4 out of 5 stars New BFS is pretty good........2007-05-14

Pretty good BFS stuff. New lighter fare, but has the definitive sound of BFS. It's different enough not to be stale though. Still, Drunk Enough... is still my fave.

5 out of 5 stars The best BFS album to date!.......2007-03-01

I LOVE this album! I thought that a hangover you don't deserve would never get beaten but it did. I would reccomend getting every BFS album EXCEPT goes to the movies

5 out of 5 stars Classic BFS.......2007-02-16

If you like Bowling For Soup's previous CDs you'll like this one. Witty lyrics and a pop-punk beat make up the newest addition to the BFS world. And if you get this CD just for the lyric insert it will be worth it ;-)

4 out of 5 stars Trying to explain the title to the shop assistant was tough..........2007-01-25

The Great Burrito Extortion Case marks Bowling For Soup's sixth album to date and in my opinion its one of their best.

On the new album, the guys of Bowling for Soup are just having a good time singing and joking around all to a pop punk beat. The music is definitely not for everyone but if you're a fan of the pop punk genre well you should get a kick out of this album because not only does it contain some great tunes but its pretty funny to boot.

The hit single "High School Never Ends" is probably one of the best tracks on the album and is also probably the most meaningful. While the song seems rather silly and upbeat, however, if you really listen to the lyrics the song is pretty much stating fact. Life is High School and it never ends until we die. I think it's interesting that Bowling for Soup can make such a silly sounding song but at the same time it can still prove true to our society.

Other noteworthy songs include Much More Beautiful Person, Val Kilmer, and my personal favorite track Why Don't I Miss You? While I can't say I ever felt the need to skip any of the tracks on the album and I have listened to this album well over 10 times now, I do feel the track I'm Gay is probably the weakest song on the album. It just seems to try to hard to be funny when after a while it gets old.

I have understood why Bowling for Soup hasn't become a big Pop Punk band like Blink 182 but maybe it's for the better. I personally think these guys rock and I am a dedicated fan to their music. They try really hard to have fun and upbeat music with a pop punk sound and I respect them for it. Some may even call Bowling for Soup a spoof of pop punk music but I think there awesome either way.

All in all, The Great Burrito Extortion Case is a great album. If you're a fan of Bowling for Soup and enjoyed their last few albums you will probably love this CD as much as you loved those.

5 out of 5 stars It's BFS...of course it's amazing! .......2007-01-17

As their 9th studio release BFS couldn't have hoped for more out of an album. There are so many songs that could be radio releases on this new album that I don't know how they decided to choose High School Never Ends as a starter. Buy this album, buy this album, buy this album. I can't say enough good things about BFS both as a band and as guys...they're completely freakin amazing.

Songs to listen to over and over on this CD: High School Never Ends ,Why Don't I Miss You, Much More Beautiful Person, WHEN WE DIE (mainstream radio Feb. 5th), Lovesick Stomach Ache.

5 out of 5 stars Sleeper Album.......2007-05-07

"Winter" is simply the most gorgeous rock and roll ballad on record. Anywhere. At any time. It's lush and earthy at the same time. For me, and I love me some ballads, this trumps "Tangerine", "Wild is the Wind" and "Danceaway" (by Led Zep, Bowie, and Roxy Music, respectively).
Goats is a timeless, seamless album. Brilliant.

5 out of 5 stars The Best of the Rolling Stones albums.......2007-01-13

All the tracks on this album shows the great musician ship of the band. Each artist shines out in every song. I really like this album when it came out and still play it quite often.

4 out of 5 stars Happy surprise.......2007-01-09

5 out of 5 stars THE STONES DELIVER AND SERVE SOME GREAT ROCK N' ROLL WITH GOATS HEAD SOUP! .......2006-12-13

I will be writing a review on the brilliant legendary masterpiece CD album entitled "GOATS HEAD SOUP" by THE GREATEST ROCK N' ROLL BAND IN THE WORLD, I give you THE ROLLING STONES! "GOATS HEAD SOUP" was originally released on vinyl/LP and cassette in 1973 on the infamous Rolling Stones Records label which is manufactured by Columbia Records. I purchased the very first print issue of this album on CD and the matrix or ID number is CK 40492. I also purchased the second re-release in a Collector's Edition on the Virgin Records label and the matrix or ID number is 7243-8-39498-2-3. If I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary album, I will edit this review so that you the consumer will get the best and most accurate review possible.

