T.I. may take alter-egotism to new heights on T.I. vs. T.I.P., an album that's essentially a spinoff of a song (Trap Muzik's psychologically charged "T.I. vs. T.I.P."), but few artists have been known to spin something so compelling out of a concept so silly. T.I.P. is the hoodie-wearing hustler we get to know in the first part of this exceptionally long disc--he curses and boasts behind the beats with a lazy bravado that manages to be both slouchy and sharp (check out "Da Dopeman," "Watch What You Say" featuring a fired-up Jay-Z, and "You Know What It is," with Wyclef), and T.I. is the right-minded tycoon-type who takes over for a while in act two. As smooth an operator as T.I. is--"Show It to Me," featuring Nelly, finds its groove and never lets up--he's more compelling in the grittier parts of the disc, including a four-song final act in which the two halves of his deeply divided personality square off. "Respect This Hustle," the M.C. commands on the next-to-last track; detractors will try not to, citing the slightness of his concept. T.I. is at the top of his game, though, and he makes it heard. --Tammy La Gorce

You know what it is!.......2007-07-16
I am not the biggest fan of the current state of hiphop in fact i rarely by new cd's or even bootleg them. I am one of thost that agrees that this is the hiphop is dead era. But, every now and then you get a quality rap cd. I am a T.I fan more of a TIP fan but they are the same guy a least I think they are. Anyway my credibility may be shot by that statement but this is a good pop rap cd. Notice I said pop rap cd, not hiphop. I won't bore you with the three acts the cd is divided into that has already been done. I found it interesting to listen to the two alter egos do battle in the music. I also thought is was cool that T.I went back to his old style of rapping. Most artist when they make it they say by by to what they did before. So you get a more hardcore syle and the bragging thing that every rapper does today. Some of my favorite tracks are you know what it is, help on the way, we do this. Help on the way has these cathedral style organs playing that gives it a very dramatic affect easily the best song on the cd. We do this has a more futuristic/new wave sound from the 80's. When I hear that track it makes me think of what Kanye West new sound is suppose to be. Listen to it, it has those sci fi keyboards that Mr. West claims will make his new album sound like 2080 something. That was off the subject easily one of the best if not the best rap album this year. I would give it 4 1/2 stars but I liked it so much a gave it five. Also check out if you haven't heard T.I "I'm Serious" if you like the TIP style
TI vs TIP, cool but not as good as king.......2007-07-14
TI is indeed one of the top rappers in the south along with lil wayne. Im a TI fan. I got all 5 of his cd's, but this ain't his best offering. That would go to trap muzik. Some tight cuts on here include dopeman, my type, you know what it is, hurt, watch what you say to me, help is coming, the 1st act with TIP and the 2nd act with TI even though they were both interludes. Touchdown was straight, but a collaboration with eminem, i'd thought it would have been hotter. Big thangs poppin was alright, but not even close to his best 1st single. If you want good southern rap or a TI fan, then cop it, but if you are new to TI then cop trap muzik or im serious first.

This cd is good but it could've been a little better.I still love it though.
This CD is dope, forget what anyone else says..............2007-07-13
T.I. brings it again with another hot cd. This is better than King, night and day difference. T.I. shows now that he can consistently bring fresh music, while adapting and growing in a genre that is usually quite stale. Get this cd!
T.I. Vs Tip.......2007-07-12
I like this CD. Its just as good as his other CD, King. This album shows both sides of one of contemporary music's most compelling characters. This album is really a conceptual one. Tip is the name he had as a child. T.I. is his stage name. This album is his most eclectic project to date and finds him at the apex of lyrical skill. This album is broken into 3 parts. Songs by Tip open up the opus, then records by T.I. take center stage. Towards the end., the listener has a front row seat to one fo the great epic sparring matches ever, as both T.I. and Tip are featured together. This album is going to go GOLD then dat Platinum.

