Product Description

BROKEN BRIDE: A new rock opera from Ludo An epic love story told through music you have to hear to believe, "Broken Bride" is the story of a man (the Traveler) whose wife dies in a car accident in 1989. In deep mourning, he becomes obsessed with finding a way to go back and undo that day. After fifteen years of toil and isolation, he has built a machine to do just that. Miscalculations however, send the Traveler far off course and into an adventure spanning from the Dawn of Time to the Apocalypse. Confronted with unimaginable horrors, he longs only to return to that fateful morning in May, but ultimately finds himself faced with a terrible choice - between saving his wife and saving humanity. With huge hooky choruses and a relentless driving pace, Ludo jams a record store's worth of influences into five tracks of genre-bending narrative. "Broken Bride" is a 28-minute journey through time you'll want to take over and over again.

5 out of 5 stars MASTERPIECE.......2005-12-15

My girlfriend let me borrow this CD and told me to pick a time to listen to the entire thing, unbothered, and uninterupted. I had already heard "Part I" a few times on the local radio station and already knew i loved it, but thats all the Ludo i'd heard at that point. So on my way to work one day I gave the CD a spin. I SWEAR the CD did not leave my CD player for a week. I was mesmorized. I have never heard anything like this, and may never again. The tale of love, loss, destruction, traveling through time and space all in the name of love. A rock opera in the essence of Pink Floyd's the Wall, and easily just as good. The emotion and passion in each part of every song on the album still gives me chills (and I've heard it through at least 50 times), and by the end the raw emotion of the music and story still chokes me up. Andrew, Tim, Tim, Matt, and Marshall have done it again. No. They've gone beyond the call of duty. I had the pleasure of getting to see the entire set live a few days ago here in thier hometown of St. Louis, and I was BLOWN AWAY. This is what music is all about!!!! Keep up the good work, Ludo, because you'll be rockin it BIG TIME really soon. I'm just glad I got to meet them when I did. I'm getting chills just thinking about it.

5 out of 5 stars An unbelievable post-punk rock opera.......2005-09-28

There's no question that "Broken Bride" is a rock opera, but the music has more in common with "American Idiot" than similar narrative concept albums by The Who or Meatloaf. It tells the story of a man who build a time machine to prevent the death of the woman he loves. The machine malfunctions, sending him back to prehistory and forward to the Rapture. Ultimately, the traveler must make a choice that will decide whether he saves his wife or all of humanity.

When I first read about the concept, I laughed out loud at how ridiculous and overwrought it was. By the last song, I had to keep myself from crying. That's not what you'd necessarily expect from Ludo, whose self-titled first release positioned it as a Weezer-ish alternative rock band with a sense of humor. Broken Bride features the same emo-tinged vocals and hooky rock, but the band evades any attempt at genre categorization in its second outing.

In fact, the album's range is wide enough that there may be some moments that are too hard or too soft, depending on how you like your rock. But every genre twist and turn is perfectly executed, lushly produced, and imaginatively composed. It's an easy album to love, and one you'll want to be sure to listen from beginning to end.

5 out of 5 stars A beautiful mix of surreal imagery created through electronic beats........2005-12-03

Less is more in all aspects of this offering by I am jen. The Broken EP is made up of four flawless songs that left me wanting more, to the point where I went hunting online to see if I am jen had any other offerings available.

This EP contains some of the most powerful electronic work I've had the pleasure of hearing lately. Jen Scaturro, the sole member of I am jen, has mixed these tracks to perfection. The beats are complex but not overwhelming. Each track has a strong life of its own, and none of it feels repetitive, although that may be simply because we only get four tracks.

Scaturro's voice over these beats feels natural even when being distorted; as the writer, she knows these songs better than anyone, and it comes through in the natural flow. Her voice is haunting and smooth.

The only issue I can see with this album is the order of the tracks. The disc starts off with the strongest two tracks, "Broken In All The Right Places" and "At The Same Time." This placement is great for industry folks, but Scaturro may lose the average listener on the other tracks. Once again though, I think that on a full-length effort, I am jen wouldn't have a problem keeping it strong throughout. I hate to see good albums go downhill simply because all of the good songs are crunched together at the very start.