In my opinion, "GOATS HEAD SOUP" is another great album written by the Glimmer Twins! I will list and briefly review all the song tracks in their exact order as follows: (1.) "Dancing With Mr. D.," (Outstanding rocker! I love this song! This is a great way to begin an album!) (2.) "100 Years Ago," (Another outstanding song! I love the way this song speeds up and rocks in the middle.) (3.) "Coming Down Again," (A beautiful song! I love it!) (4.) "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)," (Outstanding! Another brilliant killer rocker by The Stones! I love this song!) (5.) "Angie," (Outstanding! A brilliant and beautiful slow mellow song. I love this song very much!) (6.) "Silver Train," (Outstanding! Another brilliant rocker from The Stones! I love this song!) (7.) "Hide Your Love," Another outstanding rocker! I love this song!) (8.) "Winter," (Outstanding! Another beautiful slow rocker! I love it!) (9.) "Can You Hear The Music" (Outstanding! Another great slow rocker! I love it!) and (10.) "Star Star." (Outstanding! Another brilliant killer rocker by The Stones! We all know that if you listen to these lyrics closely, you will hear something that I cannot disclose in this review if you know what I mean! Great rocker! What a way to end this legendary album. I love this song!) Overall, every single song track in this album is nothing less than outstanding and excellent.

As you can see, this album is definitely worth purchasing that he or she should definitely own as part of his or her collection. This album is guaranteed to be around to be enjoyed for many years to come.

In closing, The Rolling Stones are an extraordinary band that I believe will live on forever. I recently told my father that The Beatles are THE GREATEST BAND THAT POPULAR MUSIC AS WELL AS ROCK N' ROLL EVER PRODUCED! I also told him that The Rolling Stones are THE GREATEST ROCK N' ROLL BAND IN THE WORLD! Two different terms that should not be confused. After all, their music speaks for itself, am I wrong? Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for all of you. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. God bless and long live The Rolling Stones! Long live Rock n' Roll! Rock out always and take care. J.L.

5 out of 5 stars LAST ONE OF THE GREAT EARLY 70'S ALBUMS.......2006-07-25

You want proof Charlie's the best drummer in rock? Listen to Heartbreaker then Angie and you should know. Heartbreaker starts unusually for a Stones rocker with a keyboard riff then with a brief but perfect drum roll then the song begins to drive with a simple but oh so swinging pattern. Angie has beautifully understated drumming which both eases the song along and plays subtly along to acetuate the vocal. Gorgeous. Heartbreaker deserves more recognition than it gets as it is one of the best big arrangement songs they've done with driving rhythm from Keith, Charlie, Bill and the keyboards and some nice wah wah guitar and a great solo from Mick Taylor.
The album has lots of other songs that grow on you such as 100 Years Ago, Winter, Coming Down Again and CanYou Hear the Music. I'm not quite as keen on Silver Train as it seems like a poor cousin of All Down the Line. All in all this should be in all Stones fans collections. And you've gotta love that drumming!

Album Description

The follow up to 2002's 'Drunk Enough To Dance' sees the power-pop-punk quartet keeping to form with another album of sugar coated anthems. With no radical changes on this effort the band pay homage to girls, parties, and their all encompassing influence of the 1980's with references to hair metal and 80's movies throughout. This time round the band have anall-star cast of collaborators including members of Fastball, Nerf Herder and Sugar Ray. The album was produced by Butch Walker (Avril Lavigne, Simple Plan).

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Good enough to buy again!.......2007-04-16

I bought this CD when it first came out. Due to heavy usage between my truck and my wife's car, it finally became unplayable. I had to replace it, so thanks to Amazon I got a pretty good price. The shipping price was great, but it did take a little longer than I would have liked.

4 out of 5 stars Very Nice....VERY Nice! .......2007-01-02

As others have noted, this isn't really punk. If that's what you're looking for, you can stop looking here. Just move along.

But this is definitely a fun album, and worth your attention.

