brings back all sorts of things for me.......2005-02-16
i was going through an old box of photographs while looking for some to put in my graduation slideshow. then i went through my mother's desk looking for more and i find 'down the do re mi' and 'teaching peace' on a tape. it's probably been a decade since i last listened to this tape. i started crying listening to the grandfather's clock song, and even the silly songs brought back great memories. i remembered the lyrics to all the songs once they started playing again, which i suppose isn't too surprising because i probably drove my parent's crazy when i'd listen to this over and over for years. this is the music that all kids should have a chance to listen to and sing along with, not the worthless pop crap that is the only thing most of them are exposed to now.
If you see him perform, you will buy all his albums!.......2004-05-04
Although I used "Teaching Peace" in my preschool classroom, it wasn't until I saw/heard Red Grammer perform at a teacher's convention that I became a fan. Or should I say, groupie? He not only performs, he entertains. And better still - he offers a variety of ways to use his music with groups of children. His voice is wonderful (John Denver-ish, which is meant as a great compliment!)and many songs have just the right amount of silly to keep children of all ages entertained. My class loves the scat-like ending of Down the Do-Re-Mi that they can sing along to as much as they love acting out Down By the Sea. There are poetically beautiful songs (Land of the Silver Birch),camp classics (Rattlin'Bog), and motivational songs (Two hands, four hands). Wonderful.
Have all his Cd's...!!!!.......2004-03-27

Catchy, fun, singable tunes.......2003-01-22
My daughter's eyes (she's 4 months) light up as the first few notes of this CD start. They are great and catchy songs that are easy to sing and follow, with fun stories. One of our favorites!
songs you can't stop singing.......2001-05-30
For years I've been hearing about Red Grammar, but only recently have I listened to his songs. My sister-in-law introduced my three-year-old son to his music, and it was an instant hit. Down the Do Re Mi is terrific fun. We love every song. My son's favorite is "The Rattlin' Bog." Mine is "Down By the Sea." Every song is catchy and fun to sing along with. Each one captures the fun of being a child. We can't stop singing these songs, or listening.

Give it a rest ...........2005-06-14
Even though I'm an aging rock n roller, I still find a lot of new Christian groups worth a listen, and will support their efforts by keeping my teenage kids tuned in. Of course, we could always promote the garbage that spews out of the secular world ... after all, it is very original and expressive, but I'll pass on the message of the music, thank you.
When a group like Overflow emerges, they deserve a chance. These guys relate God's love to kids (and old rock n rollers) with simple but important messages, and have a great sound to carry it along. Crank it up and you'll see.
I bought this CD because I take it at face value...it's a good listen. And yep, I'm a Third Day kind of guy so I may be biased. And nope, I'm not being paid by Overflow to promote. I heard some of their music on Christian radio, liked what I heard, my kids liked it, so we bought it. That's how it works folks.
More Worship Than Praise.......2005-05-03
Like my title suggests, this CD has a few more worship-style songs than praise hooks, but a very worthy listen regardless! I think "Cry On My Shoulder" should be required listening by anyone that has ever been letdown or disappointed by anything. A great song that really puts this young band on the Christian music map!!
Good Start.......2005-02-17
This is a good Christian pop rock album. The strength here is the sincerity of the music and a vocalist who can carry this group a long way. Think Goo Goo Dolls with a Christian message and you'll be in the Overflow ballpark. At three stars this is an enjoyable album and gives the band room to grow on.
Short, Simple, and Enjoyable.......2004-10-31
Overflow's "A Better Place" isn't the most original music you will ever hear. This release probably isn't going to blow you away, but its still pretty decent. The music and lyrics focus on God, but both are simple and to the point, and most of the songs are pretty short. Their style is your standard rock sound, for the most part above average.
Who says everything has to be ground breaking and complex to be enjoyable? There are still kool guitar riffs, pretty piano parts, and strings here and there which are nice. I personally would have liked to of heard a little more of that stuff, especially the piano. Injecting more of the piano player would have given them a more original sound. The sound of a singer's voice is very important to me, and Overflow's vocalist is enjoyable.
The highlights of the cd are Come Home, Cry On My Shoulder, Forever, and Just for Me. For those songs the cd is worth buying. I wouldn't pay 17 bucks for this like alot of Christian distributors charge, but then again I wouldn't pay that much for any cd. I'm interested to see what Overflow do with their talents in the future. A good debut release.
AWESOME!!!!!.......2004-09-05
That's the best word I can think of to describe it. The guys did a great job with this cd. I love this cd. And, they are not paying me to say that! It would be nice, though, if they would. :p Hee Hee Seriously, they're nice guys. This cd deserves everyone's attention. I've had it since the day it came out, and I'm still not sick of it. (:

