what more can i say " awesome ".......2007-07-10
let me start by saying i love live music and covers . it's a no lose situation unless they murder the songs . which are not done here .i have every tesla cd , and "into the now" was just as great as "mechanical resonance" . so to come out with a cover album , was a great idea . it's not an album thrown together with filler songs . they had to learn the music , and then to replicate it with minor tweaks .awesome job . the musicianship here is incredible ,and jk could always sing .yea, it's a bummer about cd2 ,but hey ,spend the money and go see em .you'll love it .i've seen em 3 times ,and they rock . "ball of confusion" is my choice for best song here. but it's hard to argue against any of em , the guitar work is downrite NASTY ,"day of the eagle ", "rock bottom" , "walk away " , "stealin'". two thumbs up , a must have . now after this great return of tesla , i hope for a new one to come .
another cover.......2007-07-08
another great cover cd IT is SLICK of them to only make the second half of this set available from the concert (should be made available other ways) what if they do not come near me how am I suposed to get the 2nd half but I must say a brilliant marketing idea
Powerhouse for Day on the Green Lovers!.......2007-07-07
I love this CD! Yeah, you gotta go to the concert to get the second CD, SO WHAT! So you got to go to a rock concert and that pisses you off? Go listen to pop then! I love the concept, because I loved the Tesla sound originally, and have wanted to hear more. I would love to see them in concert and am hoping that they will add the tour dates for Nor Cal. Who is the faithful fan? I'm one I admit. Even though a cover cd, it does remind me of the day long concerts with 5-6 bands playing, the mandatory t-shirt, and the riffs that last for 10 minutes -- how I miss those days!!! Contrary to other reviews I like the vocals and simply love the guitar work on this album, incredible!!! Hope you like it too!
This ain't no cover re-hash!.......2007-07-06
First let me say this. Tesla is a "peoples band". They have always been a band of the people. No compromise, no frills, just musicians that know what blues based rock and roll is all about. Even with their side projects such as Moondog Mane and Bar 7, the band went around the loop of rock, then reformed on the Hear and Now disc, which by the way is a CLASSIC disc.
This disc, made me smile, especially with versions of Bad Reputation by Thin Lizzy and Rock Bottom by UFO. Christ all mighty, if this doesn't make you want to get in your car, and go blow a hole in the wind, while cranked to 10, then you are dead from the neck up.
Can't wait for the tour to venture down San Antonio way, because this cowboy his a ticket buyer! Thanks Guys, for first, recording the disc in my home state. That is right, down El Paso way is where this little gem was brewed up! And for keeping your music and your hearts real. God Bless you and and keep on rockin!
Still remember when you rocked Ector County with Def Leppard and when you headlined with Great White. Memories forever!
Cowboy Craig of the Coastal Bend.
Great CD.......2007-07-06
From start to finish, this CD in my opinion is very enjoyable. I think the band does a great job on most songs and on some like "Thank You" and Bell Bottom Blues, they are outstanding. I've been listening to Tesla since the GRC and I have no problem with another cover album. I would love to hear many of these tunes played live along with all the old favs. Enjoy the Cd for what it is, a great rockin' CD that doesn't quit. See ya the shows.....

Disappointing.......2007-06-14
Wish that I had not purchased it, It is Ok, but not great enough to listen to often
Real Live Roadrunning.......2007-06-08
I have bought 4 copies of this DVD/CD in the past year. Everytime I show it to someone it's obvious how much they like it so I give it to them. Mark and E Lou are terrific but as in the past Mark's band is so professional and talented it just pushes the performance over the top. This band performs more perfectly than many bands perform in a studio. If you like to watch live performances and like Mark just get it and enjoy.
Awesome music.......2007-05-13
This is the best duet couple to come along ever. The songs by Mark Knopfler are wonderful and the band is awesome. Emmylou is at her best and the feel of this concert enhances the enjoyment of watching the DVD. No one will be disappointed in this music.
A wonderful concert.......2007-05-02
The performances on the DVD are masterful. Mark and Emmylou Harris are wonderful. I just wish the video editor was as good as the audio editor, but both of them could use a little more editing. How many times do you have to heaer Mark yelling "Thank you" to the crowd? My guess is about 1/4 of what they left on the DVD. The performances are wonderful. Mark is understated on the guitar and Emmylou is in fine voice. Ignore any comments about an "ordinary voice" from the Amazon editors.
Five For The Price Of One!.......2007-05-02
How can you go wrong?
First, there are some vintage Dire Straits tunes live for the first time.
Second, there is a sample of the Mark Knopfler solo career, including (finally) a great rendition of Speedway at Nazareth.
Third, there is a sample of the Emmylou Harris solo career, like the gripping version of Red Dirt Girl.
Fourth, there are the cuts off the Roadrunning collaboration.
Fifth, there is the endless duet, with Emmylou making Mark's old music new again.
(OK, and then Six there's the great DVD with extra songs that I rarely get a chance to see, but we've only got five stars. So the CD is essential to me!)
This album set is so entertaining just because it has so much ... diversity brought together into one magic concert.
One of my favorites is Done With Bonaparte. I listened to the original on Golden Heart, and it now sounds flat and lifeless in comparison to this live version. It also exemplifies something that happens a lot on this album: Emmylou's harmonies really light up the MK songs. Like Speedway at Nazareth. She even takes over the lead on Why Worry?
So if you are hesitating, thinking you might be taking a chance, Why Worry? This is a real treasure chest of tunes.

