Following the more accessible Orange and the refreshing excursion of Experimental Remixes, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion take a half-step back with Now I Got Worry's harder, sloppier mixes. But, perhaps in deference to the wider audience the band hopes to attract through its new major-label distributor, Spencer tones down his blues animal showman, and the band serves up a wider set of flavorings that include the tasty keyboards of Beastie sideman Money Mark. What it all adds up to, though, is no great departure from the raw roots-punk the Blues Explosion have offered since day one. --Roni Sarig

5 out of 5 stars Speaker Splitting Rock.......1999-03-26

This album opens with John Spencer screaming like Elvis would if hot irons were being applied to his feet, and that's bascially the tone for the album. Rock's tradition is raw and savage, and these guys uphold that tradition with a record that bristles with attitude, crunch, and incredible guitar work. Put DOWN your hip-hop and go buy this record.

4 out of 5 stars Blues With a Mohawk and Safety Pins.......1998-11-15

You gotta give 'em credit. To meld high-speed three-chord punk and blues is a master stroke, and this album makes for an enjoyable mix. Spencer sounds like Elvis through a warped fuzzbox ... and it make such testosterone poisoned lines as "Kiss my a** - your girlfriend still loves me!" a hoot. Most important, Spencer has resurrected the Blues Groove - Robert Johnson, after all, was a dance musician. "Love All of Me" and "Chicken Dog" have indelible dance grooves. This album takes a while to get hooked on, then doesn't let go.

5 out of 5 stars If you like the driving raw beat..........2006-03-19

...of other BXs albums then this one is for you. I think this is the BX's most complete work to date. Most albums dilly with some funky beats, then some screamin' fast riffs, some talking tracks, etc. This one goes straight at you with some truly punk-inspired songs bluesy rock. Songs like R.Ls got Soul, Chicken Dog, and Hot Shot get you to first tapping foot, then bobbin' you head, then closing your eyes.. when the songs are done, you've got chills and you're bouncing off the walls. My only complaint on this album is that it doesn't end with Get Over here, but instead throws the gluey "sticky" track on the top. All in all though this is a must have for any indie rock or BX listener.

3 out of 5 stars Most seem to either love or hate this one but...........2005-07-29

Not my favorite JSBX record but never the less still a pretty good listen. Some of the songs kick major ass and yet others are sort of half assed and lack direction. I'd recommend Orange, ACME, Extra Width and Plastic Fang over this one unless you can grab it at a decent price (which is generally the case). Not bad but not their best stuff either.

3 out of 5 stars Still OK, but the worst JSBX album.......2004-06-25

After the release of one of the best albums of the 1990s 'Orange' expectations were high for the next. Unfortunately 'Now I Got Worry' did not live up to the hype and in fact is not a very good albu. Of course there are still some great songs like 'Wail' or 'RL Got Soul' which have the good old Judah Bauer riffs and hooks. The loudness and explosions are still there but the quality of the songs is not too great. Half of the album are mediocre pop songs. Thank god for all the other great JSBX albums.

5 out of 5 stars Get it.......2002-08-27

I'm not a music critic, so I'll just say that this is my favorite JSBX album. It's rock. And it's great pretty much all the way through. Have fun.