From Amazon.ca
Finger Eleven's career shifted suddenly and significantly when their 2003 emo-hit "One Thing" turned the band's career on its axis. At that point, they went from being known as 'the boys from Burlington who used to call themselves the Rainbow Butt Monkeys' to a group whose anthemic slow rock song went Platinum in Canada and Gold in America. So how does a band respond after its widespread fame is the result of just one song? In the case of Them Vs. You Vs. Me, Finger Eleven have consciously stayed away from anything remotely resembling their past and put the focus on the straight-ahead alt-rock formula that they've consistently excelled at. There are certain old-school rock influences that bleed clearly through their music, from Rush-isms in the form of frenetic time changes ("Sense of a Spark") to "Talking to the Walls" and "Lost My Way" which evoke Peter Gabriel-era Genesis. Frontman Scott Anderson's voice is impressive throughout, but when he sings ballads, especially "Window Song" and "Easy Life," something enables him to appeal to a whole different audience than traditional alt-rock fans. There is no 'one thing' on this disc that will allow them to reach the heights of their self-titled CD, just a consistency that will provide longtime fans reason to appreciate the band even more. --Denise Sheppard
Customer Reviews:
Better Than Expected!.......2007-07-13
After seeing lukewarm reviews, I went into this with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised! The songs were not all "One Thing" imitations, but rather the band has gone in a different directly with their music. Two of the songs even have a slight 'twang' to them, and while I despise country music, the 'twang' works well on this CD.
Ironically, Amazon has paired this with Chevelle's latest, and those two CD's are currently my top two.

notice how everyone who says this is my first time hearing F11 i love it and they give it 5 stars? yea..cuz its a good album..all you 1 star guys own greyest of blue skies and your wanting a repeat...well f11 dosent do that... thats like watching and loving super troupers then renting their 1st release called puddle cruisers and hating it because you wanted another super troupers out of it....but would you have liked the movie if youd never seen super troupers?..most likely....NEVER judge someone on their other works. and you won't ruin the music for yourself.... if them vs you vs me was released my ohh say...some band called cheetah lol and you heard paralyzer...youd prob like the album...
What a great new concept album!.......2007-07-08
I'm a new fan and picked this one up the day it came out because of Paralyzer. I listened for a couple weeks and liked it a lot, then I put it away so I didn't get burned out on it.
I listened again today driving from Philly to DC and really paid attention. Aside from the myriad classic rock influences that can be heard and the solid musicianship, this disc is quite the concept album. Best one I've heard in a long time and I'm very, very rarely impressed by new musical offerings. I understand that this may not be the same sound as their previous offerings but I really don't care. This is good music.
5 stars!
No more paralyzers?.......2007-07-08
I love Paralyzer.. it has a harder sound to it which I was hoping to hear on the rest of the album. Unfortunately, I only liked the first track and found the rest to be a bit of a disappointment. Seems like "Paralyzer" should have been done by Disturbed. The only reason I gave the album a 2 was because it has one song I can't get enough of. Otherwise, it's a zero. Generic and poor lyrics = radio friendly. Not what I'm looking for.
It's Awesome.......2007-06-02
I got into Finger Eleven for their track 'One Thing'. That was a really good song, excellently composed but it did not make a serious fan out of me. That is until the new album 'Them-Vs-You-Vs-Me'.
I find Soctt Andersons vocals consistent throughout the entire album. Yes it is more alternative rock but don't be put off by being classified as a label when it comes to what you listen to. This is a very enjoyable cd.
The tracks, Paraylzed, Falling On, and Taking To The Walls are outstanding in terms of more of the rocking type tracks.
However, this is only a treat before we get some real amazing vocals on some of the more acoustic type tracks.
Real bonus to the CD are the following:
* I'll Keep Your Memory Vague. 5/5
"This won't break your heart, But I just think it could, coz I haven't tried as hard as I should..to..to seperate you from everything I do...but I would never wanna come between us 2" - This entire line is the best vocal I've heard this year for an intro.
* Window Song 5/5
"All The Windows are playing their game...we won't see outisde again...til I ride all the fog away...I'm putting words in their place...but all of the fog is erased & I write all the words I never said"
* Talking To The Walls
-Excellent Intro & again great lyrics. i.e. "Look at the shape I'm in, talking to the walls again'
They have staying power, for the people that have mocked this album, it's been unfair, bands need to evolve.
I would definitely like to extend my gratitude of thanks to Finger Eleven, they put out an album I can really relate to.
Come tour in Auckland, NZ some time.

