I am but one small instrument...........2007-04-15
Is there anyone that does not like Jimmy Eat World? Surely they are one of the greatest bands of our time.. and this is my favorite of their albums. I think most everything has already been said here.. but I will just mention that this is probably the most experimental and unique of their work(drum machine and lots of violins). They simply dont do songs like this anymore. Nothing wrong with that, just know that this is a step out of place for J.E.W.
Hypnotizing.......2007-03-19
The slower songs are so hypnotic, the vocal harmonies put me to sleep but in a good way, i guess i should say its relaxing. Lucky Denver Mint, Your new asthetic, and beleive in what you want stand out. I like the faster songs better when i'm feeling impatient, but the slower songs have a place too. A lot of later bands copied or were at least influenced by this sound.
must hear; beautiful music.......2007-03-02
OH god emo!! Yes, it is a genre that connotes excruciating sonic pain; just hearing that word makes one want to become an emo serial killer. But, music is music brother, and this is darn good music, regardless of the lame stigma. Don't accept the label!
Clairity is catchy pop rock, and much more. It's full of moving beautiful melodies and great harmonies, lyrics that are meaningful, progressions that are thoughtfull, and generally touching songs; none of that screaming crap either.
The instrumentation is not in any way bland; they don't display tremendous technical prowess, but it's perfectly pretty and layered quite well; enough to keep one interested. It's not cookie cutter pop music.
It's very well produced, and after listening to it 1 or 2 times, you will begin to understand why all the hype.
After years this record still evokes feelings. Highly recommended.
Decent.......2007-01-18
This CD isnt the best, JEW gets better and better. Get bleed america and futures - they are the bomb. This CD does have its moments though.
One of the most influential albums of my life........2007-01-11
Music is relative so I can't say whether you'd like it or not, but if your a lyric lover this albums for you!

Mozart effective.......2007-04-07
I love classical music, bought this for my child who has attention difficulties, he enjoys hearing it in the background as he completes his homework assignments.
Mozart is #1!.......2007-02-20
I tried this cd when I studied for math and physics to improve my grades and it sounds kind of crazy but the very first time I listened to this about a week before my trigonometry exam, I made the highest grade on it than ever before. There is something truley amazing with these volumes of the mozart effect, im going to get volumes 1-5 because it really helps me with math. I actually look forward to doing my math homework now..its brilliant! One of my favorite songs out all the albums is on this one..its song #3 on the focus cd,its awesome! Preview it and you will see what I mean.
must have for ADHD.......2006-03-09
I ordered this cd set for both my son and husband who have ADHD. It absolutely has a calming effect on both. My husband has the cd on his IPOD and sleeps through the night. My son listens to the cds while doing homework and to fall asleep.
If you have a child w/ADD/ADHD, this cd set is worth a try.

A melodic metal masterpiece, and one of the best metal albums of 2006.......2007-06-27
Two words: simply stunning! This album was a turning point for In Flames, as it is the first to feature and emphasize Anders singing abilities from start to finish. Anders has a very distinctive voice, one that can range from death metal/cookie monster growls, screams, and singing. He is, undoubtedly, one of the most poignant and powerful frontmen in metal today. The guitar work between Jesper and Bjorn is fantastic with plenty o' harmonized riffs and solos galore, and incredible drum work by Daniel Svensson. The more I listen to this album, the more I am amazed by it. Many fans of their early work may not get or like this album because of the new direction they decided to take on it, but this is one of the few Gothenberg metal bands that continues to progress for the better. Too bad I can't say the same for Soilwork.
