5 out of 5 stars Absolutely necessary in any Jazz Collection.......2000-07-06

This was the first Schifrin CD I ever bought ... as a result of this decision, a lot of money has since changed hands. Great solid introduction to the music from mission:impossible, previously unreleased material along with great recordings of various soundtracks. Top tracks include 'The Cat' from Jimmy Smith, and 'Jim on the Move' for it's shuffle. As a result of listening to this CD you will SURELY then buy 'Bullitt', 'Bossa Nova Groove' and the original 'CAT'. This is all wrapped up in a great inlay with interesting reading and photos.... enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars good for the tricky fan.......2002-08-07

This is a good EP if you are already a fan of Tricky, sort of a mix between Angels With Dirty Faces and Juxtapose. The song Crazy Claws is excellent, and Tricky Vs. Lynx only has vocals by Mad Dog, but is still a good track and gives you a taste of what his live shows are like. Mission Accomplished doesn't stand out very much but Divine comedy is a new twist on the music from Money Greedy, with some very good lyrics. If you like Tricky and have most of his albums I recommend this, although it's not a good place to start if you haven't heard much of him, especially at ten dollars for only four tracks.

5 out of 5 stars Tricky more hip-hop than trip-hop.......2002-02-20

Get this album so you can hear Tricky at his angriest and most passionate (Divine Comedy) or so you can hear him being funky (Crazy Claws.)

4 out of 5 stars The new Jimi.......2001-06-02

Hendrix lived in England, too. He also believed a black man should be able to play heavy guitar-based music. He was also misunderstood by his own people and deified by the vanilla media hip rightwing staff. These four tunes are brilliantly produced attacks on the outside world and Tricky will never get his props in this world. He could be the man to change hiphop, jungle and metal.

5 out of 5 stars Audio awakening.......2001-02-13

Tricky always amazes me with his use of ambient sound juxtaposed with his naturally dislocated voice. There is nothing better than a Tricky cd except Tricky live!

2 out of 5 stars Unexciting exclusives.......2001-02-11

This EP is the first release from Tricky since he left Island records. It comes from the independent label Ante european branch of Epitaph Records. He was not happy with the way he was treated by the major label. The music on this EP is stuff left over from his years at Isaland/Polygram. He growls sarcastically "Polygram, thats what i am" in the final song, when his angst over his record label is presented in "Divine Comedy". This appeared on white label twelve-inch records a couple years ago, it is in response to a quote made by an Island Records executive who stated all his black artists were convicts. "Divine Comedy" is mostly just the music from "Money Greedy" from his earlier album "Angels with Dirty Faces". It does include strong lyrics aimed direclty at the suits who work at Polygram. Other tracks include mediocre rapping from Mad Dog. Tricky may be able to rescue his career with his next album, it will help that none of these tracks will be on it. A new beginning with another label may give Tricky the artistic freedom to make music worthy of comparison to his finer, earlier work. Pick up this EP only if you are a completionist.

barely worth the plastic the cd is pressed on. all four tracks sound terrible-intolerable.. and very much an imitation of the dirty south made unpopular by the 'artists' on the cash money label.

tracks are aggressive, repetitive and uninteresting. don't buy it.

4 out of 5 stars Better than Juxtapose.......2001-01-11

Here it is, Tricky's latest release. Too bad it's only available as an import, but what can you do? There are four tracks on here, each of them slightly better than any of the songs on Tricky's last album, Juxtapose. First up there the title track, Mission Accomplished, which is a heavy metal remake of the theme from Mission Impossible, with some guy singing the chorus to Peter Gabriel's "Big Time" overtop the music. Tricky's own voice only shows up occasionally, muttering the "Big Time" chorus lyrics along with this uncredited guest vocalist. I've checked the liner notes twice, and still haven't found any mention of who played the background music on this EP's 4 tracks, and who helped with the vocals. Anyway, the next track is "Crazy Claws," which sounds like something Tricky might've done back in his Angels With Dirty Faces days, just with a more modern/Juxtapose beat, which is very junglish. Things sound great until Mad Dogg, who was featured so prominently on Juxtapose, shows up. Nothing against the guy, I think he has great rapping skills, but I always find his appearances on Tricky's songs a little grating. Like, the song is going along all nice and smooth and then Mad Dogg shows up and starts rhyming a hundred words a second. It just doesn't work, and it's going to sound dated in 5 years. However, Mad Dogg makes another appearance on the third track, "Tricky vs Lynx," and on this song he sounds great. This is probably because the music is just as fast as his rhyming. This track is live and will give you a good idea of how much more energized Tricky is in concert. I'm not for sure, but it sounds like Tricky is rapping with Mad Dogg for most of the lyrics, but his voice is too low in the mix. Finally we have "Divine Comedy," an infamous track that is from the Angels With Dirty Faces days. This was Tricky's slap in the face to Polygram, which at the time had an employee who made racist remarks. Musically, this song is the same as "Money Greedy" off the Angels album, but with different, more biting lyrics. But anyway it's great to hear from Tricky again. Apparently a new album is coming soon and none of these songs will be featured on it. Also this is a limited edition EP, so get it while you can.