"Almost" is a bouncy little song about a near-miss in a relationship. Not terrible, but not great, either - 6/10

"Trucker Hat" really doesn't appeal to me, but it isn't unlistenable. - 4/10

"1985" is just a great anthemic song about the '80's music scene. As others have noted, it's a song penned by another band, but BFS put their mark on it here. - 8/10

"Get Happy" isn't a great song, but I like it somewhat more than "Trucker Hat". 5/10

"Ohio" is just tremendous. It's a silly song about how the state of Texas, collectively, wants the protagonists girlfriend to return. There are references to the Bush twins, Forest Whittaker, and others. It's worth the price of the CD just to hear the list of all the people that "want you back". "I've got a premonition I'm making a petition, and the whole state's gonna sign!". Oh yeah! - 10/10

"Ridiculous" is unremarkable, at best - 4/10

"Shut-Up and Smile" is okay. 6/10

"Last Call Casualty" is catchy, even if it's somewhat light as a song. - 6/10

"Next Ex-Girlfriend" is wonderfully cynical and really energetic. 7/10

"A-hole" is probably the best song on the album. It's about a guy realizing what a...well, what an a-hole he's been to his ex, and how he deserved the dumping he got. It's about as close to a love song as BFS will ever probably write. It's a shame that it won't get a lot of airplay outside of satellite radio (if even there). Even if you never listen to another BFS song in your life, listen to this one. - 10/10

"My Hometown" is most definitely not a Springsteen cover. The guys rail here about how much they hate their hometown, and how they're so glad to be out (in very profane terms). - 7/10

"Smoothie King" is somewhat too long for the small idea it contains. 5/10

"Sad Sad Situation" is just okay. 6/10

"Really Might Be Gone" isn't a bad song, but not my thing. 5/10

"Down For The Count" has a boxing metaphor that's actually well-done throughout. (Most such metaphors in songs aren't.) The verses are broken up by the "announcer" (Jarret) (e.g., "And now on to Verse 2!!"), and the presentation is clever. And, interestingly, they hold back on profanity here, preferring "effing" to the big F word (used as an adjective) throughout the song. You might not think it'd work, but it matches the tone of the song. The song ends with the protagonist checking his cell phone messages and hearing the love interest's final message, then deleting it. It's an interesting effect here, and it works. 8/10

"Two Seater" is a deceptively cheery song about a guy trashing his ex-girlfriend's car. ("I hope you like your two-seater, no radio, keymarks parallel to the pin stripes...".) Definitely a funny song. 8/10

"Friends O' Mine" is basically the band's ode to each other. It's been done before. It's nice, but not impressive. 6/10

"Ohio (Hidden Track)" continues the list of people that "want you back" in the original song. It's basically the guys goofing around. It's pretty funny, even if it does get juvenile at times. 7/10

"Belgium (Hidden Track)" is a boy-band mix of their original song, "Belgium". It's funny as a self-parody, but I don't know if a lot of people will realize that's what it is. 7/10

So there you have it. Now go buy it! :)

5 out of 5 stars Their most successful, 3 hits, but all are great. Must have in any collection. Happy rock with a punk edge........2006-12-09

Bowling for soup burst on the scene a few years ago with their funny videos and rocking edge, but also a suprise grammy nomination for Drunk enough to dance riding high on the hit song/video Girl all the bad guys want. This album is the follow up to drunk enough to dance, and spawed 3 successful radio songs with 1985, almost, and Ohio. This album is now also available as a dual disc, with videos for 1985 and Almost on it. Either way, this album will keep you hopping all day with a smile. check it out.

2 out of 5 stars Skip this and go for the real thing.......2006-09-09

At first listen BFS sounds like a great power pop band with catchy lyrics of self deprecating humor. After a couple of listens though you'll realize they're really just a cheap rip-off of Fountains Of Wayne, who instead write really smart/funny lyrics, great power pop hooks and awesome arrangements.
As a general note, I think really there's so little good original music available these days that many mediocre bands are getting rave reviews. I see it all the time as I scroll through Amazon's reviews..4 stars here, 5 stars there and the music is either total [...] or uncreative garbage that gets old after three listens. I've decided to hold out for the "WOW" factor and if it's not there, then pass without settling for mediocrity. There's a few bands in this vein that are the real thing: Spoon, The Zutons, I Am Kloot, Harvey Danger, Dogs Die In Hot Cars just to name a few. Don't settle folks, keep your standards high otherwise what will happen is the market will continue to be saturated with bands that have made it on nothing but marketing power and/or imitations of the real thing. Use your power as consumers to spend your hard earned cash on those that deserve it.