Customer Reviews:
Great vocal warmup, especially of breath control, with unique syllabic exercises!.......2007-06-17
I am a piano teacher who also teaches voice, and this CD has been a lifesaver for me, it has helped improve problems with my voice students that
common popular exercises have failed to achieve. The breath control exercises especially have been an enormous help, and my students find them
not only challenging but fun as well. The warmup exercises are a little unique, bringing in tweet, hweet, and unique ways to improve sound production with exercises that combine air production with compression against the lips and teeth. The exercises as a whole help students with the lower register as well as the upper, and effectively improve power without yelling. A great program, I highly recommend!
Enjoyment.......2007-05-20
I haven't had the opportunity to review it for myself. However, my niece in california was so excited to receive this. She said she's enjoying it. She's working on her vocals daily.
great service.......2007-05-13
Came really quickly and just in time! I needed some help warming up for an early morning service I had to sing for and I was hoarse. this really helped.
Good tool.......2007-05-12
I find this material very useful. The teacher makes it feel like you are in actual face to face voice lessons. Technically acceptable.
GREAT INVESTMENT.......2007-03-09
IT COVERS THE BASICS AND THAT'S PERFECT FOR ME. IF YOU ARE MORE ADVANCED AND HAVE HAD PRIOR VOICE LESSONS YOU MAY FIND THIS TO BE TOO SIMPLE TECHNIQUES. I ENJOYED FOLLOWING THE EXERCISES AND REPATING THEM. I WILL DEFINATELY BUY THE NEXT VOLUME. [...]

Among the legions of rockers who died way too young--including Jeff Buckley's father, Tim--few have approached the artistic range and seemingly limitless potential on display here. In the decade since Buckley's death, there has been such a flood of posthumous releases that it might be hard to remember that he issued only a four-cut live EP and a studio debut album while he was alive. This anthology serves as an effective introduction for the initiate, showing how Buckley could rock with the slash-and-burn intensity of Led Zeppelin on "Eternal Life (Road Version)," turn rapturous with the reverie of "Lover, You Should've Come Ove," and cover the likes of Edith Piaf ("Je N'en Connais Pas La Fin") and Leonard Cohen (his by now iconic transformation of "Hallelujah"). Completists will need this for the live versions of "So Real" and the Smiths' "I Know It's Over," previously unreleased commercially. Whether Buckley would ever have been able to balance the control that mature artistry requires and the ecstatic abandon that distinguished him, such raw talent continues to startle. --Don McLeese
Album Description
Import 14-track pressing features tracks from his two studio albums and includes two rarities, 'So Real' (Live and Acoustic in Japan - non album version/ promo single) and 'I Know it's Over' . (Previously Unreleased - Smiths cover from a session at Sony Studios that was edited for broadcast on WNEW on April 6, 1995. It was not included on the radio broadcast.) Other highlights include 'Last Goodbye', 'Forget Her', 'Everybody Here Wants You' and more. All of the tracks lifted from Grace are pulled from the remastered tracks that featured on the Legacy Edition. Sony. 2007.

