I've owned this CD for several years now, and it definitely remains on my short, short list of favorites! The music is beautiful and contemplative, drawing the listener into the journey of migration undertaken by the birds who inspired it. Everything is amazing on it: the writing, the instrumentation, the vocals. This albumn is definitely not just for fans of the movie, but for anyone who loves slow, calming, thoughtful music.

The movie is excellent. The scenery is breathtaking, but you actually feel like you are flying with the geese. Geese are amazing birds. A must see.

Even if you haven't seen the beautiful french documentary, you'll love this soundtrack. The score captivates listeners from the very beginning and the song "To Be By Your Side" by Nick Cave gives the very special mood that the movie requires. Bruno Coulais is the same composer from HIMALAYA, thus you may understand better the sort of music you're listening: half ethnic, half new age and totally haunting. Don't miss it.

Album Description

"How To Be Found" is comprised of previously unreleased tracks, written by dada and mixed by rock industry hearyweights Bob Clearmounton (Springsteen, Bowie) Scott Gordon and Tom Lord. The infectious collection of songs, newly mastered, is classic dada: smart, sharp lyrics, undeniable melodies and incredible musicianship by Joie Calio (vocals, bass), Michael Gurley (vocals, guitar) and Phil Leavitt (drums, vocals). Few Bands endure over a decade of work together. Fewer still, are delivering their strongest performances and material ten years down the road.

Getting a new Dada record is like going back in time and getting a new Beatles album- life changing, confusing, entertaining, a logical development you could never have predicted.
First and foremost, they ROCK here. Real rock. The stuff that makes your feet move, makes babies, creates an impressionistic splash of words and notes that somehow captures a moment, or an emotion, or a person, or is just so freaking COOL that you join in because it feels **SO** good!

Far and away my favorite song here is "What's Happening To Steven", though my second favorite is about a 6 way tie. ("Crumble", "Nothing Like You", "Guitar Girl", "Any Day the Wind Blows", "Reason", "Love Is A Wierd Thing") How good is it? My 10 year old son loved it from the first time he heard it and we sing along with it, (just like we do with "Who You Are" from Puzzle) over and over in the car.

I am in awe of the way Dada construct and then play their songs. Great melodies, Solid drum/bass/guitar sound, a range of tempos, the interplay of the three as they sing together and, usually, a stand-out guitar solo. And they repeat this fetching combination 10-13 times on each album.

Of course, "What's Happening To Steven" NEVER DOES explain what's happening to Steven- but that's part of the charm of it isn't it?

Another helping of the good stuff!

After reading all of the superlative reviews of DADA'S latest release: "How To Be Found"; I find it incredible that these guys are still so relevent musically.I've found myself listening to this CD over, and over and each time finding something in the songs that I had'nt heard before. The last song "Love Is A Weird Thing" is by itself, an example of why I never get tired of listening to these guys. It starts out slow, and then builds to an emotionally charged dynamic ending. All the other reviews are right: DADA are back, and better than ever!

I've seen Dada twice, once back in 94, after the release of American Highway Flower, and again about a year ago. There is no way you can possibly conceive how incredible a guitarist Mike Gurley is simply by listening to their recordings alone. He is phenomenal, and it is beyond me why they have gotten no air play whatsoever, besides Dizz Knee Land and Dim. Gurley is one of the most interesting musicians to listen to--his guitar work will captivate you, and you will be astounded by the sounds he can make with his instrument. If I had to say, "gee, I sure wish I could play guitar like him", I would say it about Gurley, he is by far one of the best. As far as How To Be Found goes, it's very good. Lots of nice rockers, "No one Like You" is an incredible song and "Love is a Weird Thing" is also very good, two of my favorite songs by Dada, and the two standout tracks on this CD. I think this follows nicely along the path Dada has started on since they began recording, and though it's not their best album, take into consideration what they've done before--how could you top albums like American Highway Flower or El Subliminoso?? Those are landmarks in modern rock. All in all, fans should not be disappointed by this album, I wasn't whatsoever. If ever Dada comes to your town, you better go see them--they put on one of the most incredible shows, and I guarantee if you like Dada now, you'll like them ten times more after you experience them live!!!

I've been a fan & have listened to their music since the early 90's. I got all copies of their studio releases but this is the worst to crash in to my collection. It seems the magic's gone...the vocal harmony & catchy guitar lines(how i wish i could play the axe that way!). For starters, I'd recommend "Puzzle" first because for me that's where my addiction to their music started.
To the "greatest roady trio", you got yourself a filipino fan...but my heart just sank on this latest release you had but still...more power to you guys!!!