4 out of 5 stars Almost 5 Star.......2006-11-14

This is more like it. To me "Soup" is a much better album than "Fruitcakes" and I rate it right up with his classic albums. Almost every song here is a winner. The album starts with the title track "Barometer Soup" which is one of those songs that you hear it once and you can't get it out of your head. If radio would have given this a chance I think it could have been a hit. Other highlights include "Barefoot Children", "Bank Of Bad Habits", "Remittance Man", "Lage Nom Ai", "The Ballad Of Skip Wiley" and "The Night I Painted The Sky". The album closer is a spirited high energy cover of James Taylor's "Mexico". Buffett has a talent for picking good cover songs and this one is perfect for Buffett to tackle. On the down side Buffett includes some silliness that has plagued many of his 90's era albums. Songs like "Don't Chu-Know" are meant to be light hearted fun, but seem more like album filler to my ears. Overall "Barometer Soup" is one of Buffett's best 90's era albums and a big improvement over "Fruitcakes" in my opinion.

1 out of 5 stars One of his worst ever.......2006-08-28

Sometime around the mid 1980s I noticed that Rolling Stone stopped writing reviews of Jimmy's releases. This made sense, since he never really did anything new or different (until the 2000's). This one is just more of the same banal/lackluster junk he put out during a 15 year drought.

5 out of 5 stars My first Buffett CD and still my favorite.......2006-06-23

This was the first Buffett CD I bought and it is still my favorite. I remember listening to this one in the summer of 1995, during which I spent probably too much time on Spanish Banks. It set the mood perfectly, and was always on the player during the afternoon sailing jaunts. If these sorts of things appeal to you, this one should form the basis of your collection. Alternatively, Far Side of the World probably ranks close to Soup in overall quality, and is a little more sophisticated in the range of music.

5 out of 5 stars This is the Buffet I grew up with.......2004-05-19

Like many young Buffet fans, I was weaned on "Songs You Know By Heart" and his older material. Unfortunately, Buffet hasn't had as much success with his newer albums. Many of the songs are largely forgettable, and just don't have that same relaxed feeling of his past hits. There maybe one or two good songs, a decent cover, and the rest just don't cut it. "Barometer Soup" however, brings back that familiar Buffet sound with several great songs.

Some noteworthy songs:

Barometer Soup
Barefoot Children
Bank of Bad Habits
Diamond as Big as the Ritz
Lage Nom Ai
Mexico

"Lage Noma Ai" really stands out on the album as a fast tempo song with a familiar island theme, as many of the songs are. This album contains a heavy use of bongo drums and keys. The James Taylor cover, "Mexico" is one of the best covers I've heard Buffet do, and works prticularly well since he has the same first name as James Taylor.

As I mentioned, the best thing about this album in comparison with others, is that it has so many great songs on it rather than just a couple. Hopefully, Buffett will come back to this formula on his other discs.

5 out of 5 stars Pour me a drink!.......2004-03-31

Picked up this CD just recently. I actually prefer it to both his box set and his greatest hits album. The whole album just feels like it flows better than his earlier works (and I love his older stuff too!). If you're just starting your Buffett collection, start here. You won't regret it.

5 out of 5 stars "girl all the bad guys want" and more from the happiest band on earth.......2006-12-09

Bowling for soup is a band that just make you want to smile. This ablum is the one that moved them to obscurity as a small texas band to the spotlight getting nominated for a Grammy award. Although it should have one, it lost to an artist that literally sold only about 51 cds or something like that, big scandal in my book. But this CD is more than just one song, BFS delivers there Rock with a punk edge to it that will keep you bouncing all day. A great album all the way through, you won't be dissapointed with it. Check it out.