Awesome CD.......2007-06-22

Perfect! Absolutely Perfect.......2007-06-20
People seem to think because this is the same band, but they have changed their playing style, that this CD sucks. That is completely not true! In Flames changed quite a bit. Lunar Strain was their first cd, I agree that it was a great cd. Then came The Jester Race, Their best by far with Moonshield and the album titled The Jester Race. TJR was a great album in which they really strived for an ethereal feel. Then came Whoracle, was a great CD in which they (In Flames) expiremented with a new sound of more metal riffs and just basically more perfection. Then came Colony. Colony was a great cd with those heavy melodic riffs that In Flames is known for. With introduction of the keyboards and "speaking" lyrics added ALOT more to In Flames. After Colony came Clayman. Clayman wasnt one of my favorites because it was more of a step backwards from Colony, still more melodic metal. Then the CD which really shaped In Flames into what they are today, Reroute to Remain. With melodic, very heavy metal, with introduction of chorus in almost every song, this made this CD a killer. This is where people start saying In Flames SUCKS. In Flames, does not SUCK in any one of their CD's, its called expirementing. Anyways...Reroute to Remain was more of a down to earth view of human problems. Instead of thinking of space, and the meaning of everything, In Flames started focusing on what makes the humans and their universe around them tick. The song "Black & White" explains the differences between good and bad, saying that "there is no room for two, the scale might be wide, but there is no need to be blind, between black and white, there is no room for two". This really emphesizes the idea of the connection between humans and the universe. In the album Soundtrack to Your Escape In Flames, still focused on human imperfection and relations, really used the keyboards and heavier riffs. Songs like "My Sweet Shadow", "Evil In A Closet", and "Dead Alone" were really the killer songs in the album, some of my favorites. Some people say StYE is their (In Flames) weakest album. I do not agree, and say Clayman is their weakest. StYE was just more of a change to the "dark" side, it may sound weird, but the dark side focusing on the bad things and being hurt. And Finally, and lastly, Come Clarity. So much to say about this album. This was my first ever In Flames CD. I think this is their second best next to The Jester Race because of the pounding drums and the lower octave of the bass. In Flames still has that old sound and epicness to them, but with a new, more modern feel. Songs like "Leeches", "Reflect The Storm", "Come Clarity", and "Crawl Through Knives" really stuck out to me showing me the hurting side of things. Come Clarity is a CD about hurting...being left out, and not being heard. The biggest human struggles of all right now. Depression, and not being heard. This CD really helped me get through some bad times. If there was one million stars on the chart, this CD wouldnt even be on there. Come Clarity is just a masterpiece of modern metal and melodic Gothenburg metal. There arent many keyboards in Come Clarity, but more talent. I feel this cd was only second best to The Jester Race because of the complexity to The Jester Race. The best closing i have ever heard was on Come Clarity. "Your Bedtime Story is Scaring Everyone" Is the perfect ender to a near perfect CD. Come Clarity is definately going to be one of those CD's i hold with me to the grave.
Some people are stupid........2007-04-03
While admitedly better than their last two disgraces, this album still does not even come close to their epics, The Jester Race and Whoracle (especially the former). I understand why many-a-youngin' would be blown away by these guys. If only your first exposure to In Flames had been when they released those two albums, you would understand. Seriously, what happened to Anders' voice?? I guess he thrashed it out too early in his career, like many up-and-comers. And those "solos?" The solo in "Trigger" gave my friends and I nights and nights of nonstop laughter!) Where is the epic storytelling we saw in the early days. Instead of focusing on making an album full of various singles, as they do now, they were releasing themed, yet NOT cheesy. Bjorn should have stayed on drums. And they really, REALLY need Glenn back on lead. No offense to Jesper, because when those two worked together, the result was absolute magic.
I wish I could give the younger generation some advice as to how they could truly appreciate this band, but unfortunately they were just born too late. The era of 1995-1998 was the peak of metal, but the so-called "metalheads" of today probably have too much black dye in their hair to notice. I guess my only advice would be to read some interviews with In Flames, and go listen to the bands they used to listen to. Or just go buy At the Gates, Slaughter of the Soul (the "originators" and grand-daddys of the Swedish/Metlodic death metal sound). Although at this point, I'm will to bet you wouldn't be impressed with that either.
Normally, it is wise of a band (unless they are really something special) to stick to the sound that won them fans. I tend to agree with this. However, at this point, PLEASE change, In Flames!! Either go back to the original lineup, or break up. Don't be like Metallica and stretch it out, dear God, what is it, over 25 years?? I can't imagine a quarter century of In Flaming malarky.

