Brutal.......2003-11-03
Probably the best cover album next to Slayer's Undisputed Attitude. A lot of good stuff here, and I gotta give props to Eric Klinger for picking up some of the vocal duties. Not to sideline Gary, but I'd like to hear more of him on their regular studio albums. 'Weeds' is just killer and 'Iron Fist' smokes. My only beef is with their choice to cover 'South of Heaven.' Yeah, it's good and heavy, but they should have gone with something like 'Antichrist' or 'Die by the Sword.' Regardless, it's an excellent album.
Run For Cover.......2003-08-27
Hardcore legends Pro-Pain have released their 9th studio CD "Run For Cover". The disc is comprised of cover songs from artists who have influenced Pro-Pain throughout their musical careers. Songs from such artists as Discharge, Sepultura, Celtic Frost, Operation Ivy, Slayer and many more are spotlighted here on this 14 song musical onslaught. Admittedly the band is not and never has been a cover band by nature, but the heavy hitting quartet has produced a CD of cover songs that pays homage to the artists who have inspired them most "musically, spiritually and intellectually." This has to be one of the most intense recordings of cover songs that I have heard in years and yet each song maintains the level of integrity that they were originally recorded with. Probably the one song that is the purest to the original is their rendition of the Motorhead classic "Iron Fist". Vocalist Gary Meskil almost sounds identical to Lemmy (Motorhead) on this song and he should be proud of the job he did on this song. This is a great CD from Pro-Pain and I think that fans of the band will be happy with "Run For Cover" overall and it may even appeal to fans of some of the bands that are honored on this recording.
Key Song: Refuse/Resist (Sepultura)

On top of their game.......2005-03-06
These guys just will not go away. They've been around for close to fifteen years and they haven't changed much at all. This album is along the lines of most of their other stuff which is fine by me. They haven't folded to any trend, they've stuck to their guns and still, amazingly, people consider them a "new" (or should I say "nu"?) band. Fistful of Hate makes a case for their best effort yet. The album starts off with the amazing "Can you feel it?". They lay it all out of track one and if that doesn't convinced you nothing will, so go buy the latest Metallica album and keep calling yourself a metalhead. They follow up with 'Left for Dead', another album highlight as well as 'American Dreams', 'Godspeed', 'Lost Horizons', and the instrumental 'The better half of forever'. They prove once again that they're not afrad to experiment and they'll break before they bend. To me, Pro-Pain is among the best in the business. I'm glad to see that among all these trendy, "tune-down-and-scream-about-breaking-up-with-your-girlfriend" bands, there is still one group who aren't afraid to craft pounding riffs, brutal solos, and griding vocals into honest metal.
Loud, Angry, Aggressive! I'll take two!.......2005-02-16
This cd is probably one of the best purchases you'll make this year if you're into this stuff. Although a little repetitive at times (but how many bands aren't somewhat anyway yet still good?!), the sheer volume of highly listenable crushing energy released makes it all worthwhile. I don't how they maintain such a high level either naturally or on dexies or something ;-P, but if you need a good shock to the system and wake up call from this eF'd up Matrix we call Life, this is just the ticket! Left for Dead and The Better Half of Forever just kill!
NYC HARDCORE FIEND.......2005-02-01
ONE WORD SUMS UP THIS CD AMAZING.
A Solid Release.......2004-07-06
I was listening to Xtreme Metal Radio on live365.com and I heard Godspeed and American Dreams. I must admit at first listen I was not sure I was listening to Pro-Pain or not. So I decided to pick up this album. I do agree with one of the other reviewers about those two songs. They do have that "Nu" metal type feel to them. Nevertheless it is a solid release from an often over looked metal band.
PRO-PAIN stays angry -- top notch thrash/speed/core metal.......2004-04-25
Very few bands have released 8 full-lenght albums maintaining the same style and PRO-PAIN can be proud of it. "FISTFUL OF HATE" is their last release and once again, a solid one. Overall, a very good album, not a masterpiece though and i'll tell you why. It starts with "Can you feel it?" and "Left for Dead": the first 2 tracks and clearly my favorites: full of angry, moshy and catchy riffing along with devastating double drumming, and with that classic PRO-PAIN mid-tempo/speed pace that will blow your mind away. Then, "Godspeed" and "American dreams" introduce a new face for the band, with clean vocals on chorus; I personally don't like it. It gives me a sensation of uncertainty for what could happen in the next album. I hope PRO-PAIN doesn't fall into that "nu-new-metal" crap with that "bi-dimensional vocals" non-sense. Gary Meskhil's vocals are like a flag for them and should never be changed. Still, those tracks are not bad, and heavy indeed. "Imploded" delivers blasting double drumming, not a fast song but brutally intense. "Aftermath" and "Freedom Rings" don't stand out as great songs but they do have PRO-PAIN written on them all over the place, like "Cut throat". The instrumental "Better half of forever" is without a doubt one of the stars of the album: energetic and full of breaking rhythm changes; shows their maturity. The last 2 song bring back what the first 2 do: "Lost horizons" and the title track "Fistful of hate" are demolishing: thrash/speed/core metal as its best. In summary, if you are looking for the usual PRO-PAIN sound you will definitely find it. This album is not as consistent as "Contents under pressure" or "Round 6", but still very good and a mandatory piece for true thrashcore listeners. If you don't know the band, they have a unique style and is difficult to tell you what bands are similar, but i would mention Hatebreed, Merauder, Slayer, Pissing Razors, The Haunted, Pantera. Get it.