4 out of 5 stars 'it's tricky to rock around'.......2001-01-08

four tracks...eleven bucks? steep price but if you are a fan it's definitely worth it. the first three tracks are very fresh they would have fit on the juxtapose album, last track is from the angels with dirty faces period and man is it phat. great ep, can't wait for a full length album.

5 out of 5 stars Tricky is back with this awesome single!.......2000-12-16

If you are a big fan of Tricky you have this chance to ear his latest single. He is back with a stronger music full of power and energy, similar to Juxtapose Just buy it!

2 out of 5 stars Not all that it could be.......2001-11-10

All the themes are easily recognized, as stated in previous reviews, but on the whole I don't think it's worth 5 stars. The "Peter Gunn" theme is not the popular Henry Mancini version, but still good. "Goldfinger" just doesn't sound the same without Shirley Bassy singing it. The version on this cd is by Billy Strange trying very hard to sound like Al Caiola. Yuk! Also "The Avengers" isn't the kosher tv theme. Okay, so some of the themes were 'stretched' out a bit, which I have no problem with. Lalo Schrifrin's "Mission: Impossible" and Mike Post's "Hill Street Blues" really saved this cd. If you're just looking for familiar themes it's a good album. Just be prepared to be a little disappointed.

What does Mancini, Hammer, Barry, Schifrin and Post have in common with Connery, Craig Stevens, Diana Rigg and Patrick McGoohan? Well, they were all in the "Spy Business", acting and composing for some of the best films and television series ever featured on the BIG and little screen. This album contains some of the most recognizable themes ever to come out of the entertainment industry, if not the original very close or better than.

The CD has the "Lounge" movement in mind, which is very popular right now. Some highlights - "PETER GUNN" (Mancini) - "JAMES BOND THEME" (Monty Norman/John Barry) - "SECRET AGENT MAN" (Sloan/Barri) and of course the "MISSION IMPOSSIBLE" (Schifrin), each track hits the mark, a perfect "Bullseye"!

5 out of 5 stars Two of Martino's best in a double set.......2003-08-17

Both these CD's from jazz guitarist Pat Martino were originally issued separately with the titles "Nightwings" and "Interchange" and were recorded within two months of each other in 1994, so they are a good example of this period in Pat's ever evolving development. I have been an avid admirer of Martino's guitar playing and his writing since the mid seventies when I first heard him live.He is such a brilliant guitarist that it almost betrays his talents as a composer which I feel he deserves equal praise for. I have pretty much all of his available recordings both as a leader and a sideman and can say that in my opinion these two CD's represent possibly his best work to date. Both albums feature the brilliant pianist from Colorado, Jim Ridl who is still playing with Martino today. The "Interchange" recording reunites Martino with his old drummer Sherman Ferguson, and it is a treat to hear them getting together again on this CD.There are many other recordings of Pat that are also well worthwhile checking out but these along with his CD "The Maker" are my personal favorites.

5 out of 5 stars phenomenal and inspiring.......2001-08-23

I'd been aware of Pat Martino for the last few decades, and appreciated his work, but didn't own any of his CDs. This year I bought the latest, Live at Yoshi's, and was so blown away that it prompted me to go back and check out more of this amazing guitar player's work. The strongest performances I've found thus far, after the concert at Yoshi's are contained in this set, reissues of Interchange and Nightwings. It seems as though Pat takes it up a notch when he's playing with adept, high-spirted sidemen. The back up players on these CDs (particularly the pianist, who is on both CDs)are just the match to light Martino up. My favorite cut, Recollections, appears on Live at Yoshi's and the Interchange CD. In the late 1980s Martino had surgery for brain aneurisms which (temporarily) stripped him of his guitar playing abilities. These recordings, made in the mid 1990s after his recovery, are the strongest case that can be made for the powers of rehabilitation. He's better than ever.

5 out of 5 stars MISSION ACCOMPLISHED/NIGHT WINGS.......1999-12-07

DISC 2 (NIGHTWINGS) IS FANSTASTIC. GUITAR WORK IS FLAWLESS. IF YOU CAN IGNORE THE GUITAR WORK, CHECK OUT THE PIANIST. THE COMBINATION OF THE TWO ARE TERRIFIC TOGETHER.