Album Description
Derek Bell, of the Chieftains,, captures the haunting, mystical quality of traditional Celtic music on this solo album of original melodies by Donald Walters.
Derek has played harp for 23 years with five-time Grammy Award-winning group, The Chieftains--Ireland's best-known interpreters of traditional Celtic music. Classically trained, Bell joined the group in 1972, after a distinguished career as a harpist with the Northern Ireland BBC Orchestra, and as a professor of harp and Irish harps at the Belfast Academy of Music.
For thirty-one years, The Chieftains have been the most influential of the Irish folk musicians, credited with doing more to spread the appreciation of traditional Irish music than any other group in Ireland's history. Bell, a resident of Northern Ireland, has several solo albums to his credit. He has composed three piano sonatas and Symphony in E-flat for orchestra, and is the recipient of the Manns Prize from the Royal College of Music
Customer Reviews:
Most soothing music ever.......2003-12-07
It is soothing, relaxing, regenerating collection of Music I have found. I can read while listening to this CD, I often go to sleep with the music.
I so wanted to hear Derek Bell when he was alive. The sorrow of the Chieftains is very evident. He was a good and great person in life as well as music. I found harp music too late, but we can all still enjoy Derek Bell's music.
"The silence must be heard".......2002-07-23
This artist will open a new chapter in your life. I reach for this CD after a long day at the office. The music is a blend of classical, new age. Deeply moving, these songs give you a moment to reflect on love and to explore your inner self. If you play piano, this is a worthy investment. Let "Mystic Harp", melt your stress, and be lifted instantly.
Excellent vocals........2000-06-18
Some of the best vocals of any recording. Mystic Harp has a pleasent beat, but it is the powerful vocals that seperate it from similar recordings.
Superb!.......1999-04-06
Excellen Celtic harp. And not just harp, but other instruments as well. 19 cuts, lotsa music. Highly recommended. I ordered the second album too.
soothing music that delights your soul........1999-01-12
What a treat you have in store for you--almost music to "die for" in the sense that you'd want this playing if you ever are down and out and want something to connect deeply to that place of goodness, quiet, calmness inside of you. This album celebrates the spirit and Donald Walters, who I met some 20 years ago at Ananda is a spiritual genius and he sings one song on this album too! This is an A+ album all the way and I'm buying it for numerous friends.

Centering and healing.......2007-02-22
This healing music can be used with babies, little children, and testy adults! Paul Baker's unique inovative style provides wonderful, soothing sounds that can be used for meditation or to create a quiet space.
Time for Ladder of the Soul #2.......2006-04-11
Beautiful throughout. Mr. Baker, your music is wonderful. I feel totally peaceful while stretching the morning. It' time for another masterpiece.
beautiful music, beautifully played.......2005-03-30
Lovely music, not only played with great skill by Paul Baker, but also music whose heart and sincerity of compassion shines through. Not overly simplistic like some massage music, but rather with real musical interest and beauty.
My Heartfelt Review for "The Ladder of the Soul".......2004-05-23
I am continually amazed by the healing power of music. Especially harp music. As those who know me know, my healing from a debilitating stroke came about in large part due to the improvisational healing harp of one man: Paul Baker.
Mr. Baker is such a talented person. He could have chosen to record albums using his vast knowledge and technique on the large and impressive concert harp, piano, or organ. However, for posterity, he chose to record improvisations for healing on the smaller and more personal celtic harp.
How does one capture the essence of such music in words? His two albums, "The Tranquil Harp" and "The Ladder of the Soul" are groundbreaking in their simplicity and breadth. And each one has its own unique place in my life.
"The Tranquil Harp" helped me most in my physical healing. Its music is very basic, simple, and gentle. It has brought, and continues to bring, growth and strength to every part of my physical being. To play it is to bathe in regeneration and light.
"The Ladder of the Soul" continues this healing on the emotional and spiritual planes. It connects our essence to the divine in such a way that we emerge purer and more aware of our true being and purpose in this life. This is real health. Divine health. What a gift to be brought to us by one man. This album is so aptly named as it proves that the harp truly is "the ladder between earth and heaven," connecting us to the divine safely and lovingly.