Believe it or not..........2006-08-17
Most people make the mistake of assuming that ALL Christian rap is garbage. And I understand why: They Try Too Hard. And everyone knows that when you try to hard, you usually miss your target.
Back to the point...
Enter Mars iLL, emphasis on the "ill". These dudes seriously stay true to the Word and the words. Manchild on the mic and Dust on the wax...maintaining their ties to the underground community.
People argue about the "Greatest Rapper Alive". I definately nominate Manchild. Without a doubt. His words are real, and you get what he's saying. Crossing boundaries like class, Mars iLL is a must for any hip-hop head. Seriously.
great hip-hop.......2006-07-10
Mars iLL is some of the best hip-hop coming out of Atlanta right now. Support your scene and this great band!
best of the best.......2006-06-27
After a LONG, long wait for fans of the Atlanta based, underground sensation Mars Ill's second release, Pro-pain is now on shelf stores. Supposed to have released in 2004, legal trouble kept us in limbo. The final product is well worth the wait. As usual, Mars Ill rips their lives wide open and provide a depth in lyrics very rarely found in any hip-hop, Christian or secular. I appreciate that the lyrics are never Christian fluff, sermons that rhyme, or cruddy metaphors; instead it is raw, real, and unapologetic. Not to mention that the beats are hot. Among others, Pro-Pain includes guest artists Ahmad Jones (4th Ave. Jones) and Cappadonna (Wu Tang Clan). It doesn't matter if you are a hip hop fan or not, this album will blow your mind and your stereo, go pick it up and support these guys!!

The meat and potatoes of metal..........2001-09-02
I love Pro-Pain. They are loud, angry, and tight. Act Of God was my first Pro-Pain CD. I picked it up 'cuz the name of the band sounded cool, and it turned out to be one of my all time favorite CD's. This isn't gardening music, this is "torture the neighboor's cat and then beat on your little brother" heavy metal. Once you've heard one of Pro-Pain's albums, you'll want 'em all.
definitely an act of god.......2000-07-22
this band is killer. they are on a roll. keep it up pro-pain
great album.......2000-07-17
i just got this album a month ago, and i have to say it is pretty good. It has some catchy rhythms, and great hardcore vocals. I'm just now finding out about this band, i have yet to hear their older stuff, but this is good if you like hardcore metal.
hardcore that makes the difference.......2000-06-01
pro-pain's hardcore makes the grade. they are EXTREME!!!!!!!!! if you don't have this, GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A fine hard-core album.......1999-08-27
I'll be straight forward: this is a great album--much better than "Pro-Pain"(this is still good)-but still not as good as "The Truth Hurts". "Truth" is an excellent album. Nevertheless, "Act of God" is far better than any current radio offering or so-called heavy metal that is out on the shelves these days.

