older guy singing about aging, the perspective from the mature end of relationships, and sounding like a person who had seen and experienced much. Personally, I think it is his best overall work since Blood on the Tracks.
Love and Theft is another story. The first two CD's would easily get 5 stars, but this one seems too simple minded. It is not lighthearted sounding with purity (as I think of Nashville Skyline) but rather just somewhat superficial. I have played it a number of times, and I keep hoping that I missed something-because when it came out, the critics were saying how wonderful and special it was, but I think it is just ok. It is way above something like Selfportrait or Dylan, but it would not make the upper echelon of Bob Dylan albums.
Overall, the package of the 3 is a great deal, and well worth the price.

The New Dylan..........2006-01-05
That would've been a good name for this set.
This is a coupling of albums that really makes sense. If you're a Dylan fan from days of yore, this would be a good way to bring yourself up to speed. None of these albums ever really qualified as a comeback in the literal sense; Dylan wrote plenty of good songs in the 80's, he just scattered them across a few too many albums. I guess 1997's _Time Out of Mind_ comes closest; it had been been six years since his last all-new record (the unfortunate post-Wilbury hangover known as _Under the Red Sky_, thankfully omitted from this set). But even then, he'd been burning it up onstage for two years prior, and had made two offbeat but charming albums of accoustic folk/blues interpretations. Really what sets the three records here apart is that they forced even the sometimes inattentive general public to sit up and take notice. That tells you something about how good they are.
The one thing that would have improved this set would be if they'd found a way to include the three essential non-album tracks that came out during this time period ("Series of Dreams", a spare part from _Oh Mercy_, "Dignity", from _Greatest Hits Vol. 3_, and "Things Have Changed" from the _Wonder Boys_ soundtrack).
The remastered version of _Oh Mercy_, included here, is a nice sonic upgrade from the old version.
Three Stellar Records in One Collection.......2005-10-30
Here are three records from late in Dylan's body of work, the three best ones of his latter period, if Dylan can be said to have periods. Many break his career up into bits and pieces. You know the folk and protest period, the folk rock period and so on and so on, while others, myself included, just appreciate his albums each and every one.
Oh Mercy - Eerie Haunting Sound You Can't Get Out of Your Mind
Many people thought this album was a comeback for Dylan, many others, myself included, never thought he went away. However, I must admit Daniel Lanois' production sort of brings one back to the Dylan of old, you know, before he signed on the girl backup singers. Their is an artistic sound to this record reminiscent of a smoothed out Blonde on Blonde sound. So I can see how one would think they were getting the Dylan of the Sixties back again.
I've heard it said that this record has not stood the test of time as say, Highway 61 has, but I'd have to disagree. I play this record often, actually more than Highway 61, so I guess by my lights, the record still has pretty strong legs. The imagery in "Man With a Long Black Coat" is as powerful as anything Dylan has done. "Shooting Star" is every bit as good a song as "She Belongs to Me" for example and "Political World" is just as meaningful now as when Ronald Reagan was President, some, myself included, would say more so. And who hasn't suffered from the "Disease of Conceit" a song that could be about us all.
It is hard, out of such a body of work to pick out an album you like best, actually impossible, but for me this one is right up there near the top.
Time Out of Mind - Eerie, Haunting, Dark and Searing
When TOOM (Time Out Of Mind) came out it had been seven years since Dylan had done an album of original songs. Was TOOM worth the wait? I'd say so. For me this record harkens all the way back to "Blood on the Tracks" with Dylan delivering searing songs full of hurt, heartbreak and emotion. This album is bittersweat and dark. This album is great. This album stands near the top of a superb body of work.
And yet again, when this record came out it was hearlded as a comeback for Dylan. I swear this man has had more comebacks than Carter's got pills. Mr. Dylan never left. He has always been here, always making music, just sometimes some of his records don't etch their way into your soul the way others do. Some of his records are merely outstanding, some others, like this one, blaze like a firey comet streaking across the desert sky, burning their way into your conscious.
I suppose every five years or so Dylan has to put out a record like this just to remind us all what a real poet is all about.