THE BEST INTRODUCTION TO A GIFTED BUT CHALLENGING ARTIST.......2007-06-01
One of the best things about reviewing music is that it compels the writer to listen hard and fair to everything that comes out of a speaker. If you attempt to write something based solely on your own preconceptions, then a) you aren't listening, and b) you are not qualified to inflict others with your words. Jeff Buckley was the type of artist that I knew had special qualities, but there were elements of his presentation that held me at arm's length. He singing range was extraordinary, but his dramatic tendencies often overwhelmed me. Sometimes, I even found myself recoiling as he floated freely in the ether, conveying a part of his spirit that eluded me entirely. Until I understood this aspect of his art, I knew I was unqualified to review his music, but "So Real: Songs from Jeff Buckley" has taught me how to listen.
The problem I had with most all previous product by Buckley - and I've heard most of them -is that they presumed you to understand Buckley's genius. "Live at Sin-e" "and "Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk" both overwhelmed me, for very different reasons. "...Sin-e" is concise, but it puts Buckley on display as a performer, and left me wondering if he was emotionally attached to the songs, or simply in love with the sound of his own voice. "...Drunk" was an embarrassment of riches, with way too much material for me to digest, especially since most of it was left unfinished in the wake of Buckley's untimely death. Only "Grace" conveyed a full picture of the man as a fully developed artist, and even that record demanded that you understand and accept his strange welding of Van Morrison's spirit with Robert Plant's histrionics.
"So Real" is by far the best place for a person to discover the beauty of Buckley's music. By culling the best bits of his recorded output and distributing them intelligently over one exceptional disk, it serves as a roadmap into the soul of an extremely gifted performer. Parts of this collection are merely brilliant; other parts are revelatory. The "Grace" selections sound every bit as good today as they did back in '94, while songs like "Forget Her" and "Eternal Life" (both from posthumous releases) are frighteningly intense and emotionally stunning. For reasons similar to those I mentioned at the beginning of this review, I recently indulged myself in the music of Leonard Cohen and I now find myself with a respect for his artistry that borders on awe. Re-hearing Buckley's version of Cohen's "Hallelujah" makes it obvious that this is a definitive performance, as if sung by a fallen angel who embraces the sanctity of this mortal coil. There are still moments of excess, but instead of histrionics, I now hear an artist utilizing every ounce of his ability to convey something that is spiritual and ethereal, but also `so real'. I know I waited too long to truly hear the elegance and raw emotion in Jeff Buckley's music. I hope you don't make the same mistake. A- Tom Ryan
Excellent CD for new and old J Buckley fans!!.......2007-05-29
This CD proves again that Jeff Buckley is the greatest musician that has ever recorded music. Not only does this CD give its reader an excellent mixture of some his best tunes but also adds two unreleased songs that are truly rare and excellent in choice. His version of "I Know It's Over" can send chills down anyone's spine and will make you stop and listen to each word. You will find yourself playing this song over and over, realizing what a beautiful voice he had and how he could take any song and make it his own. If you are new to Jeff Buckley and are wondering if this CD is a good choice, it does a wonderful job of introducing you to a rare talent that has yet to be mastered from anyone else in the music industry. And if you are new, after this CD, you will definitely become a Jeff Buckley fan. To the already Jeff Buckley fan, I highly recommend it and believe me, it is NOT a waste of money - it is worth every penny and more!
So Real Quite a Gem.......2007-05-27
It has been said this CD is especially good for newbies discovering Jeff Buckley's music. That would include me, as I only discovered Buckley and his music a few months ago. I heard my first Buckley song 'Hallelujah' on a TV show, since then I have bought everything I could get my hands on that Buckley recorded. For those of you who think, it is just the same old thing, don't buy it, but thank goodness his music is still being put out there for all of us like me who have only just discovered Jeff Buckley. I thank his mom and Sony for continuing their hard work to get his music to the public. I counted the days waiting for this CD to be released. It is just as wonderful as I hoped it would be. SO REAL is worth every penny and more, especially for 'I KNOW IT'S OVER'. That song is quite a gem.
Here we go again........2007-05-27
The same old songs regurgitated once more so Mary Guibert can make another quick buck off of the talent of her dead son. For shame.

Will the real Slim Shady please stand up? On Eminem's sophomore album, he can't decide who he wants to be: the deranged pseudo-psycho of the Slim Shady LP, or a nice guy who just likes to rhyme about slicing and dicing his girlfriend ("Kim"). Of course, according to Eminem, he's just kidding. He refuses to take responsibility for the misogynistic, homophobic bile he spews, whining that he's the victim of people who don't get his unique sense of humor. It's good old America's fault if the kids aren't alright (Eminem blames bad parenting), and he's just capitalizing on Uncle Sam's dark side. On the Marshall Mathers LP, he's ambivalent about his fame, angry at his life, pissed off that people take him seriously, and fightin' mad at boy bands--and a lot of other white people. But the blue-eyed brat is acutely aware of his status as rap's resident alien: he has the most offensive mouth running, but never uses the "N" word. He gives lyrical love to tragic (black) legends like Tupac and Biggie while dissing white rappers hard. Even sitting duck Puffy gets the kid-gloves treatment. Of course, Eminem is an interesting, witty rapper, and there's some nice production on this CD, courtesy of Dr. Dre and others. But the hatred in Eminem's rhymes makes the album rotten at its core. And his protests that Slim Shady is just a persona become less convincing with each arrest. Then again, Eminem's got it hard: he's rich, famous, white, and male. --Lizz Mendez Berry