5 out of 5 stars I LISTEN TO IT ALL THE TIME.......2006-02-04

This is such a good band and such an awsome cd! Buy it and then buy A Hangover You Dont Deserve they are both so freakin awsome and (as u can tell by the name) i listen to them both all the time!!! buy it buy it buy it

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good.......2005-07-27

I got this album because I thought that their single "Girl All the Bad Guys Want" was catchy and funny. The rest of the album is typically like the single. I usually stay away from music like this but I would recommend it for people who something fresh. However, I did think that a lot of their songs sounded alike. It didnt have enough variation.

5 out of 5 stars A great pop punk CD...............2005-03-03

Bowling for Soup's CD is a great pop punk CD that is similar to Blink 182's style of just having fun. And I enjoy it! The songs are catchy and singable. And the music is great to blare in the car. I don't skip any song on this CD it is just a fun CD. If you liked the singles you will love this CD as all the songs have a similar feel.

5 out of 5 stars This CD rocks!.......2005-02-12

I love this CD! My boyfriend told me to check out Bowling for Soup and while I've never been so into punk before, this CD is one of my favourites! Actually, it comes second after the Attila and the Huns CDs (www.aath.net). This CD is cynical and funny and just an awesome CD to listen to when you need something to cheer you up! To me, the best song is "Running From Your Dad". If you don't already have this in your CD collection, you need it- And check out Attila and the Huns too!

5 out of 5 stars One of my Top Ten CDs.........2007-06-26

Same thoughts as those for BM - Blind Melon.. Came late to BM but love this & Soup. These, some Alice in Chains, A Perfect Circle & Days of the New are probably my most played CDs.

Getting old now, but if you didn't give this a chance you should.

5 out of 5 stars Lost Gem.......2007-06-08

Blind Melon's second (and last) proper studio album is truly a lost gem of 90's alternative rock. This effort is flawless all the way through. From the song writing to the band's musicianship, this is Blind Melon in top form. The production on this record is amazing and the album rewards those who put in the multiple listenings needed to grasp such a dense recording. This underrated masterpiece will not disappoint.

5 out of 5 stars Hoon was such a tragic loss.......2007-05-03

I find this album to be a big improvement on Blind Melon's self titled debut. It is much more diverse and tackles several musical genres with aplomb. As usual Shannon Hoon's voice is outstanding. He was a one-off. Nobody could ever sound like him. It is such a shame that he died so young and so tragically.

For me the highlight of the album and possibly one of the best songs of the 90s is "New Life". It is an amazing song both lyrically and musically. It's rare to hear a man sing about his fears and worries about impending fatherhood. Hoon wonders if the new life (the new baby) will breathe new life into him. What a noble aspiration and what a sad thing to admit. I'm sure Hoon's life was stretched enough by his drug addiction that he hoped that the impending birth of his son would give him a boost rather than drag him down further. Other classics on this album would include "Galaxie", "2X4" and "Mouth Full Of Cavities".

What an amazing talent Shannon Hoon was..and what a sad loss.

5 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars ... what could have been.......2007-02-22

This album is such a great snapshot of Blind Melon's potential. Musically it is SO diverse. Rock, New Orleans Style Jazz, country and all more in between.

While their debut is strong in its own right... Soup takes the pallet and travels in many directions that all really work. They never go beyond their ability.

The scope of this album is so broad. Lyrically it sings with Shannon's voice.

Yet another rock n roll tragedy... and an EXTREMELY overlooked album

5 out of 5 stars hands down best album of the 90's.......2006-12-14

so i recently read that blind melon was "one of the worst bands of all time" according to blender magazine. i couldn't believe that there is someone out there that has the balls to say something like that. i guess these days if music is too creative, different, or has any type of real emotion, then it's too much for the average listener to handle. this album is one of the most creative records i have ever heard! there are so many different sounds, ideas, and emotions present. everything about this band was unique. everything. if you actually like music. actually like to sit and listen to music. if you understand the magic an album can hold, then this is the album for you. if you are looking for something quick easy and to the point, i know this site sells creed records too.