The Broken EP has a strangely familiar feeling. Although it has a distinct sound, it feels fairly reminiscent of Moby's Play, which will inevitably invite comparisons. Scaturro should be proud. It took Moby many attempts to create an album as flawless as Play, and she has recreated that same calming feel in electronica. This genre is fairly rare in the mainstream, and artists who can pick up that feel are in great demand.

With electronica and trip hop always being a fairly underground genre, I hope that I am jen gets the attention that she so dearly deserves. The Broken EP is a beautiful mix of surreal imagery created through electronic beats. It would be a shame for this woman to go unnoticed. I sincerely hope there is a full-length album in the works, because four songs are just not enough.

    They played full volume til 3am. They hated me but still let me stay there. The lead singers girlfriend thought I willed their dog to commit suicide. I hate her. I digress. Their music was loud as hell. Shawn (spelling right?) and the band were loud and the neighborhood around South Van Ness and 25th in San Francisco paid dearly. I now have tinnitus. Any questions?

    This album was the epidomy of the alternative movement unfortuantly it was released at the wrong time. The band had heart and respect for it's listeners, which came through in there sound. Go back to your teenage stomping grounds and listen loudly.

    It's rare that I will purchase an album having heard not so much as a chorus of one track first, or, at the very least, without it having come highly recommended by a trustworthy source (ie someone who does NOT own anything by Meatloaf or the Backstreet Boys). Nonetheless, while shuffling through the miscellaneous "T" section at a local record store, when I came across the title "The Alcoholic Father of My Inner Child" I couldn't resist checking it out. Nearly five years later, having sold many CDs in the name of "eating this week", I am still happily listening to my original copy on a regular basis. Resting on a solid foundation of well written songs, static distortion, interwoven with orchestrated feedback and wrapped thoroughly in postgrunge-artschool-punk charm, Tina Age 13 delivers: particularly where so many others have failed. This band has soul. Sure, the singer might make choir teachers across the country cringe, and a subtitle for the album could easily be "A Study in Power Chords"...it doesn't matter. These boys have it. In the way that Nirvana had it. In the way that Sonic Youth still does. Unfortunately, I've been unable to find any trace of Tina Age 13's existence aside from my copy of their EP. It will have to suffice, and I'm sure that it will. It already has.

    5 out of 5 stars This is how you do an EP.......2004-04-18

    This is an excellent acoustic EP from a normally hard rock band. They really prove their songwriting skills when they break down some songs from their last full-length CD, "Fireproof." Rob's vocals are great, and the songs sound very good, even as four of the tracks are recorded live. This EP is definitely a good buy, whether you like hard rock, or if you like softer stuff. If you like Pillar's harder rocking stuff, the last song on this EP, "Bring Me Down," (this one is not live or acoustic), is just what you are looking for. It is an amazing song to hold you over until Pillar's next full-length, "Where Do We Go From Here," which comes out on June 15, 2004. I would go so far as to say that this is Pillar's best hard rock song to date.

    5 out of 5 stars Amazing Acoustic Stuff.......2004-03-28

    Pillar really showcases their talent in this CD. With four cuts live and unplugged, a hit rock song, an added acoustic studio version of "Further From Myself," and enhanced DVD features (including the video for "Further From Myself") these guys absolutely shine. The passion and intimacy of these songs really come out when Pillar breaks them down into an acoustic form. For instance, the great rock song "A Shame" sounds fantastic when they break it down and do it without all of the crunching guitars. The passion in Rob's voice bring chills to my body when he sings, "Don't be afraid to take a stand. / It's a shame to be ashamed - to be ashamed of the One that we should glorify. / You are afraid of the price you'll pay. / Will you be strong or walk away? / You're reasons are runnin' thin. / All that's left to do is give in. / Inside this generation of sin, there's only one place to begin. / And it's at the starting line - or you will be left behind. / You say it's hard to believe in something you can't see. / A choice you make today will affect you eternally."

    The vocals and the lyrics really stand out throughout this whole EP. Rob has an excellent voice. This really shows in "Light at My Feet," which is based off of the bible verse that says "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Rob says on an enhanced feature on this CD that he tried to bring that theme "to a new generation in a new way." Another way that you can tell how good these guys perform live is that the live version of "Further From Myself" is just as strong as the acoustic studio version of it (the studio version was the single). This song is a great ballad which is based on James 4:8, which says "Draw near to the Lord and he will draw near to you." With so much emotion, Rob sings to God, our maker and creator, "I'm further, further from myself / When I'm next to You / When I run to You / ...With You inside my heart You...have erased [my] selfishness and foolish pride. / And I admit that when I submit to You, I can see all of the selfish things I do."