Thank you, Mr. Baker, for sharing yourself in such a way that allows all of us to unfold in ourselves and in the world with true happiness and peace.
The Most Beautiful Music.......2002-03-19
The Ladder of the Soul has become my favorite CD of all, and with good reason. I love this CD! It`s the most beautiful relaxing music I have ever listened to. If you have a stressful job or just want to unwind this is the CD for you. A cup of tea with Paul Baker is a peaceful way to end any day.

Terrible.......2007-02-23
I bought this Cd upon request from a friend and it is terrible. I want my money back. The worst is the singers voice which makes you want to slam your head up AGAINST! the wall. His voice maintains the same scartchy, gargaly, high octave yelling no matter what the tempo of the song. Just Terrible
Oh hail yeah!.......2006-09-12
This is just good old fashioned, in your face pissed off straight up punk, the way it should be. If you ask me, there should be more bands like this. These guys really know how to rage against the man, and kick [...] doing it. If you miss stuff like Black Flag, the Sex Pistols, and any other good punk band, you gotta check these dudes out. Not quite as good as those, of course, but [...] just the same.
Change is good.......2006-08-21
This Cd is the best it is a turning point in there music career, the band wants there music to progress as they get older. The Band does not want to produce the same record over and over! this band is great and should be aprecieated! if they never made reinventing axl rose then you wouldn't have heard it so be greatful!!! these guys are gonna stay true to the music they make!!
Don't believe the naysayers.......2006-08-06
I'm 28 years old. Punk has been my favorite kind of music since I was 16, so I'm obviously not new to it. I am, unfortunately, new to Against Me! I had always heard of them, but I just don't have the cash to buy stacks of records like I used to. The point is, this was my first exposure to Against Me and it blew my socks off. How could people possibly think this sucks or that it's not PUNK AS F***!? (In a modern way, at least.) This is the best punk album I've heard since Refused's "The Shape of Punk To Come" in 1998. There's not a bad song on this album, but the ones that really shine through for me are "From Her Lips To God's Ears (The Energizer)" (who would have known that Condoleeza was such a catchy name?), "Violence", "How Low", "Joy", "Even At Our Worst We're Still Better Than Most (The Roller)" and "Problems". It's been a rough past few years for punk and this is a breath of fresh air to me.
But people think they've sold out, huh? Remember when Jawbreaker came out with "Dear You" in 1995? The punks hated it. It was on a major. They said it wasn't like their old stuff. It was crucified by fans and critics alike. But guess what? It was really a great (and influential) album after all and is now a fan-favorite. Time had to be the judge.
The fact of the matter is, punk fans are terrified of change. They find their little band they like and they get comfortable with them and they expect them to pull a Bad Religion and make the same album for 25 years. (Correction: Bad Religion made the same album all the way up until Recipe For Hate, and then made THAT album over and over again until present time.) So "Searching For A Former Clarity" sounds different than their older albums? So what? All good bands evolve and not everyone likes it (check out Propagandhi for a good example of that.)
I suspect a big reason that some people don't like Against Me anymore is because they are on Fat Wreck Chords. I'm too old to worry about that BS anymore. I've got bigger things to worry about, like Simple Plan on the radio!
Shut Your Mouth "Punk Rockers".......2006-07-27
I bought this expecting a horrible album due to the claims that this isn't punk and blah blah blah. Most people seemed concerned about them changing their sounds, but for me, someone who still doesn't own any of their other albums, this is incredible. I have too admit though, there is not as much punk as I expected. Still every song has soooo much heart and soul in every song, and the songs are all different enough that you don't get bored. Definatley should buy it.