(3.5 stars) Disappointing follow up to Ten.......2007-06-19
Now, there are some very good songs on Vs. Plenty, in fact. The folk-rockers Daughter and Elderly Woman etc. are among my favorites, along with straight-up rockers like Go, Rearviewmirror and the politically themed Dissident. Now when I first heard this, it was my favorite PJ record. A second listen, though, reveals a few of its key problems. Animal lifts the riff right from Evenflow; and there's some amateurish screamfests (Rats, Blood, Leash) that are just one headache after another. I don't mind screaming if it's used tastefully, but if it's your entire song... blah. Then there's the issue of the two "extremely liberal" songs, W.M.A and Glorified G. Now, I consider myself a liberal, so I agree with both songs' viewpoints. The problem is that neither of them are any good - the former is just atmospheric blah, the latter is another "ironic" riff-fest. And I can't help but feeling... well, indifferent to the closing Indifference. It just doesn't mean a thing to me.
The "strong half" of this record is strong enough for it to warrant a recommendation. But one thing's for sure: this is NOT Ten.

Outstanding Rock Album.......2007-05-19
It's a toss up for this reviewer which of Pearl Jam's first 2 albums is the better one. Ten and Vs. are different and you can sense that Vs. is a wee bit more commercial but that doesn't stop this from achieving gem status. Packed with hits like Animal, Daughter, Dissident and the like, this is not a good album, it's GREAT. If you are a Pearl Jam fan who caught on later you might be a little surprised because nearly everything they have done since their first 2 albums hasn't been that fabulous, but you owe it to yourself to pick up this gem, crank up those headphones and enjoy early 90s grunge rock like it was meant to be heard!!!
***** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Great Album.......2007-05-07
All I have to say is this:
Just listening to "Go," the first track, gets me so pumped to be listening to Pearl Jam.
You'll be hooked after 1 song, I promise.
Seriously sick stuff........2007-04-27
This rocks! Its the best. If you like Pearl Jam you either own this or should be ordering it right now. More fluid than Ten and less out there than Vitology or No Code this could, dare I say is there best album. From beginning to end you'll throw your head around and maybe other stuff too.

John Williams' lovely and moving score for the sixth Star Wars film brings thirty years of collaborating on George Lucas' beyond-popular intergalactic franchise to a close. (Is this really the end of Star Wars? Can't Lucas and Williams work together on a prequel to these prequels? Let us hope so, and that Jar Jar Binks is nowhere near it.) As this music accompanies the most exciting Star Wars film in many a moon, the soundtrack itself is more fun, more evil, more nasty and bumpy. Many of the heroic, anthemic themes woven throughout Episode Three: Revenge of the Sith will necessarily be familiar to any fan of the series, from the "Imperial March" to the main theme. It's remarkable how stirring the latter can be, no matter how many times you've heard it, and even for those who do not have all their money invested in S.W. memorabilia. There is a lot of new music here, and the lush, extensive range of both Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra is on display, most notably in the menacing, percolating "General Grievous" and the rousing "New Hope" end theme. --Mike McGonigal

