There is a slight learning curve as you learn what the software "wants" you to do, but once you get it, it's SO superior to pencil & paper! I primarily use it to do simple lead sheets, but it will do so much more. I had an issue that the manual & online support didn't address (although it is excellent) and got prompt, friendly answers from Finale Tech Support. Highly recommended!

Finale PrintMusic is a useful,pratic software...first time I had a trouble during scaning,but now is OK! Iam very happy to use it.Very good choise for Mac users.....

5 out of 5 stars Simple enough for my Daughter.......2007-01-20

This review is not thorough; instead, I just wanted to let potential buyers know that we purchased this software as a Christmas present for our eleven-year-old daughter and she has been able to use the basic features to play self-composed songs on her keyboard see them appear as printable sheet music on the computer--without assistance. She is very pleased and says this is her favorite gift.... I had read several reviews and wanted something simple and bug-free enough for my daughter to use without a tremendous learning curve. I also wanted a program which would produce the notes on the computer screen in real-time as she played--which this program does (and several others do not). So far we are pleased, but I have not yet gotten to delve into all the capabilities of this software and test them.
Note that you will need a USB/MIDI adapter cable--not included. For this we also purchased the USB Teach Me Piano Kit from Amazon which comes with the needed cable/adapter plus some software we might use to start our younger kids on piano with.

This is a very nice program, the Tool boxes around your composition are neatly organized and clear to see. Very professional. I was pleased to see the selections of Instruments & voices etc to get started right away. No sounds from the gods but plenty enough to compose in my opinion. Its simple and fast, you know how it is, when the idea flows, you don't need any holdups. At least I work in haste and have to go fast before the moment escapes.... The Keyboard and my Mac work flawless together. Plug and play with a simple Keyboard controller and your good to go. It will take midi signals and notate as you go along and play. It will however not function as a midi playback sequencer for your instruments and various keyboards. It also offers scanning of sheetmusic with Smartscore and MicNotator where you play into the Mic. A small booklet and a quick reference guide come with the package. I like this Company a lot (btw you can download the Finale Notepad for free!!!) and I hope they will come out with a new Allegro version soon. To read more info visit finalemusic.com.
