True to its title, the sounds found on Desert Station Frequency seem to waver through the barren elements of neglected existence at some dilapidated outpost. With intense resolve, Ventilator exorcise their personal demons with minimal sound structures and turbulent mosaics based in rock, blues, and folk. The heavy, soul-scratched vocals take the listener into the desolate world inhabited by the artist. Meanwhile, industrial sound collages mixed with distorted radio signals and schizophrenic voices underscore the root of the subject's bitter resolution to seek salvation in places reached only through inner discourse and isolation. Recalling the work of Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees) and Chris Whitley, the production is enhanced by tasteful engineering and production at the hands of John Cale (Velvet Underground). The various strains and elements culminate with a sense of reprieve and resolution in the concluding track, "The Siren Song of Unreason." Here the softly spoken yet unapologetic epilogue liberates the artist as he confronts his nemesis head on with an admission of guilt mixed with newfound hope and conviction. --Lucas Hilbert

Album Description

Independent Label Biotasonics formed in 1999. Utilizing the power of the internet for self promotion. Allthough we have just one release, we are busy working on our next release "Dusty Tongue Cannibal". Our hope is to also include a compilation release featuring other artists that Ventilator has worked with in the past. Tim Keegan (Robyn Hitchcock), Leticia, (Amerifolk artist from the Eastcoast), and some other chaps we have met through our Travels to the U.K.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Ventilator - masterful vocalist, fascinating songs.......2005-10-28

Highly recommended - the songs on this album where Chrisopher really sings are some of the best I've heard. Lyrically fascinating. Songs are evocative and diverse. Gorgeous.

5 out of 5 stars The tracks were different and fresh........1999-11-18

I thought the tracks displayed a unquie sound. The lyrics said somthing.I was happy to know there is another tortoured soul out their that is willing to display his demons.

Ventilator Desert Station FrequencyBiotasonic It is not often that a CD comes my way that defies description or classification. However"Desert Station Frequency" did exacly that. This album, a remarkable mix of rock, blues, and industrial sound effects, constantly surprises and intrigues. Its mood varies from dark and foreboding to full of redemption and clarity. The song writing is superb, and mixed with great production and musicianship, it packs a punch you'll feel long after the last note fades. The first track that stood out was a spoken word piece called "Blueblackhours". It is an earnest, meditative spew on the happenings during nighttime hours. The vocalist-turned-beat-poet espouses on how the midnight hours can fosters deep and truthful thinking. In his estimation, the are stages we go through in the night- soul sacrifice, reclamation and finally, reality. In the background, as he speaks, distorted voices echo his thoughts. This gives his thoughts even more solidity in the listener's mind.Gritty and poignant, "I Swear" is another high point of the record. Part love song, part admission of admission of flaws, this particular track engrosses the listener. It is capable of immediately transporting the listener to a past hurt, buried and nearly forgotten. Visceral yet ethereal, "Desert Station Frequency" succeeds in doing what few bands do-masterfully uniting many different sounds and feels to produce a consummate work of audio art. electronmusic -- Kaje Johnston