Anyone who witnessed Sting's savagely comic diaper-wearing performance in Dune or heard Don Johnson's mid-'80s recordings can state with authority that actors and singers are generally safer within their own realms. There have been notable exceptions of course--Bowie in the Man Who Fell to Earth, for instance and, to a lesser extent, hunky actor Russell Crowe with TOFOG. An acronym for Thirty Odd Foot of Grunts, TOFOG finds Crowe singing and co-songwriting unremarkable, frequently downcast barroom rock along with an otherwise unknown squad of Aussie mates. Having set the bar relatively low, Crowe and his cohorts manage to acquit themselves here without too much damage, although their conceit of being just a bunch of regular Joes cranking out melodic, serviceable rock--a point driven home by frequent, chummy bits of between-song chat among the members--is a bit rich. Nevertheless, Crowe's voice is both pleasant and in tune and he's clearly reaching for poetic plateaus within his lyrics. Poppier songs such as "Sail Those Same Oceans" clip along on a strumming electric guitar part and TOFOG sweep the peanut shells up off the tavern floor in the careening "Things Have Got to Change." Bastard Life or Clarity only goes south when Crowe attempts to demonstrate how in touch he is with the female psyche (no, really) in the maudlin "Wendy." Every bit as silly as it sounds. --Kim Hughes
Album Description
2000 release from band featuring Russell Crowe, self-described as, 'Aussie folk', the critics describe it as sounding like an evolution from the Aussie pub rock tradition of Paul Kelly, Midnight Oil and Hunters & Collectors. Ten tracks including the radio only single, 'Things Have Got To Change'.
Customer Reviews:
Why did he venture into music?.......2006-06-30
I'm almost terrified to write this review for the fact he might come beat me up.
Come ON, people... this is just another side of Crowe's ego thinking he is some wonderful thing. Yes, he's a good actor, but singer? The songs are less than mildly pleasing and he has absolutely NO depth to his voice whatsoever. I would never recommend this to anyone, and just might go back to listening to Telly Savalas' 'If'.
Surpisingly Good!.......2005-10-02
As others have implied in other reviews, it's true, we wouldn't know about this band had it not been for Russell Crowe. That being true, it does not take away from the credibility of the band itself, they make excellent music and put on a great live show.
My favourite tracks are "Things Have Got to Change" -- this has a really good horn solo on it, "Sail Those Same Oceans" which has a great theme (also a great video), "Somebody Else's Princess" very upbeat, & "Wendy".
My Comments on Russel Crowe's Music.......2005-08-07
Russel Crowe has a deep, haunting (beautiful)voice that is perfect for the style of this CD. His band, by the way - is musically superb. These are not amatures. And neither is Russell Crowe. He is honest and heartfelt - and since he isn't out pimping himself taking money for uncool ads abroad(like so many other 'celebrities')that, in my book, makes him credible all the way. By the way, the lower and deeper he sings - the better!
TOFOG makes the world go round.......2004-10-25
I saw them (TOFOG) on Soundstage (PBS) and fell in love. I mean, their music reaches me more than Crowe's acting - Although he is amazing at that too! I listen to this CD everyday on my way to work, and must recommend it to all.
Good listening!
Just plain good music.......2003-08-22
WOW. Attitude adjustment: The thinking should not be "What? Russell Crowe, the actor, can sing?" but rather "What? Russell Crowe, the singer, can act?" At the risk of being redundant, wow. If sex had a voice, it would sound like Russell Crowe, but that's just my opinion (I could be wrong). Interestingly, when I went to (many) music stores today to find more by this group (I am wearing out this CD...), only one had any of their CD's. I then discovered that "Gaslight" seems to be this same CD but with a few more songs--don't know if any are missing, I just glanced and moved on when I saw all the duplications. You might want to look into that.

Album Description
The legend returns in this sequel to the bestselling album, The Mystic Harp. Derek Bell, harpist for the five-time Grammy award winning group The Chieftains, displays his unusual mastery in this critically acclaimed recording. This heart-opening mystical music will uplift your soul with twenty captivating melodies, written in the Celtic tradition by Donald Walters. A treasure for lovers of Celtic and harp music, Mystic Harp 2 is that rarity of sequels-one that is even better than the original.
Customer Reviews:
Better than the first!.......2000-10-25
Mystic Harp 2 is one of my favorite albums--maybe the best of the celtic/new age hybrid albums available.
