Customer Reviews:
Very average........2006-10-07
Only true classics deserve 5 stars, whereas only corporate drivel deserves 1 star, like a Britney Spears album. 'Savor the Flavor' is a disappointing follow-up to their debut -- 2 1/2 stars.
The Death Angel alum (save for vocalist Mark Osgueda) put together a decent effort here -- it certainly is innovative and different -- but the quality of the record doesn't quite measure up to their standards. Overall, the sound is an even further departure from the Death Angel style than what we got on the Organization's debut album. Nothing on here is really metal (not that that is necessarily a bad thing) let alone thrash metal -- most of the songs are alternative in nature.
I don't mind most of the tracks -- it plays consistently end to end -- but nothing really grabs me. 'War 25' is the best song on here, but it is by no means a great track. 'The Chase' and 'A Way Today' are also pretty good. I really like some of the different sounds they get on this record and singer Rob Cavestany's vocals are solid, if somewhat undistinct.
Unfortunately, the band got away from those great Van Halen-esque harmonies on their debut record. There's nothing really memorable here.. very few standout riffs or melodies. To put in perspective, one of the better songs on the record is 'Do it Again', a cover of the Steely Dan song that is attached to last song and is uncredited.
A decent record, but even Death Angel fans can do without it.
Surprisingly Obscure.......2003-10-21
I bought this CD in one of those CD lots you get on ebay for cheap, usually it's stuff people don't want or don't like, and occasionally you get an obscure band that really deserves a lot more credit than they get. This is one of them.
This album sounds like a cross of 80s metal and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It has great power chords, good lyrics, and at times, that funk-rock sound that the Red Hot Chili Peppers have.
There really isn't a lot more for me to say about this album, except that it rocks. If you like Queensryche, Red Hot Chili Peppers, or other 80s heavy metal, then buy this album. You won't be dissapointed.