Shock value...........2007-07-09
If you actually listen, you'll find that he is one of the most talented MC's in the game currently. Very deep as you get past the initial shock of his dramatic flows.
Solid Sophmore Set.......2007-06-26
Worthy follow up to the Slim Shady LP. In this disc, Em goes back to his roots in some tracks, but also talks about life now that he's made it. All the writing strength is still there, and the guy still flows great. Good raps:
Stan - excellent, almost chilling, rap about the pyschology of an obsessed fan who progressively comes unglued when Em doesn't answer his fan mail right away. The chorus from Dido's tune is excellently woven into the rap. Very grim ending. Em's critics couldn't write anything this insightful
Who Knew - good, sarcastic examination of critics who blame music for some wacko's actions.
The WAy I Am - Em gets off his chest frustrations of being famous and never getting a second's privacy from fans who never think maybe he likes to be let alone once in a while.
The REal Slim Shady - very bouncy, catchy rhythm and lyrics. Got lots of radio and video play
Remember Me? - hardcore rapl Em gets to yelling in it. Features other rappers. Very heavy
I'm BAck - Em is back, again knocks/mocks people who blame him for others' actions. Kinda slow and slurry at times, like a record being dragged
Amityville - very heavy, Em yelling in this one too
The Kids - funny rap w/South Park references. Would be lighthearted, except people wind up meeting bad ends.
Criminal - another rap aimed at people who blame Em for violence
A rapper even a white lady and mother can love!.......2007-04-27
Eminem is one cool white boy poet among rappers! Over the past few years, I've been avoiding these 'in your face','woman hater',nasty rapper boys and their songs. I'd heard the stock stuff that's been the popular rap fare on the radio, and saw my 'innocent' young boys (my sons, age 12 and 10) rocking to it, intoning the lyrics along with the nasty boy on the air at that moment: "shut up b...ch', 'I'm gonna slap you, h.!', etc. blah blah blah. I would inwardly frown, and try to keep my 'wet blanket' hostile attitude to myself! After all, I fancied myself a 'modern' Mom, who'd let her boys decide for themselves what music they like. I wasn't afraid it would 'turn them into' angry girl-haters or street thugs. I knew, and still believe, that, when they see a Mom who respects their freedom to hear whatever they like (ok, with a few lines in the sand, when they go totally overboard), and come to the best decison about women, violence, rebellion, and all!
The key turning point, that made me decide to tune into Eminem, and see whether he actually has something good to offer with his stuff, that maybe, just maybe, has passion, soul, and POWER,(as any song that's heavy on sex and violence inevitably MUST also have, or else it becomes truly just angry junk food music), was my viewing of the movie "Scary Movie 3". Specifically, when I saw the white 'farm boy' rapper, who my boys told me was actually a parody of EMINEM, do his priceless 'rap' contest performance, then, I thought....This is totally cool! Let's buy an Eminem CD, and check out the boy!
Well, it only took one spin of Tracks 1,2, and 3,(and one or two later tracks, with a twist on the same themes as the first 3 songs), with their amazing powerful tongue-in-cheek, SLAMMINGLY effective, simultaneous parody of self (Mr. Slim Shady),and the 'ladies' (girlfriend, husband-blaming, wallowing in victimhood, mother, who he wants to 'f..', or bossy ladies on the warpath, or music executives who want to 'silence' his music's soul, cause it's too full of anger at their greed and jaded materialism, and so tell him in bored, whiny voices to try to write stuff that 'sells'), to fall in love with this POET EXTRAORDINAIRE, and his lyrics, which do some heavy duty spittin' on ladies (and men), but also can end with a softly spoken, sweet "I'm just foolin' ladies! You know I love you". I knew at once that this young man moved me, and that he spoke to me as well as to the boys groovin' to his beat and his poetic honest, no b.s., lyrics!
THIS IS ONE GENIUS THAT SHOWS WHAT RAP AT ITS BEST CAN BE, AND I AM HOOKED. I do laugh and shake my head, and cringe at times, when EMINEM spits out one or another line about his g.f. tied up in the trunk! But I also can't help but privately rock myself, and 'rap' with him, and say, keep on rocking Mr. Slim Shady...You got a soul, and you keep on sharing it with your generation, mine, and my kids' !!
CLASSIC.......2007-04-07
When i first heard this album back in 2000 it was out of this world,i listin to the album the other day and it just sounds as fresh as it does today.I have to give a big thumbs up to DR DRE as he created most of the beats and backing music for this album, and produced it.As is all of DRE,S producing from past to present its top notch, big ups to EMINEM and DR DRE,i even own the EMINEM license plate in new zealand as when i purchased the plate back in 99 the operator said who or what is that never heard of him,how times change, come on EM get back with DRE and try and produced another album like this. Its your best.
Hip Hop Masterpiece.......2007-04-06
with out a though eminem is one of the most vicious battle rappers to step into the game, his sadistic sence of humor, lack of moral, and split personalities help boost him to legendary status within years. this album is the highlight of his battle rapping career. from will smith to Insane clown posse. eminem lets it all hang out. althouhg his album doesnt touch the bases of horrorcore, the vulgarity level gives that feel. this guy was so raw they actually cut off n replaced over 10 versese. hate em or love him any true hip hop fan, can see the revolution in which took place here. besides 2 pac, eminem spoke the truth in every detail.