The Soup Dragon's only commercially successful release, Lovegod was a definitive album of a short-lived but blissful movement in alternative dance that began in the late '80s and ended in the early '90s. Lead with fellow Scotsmen Primal Scream and other proto-trip-hop bands like the Happy Mondays, the Charlatans U.K., the Stone Roses, and the Farm, the scene revolved around community--masses joined in various forms of often chemically enhanced euphoric states, dancing till breakfast and beyond. Like Primal Scream's Screamadelica, this album follows a path clearly cut by the Rolling Stones. Their hazy, blues-on-Ecstasy psychedelic grooves fueled the club-going shoe gazers swaying in place for what could have been forever, while at the same time uplifted souls (and soles) with money-maker shakers like "Backwards Dog" and a cover of the Stones' "I'm Free." Because of its combination of timeless rock influences and its preturntablism dance sensibility, Lovegod has aged well, losing little of its capacity for elation. --Beth Massa

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Great flashback value.......2007-06-01

I bought this because I used to listen to it in high school and have great memories associated with it. My wife's class song was this version of "I'm Free," if you believe that.

For that reason, I love it. But if I look past the memories and really listen to it, it's mediocre and fairly repetitive. Once you've heard "I'm Free" and "Sweetmeat," you've heard the album.

Great flashback value, though.

4 out of 5 stars Good listening with a psychedelic edge........2007-03-12

I'm no expert on this band's history. I basically wanted their version of "I'm Free" to upload. Everything else is decent. It keeps you moving with a back to the 60's (that really happened in the 70's) beat, and my 14 yo kids like it.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Album.......2006-11-28

Not sure where the two negative reviews come from other than that the other songs on this album are not straight imitations of I'm Free. Every single one of these songs is superb, to the point where you can't believe so many great songs might go on one album. It amazes me that they never hit any greater popularity in the US than their well-known single, and I urge you to pick it up (bargain bin if you're lucky, despite what one reviewer wrote) and give it a full listen. It's brilliant.

2 out of 5 stars Great Stones Cover Track and Little Else! Poor Sound Quality Too!.......2006-01-03

Okay, I'll admit it: I bought this album because I liked "I'm Free" which I thought had a great groove and excellent wah-pedal guitar and then I found out much later that it was a Rolling Stones cover. So I thought I'd judge the rest of the tracks on the very short album which for some reason still sounds too short with the 2 bonus tracks added. I have to say that this album hasn't aged well at all and the sound quality is poor. Given the standard of recording that's out there today, if you want to do your stereo or even your eardrums any justice, I'd say pass on this until they remaster it; if they ever do. Nice psychedelic cover art though but this is essentially "I'm Free" plus 12 filler tracks. I'd recommend getting albums by EMF or Jesus Jones rather than this album.

5 out of 5 stars one of my favs.......2005-10-30

This album takes me back to the good days of music better than almost any other album. Psychedelic dance groovy synth fun music. I love this one

5 out of 5 stars Wow!.......2007-02-10

Enough of these 4-star reviews. I rate this a 6! I own all the BFS albums and this is absolutely, by far, my favorite. It's rare to find an album with so many great songs that carry you away. OK, I admit, I'm a sucker for remakes, and the ones on this album are great. Yeah, they do a remake of Brittney Spears, but so what? The song is fun. Overall the CD is full of positive, high energy music.

4 out of 5 stars Fun CD .......2007-01-10

This was a fun CD of Songs made for Movies, TV events and games and apparently some B sides or other random stuff that wasn't in previous Bowling for Soup albums.

If you are into Britney Spears bashing its fun to hear someone else doing Baby one more time(altho I admit after hearing it once or twice I just skip this song), oddly enough when I got this CD I also bought the Fountains of Wayne B side Double CD and it contained a cover of the same song.

I liked their version of I'll Melt with you. Anyone who was a Teenager in the 80s will always have an affinity for that song. I heard it at the end of Sky High and at first thought it was Weird Al - but when I saw the credits that it was BFS I was hoping to see it on an album and here it was.

The 2 stand outs of the album would be the Star song and Live it up. I think those songs could make it on Air play but haven't heard any station play them.

Undertow was pretty good as well. Those 3 Undertow, Star Song and Live it up being typical BFS songs vs written or covered for movie or entertainment industry projets.

Bottom line - if you are a BFS fan - this album will be a pretty good buy for you.

