4 out of 5 stars Pre-Janes Perry.......2006-08-07

This EP isn;t for everyone but hardcore Janes fans will certainly appreciate the humble beginnings of Perry Farrell in this mid-80's goth/new wave quartet. While the tracks are definitely not radio friendly, it is easy to hear the early stages of Perry's genius when it comes to mixing a variety of musical styles. While the music is solid, it makes the listener appreciate the absolute brilliance of Jane's Addiction - both musically and lyrically.

5 out of 5 stars Psi Com self titled.......2006-05-26

Don't listen to the guy who dissed this CD. It is awesome. I am a huge fan of all types of music including goth and death rock. This CD is pretty dark at times but bitchin none the less. "Ho Ka Hey" is a great rocker. All the songs are unique but completely different from Janes Addiction. I wish there were more releases by these guys. The guitar is great and the bass is heavy. no simple tunes here. I wish I could have seen them live. At times it is hard to recognise Perry, but all the vocals are his.

3 out of 5 stars I was hopping for better.......2005-09-19

Perry Ferrell the lead singer and front man for one of my all time favorite bands Janes Addictions first band, Psi Com finally had a album released for mass appeal and when I heard this I had to go out and buy it. Psi Com is very post punk/gothic both genras of which I was never to fond of but when you mix Perry Ferrell in to it, it has to be good right? well kinda. I bought this album in high hopes of a great EP but after I listened to it I wasnt so happy. This isnt that good, the musician ship is decent but Perry's vocals arent as good as people make them out to be. This album comes across as a very new-wave-ish bad David Bowie persenation.

'Ho Ka Hey' is just, I dont even know what to say about it but I can barley listen to it. 'Human Condition' doesnt even sound like Perry Ferrell it sounds like some British buy from The Human League. And the song is very slow and drawn out and boring. 'Xiola' is a very beautiful name for a girl so your expecting a beautiful name but you dont get it. What you get is a decent song with some decent vocals from Perry, but at least he sounds like himself on this song. 'City Of A Gates' has a title that only Perry could come up with and it is abou the only song I this album that I can say I truly like but with that in mind its not a song I can listen to often because even though I like it, the song isnt all that good and it gets really old after a few listens. The album ends with the semi-powerful 'Winds' which isnt a good song to end an album, I mean your suppost to pick a song that would leave the listener with a song that makes them want more from a band not one that bores them. Well I guess this song does leave you wanting something more....something better!

This is not something I would recomened to anyone even if they were into post punk or gothic music of the eighties. This plays like a bad Cure album on some heavy heavy drugs which is basicaly what it is if you think about it. All the songs sound the same and they are slow drawn out boring pieces of music that you cant really listen to too many times before you get bored with it and also the music and lyrics are really predictable. This is one album that I can truly say really let me down and I had such high hopes for it. I will say this though the guitar playing on this album is pretty good.

4 out of 5 stars let's not forget the band ..........2004-01-04

People talkin' 'bout Perry's eveolution and how this release gives a cool perspective but I gotta say the guitar work is real hip too. Angular riffs and licks that make this pretty cool even when you forget who is singing. Oh but yes Perry's voice is wild over this type of music. Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Pinnacle Of Their Style!.......2004-09-26

Being a PS fan since '98 (hooked from their pitchshifter.com album), and also being just a *tad* bit dissapointed with Pitchshifter's last album "Deviant", Im more than happy to announce I am COMPLETELY blown away by this album.

Sadly, Pitchshifter has since disbanded as I write this review, and the members off doing their own things, but Id be lying if I said they didnt go out with a bang on this album. It is, without a doubt, Pitchshifter's ultimate accomplishment, and entirely completes their unique brand of music.

Like many have stated, its somewhat of a melding of the styles from both pitchshifter.com and Deviant, but the result is far more amazing than any could have imagined. The energy is non-stop, the guitars are always riffing like mad, and the drumlines are constantly catchy and rhythmic. The first track "Stop Talking (So Loud)" sets you up with a calm groove at first, almost fooling you into believing this really isnt Pitchshifter. But then it explodes into a fury of drums and riffs, and from that point on its non-stop head-pounding digital metal (closest I can get to putting them into a genre).

Its sad that Pitchshifter is no longer around anymore. I can only hope they get back together, and find a way to trump this utter masterpiece of an album. If you enjoy rock, techno, punk, or drum and bass, and arent a crabby old fart, pick this album up IMMEDIATELY. Check out Pitchshifters other albums too. You will not be dissapointed.