Sara Evans began basic and earthy on her 1997 debut, Three Chords and the Truth-- only to U-turn into poppish, radio-friendly, late-'90s fare that expanded her popularity. Then, in 2003, she swerved back to raw traditionalism on Restless, which showcased her edgy, in-your-face hit "Suds in the Bucket." Evans stays that course on Real Fine Place, with straightahead, earthy production values and first-rate material, including Sheryl Crow's "Roll Me Back in Time" and the title tune, cowritten by Radney Foster and George Ducas. She conjures the perfect mixture of pain and indignation on "Cheatin'," and projects warmth on the parenthood tale "You'll Always Be My Baby." Her stately rendition of Lori McKenna's "Bible Song" magnifies its dark slice-of-life lyrics. Evans cowrote six of the numbers, including the party anthem "Momma's Night Out" and "These Four Walls," an affirmation of domestic pride written with her brother Matt. Granted, her earthy and frothy sides each have their partisans. Even so, high standards remain a constant on all her albums. This one's no exception. --Rich Kienzle

Fine Album.......2007-07-02
This, Sara's 5th album, is a strong 4 stars, not quite 5 tho. It has a number of songs on it that now seem kind of ironical given her current family problems, but that wasn't her intent at all nor should it influence consideration of the music. This album continues more or less in the "Restless" vein, being perhaps a bit less poppy. Definitely mainstream country. Notable stuff:
Coalmine - ode to working class hubby
Real Fine Place - has energy and spirit
Cheatin' - funny lyrics about how a cheatin' man is getting comeupance from life while the woman enjoys herself for once
Supernatural
Roll Me BAck in Time - lover chases Hollywood fame rather than his beloved
Bible Song - has a good, moving story about singer's cousin who commits suicide and its effect on loved ones
Missing Missouri - nice salute to home state and family
Momma's Night Out - uptempo and spunky. The wife/mom is gonna hit the town with the girls and leave domestic stuff to hubby.
Real Fine Place-Sweet!.......2007-05-08
Sara Evans throws a CD into a fire. What comes out...PERFECT! Her voice is so sexy you have pay attention. What a voice! Gif.
SARA'S DONE IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!! .......2007-02-24
THIS CD IS AWESOME!!!! I LOVE EVERY TRACK!!! SARA'S VOICE IS LIKE NO OTHER. BUY THIS YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!!
Real Fine Place.......2007-02-05
I loved Sara Evans's album "Restless"...I still love listening to it to this day! So I had great expectations for "Real Fine Place," just like anybody who heard "Restless" would. When I finally got "Real Fine Place," I liked a few of the songs...but not too many of them got my attention and got me to listen to the whole song, whereas on "Restless" I could just pick a song and listen to the whole thing. My favorite song on this album is "Roll Me Back In Time" because it's written by Sheryl Crow and it sounds great. Other highlights are "A Real Fine Place To Start," "Cheatin'," "You'll Always Be My Baby," "Supernatural," and "Bible Song."
I look forward to Sara's next album, hoping that she will go back to the eras of "Born To Fly" and "Restless."
Real Fine Place.......2007-01-13
I like Sara Evans and her music. I don't give 5 stars to too many things.

Richard Rodgers always considered Carousel his favorite score, even though it didn't generate the number of popular hits of some of the other shows he produced with lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II. Their adaptation of the Ferenc Molnar play Liliom is marked by three especially sublime moments. "The Carousel Waltz," Rodgers's alternative to the traditional Broadway overture, serves as an orchestral backdrop to the opening scene and is one of the best miniatures ever written for the theater. "If I Loved You," which establishes the romance of carnival barker Billy Bigelow (Gordon MacRae, a late replacement for Frank Sinatra) and nice girl Julie Jordan (Shirley Jones), is a musical minidrama in which the pair's discussion of how they are not in love reveals just how much they are in love. "Soliloquy" is Billy's powerful solo that foreshadows the action to come in Act II. Add the inspirational anthem "You'll Never Walk Alone," and you have Rodgers and Hammerstein's most extraordinary, near-operatic score. On the soundtrack for the 1956 film, MacRae and Jones are in exceptional voice (following their success in 1955's Oklahoma) and the orchestra sounds glorious, but unfortunately some of the numbers were shortened, most notably "If I Loved You." Extensive production notes, an interview with Jones, and a synopsis are included. --David Horiuchi