Star Wars: A Musical Journey (2005) (V).......2007-06-21
product: Star Wars: A Musical Journey (2005) (V), included as bonus disc in Episode III soundtrack.
The bonus dvd with this soundtrack was the reason I purchased. I enjoy film soundtracks, and science fiction, but this dvd was a real highlight for me. I got the soundtrack cd out of the local library. The cd was missing from the case, but I found this wonderful dvd instead that I went out to purchase later.
With optional segments of dialog from Ian McDiarmid, this film is a stunning visual and musical overview of the full epic story of episodes I-VI of Star Wars. For those of us who felt that eps. IV-VI fell short of our expectations, this film presents them well as parts of the whole story. The Musical Journey also stands as a summary of the entire SW opus for someone who is not familiar with the Star Wars characters and plot. Highly recommended.
Options: no subtitles or other options.
Not one of his bests, but very close.......2007-05-21
The Episode III soundtrack is very good. Not great, but very, very good. You can tell that Williams is getting old, but he still manages to weave together a very memorable score.
My favorite tracks are "Battle of the Heroes," "Anakin's Betrayal," Palpatine's teachings, "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan," and the "Immolation Scene."
The others are very good as well, but these are especially nice. "Battle of the Heroes" is Dual of the Fates for Revenge of the Sith. "Anakin's Betrayal" is a very sad track that is, in my opinion, one of William's most powerful pieces. "Palpatine's Teachings" is really, really neat. It's very dark and moody, a perfect piece for the evil emperor. The only weird thing is the end. "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan" is the action piece that plays during the battles of Anakin and Obi-Wan, and Yoda and the Emperor. Finally, "The Immolation Scene" is another sad piece, even more so than "Anakin's Betrayal."
Although I really like this CD, there are some things that are missing (as usual). First, the whole sequence where the droids are looking for Obi-Wan after he was shot. You see Obi-Wan in his ship with Senator Organa on the Hologram (or whatever it is), and Obi-Wan says that his clones turned on him. That was some pretty awesome music that OF COURSE was left out of the CD. Then there was Dual of the Fates in the movie, but completely absent from the CD. And probably the most annoying was that whole piece of music before Obi-Wan and Anakin fight. It was so touching and sad and I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY LEFT IT OUT! Absolutely amazing. Also, did anyone notice that some little bits were cut out? For example, in Anakin vs. Obi Wan, they cut out about a second or two of choir. What?! What the heck is with that? It's when Anakin is running on the long thing and jumps on the droid on the lava. Also, there was some pretty cool drumming when you see Yoda and the Emperor fighting, and you can see the whole stadium (the big room). There's also drumming in "Enter Lord Vader" that is muted in the soundtrack.
Oh well...if I'm going to collect movie scores, I'm going to have to get used to the fact that in almost all cases there's not going to be every bit of music. I've experienced this in both Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park I (there was very little left out on this score), and almost everything else. At the moment, I'm just waiting for the 22nd, for the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 soundtrack. It's gonna be amazing.

John Williams' finest work.......2007-04-20
There is little more I can say that hasn't already been said about the soundtrack to Episode 3, especially what Amazon contributor Dan Mohr wrote in his review of the soundtrack on 2/2/2006. His review captured almost all the thoughts, feelings, and emotions I had when I first listened to the soundtrack, and was, IMO, the best review of John Williams' greatest masterpiece.
Having said that, I will say that few soundtracks have ever so perfectly captured the underlying emotional currents of their respective movie; in the case of ROTS, the contemporaneous tragedies of Anakin's fall to the Dark Side, the extermination of the Jedi, and the rise of the oppressive Empire. The listener is confronted with the depth and totality of the evil that has beset the entire galaxy to a degree that the film could not reach in only 2 hours.
Bravo, Dan Mohr, and BRAVO John Williams!
A Great Conclusion to the Prequel Trilogy.......2007-04-07
This is a great work of art. I rank it 4th among Star Wars soundtracks after A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and The Phantom Menace. I had a hard deciding which I thought was better, The Phantom Meance or Revenge of the Sith, but I decided that The Phantom Menace lays the foundation for so much that is in this soundtrack and is thus the more masterful work. But that doesn't mean that this score still isn't great. Every piece is a thrill to listen to and pace never lets up. "Battle of the Hereos" is an amazing piece and the rendition of the "Funeral Theme" from Episoded I captures the film's tragety magnificently. Also I do not think John Williams could have portrayed the Jedi's extinction more perfectly than he did in "Anakin's Betrayal". This is without a doubt the best score of 2005 and one of the best of the decade.
Williams is slumming it.......2007-04-01
Williams's score for Revenge of the Sith is almost entirely overbearing, lacking any emotional subtlety. The music is overcomplicated and even a bit confusing, especially in the tracks that correspond to action sequences in the movie. His overuse of choral tracks and vocals is too bombastic and irritating to be listened to without the explosions and laser blasts of the soundtrack to soften them. (Yes, this music is actually softened by the sounds of warfare.) Worst of all, much of the music has simply been lifted from earlier scores. At times his self-imitation was so blatant that I actually wondered whether the editor who had complied this score had made a mistake and I was listening to The Empire Strikes Back or A New Hope. Also suffers from not including the entire score, in some cases cutting out musical segues in obvious and awkward ways.

Different but good.......2007-07-13
This CD is an attempt to add a little depth to a rapper that has had success with everything else. The beats and lyrics are all up to par, nothing too exciting but nothing horribly bad either. I don't think too many people can complain with the appearances...although Eminem's track was a little weak. (I like the Busta comment, its like everyone is still hanging on one Nas line. Doubtful Rhymes is murdering anyone, if it wasn't for Dre & Aftermath he probably wouldn't even be on this CD.)
A good CD all the way around, certainly worth the $10-15 to buy it or the time to download it. Not the best CD but it also is by far not the worst. Just get it and stop hating on T.I. already.