5 out of 5 stars ....shifting into high gear.......2004-05-30

This is my 1st Pitchshifter CD. It definitely will NOT be my last. I like the mix between industrial (lite) and electronics (not overdone). The singing is right on par for the music, and the music is topnotch. The songs flow from one to the next, and each one is worthy of standing on its own. If I had to nail down a favorite, it would probably be Misdirection, but there are 3 or 4 others a half-step behind. If you like this type of music, you wont be disappointed. Lastly, they sound NOTHING like Korn.

when i first heard this song down the first thing i did was obtain a copy of the album to listen to, and ive been listening since. its very easy to get lost in this cd with all the pounding drum and bass, while the guitar just assaults your ears with its ideosynchrocy with the singers voice. if you likes this bands first cd, www.pitchshifter.com, then youll love this album, unless your an idiot of course. but you dont have to hate because your own paltry musicical skills will never compare to this band . jealousy rules us all i understand.

5 out of 5 stars Pretty good!.......2003-06-23

i had my doubts about this band... i am really into industrial and my fav bands are gravity kills, stabbing westward, nin, etc... and well i heard that this band was somewhat industrial and i listened to their song on mortal kombat 2 and i liked it so i bought this cd since it was their newest album... at first i hated it... but in the 2nd listen i realized it was good. i am hoping their other albums r this good

5 out of 5 stars The Ultimate in Metal.......2003-03-20

This CD was recommended to me by a friend. At first, I had speculations seeing as I had never actually heard of them before (gulp). The first track I listened to was of course, Track 1, Stop Talking so Loud. Hmm, I thought. Nice start. Good rhythm. Then good vocals. Then suddenly, from nowhere, the cool little track burst into an huge, insanely heavy chorus. Then, after returning back to the normal side of things, it did it again. Except this time it exploded on for a longer ear-whacking spree.

Then there was track 2. Eight days. Cool start, with the 1234 leading me on to the huge guitar. Catchy, heavy song. The next few songs were also amazing, with MyKind's amazing screaming guitar halfway through.

Track 7 is my personal favourite, with it's speedy rhythm that's amazing in the pits.

PSI is truly a work of sheer talent and love of music. Sadly, Pitchshifter will be no longer, but that's not until the release of their new LIVE ALBUM!!!

      Product Description

This album was recorded in Germany during 1975-76, toward the end of the huge Krautrock revival on the very short-lived UK Psi-Fi label. There is no personnel listed, but the instrumentation is Hammond organ, mellotron, mini-Moog, electric piano, electric guitar, bass and drums. It's one 33 minute track of cosmic rock.

5 out of 5 stars Great stuff for Ash Ra Tempel and Cosmic Jokers fans.......2007-05-13

Pyramid was one of those Krautrock obscurities, so obscure in fact that no one knows who was involved in this band. Apparently released in 1976 privately, with the Pyramid name tagged on during release (since the band apparently didn't have a name). There's a rumor floating about that this was a '90s fake and was actually recorded in London, but that sounds very highly doubtful, as the production and sound is very '70s, plus I'm familiar with the '90s retro-prog scene (that had bands like Änglagård and Sinkadus, and much more recently Wobbler), and despite those groups going for a purely analog approach, I can still tell those were recent recordings, they don't sound completely from the '70s, but Pyramid does. But what can't be denied is the instruments used were guitars, synthesizers, Mellotron, bass, and drums, and that the music is very highly influenced by the likes of Ash Ra Tempel and the Cosmic Jokers. In fact it wasn't recorded too differently from a Cosmic Jokers session: basically based on late night improvisations. And like the Cosmic Jokers, the musicians from Pyramid were not a bunch of kids jamming in their garage who were clueless, these were professional musicians who knew what they were doing. This album is basically one 35 minute piece. I'm glad something like this came out in 1976, after all, the Krautrock scene was now far beyond their underground roots, Ash Ra Tempel was about to become simply Ashra with a more conventional electronic approach, Tangerine Dream was an electronic group (who by this point was still releasing great albums), Kraftwerk was moving more towards electronic pop, Can was now releasing good, but not great albums, and many others turned to more conventional progressive rock, but it's nice to see a group like Pyramid record an album in 1976 that had more in common with the Krautrock scene circa 1971 or '72. Great stuff!

      4 out of 5 stars Pyramid - self-titled (Psi-Fi).......2006-12-31

Another fine sub-underground self-titled krautrock lp recorded in the mid-'70's in Cologne,Germany.Just one track here,a thirty-five minute long mysterous journey into the distant unknown regions of our galaxy.Sounds perhaps like vintage Pink Floyd mating with Faust. No vocals, plenty of well played mini-moog, hammond organ, bass and mellotron can be heard. Must've been disovered in some's attic, sock drawer, stash box, etc. because the personnel for this album on CD reissue isn't known. Right along the lines of Galactic Explorers, Golem, Nazgul and Temple. A keeper. Recommended.

As musicians embrace the possibilities of real-time playing with computer generated and controlled responses and interactions, the notion of the limits and possibilities of traditional instruments will inevitably expand in new directions. As both bass player and software wizard, Adam Linson sets a bench mark for this musical future. He made his debut recording with the ElectroAcoustic Ensemble's latest CD for ECM, The Eleventh Hour. Here is his first solo recording featuring his real time processing and sampling in a new approach to solo bass. Recorded in 2006.