Hours of Strange and Wonderful Enjoyment.......2006-07-19
This is a fine collection of the work of the "oddest of Bach's 20-odd children." The intros and commentary by Professor Peter Schickele (University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople) are as sidesplitting as the "music" itself. One learns, for example, that PDQ Bach is the only composer to have written for double reeds -- without the use of oboes or bassoons. . . . Just four of the high(low)lights on this 4-disc set include: "Concerto for Horn and Hardart," "Iphigenia in Brooklyn," "Unbegun Symphony," and "Pervertimento for Bagpipes, Bicycle, and Balloons." The PDQ Bach corpus is (fortunately) not exhausted with this box set, so there will likely be others, but this one is terrific and will provide hours of strange and wonderful enjoyment.
PDQ Bach lifts the standard of musical humor.......2005-09-16
Excellent 4 CD album from PDQ Bach. Although most music is meant to be humoresque, it is also brilliantly composed/'borrowed' from other composer. Nice item for music lovers that do have sense of, almost British, humor.
Essential for any classical fan with a sense of humor.......2005-08-09
This recording is a treasure trove of PDQ Bach music. It is good for many, many laughs, and even my husband who is not well-versed in classical enjoys it to bits. A must-own for anyone who loves the wit of Peter Schickele!
calamity in high C.......2003-04-10
if you cant sing and laugh at the same time just wait til he tries to do a Rap song. look for my favorite song of his "o little town of hackensack" for christmas time
Totally corny and totally classic!.......2002-11-29
What can I say? These attempts to poke fun at classical music and aficionados of the genre are silly, puerile, well-informed, beloved by said aficionados, and utterly hilarious. With a style of humor that is something like a cross between Garrison Keillor, Victor Borge and Monty Python, "Professor" Peter Schickele has been perpetrating the P.D.Q. Bach phenomenon since 1959. "Researching" and sometimes even dressing up as the alleged "last and least" of Johann Sebastian Bach's many children, Schickele has composed, conducted and performed send-ups of various composers and musical styles. This four CD set compiles some the best (or should I say "worst"?) of his efforts. Included are "The O.K. Chorale", "The Unbegun Symphony", "My Bonnie Lass, She Smelleth", "The Seasonings", "Schleptet in E flat minor", "Echo Sonata for Two Unfriendly Groups of Instruments", "Concerto for Horn and Hardart", and my two personal favorites: "Beethoven's Fifth Symphony" (with commentary by sports analysts discussing the "competition" between the conductor and the orchestra) and the hilarious cantata "Iphigenia in Brooklyn". I can remember my father rolling on the floor in hysterics upon first hearing "Iphigenia", and anyone who is familiar with the Baroque oratorio style of such ubiquitous works as Handel's "Messiah" or J.S. Bach's cantatas will undoubtedly howl too at all the "in jokes". If you're serious about Baroque or classical music, do yourself a favor--let your hair down, get un-serious, and listen to these CDs every once in a while. And may every genre of music be fortunate enough to have a "P.D.Q. Bach" invented for it!