LOVE SOUND TRACTS FROM OLD MOVIES - SING ALONGS AND THE BEST ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE TRAVELING AND CAN SING LOUD. IT IS A KEEPER
MacRae and Jones soar in this tragic R&H musical.......2007-02-11
This film adaptation of Carousel came shortly after the Oklahoma! film and reunited Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones. Although the film was not well-received at the box office, the soundtrack shows MacRae, Jones and the superb cast performing their roles to their heart's content. Their performance helps bring out the pathos in this tragic R&H musical, which Rodgers himself considered his favourite of all his works.
MacRae shines vocally as Billy Bigelow, bringing an open-hearted musicality and sincerity to his stout-hearted portrayal. MacRae stands out in Billy's pivotal Soliloquy, which some reviewers have considered one of the finest vocal performances of the 20th century. He is well-partnered by Shirley Jones, who lends her tender voice and personality to her portrayal as Julie. Listen to the chemistry they exude during the pivotal If I Loved You duet, as if they're overcoming their shyness and drawing sustenance from each other with their love. The supporting cast also gives its all in performing their roles. Claramae Turner's hearty Nettie brims with sincerity, warmth and tenderness, and she leads a rousing rendition of June is Bustin' Out All Over and renders You'll Never Walk Alone touchingly. Barbara Ruick and Robert Rounseville are superb as Carrie and Mr. Snow, although I admit I would have liked a little more humour. I also admit I would have liked Cameron Mitchell as Jigger to sound more sinister, like Fisher Stevens did in the 1994 Broadway revival recording. But even as it is, everyone sings gloriously and is given sumptuous backing from Alfred Newman's superb arrangements and the 20th-Century Fox Orchestra, when it shines out in the ballets.
If I'm adding to the praise of these critic-proof performance, you'll wonder, why am I giving only 4 stars? Well, it's because the extra sound effects from the unreleased sequences tend to jar after a while. I know some of you are complaining that the dance sequences are plagued by extraneous sound effects and noise. I share the same feelings too and also wish that the producers had utilised the original studio pre-recordings for a sumptuous listening experience. However, let us at least be grateful that Didier Deutsch and his production team have made these unreleased sequences available on a soundtrack CD reissue. At least it's a step in the right direction before the entire canon of R&H film soundtracks (yes, including South Pacific and The Sound of Music) gets its due as deluxe 2-CD sets, complete with underscore.
However, don't let this gripe dissuade you from buying this soundtrack. It offers a complete musical experience that one could only dream of in the previous CD reissues of the soundtrack. And it demonstrates the element that Rodgers & Hammerstein were discovering in their musicals.
Great Music.......2007-01-04
Rogers and Hammerstein were in a different league when it came to writing musicals. Their music, lyrics and story are never alike. These two partners were exceptional and their music shows it. Carousel is a tragic story but also shows that human nature can rise above adversity. The music is wonderful and the characters believable. A great movie.
Response to David Pabian's review below.......2004-06-30
Response to David Pabian's review:
My review was not in error, as Mr. Pabian expects. The review was for the original CD release, not this expanded version. Amazon lifted it out of that spot and dropped it here, which of course makes it anachronistic. Why they did it without reading it is certainly an inept decision.
Gummed up an Original.......2003-06-10
This overblown "completeitis" has got to stop. The original soundtrack album Carousel Waltz is now relegated to Appendix status, and terrible sonics accompany dancers' footstomping in the "new" expanded musical sequences, taken directly from the soundtrack rather than from still-existing musical tracks. There was a reason soundtrack recordings were studio performances. The proportions were right, the timings were correct for an overall BALANCED listening experience. These gawdawful expanded editions, often with dialogue thrown in, completely throw off those balances. An argument might be made for expanded sequences appropriate to a CDs longer playing time than the standard L.P. 45min., but possibly only if those sequences are from their original studio-recorded, pre release-print mix -- which could have easily been done in this case. A quick word on one of the above reviews: This is not the first time the complete Carousel Waltz is heard in stereo. There were two previous CD remasterings of the original soundtrack whereon it was included. And the reprise of "If I loved You" was part of every soundtrack release, mono and stereo.

Originally released in 2004 on a small So-Cal indie label, Say Anything's ...Is A Real Boy has stood the test of time thanks to its universal themes and whopper punk hooks. Emo in name only, it is a disc that veers far away from the genre's typical navel-gazing lyrics and shines its light on the trappings of rock stardom, taking on everything from groupies to music snobs in no-nonsense songs like "An Orgy of Critics" and "Every Man Has A Molly." Max Bemis may not be a great singer but he's a great frontman, channeling his well-publicized struggles with bipolar disorder into songs that ring with defiance. This package includes a bonus second disc that includes seven new Say Anything tracks, a number of which delve even deeper into Bemis' psychiatric troubles, plus the somewhat self-explanatory "I Will Never Write An Obligatory Song About Being On The Road And Missing Someone." --Aidin Vaziri
Album Description
This version contains a bonus disc with seven unreleased tracks.

