4 out of 5 stars Hardcore Hardcore.......2002-08-23

If you remember Ascension from back in 97', they were not nearly as heavy as this. Since their last release, they've become much heavier (in the sense of metal mayhem), and they've become more creative.

If you haven't heard of them, they're unlike any hardcore/metal band today. They hit harder, and shred heavier than most modern hardcore bands. The vocals are very distinctive as well.. -again-, not like most hardcore/metal bands that sound almost exactly alike. If you're interested in bands like Narcissus, this is definently in your ballpark. These two bands seem to be on the same wave-length (as far as shreding on the guitar goes!).

5 out of 5 stars Loud and Heavy.......1999-11-16

If you have any pent up rage listen to this disc and let it all out because there is enough raw talent and energy on this cd to make Metallica sound like Matchbox 20. NO DISRESPECT TO METALLICA. ROCK ON!

5 out of 5 stars The best Metallic Hardcore album to be put out in years!.......1999-09-30

Ascension has really improved on this fierce, ground-punching, flesh-eating, metallic album. The amazing vocals of Chris Wood tear through your eardrums with his insane ability to reach both high and low ends and everywhere in between. They made a few changes since the last album as far as members. Their new bassist and drummer work together as well as beans go with tortillas, or as chips go with hot, spicy salsa and the lucious jalapenos diced within. This record is HOT!!! Hot like a Hot tamale, or Hot Butt (you know that burning). The tapping technique that the bassist uses in a few of the songs is one that I would like to hear more often. The beats of the drummer are some of the best beats I have ever hear, this album is just amazing. I cannot say enough good about this album, this band has really progressed. Definitely pick this one up if you love the sweet mix of metal and hardcore. xDIONx

      Product Description

I love hearing a band that can make death metal sound fresh again. Very few modern death metal groups use pure chops to get their music noticed, because usually it's some kind of studio trickery or weird gimmick that makes people take notice. This five-piece from the Chicago area are definitely in the "chops" category. It's not an obsession with Egypt or 3000 riffs per song that really makes Heritage of Abomination so fucking good, it's the quality of the songs. The brutality of it all. Rellik has everything that's made death metal so popular with people like me and so unpopular with mainstream music fans. They're the type of band that your average rock fan is into until they hear the vocals. And what vocals they are! The deep growls and the mid-pitched scream are both prevalent throughout, as are many black metal-inspired riffs, superhuman blasting, and double bass insanity. I could easily see these guys fitting in on a Hate Eternal and Krisiun with no problem. The overall package of this record is greater than any one part it consists of, though. I love hearing a death metal record that is just that: straight up blasting death metal. There's enough tempo changes to keep things interesting, but never does it even approach accessible levels for your non-hardcore death metal fan.

        Product Description

Unrelenting! Explosively powerful creative thrash marked with tough metallic breakdowns, floor- punching chunka-chunka, and raucous female vocals. Speeding hardcore filled with abrasive twists and turns, violent vocal trade offs and dark and thoughtful lyrics. SCROTUM GRINDER is composed of members of the bands HANKSHAW (though they sounds nothing alike), FAILURE FACE, along with Steve Kosiba, who was in Misery Index-era ASSUCK and lead vocalist, Michelle who is a punk rock crowd-leaping terror and later sang in MOMENTO MORI! By no means a repeat of past bands or sounds, this tears with inventiveness and imagination while still keeping even keel with a destructive hardcore path, an apocalyptic dark ride with lyrical hope and inspiration as a guide... and yes, Prank knows the band name is terrible!

        Customer Reviews:

        5 out of 5 stars Propaganda .......2006-09-22

Comical leftie propaganda, hometown arguments, as well as the misinterpretation that grindcore bands aren't supposed to be listenable, are three areas which have no relevance to the quality of a CD whatsoever. I think the more intelligent reader will take this review for what it is, a great praise for another amazingly original band in what I consider to be an extremely diverse and exciting genre of music.

This band is simply aggressive and imaginative, and offer a nice slant on the standard run of the mill lyrical topics which so often reemerge from grind band to grind band.

        They're brutal.

If you're into lyrically and musically aggressive bands who's appeal focuses mainly on the energy they conduct rather than technical points of their music itself, then this is definitely worth a listen at the very least, and worth keeping in permanent rotate in your 10 stack, at best.

I'd recommend you purchase this CD and show your support to original artists and the multinational corporations who allow us to gain access to such expressive works of art.

        It's a shame they're no longer together.

        Grind your brains out.

        5 out of 5 stars REAGAN!!!.......2006-09-16

This "review" is being written for the sole purpose of clarifying something written by a previous reviwer: Scrotum Grinder were not from Brandon.

Now, in addition, it is true that one should not actually listen to this CD. In fact, CDs are not a form of media that facilitate enjoyable listening experiences. So, in this light, this reviewer urges you to never buy CDs if you intend on listening to something. In addition, CDs should never be bought from amazon.com.

4 out of 5 stars Totally cool, grinding, and much more..........2004-03-04

A previous reviewer misunderstood this record. First of all. Scrotum Grinder IS from my town, and I was privilaged enough to see them live not once, but TWICE, after they broke up no less. They're very talented individuals and this CD (or vinyl as I have) is definatly worth listening to. For fans of bands like combatwoundedveteran.

3 out of 5 stars Best Band of the worst genre.......2003-08-14

WOW , first off , Grindcore fans are odd creatures and it is every grindcore bands goal to make there fans ears bleed or to just be ironically funny. Its fun to blow the socks off of emo kids with crazy grindcore songs. Now onto the review. This CD is the work of the FIRST EVER grindcore band to actually try to play music. Not only is it noisy and blistering fast ITS ACTUALLY GOOD. Scrotum grinder is going to be great because of this. Scare your friends and actually enjoy the music a rare combo from a grindcore band.

5 out of 5 stars Continues a great tradition of 20th modern art. Honestly........2002-07-03

I have never heard of this record before, let alone listened heard it, and to be honest I never intend to. But it thrills and excites me that there are people - nay, artists - out there in the world who are able and prepared to think up album titles and band names such as this. The point is, you don't NEED to listen to a record called the Worst Sonic Abomination Ever - in fact if you DO, you have misunderstood it; if it lives up to its promise you'll, ipso facto, hate it; if it doesn't, then you'll be thoroughly disappointed, and still most likely won't be much good. Like Marcel Duchamp's classic piece of found art scuplture, "Fountain" (an upside down, signed public urinal), this item, a CD, was not intended to be played: The single piece of artistic genius is the its very existence, and that of a band named "Scrotum Grinder". These ladies and gentlemen deserve your dollars on account of the very idea of their product...

...and possibly the comfort brought by the fact that, wherever they do live, it isn't in your town.