Pro Pain Never changes, but who cares.......2005-04-24
Honestly, seeing the artwork on this album kind of made me a little unhopeful by this album, but all I can say is that PRO PAIN F*cking destroys anything on the radio to this very day. yes the are semi Generic, but so is all the garbage that filters around on the radio mtv, vh1, Pro Pain I think is WAY under rated. Buy this F*cking album.
the most solid metal band of the 90's.......2004-03-03
i've being listening to metal since i was 15 years old, back in 1986 and i can assure you that Pro-Pain is a top ten of all-time. Particularly if you are inclined to thrash/speed of late 80's and also like the Pantera era of the early 90's, this album is a mandatory piece for you. Although maintaining their style closely attached to hardcore roots, Pro-Pain makes the difference by consistently delivering a well-rounded, perfectly executed, full of anger thrash/speed/core metal that does not fall in the disturbing "alt-nu-metal" phenomenom. This is non-stop boisterous but technical riffs. Check out "Desentisize": mosh without boundaries. Buy this CD. No question.
Fan since day 1.......2001-03-12
I have followed Pro-Pain since they came out with Foul taste of freedom in '92, I had even seen them live that year, I was 15 and that was my first live show I had been to, so I basically grew up on Pro pain among other bands. Foul taste of freedom is one of my favorite albums ever and I am thankful these guys have kept making albums ever since then. Round 6 is heavy beyond description and I must say it is my 2nd favorite Pro Pain album next to Foul taste of freedom. I feel like stomping somebody into the concrete when I listen to the blistering song, "Down in Flames", and I feel like dancing all over somebody's battered face to the speed of the lightning quick "Fed up", which are 2 of the highlights of this album in my opinion. All in all, I can listen to this album in its entirety over and over again with a nice, big, violent smile on my good lookin' mug.
One of the best speed-metal bands........2000-12-22
Having known of the band Pro-Pain for some time, I'm glad to see they haven't changed their tune. No rapping, no videos on MTV, barely any press, yet they still rule. Their music makes Metallica look like a Hanson brothers side band, and has the same velocity as older Sepultura and Machine Head. (Definitely has that good ole' Bay Area mosh pit sound, eventhough PP is actually NY-based.)
Metal as it's meant to be played. Definitely recommended! Get this CD!
this stinks.......2000-12-16

Pro-Pain...What Are They?.......2005-04-01
Nu-metal? Thrash? Hardcore? I hate classifying music into genres, but I'll just say: FREAKIN' SWEET! Damn, this is good stuff right here. This record really shows that the band could fuse rap and metal together and leave those Limp Bizkit posers to die. "Death On The Dance Floor" and "Pound For Pound" are amazing masterpieces, as well as my favorite, "Foul Taste Of Freedom". "Johnny Black" is sort of a Gorilla Biscuits meets Pantera sort of dealy. The rest of the album is just brilliant. You can't go wrong with any Pro-Pain album. Death to Limp Bizkit!
Pro-Pain deserve more credit.......2004-09-10
Five stars all the way.
Pro-Pain kick serious arse.
They exude power. Angry (balls in the back of throat) voice, crunching guitars, solid drumming - a hardcore metal orgasm.
Leaves the nu-metal poser clowns for dead.
As their first outing, they set themselves a high benchmark to follow and I believe they've been consistent ever since.
You really can't go wrong with Pro-Pain, if you're a fan of all things loud and in your face.
Shows that you don't need nine in a band wearing face masks to create a heavy aesthetic.
Stand out tracks: Foul Taste Of Freedom, Iraqnophobia, The Stench Of Piss, God Only Knows.
The definative Pro-Pain Album.......2004-01-23
This is definitly the greatest effort put forth by the heavy-metal band Pro-Pain. Actually riding the edge between metal and a kind of angry white rap, the tone on this album absolutly blows away anything seen on their later works. The guitars are fat, and the vocals are full-on and in-your-face. Might come off as a bit cheesy, but thats what we love so much about tracks such as "Iraqniphobia" and "Murder 101": their tounge-in-cheeck approach to vocals mixed with a solid foundation of bass, drums and chunky guitar. A must-have for any Pro-Pain fan.

Crank It Up and Drive!.......2000-06-27
Pro Pain has everything you need if you are a fan of heavy metal music. My Heavy Metal friends at work rated Pro Pain Greatest Hits 5 stars, because it mirrored life for them, and sounded good, even when they cranked it up to where your eardrums hurt and you could feel the bass in your chest! Pro Pain #1 in hardcore metal in the opinion of those who like it that way!