Watered down beats and TI talking the predictable same old same old, brings down the quality of one of this summers most anticipated albums. To me only 4 or 5 cuts are even bumping.
To his credit TI holds his own with Eminem and JayZ, but Busta murders him on his own track.

Very satisfied.......2007-03-20
The sound quality is quite good and composition is consistent. If you like somewhat campy 60s music, you'll like this.
Red Baron.......2007-03-09
The CD contained a lot more than I had expected, as I had only bought it for one track -Li'll Red Riding Hood - which was also featured as a track on a Bruce Willis film.
Great for nostalgia fans of the 1970's
Television Music.......2007-02-19
I love watching Snoopy specials or anything with Snoopy. This is great music!
Just as good as you remember!.......2007-01-21
My older brother mildly complained, in passing, a couple of weeks before Christmas that you just don't see any sign of Snoopy vs. the Red Baron these days, undoubtedly, he grumbled, because of the non-politically correct theme. He was waxing nostalgic over the "Christmas Bells" song in particular. It occurred to me that he'd just given me the perfect gift idea for him; one that he certainly wouldn't be expecting! I scoured the Christmas music sections at all the usual stores and was a little surprised (and totally disappointed) not to find the Snoopy CD I wanted. Thankfully it was easy to find here at Amazon, and I even could sample the songs to make sure I was getting the right album, as "Christmas Bells" was not the actual title of the song we liked (oh, like YOU never screwed up a song title!). The quality of the recordings is definitely not the greatest (no apparent attempt at remastering here, folks), but the smile on my brother's face as he listened to the CDs was more than worth it, especially when he finally reached his beloved "Christmas Bells", as it will always be known to him. The price was good, the shipping incredibly quick, and the trip back to childhood was a lot of fun. Good albums, both of them!
This is great.......2007-01-21
I got this just for Snoopy's Christmas but the whole cd is great.

The U.S. vs. John Lennon is neither a collection of outtakes like Acoustic nor a career-spanning retrospective like the Imagine: John Lennon soundtrack or one of his many greatest-hits collections. Instead, it's an album with a theme: Lennon the idealist, Lennon the peace activist, Lennon the leftist; but also Lennon the disillusioned and Lennon the harrassed--and, of course, Lennon the newly in love with Yoko Ono. (Her spirit is palpable on every track, even those without her voice.) No surprise, then, that most of the songs date from 1969 to 1972, drawing heavily from Plastic Ono Band and Imagine. Don't look here for primal tracks like "Cold Turkey" and "Mother," smash hits like "Whatever Gets You Through the Night," or comeback songs like "Watching the Wheels"--not fitting the themes of the documentary, they are rightly left off. And the only Beatles track present is, of course, "The Ballad of John and Yoko." There isn't much new here, either--only two of the tracks are unreleased, and one is just Imagine's "How Do You Sleep?" with the vocals removed. (It's nevertheless a highlight, as it focuses attention on George Harrison's delicious guest spot on slide guitar.) But if you're OK with that, this is a fine encapsulation--featuring classics like "Imagine" and "Instant Karma!" and less well known songs like "I Found Out" and "Scared"--of the period in Lennon's life when he was struggling to stay in the U.S. while also struggling to change it. --Benjamin Lukoff

A Nice Companion To Very Good Film.......2007-03-04
The album is not meant to be a "Best Of" compilation but, a soundtrack to the events featured in the film. as a collector of Beatles & solo material, this is a good soundtrack with a few songs not previously released.I recommend getting this album if your collector but the film is much more what the average fan should get & if need be, get this collection of songs featured in the film. Search Judemac forever on msn.

