Songs from the Pink Death is another slice of classic rockspiel from the man with the golden ear. While Kramer's immeasurable talents as a producer and musical director (Bongwater, King Missile, etc.) have overshadowed his abilities as a frontman, it must be said that he is the Groucho Marx of rock & roll. Accompanied here by drummer Damon Krukowki and guitarist Sean Eden, Kramer manifests a subdued persona with obtuse imagery and a lush, melodic wisdom. On "Buddy Holly Will Never Die," he thrashes and wails behind a virtual wall of sound. In keeping with an ongoing Kramer tradition, Lennon and McCartney are given apt tribute with a cover of "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away." With roots in the '60s and '70s, Kramer hits his mark. --Mitch Myers

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Kramer's Third Solo Album.......2000-01-21

Realeased shortly after Shimmy-Disc became affiliated with the Knitting Factory. This is the happiest of Kramer's solo work, to date. The songs are cynical without being bitter. The production is what you would expect from Kramer with an emphasis on the songs.

4 out of 5 stars Intelligence and cynicism with a beat.......1998-11-30

AN excellent follow-up to Kramer's "Secret of Comedy." Another slice of a macabre and dada-esque world. Few albums capture the absurdity that life sometimes offers quite as well as does a Kramer compilation. His lyrical chanting may drive the uninitiated batty- but listen and learn from the master of dark humor.