Disappointed.......2007-06-15
After loving "Alive with the Glory of Love" I was so disappointed. The rest of the songs are completely forgetable. This album is trying way too hard. They want to sound original and put everyone else down for watching MTV or liking some mainstream bands but they are completely unconvincing as the new independent-thinking band. They even have a whole song (Admit It!!!)about how much everyone else is a sellout and poser while they're all the real deal.Give me a break.Would it kill Say Anything to write real songs? The lyrics suck.No creativity. Some songs start out decent and completely diminish.Unlike my favorite band(My Chemical Romance)they can't keep the song from dying. The are exactly who they claim they hate. They look down on everyone. If I didn't think A.W.T.G.O.L. was such a creative and breakthrough song I would give it one star.
say what?.......2007-06-09
when i first heard say anything, it was the video for the song "alive with the glory of love", which i liked. as i went on to listen to more songs, i just wasn't feeling it at all...not one bit
but somewhere throughout not feeling it, i began to feel it=), it just took awhile, i am sure we've all had albums like that, where at first you hate it then you end up loving it almost as much as yr mother.
well, i am not going to try and write an award winning review here, other than saying you need to get this record, being a musician myself, this album has inspired me on so many levels. i feel max bemis is onto something, and i can't stop listening to this stuff...find all of their ep's and misc recordings if you can too...appreciate say anything as a whole, from beginning to present...it's worth it...
at the moment, my fav track is "yellow cat/red cat"...i really feel that song is brilliant, and it makes me wish i would have written it...
thanks for reading my uninteresting but hopefully convincing review=)
What an amazing CD!.......2007-05-28
I hadn't heard of this group before this last weekend until a friend of mine made me listen to "Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too." I didn't really like the song all that much, kinda strange lyrics, but it was catchy, so I ended up downloading it off iTunes.
After listening to the rest of ...Is A Real Boy, I was hooked. They haven't left my car CD player, and they've been playing constantly on iTunes.
Some of my favorites are:
The Writhing South
Yellow Cat/Red Cat
Every Man Has A Molly
I Want to Know Your Plans
and
Admit It!!!
I'd label Say Anything and this CD of theirs as addictive. Each song is amazing in its own way. Buy this album, you won't regret it.
Who gave these guys a record deal?.......2007-04-09
I saw their video for "WoW, I can get sexual too."
This could very well be the lamest band of all time.
Words can't explain how good this album is.... but I'll try.......2007-01-04
1. belt- 10/10 Great rockin intro and funky pre-chorus with a great pseudo answer/call ending
2. woe- 10/10 Cheeky with an excellent rhythm/backbeat breakdown. Climaxes with a soaring, stratospheric bridge that finally, gently leads you to the song's conclusion.
3. the writhing south- 10/10 Fantastic lyrical imagery and a fun sing-along chorus. High energy bridge is like sticking your finger into a electrical outlet.
4. alive with the glory of love- 10/10 Best known song on the album and the reason you've found this review. Not much to say that you don't already know.
5. yellow cat/red cat- 10/10 I love the bass guitar in this song. The drags on the drums add to the "laziness" that the lyrics convey. Also, the girl in the chorus sounds pretty cute.
6. the futile- 10/10 Some of my favorite grab-your-attention lyrics on the album. Great melody. More hooks than the Bass Pro Shop.
7. spidersong- 8/10 Not my favorite on the album, but Max's sigh at the end makes the song.
8. an orgy of critics- 10/10 So high energy, it's like sticking your fingers in BOTH outlets.
9. every man has a molly- 10/10 Great intro lyrics and melody. Almost like a great drinking song.
10. slowly, through a vector- 9/10 A little meandering at the beginning, but I love the last minute or so if it.
11. chia like, i shall grow- 10/10 Chia like, this song will grow on you.
12. i want to know your plans- 10/10 The concertina reminds me of some poor sailor thinking of that one special girl. Sappy, but it works.
13. admit it!- 10/10 A sledgehammer of lyrics straight to the face of all things fashionable and pretentious. It makes you want to get off your duff and just enjoy your life. This track is the best possible way to close the album.
There has been only one other album that I've liked this much on a first listen, and that was weezer's blue album back in 94. You won't regret giving Say Anything a chance. Amazing, amazing, amazing.

The real deal is that this is not so much a hits package as a hyped collection of songs that made the charts, album tracks, and rarities like Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Pipeline" duet with surf-rock king Dick Dale. (At least SRV completists no longer have to buy the God-awful Back to the Beach soundtrack.) Blending blues classics, rockers, and instrumentals was a signature of Vaughan's sets, but it doesn't work for these 16 tunes. Lesser numbers like "Empty Arms," "Shake for Me," and "Wall of Denial" seem filler between thrillers like "Telephone Song," "Scuttle Buttin'," and a version of "Leave My Girl Alone" that had been available only on a promotional CD. Remember, Vaughan's recording career lasted seven years--too short a time to merit two hits discs. Yet his guitar acrobatics and gut-deep vocal testimonials are never less than satisfying. --Ted Drozdowski

SRV Review.......2007-02-08
Well, I guess if your a real fan of SRV, then you will love this. I am new to his music, and although he is obviously an accomplished muso, it was not quite what I wanted. It has not sold me on him, but he does have a couple of good tracks. Maybe just not for me.I will not purchase any more SRV if this is representative of his work

If you are a fan this is a great compilation! The last two tracks, Voodoo Chile and Life by the Drop, are worth the price of admission.
Warning! There are so many notes and cool sounds flying out of Voodoo Chile that you may be injured. Enjoy!
Best introductory SRV.......2006-10-06
If you are new to SRV and looking for a great sample of his best work, this is the album for you. Selections are among the most intense blues ever to burn from SRV's guitar. The recording quality is top notch - including the live cuts.
Blues Done Right.......2005-12-07
Stevie Ray Vaughan was getting better by the year, never playing the same song quite the same way twice. He was the best of his kind.King of texas blues.Mr.Vaughan came to a tragic ending in a plane crash after fighting a life threatning drug addiction.Such an abrupt end for such an amazing person.
Two greatist hits were then released. This is Vol.2 you'd assume to get lackluster songs not quite as big as the glowing presence of Vol.1.If that is what you're guessing you're off(WAY OFF).Overall i think this is a much better interpratation of Mr.Vaughans true capabilities."Scuttle Buttin'" is a fast and short song resulting in an almost Van Halen "Eruption" solo feeling.Stevies accesability to make a song his own shows in a Jimi Hendrix song"Voodoo Chile"(later shown in 2001's "Black Hawk Down")as he did with The Beatles "Taxman" on the first vol..
Mr.Vaughans vocals are raspy and low and energetic. If you ever seen him live you'd know how much soul he poured into each performance. His beat up guitar is a trade mark. You will be able to hear this aura in the live tracks like "Shake For Me" and "Superstation".A crowd favorite "Lenny" is on the album, but not live.
Sixteen of Mr.Vaughans amazing songs shine hear and is worth more then what is asked for.