    Fireproof, the hit rock single, is the last acoustic song that they do unplugged. This one is another great rock song that sounds really well in acoustic form. If all of this is not enough, the band saves the best for last. To close out the CD, a new hard rock song (at the time of the 2003 release), "Bring Me Down," is a song done in the studio. A remixed version of this song is on the 2004 album "Where Do We Go From Here," and became a huge hit to Christian rock radio, in addition to a decent amount of play on mainstream rock radio. Let me tell you, if you like rock music, this EP is worth the money for this song alone. "Bring Me Down" became my new favorite song when I got this EP. I couldn't stop listening to it. It is so infectious and it has everything Pillar is known for as a rock band.

    In addition to the great songs on this EP, there are also some great extras when you pop this CD into your computer. Along with the video for the hit single, "Further From Myself," the enhanced features include a great photo gallery of the band, and song explanations by Rob. So, overall, this is a great EP, especially for the low price.

      Snares' roots are in breakcore after all. Infolepsy is hardly one of his most subtle releases and those enjoying the darker more experimental side of him displayed in the likes of Winter In The Belly Of A Snake will be disappointed. In fact, even compared with some of his most aggressive work (Higgins Ultra Low Track Glue Funk Hits, Winnipeg Is A Frozen Sh*thole) Infolepsy has a certain raw, less refined edge to it. This would make more sense if it was one of his earliest releases but this little EP is quite recent (well, late 2004). I don't know if it was because he was in a rush to do it or because he felt like doing something more in your face and, compared to a lot of his stuff, stripped down (2004 was a very experimental year for him with Hugh Chrome Cylinder Box and Horse And Goat and much of his aggressive work is programmed very carefully with great attention to detail) but the result is a great little EP. While I'd put Winnipeg Is A Frozen Sh*thole ahead of Infolepsy if you want the best of his most gabba driven work, Infolepsy is highly recommended for those who like their electronic music aggressive and noisy whilst still presenting a degree of thoughtfulness and a variety of beats and sounds.

      5 out of 5 stars If you've aquired the taste - You'll love this EP.......2006-02-20

      Venetian Snare's "infolepsy ep" is a digital adrenal gland vigorously crushed into an espresso and drank repeatedly: Crush, mix, drink, repeat. After numerous cycles and a resulting lack of sleep you don't feel quite right, but you don't want to stop: Crush, mix, drink. There are some strong tracks on this EP that will serve as a good introduction for those new to the snares.

      Strong Track::twelve
      The first song, twelve, is a savage song about, the number twelve. Sesame Street comes to mind but I hesitate to picture the animals that would inhabit this digit teaching street and the children that would be glued to this particular set. The song is almost groovy, having more detectable rhythm than a typical Venetian Snare track; a very friendly introduction to our fiendish friend Aaron Funk.

      Stand-out Track::where's bill?
      "Where's bill?" takes clips from the movie Kill Bill and blends them up into a high energy drink that is invigorating and even a little refreshing. Listening, left me with fragmented images of our lovely Uma in yellow biker outfit, snow on the ground, and splashes of blood everywhere; flash, flash, flash. This is Venetian Snares at his best, not easy to approach but once the taste is acquired it will become a favored snack.

      I Like 12 Stones, alot. Good Average Rock, nothing out of the ordinary, yet nothing Boring. 12 Stones is a good band, they should lose the "Christian Overtones", but I like 12 Stones alot. I Have both their Albums, and listen to em on a fairly usual basis.

      But why even bother getting this EP? You can download those Songs... Illegally might I add... and then if you like em... buy the Album! They make more money offa that, so they shouldnt complain about you Sampling their Stuff.

      Buy The Self Titled Debut "12 Stones" For a good sampling. 12 Stone fans would enjoy their newest Album More, Potter's Feild. Not as accessible, but still a great album in my opinion.

      I give it 2 Stars Because 12 Stones is a good band deserving a Four... but the Album (which I am rating... not the band... Im rating the Album)sucks. No Point in getting this Album (EP). Unles syou collect every disc 12 Stones Puts out... then get it. And once you get it, the commit suicide because that's lame. haha.

      Get the Real CDs. Not this lame EP.