Magnificent.......2002-02-21
If you have ever been, or think you might ever be, a fan of the music of George Gershwin, opera, musical theatre, jazz, powerful, triumphant singing by trained African-American voices, orchestral music, historical/cultural documents layered in innovative artistry, hearing the next generation of Opera Grand Dammes and Divos before the sun also rises on their already international careers...all of this and more is to be found on this CD. One might say I'm a little biased, as my ex-fiancee/best friend (Angela Brown, Soprano) and a number of friends of mine in the business are on this CD. But you don't have to know them to love them when they sound like this.
Angela, who has one of the most powerful voices in the industry (she recently covered AIDA at the Met for an all of a sudden slightly nervous and miraculously recovered from illness [upon hearing Angela warm up on stage] Debra Voigt), sings PORGY's "My Man's Gone Now" about as well as I've ever heard her--which is by definition (trust me) better than most of the sopranos of the last century, BAR NONE...the master Greg Baker, who has done Amonasaro and John The Baptist at the Met to incredibly deserved acclaim, performs excerpts from his signatue role Crown and Porgy at the top of his game...the rich tones of Marquita Lister, whose debut as Bess in the Goetz Friedrich production of PORGY in the Theatre Des Westens of Berlin in 1993 was a shot to all established divas heard 'round the world (now singing with her on that stage at that time was FUN, let me tell you), sounds like a ringy, milk chocolate/black velvet version of the milky, white velvet Rene Fleming...Diva Harolyn Blackwell, not to be outdone, rings and soars in everything she does...
This CD would be a treat even without the introduction of BLUE MONDAY, the DNA of PORGY AND BESS work that gives us a window into the creative mind of George Gershwin, and the embryonic existence of PORGY AND BESS itself. BLUE MONDAY gives us much of the thematic material and revolutionary artistic ideas that led to Gershwin triumphantly blurring the lines separating grand Musical Theatre in the tradition of Jerome Kern (think SHOWBOAT) from the high art of Wagnerian/Verdian/Russian Opera with PORGY; influencing everyone from Richard Rogers to Leonard Bernstein to Stephen Sondheim in American composition thereafter. BLUE MONDAY, in its simple, deceptive beauty (with parts sung immaculately by Angela and Marquita) gives you the clue to just how powerfully Gershwin planned to shake up the world with the debut of PORGY and BESS in 1935--and did.
And can you even imagine how it feels to hear the voice of Cab Calloway, linking every conceivable strand of High African-American music, American musical theatre, American opera and Jazz of the 20th century together with every word he says? Could there have been a better Sportin' Life? (Gershwin actually wrote the part of Sportin' Life in PORGY both for and based on the personality and artistry of Calloway--the friend of Ellington and biggest influence on the music and personality of Dizzy Gillespie--while he played in Harlem's Cotton Club in the 1930's.)
But this CD is not a Museum piece made for music academics or an excuse for me and others in the business to party with singer friends (I don't need this good an excuse for that!). This is absolutely beautiful music that will sweeten your home and soul on the first hearing.
This could easily be like Miles Davis' KIND OF BLUE for all enthusiasts of good music who (smartly) don't lay claim to liking, being an "expert" of or sticking to one particular style. Just as anyone who kind of likes any of the jazz they've heard loves KIND OF BLUE, if you have ever heard strong American music sung with powerful American voices over a tight orchestra, but had too much fun listening to it to call it "opera", you will love this CD.

Loved Every F**king Second.......2002-10-09
From the start this album is very dark and has a sound that only Razed In Black could summon. There sound could be compared to Nine Inch Nails but that would be way to cliche. The whole album keeps you wraped up in it's grip untill the very end. Track 3 is my favorite because of the dark Techno beats and for the "Soft But Brutal" vocals. Even though this is a Remix CD it is still very well composed and brings your mind to the brink of madness in everything that it is.
An excellent CD.......2000-11-08
If you like Razed in Black or even if you don't, you should get this CD. Kicking things off with the title track, this CD is solid all the way through to the end track, Future Unknown, which is my favorite song on this CD and one of my favorite Razed in Black songs. My one complaint about this album: too short.

