    Album Description

As bandleader and composer, Pierre Lacocque's vision has never wavered since he founded Mississippi Heat in 1991. "Mississippi Heat not only breathes new life into the classic sounds of Chicago Blues but they also uplift with joy and dedication everything they play. Pierre Lacocque is that rare younger generation harpist who's absorbed the lessons of subtlety, silence and solo construction from the masters." - David Whiteis, Chicago Reader

    5 out of 5 stars A very good band.......2004-08-04

5 out of 5 stars How messed up is the Music Industry?.......2004-02-27

Short and sweet: This is a great album no mater what you label it, pop, power pop, whatever. It's just a damn shame that we are forced to listen to that RAP CRAP when stuff like this is out there, no wait it's not available at this time. WAY TOO BAD!

    5 out of 5 stars 2001 top ten.......2001-12-08

I have to agree with the reviews I have read. This cd is strong from top to bottom. There are so many good songs on it that it's hard to pick a favorite( Sheepwalking and Yes World are great though). There is no question this cd should make a lot of top 10 list. It certainly deserves it. What a superb effort!

5 out of 5 stars Get it! You won't be sorry.......2001-11-29

I read a review of this CD in Phoenix's New Times magazine and I am always looking for new music and groups. Heard some samples from the CD on The Mockers web site and knew I had to get it. This CD is wonderful. I'm a sucker for great pop music and this is it. I've seen a lot of references to this being power pop music, if this is power pop keep it coming Mockers! The CD goes from home, to car, to work and back.
Living in the Holland Tunnel is filled with catchy tunes, great guitar work, excellant production work, and clever lyrics. The music has a timeless quality to it. The Mockers seem to be very influenced by the Beatles, Kinks, Zombies, Big Star, and the Beach Boys to name a few.
The song "Pearly Gates" is worth buying the CD for alone -- an outstanding song! Other favorites are "Coronation" and "Sheepwalking" (gotta love that title!). All the songs are great I hate to just narrow down the list to the above songs.
This is clearly one of the great CDs to come out in 2001. It is on my top 5 list for 2001 to be sure.
RUN OUT AND BUY IT! You're gonna love it especially if you love great "power pop" music! Take a chance, you won't be sorry.

5 out of 5 stars The best power/jangle pop record of the year.......2001-09-21

Awesome record! What a collection of tunes! They're all great but "Coronation" really makes an impression. Unusual song structure! How many songs begin with the chorus? The middle bridge section is straight out of "Pet Sounds" and Funk #50 (a play on The James Gang Funk #49?) opens with a tip of the hat from Klatuu's "Calling Occupants", while the verse begins with a quote from "Let's Spend the Night Together". While they are unique songs, they remind you of every glorious pop tune you've ever heard. Layered harmonies, clever lyrics, melodic guitars; they got it all! I hear whispers of Bobby Sutliff, (another guy produced by Mitch Easter), The Windbreakers, Badfinger, Raspberries, The Cavedogs, The Three O'Clock, Color Me Gone, Guadalcanal Diary, DB's, Big Star, Pez Band, etc., etc. There's even a dab of 70's skinny-tie pop rolled in...Superb production by Mitch Easter (as usual). The guitar tone is outstanding, especially on "More Important Things"; it's somewhere just this side of Bowie's "Suffragette City". If you like any of the aforementioned bands, you're gonna *LOVE* this CD.

This CD is incredible. The lyrics are clever, and insightful, and definetly NOT what youd expect from youre typical hardcore band. But then again these guys are not youre typical hxc. Super catchy, oldschool style that you can sing along to all day! I got the chance to see these guys a couple times and they were amazing. One of the best records around, I hope they keep putting out great music!

5 out of 5 stars Ledgendary Ska Punk.......2003-12-11

Janitors Against Apartheid never made it huge or to the
top, but they got damn close, you could say they where
"almost famous". In the 7 years that the band was active
many line-up changes where made. Serveral demos had been released and distributed to the right connections, such as more
popular bands, and promoters. The first line-up consisted of
a singer who was a cross between EnCino Man, Pee-Wee Herman and
Morrisey. So most people don't know about the original singer unless there a die-hard JAA fan. Soon after the departure of the original singer and a line-up change for drummers The band had plenty of shows and tour under there belt that they became one of the most respected underground bands during the 3rd wave ska-era.

The release of Nerds was a triumphing experience for the
group with thanks to SKA Ledgends Skankin Pickle, the CD
was put out on their label Dill records. A huge tour followed
with the group MU-330. It was this tour that the manager/band member quit before hitting the road. With no supervision or
managment, the band went on a frenzy of drugs, booze, and chaos which was comparable to Hunter S. Thompson "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas". When the tour finished and Nerds sold thousands of copies, the bands dream of being larger than life rockstars was taken away from them.

In Los Angeles during a regular one off show, a group
of people claiming to be record label excutives showed
up and said they wanted to sign us. It turns out that they
where lawyers from a Candy company, serving papers that
said they where sueing for Tradmark Infrindgment, (basicly
for ripping off the Nerd's Candy logo without permisson).
News spread of the lawsuit, band moral was at an all time low
band members quit out of faliure and a dream taken away.
The band was to forge on with new members and shows, but
the last original member quit, because the fact was, the party was over. JAA and Dill Records ended up paying the
full ammout asked from the Candy Company. As of yet
there are no talks of a JAA reunion, but the question you
have to ask is, would people still remember these guys?

Nerds was the first and last of a wonderful and stange time during the rise and fall of the 3-Wave-Ska generation..