Love and Theft - Kind of a Playful, Jazzy, Crooning and Rocking Bob Dylan
Still again, after a long hiatus of no albums with original tunes, many people hailed "Time Out of Mind" as still another comeback for Dylan with this record, delivered four years later in 2001, building upon said comeback. Only this time he isn't as eerie, haunting and dark as he was on "Time". In fact at times it seems Mr. Dylan has turned downright playful with his music. We have Dylan kind of crooning on some of the songs in this set of very good rock and roll songs, many of which have kind of a jazzy inflection to them.
In my opinion Dylan's gravely voice works well with this set and the songs blend into each other making a whole that is much better than the sum of its parts. I play this record quite a bit, but then I play most of his good records quite a bit. Some have said, my Gal Sara, for instance that perhaps I play Mr. Dylan's music a bit too much. Thank goodness I've got an iPod, so that when I'm up alone at night working on the computer or trying to hammer out words on paper with pen or pencil, I can listen to this record as loud as I want. My hearing may be going though, but so what, it's worth it.

He's Older Now, but as Good, Maybe Better than Ever.......2005-10-30
He was good when he was a kid, he was good when he was in his fourties and his fifties. He's old now, but he's better than ever. Read on:
"Oh Mercy" is easily one of my favorite Dylan albums, and if it's not in the top five, it's certainly in the top ten. A lot of people, who had written off Mr. D's relevance, were taken aback when this record came out. There was a lot of, "Dylan's back." or "I knew he had it in him." kind of comments going around after folks gave this record a listen too. Folks in the biz, those in the know, started calling "Oh Mercy" Dylan's comeback record. But then there were those who had been faithful fans, listening and appreciating his music all along. For them, Dylan had never really gone anywhere to come back from. That said, this record does harkens back to those Dylan albums of yesteryear, with those story songs that are so wonderful. This is most certainly a five star album and one you absolutely must own.
"Time Out of Mind" is considered a comeback album by many. These people think that just because Bob Dylan put out a couple Christian Records, or A couple records with a gang of Gospel singers, or a couple records of old blues and public domain songs, that he'd lost it, forgotten how to do rock and roll, forgotten how to write. So when these so called comeback albums come out, they raise their hands, look to the heavens and shout out "Praise the Lord, Dylan's back." How silly, Mr. D's always been around and God willing will still be giving us these comeback records every three years or so thirty years from now. That said, "Time Out of Mind," has a dark feel to it. It pulls you in with a combination of Dylan's mournful voice and mournful lyrics. It's different than anything he's done before.
I've heard it said that Bob Dylan said of "Love & Theft" that it's like "a greatest hits without the hits." Well, when you listen to this masterpiece, that's exactly the kind of feel you get for this album. It's like each of the songs is an old friend, like we've heard them all before. How did Dylan do that? Maybe it's because he recorded "Love and Theft" with his touring band and they were all so used to playing with each other. It shows. In a way this album reminds me of "Blood on the Tracks" the album that I consider Mr. Ds best. Every song on "The Tracks" belongs there, an integral part of the whole. Sure every song stands alone, but together they make a masterpiece. That's the way it is with "Love and Theft." I don't know if this is the best album Mr. D has ever done, cuz I still listen "The Tracks," all the time, but if it's not the best, it's certainly number two. And who knows, after listening to it for another year or so, I may reevaluate that, but for now all I have to say is this CD is so good it'll make you cry.

You should be rushin' to buy this!.......2006-11-07
This CD looks like basically a compilation of "Interstellar Stomp" and "Czar Wars". I own both of those and I can say that this is by far and away the best surf rock I've ever heard. This stuff is as far beyond bands like The Ventures as are the heavens above the Earth.
I've found through listening to a good amount of surf instrumental rock that band either master the energy or the melody, but not both. That is, they are either a high-energy frenzy of notes (think Man or Astro Man), or they craft melodies and play them deliberately (The Ventures), but the Space Cossacks have merged out-of-this-world energy with melodies. There is a variation of tempo and mood as one listens to a Space Cossacks album that I've just never heard from any other surf rock band.
No throwaway stuff on Space Cossacks CD's. Each track is a star with a unique beauty and energy of it's own in a greater universe of music.