A Sanctified Tribute of..........2004-07-20
I listened to this one quite a few times before I actually picked it up, nervous that it would end up on my list of "CDs I Bought Because One Song Sounded Good." It was recommended by Michael W. Smith, but this was released by his label (Rocketown Records), so his recommendation didn't carry much weight. I always find it kind of laughable that Christian labels feel the need to compare themselves to secular groups - this one, for instance, claimed that is was appropriate "For fans of U2 or Coldplay". That's nice...that way Christian bands will always be regarded as sanctified tribute bands.
If, by the way, you are going to sound like one of the most successful bands of all time (like U2), you better be good. I played this at various functions and almost everyone with an ear for music asked "Is this U2?" Yes, he sounds like U2. No, it's not as good as U2, but U2 aside, it's not a bad disc. Recommended for fans of U2? I'm not sure. It might be better for people that haven't realized that they're fans of U2 - that way they'll avoid the comparison altogether.
I hope that Taylor's disc does well - the writing is good, the songs are well-produced, and several of the songs even deserve a listen from Bono himself. For a man that finds himself in conflict with a band that went into the woods a band that loved God and came out a rock band (as U2 did) - this is the perfect reconciliation.
Incredible, awesome CD.......2004-05-12
I bought this CD on another web site because there were selling it for 1 cent! Turns out it is the BEST CD I have bought in years. For those of you old enough to remember World Party (Put The Message In The Box), Taylor reminds me of them only better. The song writing is excellent, his vocals fantastic and the music great.
I agree with the other reviewer that it's only a matter of time before Taylor is a "big name" in the music industry and he could easily be a "cross over" into the secular music world. I hope he is because his music is that good and his message is worth hearing.
The best songs are the first and the last ones. The last one "Sing (Or The Rocks Will Get To)" stuck in my head for weeks but unlike when you get a song in your head you hate, this was fabulous.
But this CD!
A must Buy!!.......2004-04-05
This cd is flat out amazing. If you bought Taylor's cd The fill and liked it, I will asure you will love The Overflow. I actually just got back from a concert he put on in Indiana and he is that much more awesome in concert. Taylor is the most talented young artist out there right now. You are hearing it here first, Taylor Sorenson will be the next "big name" in music. He is very talented and his vocals are like none you have heard. Buy this CD, it's a must!!

Kevin Davidson & The Voices (KDV) is a choir outfit from out of Memphis. .......2006-10-12
Kevin Davidson & The Voices (KDV) is a choir outfit from out of Memphis. With a couple of other albums under their belt this millennium and hearing this one, clearly they know the current game.
The lively `Tabernacle', `Work It Out', audacious `Over' and the beautifully concise `God Wants To Heal You' carry the album. There's a welcome raw edge to `I Will Call Upon The Lord' - live music must never be too polished. All lead vocals were up for it though Michelle Prather was a tonal joy for me; hints of Karen Clark-Sheard and right in the dynamic pocket where I like sopranos.
Should I be picky? Nothing really i.e. the mix weighs slightly against the lead vocals favour but that's preferential though.
The choir live recording product is pretty well defined now; so you can expect many facets including precision choir fronted by various dynamic leads, rasping synth-brass, cutting strings, airtight drum-fills, a credential-revealing intro, a medley of back-to-back songs and some ministry may feature. There are grooves you heard somewhere before and traditional gospel workouts. Worship sits alongside uplifting themes like `new season' and `breakthrough'. The quality lies in the execution of each track and their cohesion coming across as a single event; the listener equally feels present at the event or brings that event into his environment. Overflow shows KDV are in the big league and are more than competent in every facet of the genre

Shawn Smith is amazing.......2002-04-04
If you're unfamiliar with any of Shawn Smith's other works (2 albums by Brad, a few more by Satchel, 2 other Pigeonhed releases, and a solo release), let me suggest that this be the last album you buy. Not that is bad by any means, just different.
"Pigeonhed's Flash Bulb Emergency Overflow Calvacade Of Remixes" is the full name of the album (Which Amazon does not disclose in the description or title). As the title suggests the album is a bunch of Pigeonhed songs remixed with more techno beats and electronica.
I fully enjoy listening to "Flash Bulb Emergency Overflow", but it makes better background music than "pure listening pleasure" music. This is in contrast to other works by Shawn Smith which seem to draw emotions from the listener- emotions that range from the urge to dance in your skivvies to crying over a beer thinking about your last few girlfriends...
wow..............1998-07-28
The first time I heard the song "Battleflag" I thought it was Jamiraqaui's new single but then I realized that what I was listening to far surpassed Jamiraquai's standard. The song is full of great grooves and plenty of rappalicious lyrics. Go for it.