4 out of 5 stars More Soup Please!.......2006-01-07

I want to start by saying "I LOVE THIS BLOODY BAND!". Now for this album, it is a compilation album of soundtrack songs and others. It is a hit & miss affair throughout. I have to be honest here when it's bad it's really not that bad. 'Greatest Day' is a typical BFS hit single with the snappy beat & sing-a-long chorus. The absolutely horrid Britney Spears song should be left alone. Nobody cares about the awful song and no one does it justice (plenty have tried). 'Here We Go' is another good song with a great little groove ala the Flaming Groovies. There are many moments on this album which make it a good addition to your collection. The true standout tracks are Sam The Shams 'Little Red Ridinghood' & Mathew Sweets 'Sick Of Myself' and have the ability to become hit songs for the best post Green Day pop punk band so far...

4 out of 5 stars BFS Goes to the Movies.......2006-01-05

This record isn't quite as good as some of the other stuff Bowling for Soup has done, but the fun, playful vibe still shows through. Many songs are covers, and I have to say I prefer their original stuff, but it's not bad. If you're new to BFS, you ought to listen to Hangover You Didn't Deserve or Drunk Enough To Dance first. One complaint I have is that the color of the print on the insert doesn't contrast enough with the background- it's extremely difficult to read.

4 out of 5 stars One of the best BFS CD's ever........2005-11-19

I recently listened to this cd, and I'd have to say it is one of the best ones Bowling For Soup has recorded. Even though I heard a few of the tracks in other places, it is a great compilation, worth buying for even just Star Song and the Gilligan's Island Theme. The songs on here have a habit of just sticking into your head, which I think is a good thing. Overall, I'd say if you are a fan, buy it as soon as possible. If you have never listened to BFS before, buy Drunk Enough To Dance first, or even A Hangover You Don't Deserve.

5 out of 5 stars Still one of my favorites.......2007-06-08

I loved this album when it was released back in 1992, and more than 15 years later it's still one of my favorites. Unlike many albums that have only a couple good songs on them, I like every single track on this one. The music is energetic and innovative, and it seems like no matter how many times I listen to it I can still go back for more. Too bad these guys pretty much fell of the face of the earth, because they made some great music.

3 out of 5 stars Solid But Unremarkable Pop Rock Album.......2007-05-25

How can I describe this album? Succinctly, that's how.

First, take standard issue 70s rock. Then, strip a bit of flab and fuzz off while retaining the wah-wah fixation and the penchant for riffing. Keep it all in mid-tempo, then add a few early 90s elements, such as dance-influenced drum beats. If you wish, add the occasional gospel or hip-hop or country element for flavour. Filter it through an even-handed modern rock production, then make sure your singer adopts a few Ian Brown inflections.

Bam! Instant "Hotwired".

The music itself isn't bad at all, and I'm sure the album would go well at a party. The songs themselves are alright, but the problem is that they're hardly memorable. The production makes them all rather similar, despite the addition of distinguishing elements that pepper each track.

If you fancy a fun slice of pop rock, buy this one and give it a spin. It'll make that sweltering drive home much, much hipper. However, don't expect a masterpiece.

5 out of 5 stars One of my all time favorite CD's..........2005-08-07

I first heard "Divine Thing" on an alternative radio station back in 1992, right then and there I decided to go get this tape, since then I have purchased it on CD and I still enjoy it to this day. Most of the songs are great and very catchy, one might get caught bobbing their head in the car while listening to these tunes.

Most of the songs are more upbeat with lots of cool guitars and decent female background singers who add their own flavor to it, plus there are neat sound effects added some of which are from the "Star Trek" show. There are some slower songs that are good as well, Forever Yesterday is a good song except I don't really care for the first 30 seconds of the intro, there are sound effects that just don't seem to fit but after that it begins with a nice string arrangement which is sounds really pretty. Absolute Heaven is another good song that is on the slower side. My favorite song on the CD is Dream On (Solid Gone), just a fun song. Other favorites of mine include Divine Thing, Getting Down, Pleasure, Running Wild, and Sweet Layabout which is a really fun song.

All in all this is a great CD, one of which I would get an additional copy of it in case something should happen to the one I have, there are only 10 or so CD's in my collection I can say that about. Highly recommended for those who like early 90's alternative music.