Personally, although I really like the first one, I actually think that this one is better. Why? Largely because I think the melodies are actually a little stronger on this one than The Mystic Harp. Those were good. These are great. The composer, Donald Walters, really seems to have benefitted the second time around from having already "got one under his belt," so to speak. The melodies are very rich, textured--even profound. And Derek's playing, as always, is simply the best. You can really feel that these instrumental pieces mean something--both to Derek and the composer. They're not just Celtic "sound-alikes"--rather they sort of go beyond pure Celtic music and capture, as the title promises, a feeling or hint of something more mystical.
Watery Cream of wheat, over-cooked and strained........1999-12-31
This is not really a Derek Bell CD, but a Donald Waters CD. Bell is only the main performer. If you are looking for Celtic music do not buy this! If you are looking for the most mind-numbing, saccharine-laced New Age music you have found it. Now I like good New Age music, but that quality does not apply to this release. Bell is a fine performer, his Chieftans heritage ensures him a firm place in the annals of modern Celtic music. It is good that after so many years of doing traditional music that such artists branch out and do something a little different. Some of the finest Celtic music I have heard is played on the harp. Bell is an excellent musician and should feel ashamed for participating in this travesty. The cover describes this as 'Music in the Celtic Tradition,' but that applies in only the most broad sense of the term 'Celtic.' There is much talent here, Waters' as well as Bell's, but it is wasted. Soft music should be moving and stirring in a deep spiritual way, and should not create a false sense of peace by numbing the listener into a daze of metaphysical-musical boredom.

Not so much.......2006-11-29
Unfortunately Spoken has gone from being a band at the top of my list, and through the past couple of years have dwindled into the region of... yawn. I rarely, almost never post negative reviews, only in special circumstances, if I am passionate about the badness. This time I am. Spoken started out as a band with a sound similar to Rage Against the Machine, and were filled with cool lyrics and head banging arrangements. Now, I hear the lead singer sound like a cat being harpooned by Captain Ahab. The music has sunk into the everyday monotonous grind agenda. All around... WHAT HAPPENED? Come on guys, return to your roots. You have given your current fans enough of this style, its time to return to your base. Until then I will be awaiting patiently for another album like "On your Feet."
Amazing, simply amazing.......2006-08-19
After hearing their song "Promise" on the internet, I immediately knew that Spoken had something good going. Little did I know how much of an understatement that is.
These guys are amazing, and from Track #1 all the way to the last song, they keep bringing great songs and never cease to amaze you. The caliber of the music and mixing is incredible. Kudos to Tooth&Nail for bringing another hit to us.
Some may say (and understandably so) that Matt Baird's vocals are an aquired taste. While this CD is not at all the standard within the hardcore/screamo genre, Matt's vocals sometimes get screechy and a little tense. For me this brings a whole new level to the songs that I love, but some may find it grating and annoying.
Musical attributes aside, what makes this CD so great is the lyrics. Every song on there is either glorifying God or helping someone with a trial. It's amazing how they are able to create a perfect combination of lyrics and melodies to create an album full of near unbeatable songs. The only album that really comes close is Spoken's newest release "Last Chance to Breathe".
rad.......2006-01-04
I got this CD for the song 'Sleep Well Tonight'... and there's prolly like 3 songs on here that I like more. and all the other songs are really good too. Its a great CD!!!!
Simply outSPOKEN !!!! .......2005-11-22
Lets just be honest ...this album is brilliant and Matt Baird a genius. His vocals are amazing and the harmonies smooth yet raw . I think this is the best of their last 3 albums ...."last chance to breath " comes close to this one . Spokenare great because I never get tired or bored of listening to them ....they are timeless
Utmostly, absolutly, rocking hard, kicking awsome!.......2005-09-04
Dude, if you're into rock, you will like "A Moment of IMperfect Clarity". Nice harmonics, beautiful lyrics, and straight rock guitars laced with a little punk. On top of all this, the guys from Spoken have a message to share with you and they are the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Support them, don't steal their CD...I mean, download.