Simply Awesome.......2006-08-14
If you like bands like Los Straitjackets and the Ventures, you'll love the Space Cossacks. They're a great instrumental band.

Album Description
How come you've never heard of this record by a band that's sold millions? And why did it only sell 25,000 copies when it came out on dot.com startup Musicblitz.com in 2000?
Well, it wasn't because the record isn't great. 'Freaked Out And Small' got rave reviews in CMJ, Alternative Press and All Music Guide, among others.
Presidents guitarist Dave Dederer offers a full explanation: "In 2000, the Presidents didn't even exist. We'd been split up for almost three years. A family friend of mine was doing A&R at this startup, and he offered us some dough up front to go in and cut a record for a download-only release. We told him we weren't a band, we weren't reuniting, we weren't going to play any shows, we weren't doing any promo and we'd make whatever the hell record we wanted to make. By the time we were making the record, Musicblitz realized that the web thing wasn't going to work. They decided overnight to become a brick-and-mortar record company, something they knew nothing about. And then they went bankrupt just a couple of months after the record came out. Personally, I'm blown away that it sold as many records as it did. And I'm proud of the record - it's probably my favorite thing we've recorded."
The Presidents are, of course, reunited. They've been touring the U.S. since early 2003 and released a new album, 'Love Everybody,' in August 2004. All three of the Presidents' NAIL releases are on the band's own PUSA Music label.
Customer Reviews:
Ok, what are the other guys here smoking?.......2007-05-04
I felt compelled to write a quick review after reading 3 5-star reviews. This album does not deserve 5 stars, it's by far the worst effort from PotUSA, and this coming from someone who owns every album, has seen them live 3 times, and pretty much grew up on them as my favorite band for at least 8 years. This album might be worth owning if you want to claim you have every Presidents album, as it's relatively unknown, but there was only 1 track that actually stood out for me: the last one, which I've seen used on MTV during a skating show. A few others might make you smile, but mostly this album shows how uninspired the Presidents were during this time period. Thank god they came out with Love Everybody, which isn't exactly an incredible album (the entire middle of the album is instantly forgettable, but with songs like Monkey River and Jennifer's Jacket it saves itself). 5 stars? Bah. I'm being generous when I give it 2.
The Presidents at their BEST!.......2006-03-04
I own three PUSA albums already (I, II, and Pure Frosting). After purchasing this fourth, I have to admit that the Presidents get better with each album. I loved their more well-known hits from their early CD's, but "Freaked out and Small" has got some of their best songs yet.
Lots of goofy content here, some that I'm probably wise not trying to figure out. But some rocking songs like "Tiny Explosions," "Nuthin but love," "Last Girl on Earth," and "Jupiter." Also some neat slower songs in the mix. The demos are interesting - many are the same tune but with some major differences - instrumentation, tempo, etc.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for any Presidents fan (and anybody who loves fun, toe-tapping music).
pure Presidents.......2005-07-11
This disk takes the Presidents to the extreme! Everything that make the Presidents the Presidents (the quirky lyrics, the simple and energetic beat, the blasting wall of sound, and most of all the whimsy) is exagerated as much as possible. Who else could write an ode to the Death Star which includes the phrase "so good they built it twice"?
You may think you have the disk on repeat, because the first half is the finished songs, and the second half is most of the same songs over again, in demo versions. This may be a little much -- the polished versions are all better than the demo versions. There's a reason why demos don't usually get released.
However, even if they hadn't included the demos this disk would be well worth buying. It's almost impossible not to dance to. It's also better than the recent comeback album. This was the Presidents at their peak -- at least, at their peak in the first go-around.
1 of 25k... .......2004-11-25
So yes, i was one of the few people who actually bought that cd off of musicblitz.com. (which i think is now a realestate page.) Anyhow, if you have heard any of the Presidents past albums, you'll love this one. This one is a bit more fun sounding as chris ballew adds more of his keyboarding-ness... If you never heard of PUSA, they are a great rock band who play fun songs. Its not punk, not hard rock, not grunge, its just fun to listen to. Peppy little songs about goofy little things that will just make you smile. Great tracks that will surely get stuck in your head. I'm glad to see that they are re-releasing it again to a(hopefully) bigger audience.