There was another review here that was quite negative, but it was because she thought she was buying something completely different! Dada has been around since the early nineties, and after a hiatus of sorts, they reformed to produce "How To Be Found". I'll echo what many other reviews and comments here and across the Internet say: dada is the most under-rated power trio of the nineties and now. These guys are musician's musicians! And HTBF is as good as their first album, "Puzzle". If you're new to dada, pick either or both of these albums, then dive into their other releases for more goodness. And if you EVER get a chance to see them live, you MUST go! You will not be disappointed ;-)

        Album Description

        In 1992 dada exploded on the scene with their critically acclaimed debut release "Puzzle" originally released on I.R.S. Records. The single "Dizz Knee Land" set the alternative radio movement (just then hitting it's stride) on fire and quickly migrated to mainstream rock and pop stations. The re-issue of "Puzzle" has been newly remasterd and enhanced and includes 3 bonus tracks (recorded during the "Puzzle" sessions)never before released in the USA. This "Enhanced CD" includes the video of "Here Today, Gone Tommorrow"

        I've always been impressed by good three-piece bands. It's rare for a lead guitarist to have the chops to fill out the sound without a strong backing rhythm player. So when I hear Dada's 'Puzzle' album, with its solid guitar work, backed by competent bass playing and a drummer who is up to the task when guitarist Michael Gurley is really driving him, I enter a beautiful zone. The lush harmonies escalate the feeling. The songs are just amazing - even the simplest ones have the surprising changes, and the kind of structure and flow that define great songwriting. Unfortunately, the flow is interrupted periodically by the crashing intrusion of some truly awful lyrics; not that often, but often enough to keep an otherwise excellent album out of the five-star league. They were youngsters then; I'm pleased to hear they're still working together, and I'm hoping that more recent lyrics reflect some real maturity.

        A Japanese guitarist friend of mine plays Rush and Eric Johnson songs from memory but had never heard of Dada, much less "Puzzle", until now. I lent him the CD over the weekend, giving him a playlist (start with "Dim" (track 9), I said). First thing Monday morning he comes rushing up to me with a big smile on his face. "These guys f*#$ rock", he said with a pumped fist. "I bought all their CDs on Saturday," he added.

        I wonder how many more music lovers in Japan are missing out on the music force that is Dada?!?! I guess it's up to me to educate the country one person at a time. Ganbarimasu!

        I had this as a tape when it first came out and had been looking for it on Itunes- I decided that it was more cost-effective to buy the CD. I love ever song on here- including the bonus tracks that I had not heard before. So glad Amazon had it.

        I purchased this albumn when it came out in 1992, and I still play it on a regular basis today. This is a good filter too - usually it's the truly talented musicians and producers with their own garage studios that own a copy of "Puzzle". It's smart music, and that's what I enjoy the most.

        This CD has it all---a bit of blues, rock, and pop all in one. It sets various moods with sophisticated guitar that is mellow, sometimes angry, and always interesting..... and is a great road trip CD. I am surprised this CD did not sell better. If Da Da ever comes to Orange County, this will be a concert I will definitely go see.

            Album Description

            American Highway Flower released in September 1994, had a harder feel, both musically and lyrically than the band's debut release "Puzzle", reflecting the band's evolution from a studio to a touring band. On this newly remastered re-issue, there are 3 bonus tracks, including the favorite "I'm Feeling Nothing" previously released only on the "Brady Bunch Movie Soundtrack". The track "All American Suicide" has only been released in Japan while "Little Insister" has never been released.

            I didn't know this band back when it came out (although I have heard a song or two before somewhere), I've always stayed pretty close to my favorites from the 60's & 70's for the most part (acid-rock/psychedelic/fusion/prog, etc.). But I do check out new albums here and there on a good recommendation, instinct or just a great price that makes it practically risk free (and I love it when these pan out). For a frickin' penny (the other older edition is selling cheap), the guitar work and great harmony singing alone makes this is a rockin' DEAL! Actually every element is very tight most of the time. Picture Alice In Chains crossed with Rush, throw in some Robben Ford and The Bevis Frond then swirl it around with The Meat Puppets, Tool and a little Led Zeppelin (among other possible influences I hear). Some of it sounds derivative (well what doesn't, especially with newer bands), and actually I was laughing at points realizing how they have thrown the book at every cool influence (and effect) known to stone-age man (rockers), brought it forward and tied it into this nice little package. But that is kind of why I like it. Michael Gurley (guitar) plays a pretty mean (wah/whammy inflected) guitar, and for me, that is reason enough to appreciate this. They have paid attention to what makes a power trio type of band great. Having two fine harmony vocalists is impressive and they utilize it constantly. With 13 songs and not having heard them enough for emotional impact, I'll pass for now on the song by song review (maybe I'll add later). Anyway, very good straight-forward, sometimes butt-kicking rock here for a penny (this version would be a fine deal too if you want the extra tracks, remaster and don't mind spending more - this album is excellent) - I really thought I should let you know (the original version is almost 59 minutes with a nice insert that includes lyrics, with bonus tracks it should be pretty full).

            P.S. - The first album, Puzzle, is very good too but I like this one better at this point. I'd give it a 4 star and this a 4 1/2. Enjoy when you want to check out a prime example of what some great rock evolved into in the 90's (if this is a band you know and love already, you don't need my review, you KNOW this band is lovable - ROCK ON!).

            For those of us old enough to remember this second release from Dada in 1994; it would be hard to think that this new remixed disc could actually be made any better than the origional, but it is! With the hindsight of ten years to think it over, Dada's newly remixed CD includes classic fan favorites like "Ask The Dust", "Scum", "Pretty Girls Make Graves", "Green Henry", "Gogo" and "Feel Me Don't You". The three bonus tracks are fun to listen to, along with the newly re-recorded thirteen songs from 94. The best song "8 Track" is worth the price of this CD alone!