EXCELLENT CD!.......2007-01-11
Anyone who loves John Lennon will love this CD! It is AWESOME!
Gimme some truth, and give peace a chance!.......2007-01-10
Could truth and peace be more relevant today? This is a fantastic single-disc Lennon collection -- why? It includes not only INSTANT KARMA and IMAGINE, his two greatest post-Beatles songs, but also GIMME SOME TRUTH, which is also one of his best songs, and is almost never included on compilations. While neither JOHN SINCLAIR or ATTICA STATE are great songs, hearing John singing protest folk music is an excellent touch to this "political Lennon" compilation.
With the Cheney/Bush administration fighting an open-ended war for oil and world domination, John & Yoko waging peace against Nixon and the Vietnam War no longer sounds like a nostalgia trip. The White House today would make Goebbels blush, so GIMME SOME TRUTH is what the Democrats should be asking in the impeachment hearings before the war is expanded to Iran...
One reason I am so glad to see this collection is that I have no interest whatsoever in the Lennon "comeback" material of 1980, and this disc only includes one of those songs. SHAVED FISH, which came out in 1975, is an excellent single disc set which Lennon himself compiled, but it doesn't include GIMME SOME TRUTH. THE U.S. VS. JOHN LENNON is focused on a brief period in the late 1960s and early 1970s when Lennon was radicalized and produced some of his best music.
"Instant karma's gonna get you -- why on earth are you there when you're everywhere?"
Why?.......2007-01-09
I love John Lennon and ALL of his music. IF you do not own any of John's music then I suggest you buy the "Definitive Lennon" because it has more songs from his entire career. Not a bad album, no Lennon album is bad, but you can do better. Actually you should buy all of his albums becasue it is impossible to come up with the best of. Any song left off is a waste. You need to hear them all.

Not as good as the film..........2007-05-06
I remembered the music in the movie as being a little better than it actually is. I was a little disappointed in the CD.
disappointing.......2007-03-26
It just wasn't what I thought it would be and I personally didn't like it. But it is good music.
it's all about the Malagueña.......2004-12-01
i loved the movie and the music there is good. i really like the Malagueña so i learned how to play it on guitar. the song is great i enjoyed the movie as much as i enjoyed the sound track
Start to Finish, a Real Mexi-CAN of a Soundtrack.......2004-11-30
Alright, so the main reason I got the soundtrack was Pistolero by Juno Reactor,a real driving, pumped-up techno song. I started to get into the rest of the music on the soundtrack, and I find it an essential cd I carry along with me. The great thing about this soundtrack is you can listen in on Mexican traditional music and a glimpse of the culture, and still have some real badass-sounding guitar! Whatever you may think of the film, you can imagine the actors playing their parts in your head, since they play and sing in the soundtrack (as the first one). There is an aura in the music I can't put my finger on; there's a history, an old feel to it, but it lingers with new musical ideas. Kinda like the movie, in terms of making it. I agree fullheartedly with previous reviews: where the movie fails, the music fills in the gaps and expands on Mexican music, making the entire movie/soundtrack experience very deep and epic. I dunno, maybe I'm rambling, but I emphasize that this soundtrack adds culture and kickass to your collection, as it did mine.
Better than the movie!.......2004-11-21
When I first saw this film I was shocked at its total stupidity. I was a big fan of the first Desperado and this sequel completely choked my enthusiasm. One thing that was good about this film though was the music. I have to admit it, the music was excellent and in harmony with the motion picture. The best tracks on this CD are Traeme Paz, El Mariachi and Siente Mi Amor (Salma Hayek brings out the best in her sensuality in this song). I'm not a big fan of Latino music but some of these songs are so beautiful they deserve to be listened to. Yo Te Quiero and Cuka Rocka both are well known songs and excellent to dance to, while Flor Del Mal is a very nice and chilling ballad. This CD is a great addition to your music collection, don't hesitate to buy it.

Amazon.com essential recording
On this follow-up to Mothership Connection, George Clinton uncharacteristically sticks to the same funk-disco formula. Unlike most sequels, however, this 1977 work is nearly as compelling as the original. Check your brain at the door while Clinton feeds you infectious dance rhythms and irreverent lyrics that fuse anthemic chants with bizarre fairy tales and stream-of-consciousness ramblings. On "Wizard of Finance," Parliament returns to melodic 1960s soul while Clinton's hysterical lyrics are backed by soulful doowop-style vocals. "Flash Light" became a huge dance-floor hit but actually pales in comparison to the rest of the grooves. With talents including Bernie Worrell, Maceo Parker, and Fred Wesley on board, it's no wonder the profunk forces defeat the antifunk contingent. --Marc Greilsamer