5 out of 5 stars It rocks!.......2003-04-15

A great band with a different sound but the Soup Dragons still sound good even for today and it still rocks!!!, The first track to the last will keep the party going!

4 out of 5 stars Make a special rock party with this album - YEAH !!!.......2000-09-18

The music of this album has a special atmosphere; it also produces complete new sounds compared with the previous works of the band. It's so nice to enjoy it if one can appreciate the quality of the arrangements and also the recording result : they're a mix of so many noises ranging not only from the different instruments effects but also from special effects directly coming from the 60's version of the Star Trek serials! The songs are object of my passion for the Soup Dragons music. Sophisticated rock it is, with a spice of soul music. Do you rock a la Soup Dragons ?

Now that the voluminous, seemingly omnivorous Chicken Soup phenomenon has spread from print to music, beautiful sunshiny (if a tad schmaltzy--but that's the point, isn't it?) music reigns supreme throughout the land. There are excellent (obscure, even) selections on Chicken Soup for Little Souls, from one of Raffi's best educational nature songs, "Big Beautiful Planet," to Cass Elliott's uplifting "New World Coming" and Mahalia Jackson's awe-inspiring rendition of "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands." And Louis Armstrong's lovely "What a Wonderful World" continues to inspire, no matter how many feature films or commercials it's been used in. The rest of the songs included herein ought to motivate happiness and joy to sprout within all who hear them. This is an inspired collection that spans genres with uplifting sounds. --Mike McGonigal

5 out of 5 stars Reading with Meaning's Inspiration for Classroom teachers.......2003-09-05

Don't know how many primary teachers are familiar with the lovely book, "Reading with Meaning" by Debbie Miller, but this music is part of a glorious video demonstrating the warm climate exhibited in Debbie's thinking, learning classroom.
My district is using both book and video in staff development with our teachers and the beautiful music in this CD is part of what hooks teachers into the joy of establishing a warm classroom environment...that engages students in thinking and reading.

The song "All Around the World" is lovely and haunting as part of this journey! I'm buying it for door prizes--and my own enjoyment!
Can't recommend this enough--as well as the book and video--for primary classroom teachers!

5 out of 5 stars Truly excellent!.......2001-07-27

This was our second Chicken Soup for Little Souls tape and my family loves it as much as the first, so I was surprised to see the reviewer who didn't find it "fun" and was disappointed by it. Then I saw that her idea of a "fun" CD was Wee Sing. She is right that Wee Sing songs are fun. They are simple songs that are easy for young children to learn and sing. However, the Chicken Soup songs are fun in a different way.

Many of them are "grown-up" songs, by the original artist (Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong), or re-recorded in a way that is especially appropriate for children (Oh What a Beautiful Morning). All of them have lyrics that are life affirming and celebrate the world around us. I have to agree that this music is probably not "fun" for a toddler, but it is fun and uplifting for children who understand the lyrics.

Although I danced to Wonderful World with my father at my wedding, I wouldn't buy it as a dance mix, we do use it at bed time a lot. My best advice is to look at the songs that are included and if you know and like any of them, then you and your school age children will love it.

3 out of 5 stars Do I have the same CD as the other reviewers?.......2001-04-10

After reading the wonderful reviews, I ordered this CD for my 11-month old daughter. I am so disappointed by it that I wonder if I received the right CD! I expected cheerful, fun and happy songs; instead, the songs are quite slow and somewhat depressing in tone if not in words. I can't imagine how people dance to this music!! I played the CD once and have no plans to play it again. Although its not horrible, I don't find it cheerful, uplifiting or fun at all. It might work for right before bed to calm the baby down, but that is the only use I can think of for it. IF you're looking for more fun songs, I would recommend the WEE SING series.

5 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup for Little Souls.......2000-07-07

I purchased this CD for use in my classroom. The children absolutely loved it. We would all work, play, and sing to the music. It made for a very happy learning environment. I would often hear them humming the songs at odd times of the day. I am definitely happy that I bought it. It was well worth the money!

5 out of 5 stars Happy Family.......2000-03-01

This is the first cd that the whole family agrees on. The kids love it, the adults like to sing along too. I really like to listen when I am in traffic, it helps to lift your spirits.