Music in the Liquid Mind series changes little from one recording to the next--good news for contented fans of the long-running bliss-out series created by keyboardist/composer Chuck Wild. The former Missing Persons keyboardist and studio colleague of famed producer Ken Scott (David Bowie, Supertramp) has evolved into a premier space-music specialist whose relaxing, gentle soundscapes artfully evoke the softer side of the cosmos. His eighth Liquid Mind installment, subtitled Sleep, is a lovely, slo-mo spacewalk through serene, gravity-free realms that consistently yields a sustained sense of well-being and calm. Deserving of a spot at the head table with ambient music's most sophisticated sound designers, Wild creates slowly unfolding, universe-at-rest textures using few of the supplemental sonic dimensions (space winds, angelic voices) often employed by fellow stargazers Jonn Serrie and Jon Jenkins. And he sidesteps the small dramas and mysterious fractals that sometimes add a hint of uncertainty to the otherwise like-minded works of Brian Eno or Harold Budd. Happily, you'll hear no new-agey crystal bowls or plucked harps, either; just a warm, resonant, faintly classical glow skillfully designed for relaxation and peace. Pull up a cloud, lie back, and enjoy. --Terry Wood

Drift consciously into sleep without realizing it........2007-06-27
Liquid Mind music is truly universal. And while I may not be able to name which album a certain piece comes from; the music on each CD seems to encourage the feeling or state of mind named in the title. This album, Sleep, does help me drift of to sleep. The other albums, likewise, support Meditation, lifting of the Spirit, and other states of mind. Perhaps they are inter-changeable; in any event, this album's selections help me relax and prepare for sleep.
Perfect for napping.......2007-05-18
Some new age music albums get it; some don't. I do not buy new age music to hear third rate melodies (that quickly become annoying), annoying beats and clicks, drumming, chanting, etc. I buy it to help me relax and chill out. Sometimes I use it to filter out noise from outside my home or in my office. Sometimes I use it to help me sleep. Good sleep music should lull - it shouldn't demand attention. It should draw you in enough so that you will stop fretting about your problems at work or at home but not so much that your mind is anticipating a predictable melodic pattern. Liquid Mind has figured out how to do what new age music should do. This album has gently changing tones that ease in and out, cascade, and encircle the listener. Think of it as pleasant white noise. This is definitely sleep inducing. If you feel like youa re sleep deprived but are too wired to nap, put this on your headphones and just listen. You won't be able to focus on any sound in particular - there is enough shifting to keep you from doing that. But you will find yourself being lulled into dreamland. Very good.
Really helps put me to sleep.......2007-05-07
I have no trouble staying asleep, but for years I've struggled to fall asleep. I've used several relaxing CDs, some commercial and some I've put together myself. Most of them helped, but eventually they had less effect, so I changed to another one for a few months. I started using Liquid Mind VIII recently, and it has easily been the most effective sleep CD I've used. Most nights I'm asleep by the fourth or fifth track (15-20 minutes, which is very good for me).
Other than the obvious fact that the music is fairly nondescript and very soothing, I don't know why it works so well, but it does.
Highly recommended if you have problems falling asleep.
Definitely makes you drowsyzzz zzzzz zzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.......2007-04-21
I happened to hear this on XM Radio in the car. Oh my goodness. This is not the thing to be listening to while driving. I happened to have on the Vision (New Age music) channel and this came on in broad noon daylight as I was running some errands. Within minutes, I was as calm as a lake on a windless day and heading for nod-off time. Change the channel..but quick, make a note of the album.
I tried it (safely) at home. It has a warning; do not operate machinery or drive while listening to this cd. It does really work. I put it in the cd player in my alarm clock and put it on low before I went to bed. I think I fell asleep in 4 minutes.
The trick is the slow tempo. The music is almost complete phrases, no discernable tune but also not simply noises that sound spacey.
If you want something effective to calm yourself during yoga, to sleep to or to calm a fussy baby or put down the toddlers, this is it. Zzzzzz
Heaven.......2007-03-09
The sounds are what I think heavens angels would play for you. I love it! Relaxed me. Have to stop the cd when alarms goes off or I will over sleep. Enjoyment for the soul!