Total P-Funk Package.......2007-07-02
This is George and the Funk Mob at the height of their game. Fat, funky baselines, heavy grooves and some of the funniest phrases ever uttered over music. I just wish the CD included the Overton Lloyd comic book and the Sir Nose poster that you got with the album back in the day...
Music for All Ages & Races, .......2007-06-04
This band is a band that defines how music can bring people together and show the power of music to do amazing positive things. While Jazz music might have caused white people to listen, Funk music forced white people to join in on the songs. Its hard to tell whether another band has been able to do that since Parliament, the band that is funk!
"Dance, sucka!".......2006-12-03
Really, who can resist bursting out laughing when George shouts that line out in the middle of Flash Light? Not me, that's for sure. This is a classic, arguably the best Parliament album (though one could make a case for Mothership Connection). Like Mothership Connection, it's a concept album that doesn't take itself even remotely seriously. On the contrary, it's a riot.
First off is Bop Gun (Endangered Species). What a song! Funky bassline, great ensemble vocals, cool horn chart and an awesome fake ending... classic stuff there. Then comes the first of the two ten-minute grooves: Sir Nose D'voidoffunk (Pay Attention - B3M), which introduces ol' Smell-O-Vision himself, Sir Nose D'Voidoffunk. This song is arguably the funniest in Parliament's catalogue, and certainly one of the funkiest. The clever, charming Wizard of Finance is a more Motown-sounding song, with a great bassline and horn part. It's funny, too!
Now for Funkentelechy, arguably Parliament's best song EVER. It's a monster eleven-minute groove that'll have you dancing and laughing at the same time. The basic concept of the song: choose funk (which stands for all that is good) over the fake, material things in the world. Maybe I'm overanalyzing, but whatever. It's great. Placebo Syndrome is probably the weakest song here, but it's still pretty good, with a solid groove. The Placebo Syndrome, if you were curious, is disco (which stands for all that is fake and material). The whole thing closes out with Flash Light, which revives the Nose. This ended up their biggest hit, a masterpiece with great bassline, a hilarious chant taken from a Bar Mitzvah, cool fake ending, and Clinton yelling out "Dance, sucka!" - two words that sum this album up perfectly.
Ah, yeah... THIS is how ya play funk!
How's Your Funk en-telech-y? How's Your Funk entelechy?.......2006-09-13
Yo this is the mood control....Need I say anything else? This masterpiece of dance/funk and just plain fun camE out hardbody!
It starts off with Parliament/Glenn Goins "On Guard, Defend Yourself!". The Pfunk was letting you know that if you are devoid of funk, you are gettin' hit with the Bop Gun! And the ever famous Sir Nose D'Voidoffunk. You got to be out of your natural mind or at least from out of space to come up with those lyrics! The music is smooth and Bootsy Collins just ripped that Bass line! Now outside of all that and the never dying Flashlight, my all time favorite is "Funkentelechy". Parliament's musical performance on this was slammin' From the Drums/Bass/Guitars setting it off and Ray Davis' "Yo' this is the mood control......."sets you in a place where you are on the Mothership chillin'. I know, musically, I've been there! You really need to sit back and let this cut do it to your earhole! It is like being on the Mothership kicked-back with some Kool-Aid playin' spades and tellin' "Your mother is so fat" jokes! Funkentelechy is not just a song but an experience----"How's you Funkentelechy?=-----FUNK ON---YO HO!!!!!
More Funk Magic.......2006-03-21
Parliament's superlative follow up to The Mothership Connection.
The finest blend of funk, rock & dance music, at a time when James Brown was going through a dry period and Sly had pimped himself out.
Clinton, Collins, Worrell & Co. were truly unsung magicians, who deserved a lot more publicity then they received through their career. They are hardly known outside the US, UK and Australia. Yet they are probably the biggest influence on rap and hip-hop music.

Album Description
The sound of New York's Gogol Bordello is a combination of reckless fervor, foot-stomping rhythms, outlandish lyrics and a circus of surreal stimuli that leaves progressive minded music fans spinning in the their wake. Drawing upon Gypsy, Slavic and punk-rock traditions, Gogol Bordello is the genesis of a new aesthetic that bridges the gap between Eastern European and Gypsy influence with Western culture. This new direction in music is singer/lyricist/visionary Eugene Hutz's passion, who uses the term "Ukrainian Gypsy Punk Cabaret" to describe their singular sound. "The title of the new album sums of the spirit of the band and the people around it. Gogol Bordello is about creating new musical possibilities. We all come from a very distinct tradition of music that is largely driven by Eastern European sounds, visions and colors as well as punk rock and street culture. We're a multicultural unit with an underdog energy and a sense of humor, although a pretty twisted one," says Hutz.
Customer Reviews:
Versus Irony.......2006-06-15
Balkan punk band Gogol Bordello made it big in the last year with their latest album, a movie cameo and lots of good press.
But like many bands who find success, Gogol Bordello actually have had a number of solid gypsy-punk albums before this. And "Multi Kontra Culti vs. Irony" is right up there among their best -- sprightly, energetic and raw. It's completely insane and quite entertaining.
It starts off with a stop-start accordion melody that bobs in and out, until it's joined by a grinding guitar and frontman Eugene Hutz. "I walked into the bar/a man came up to me and said/you know the older you will get/the more PERVERTED you will get!" he sings in his heavy accent. Sounds like he's relishing every moment of this.
It sets the tone for the entire album -- gypsy music with a punk flair (or vice versa). "Ocurrence on the Border [Hopping on a Pogo-Gypsy Stick]" is a whirlwind of fast electric guitar and accordion, while "Let's Get Radical" is a grimy, slow-burning rock song, light on the gypsy and heavy on the punk.
But quite a few songs are heavy on the traditional elements: "Through the Roof 'n' Underground" is a slower number with a catchy tune, and "Hats Off to Kolpakoff" sounds like a rogue fiddler playing a little ditty on the streets. And the exhilarating "Baro Faro" is probably the best on this album: a nine minute stretch of wild fiddling and clashing rock rhythms.
You definitely have to admit that Gogol Bordello doesn't sound like any other rock band. They don't even sound like other Eastern-European-influenced bands like Balkan Beat Box or Beirut. They sound, in short, like your basic Balkan folk band that was forcibly conquered by a hyperactive clown punk.
So don't be surprised by what you hear -- a colourful clash of rock and folk, with electric guitar and smashing percussion duking it out with fiddles and accordion. It's that way from beginning to end (except for a few interludes of folkier music). The actual melodies are often traditional-sounding, but played with jagged punk fervour and twisted edges.
Eugene Hutz has a way of letting rip at machine-gun speed, or drawling the songs out at length. It's a bit hard to tell what he's singing though; his accent is as thick as a marble floor. But if you can decipher the lyrics, you'll find that they are A) funny, B) weird, C) profane and D) insane. Don't bother finding out the words -- just listen to that raw, howling voice.
If you can remember the difficult title ("Multi Kontra Culti vs. Irony"), then check out one of Gogol Bordello's most cohesive, solid albums. Worth checking out for anyone who loves colourful, flavourful punk.
one of very few cd's i've bought in a long time.......2005-03-29
After hearing them live in one of the clubs in Boston I loved this band especially for their energy. After the show I decided to buy the cd. The cd is far from displaying the energy I saw on stage, however i'd say it's one of my favorite cd's. The lyrics don't make much sense and the guy's accent is really heavy, however the music overall is great.
Something Different..........2004-04-21
Being a fan of mostly punk rock music... I decided to give this a try. This record is highly entertaining, very fun and very original. I didnt even know that "gypsy-punk" existed untill I heard this. The musicianship is quite good as well. Chanty, boot stompin' songs with accordians and fiddles. I like it. I reccomend this if you like the more folky brands of punk rock (ie Swingin' Utters, Tossers, etc.) So, if you're willing to give something different a try, go ahead and pick this up.
If only this captured the energy of the show ..........2004-03-29
Saw these guys play live last night. Never heard of them before then. I bought the CD from one of the band members after the show and jumped around in the car all the way back home. Biggest disappointment: the CD doesn't quiet capture the wild energy of the live show, where people couldn't help but to jump around like crazy and drum away on nearby tables. It's still a cool CD though, I definitely don't regret buying it.
Crazy Fast Punk Accordian.......2003-06-11
Wow. this is different. Punk ukranian avant garde stuff.
I really like the different instruments and the energy of this group. They are touring this summer in Europe, hopefully next year I can catch em in the US.
