The one-piece book and binder stand is made of light-weight polypropylene plastic, using a color impregnated injection mold process. There are no components to put together or get lost. The support structure "pops up" from a central plate and folds back down when not in use. The entire book and binder stand measures 8 3/4" (222-mm) by 8 3/4. In a collapsed or flat position the book and binder stand is a mere 1/4" (6-mm) thick. BookBuddy is great not only for students, but for anyone who reads or needs to prop books or other things.

I purchased BookBuddy because I, too, was tired of having to hold or prop my books at an angle to read, especially when my hands were busy at the keyboard, holding writing utensils, holding forks, etc. I looked at all sorts of holders from wooden to wire, but I wanted something not only easy to use, but portable. I happened upon BookBuddy and along with a product called BookMate, I have what I need, plus.

As for this product... BookBuddy is lightweight, but can do some heavyweight work. (I am even currently using it to hold my laptop at an angle off the table allowing for clear airflow under the computer while I type this review. Yes, on the laptop's keyboard.)

This one-piece, easy-to-use, no-real-assembly-required book holder is good for holding all sizes of books from larger text/cookbooks to paperbacks as well as other items. The design is so simple yet it does exactly what it says it will and does it well. I have found I can flip it and use it at different angles depending on the book (item) I am trying to prop. I can't tell you how it works holding heavy/heavier items, but for my needs it has been great.

As mentioned, BookBuddy's design is simple. It is made of plastic, but is pretty sturdy. With care, I can see it lasting long enough to get more than your money's worth of use. Flat, it is about a quarter-inch thick. It can be stored in drawers or binders or totes/briefcases or folders, (or under the seat in my car), taking up less space than a legal pad or magazine. The lightweight portability has allowed me to take it everywhere, including restaurants. It snaps up in place quickly for use.

Although I do use it to prop my laptop, I use BookBuddy mainly for holding my paperbacks so I can read hands-free while eating. My only issue with it is that it does not hold regular-sized paperbacks as well as it does larger paperbacks and hardbacks. The angles are fine, but holding the pages flat enough to read and allowing for easy page-turning is another story. (Nothing's perfect.) As mentioned, I use it in conjunction with a product called BookMate, a paperback book holder I came across. BookMate holds books flat enough to read while BookBuddy props books at the necessary angle for hands-free use. It has quickly become almost indispensable.

Another plus is that it is easy to clean. Because it's plastic, BookBuddy can be immersed in water and even put in the dishwasher (though I haven't tried that with the heat-dry function). This is especially good for those who use it in the kitchen to prop cookbooks or recipe cards, etc.

BookBuddy does all of this at an affordable price. I am extremely satisfied and will be a customer for a long, long time.

This thing is amazing. A simple design that does its job almost perfectly. I'm a law student, and was getting tired of either holding a massive law casebook up to a comfortable height for reading or craning my neck to look down at a book on a table. Instead, I found this.

Some products do their job so well and yet seem so simple that you can't imagine why any other product design is even attempted. This is one of them. This product is an example of what our patent system is supposed to encourage!

This product came to me exactly one week after I ordered it online. I was a little worried when it arrived in my MAILBOX, but I tested it right away and it's still doing a great job!!! The textbook I'm using is 7.5 inches by 10 inches when it's closed and weighs about 5+ pounds, but even though the BookBuddy is half it's size, it's holding it well since my book has a hard cover. You probably couldn't use it to prop up a floppy-covered notebook. There's really only one angle you can use if you want the pages held down but it's a very comfortable angle for me! You could lower the angle to another fixed level but you wouldn't be able to hold the pages down (not as important if it's in the middle third of the textbook where the weight of the pages on either side balance each other out). I would've loved to have had this in school! It's quite portable and even has holes so that you could carry it around in a 3-ring binder. This would be a very inexpensive present for students of all ages and it comes in a wide variety of colors.

I searched for a simple, sturdy, reasonably priced and highly effective book stand for weeks. I've looked at pricey wood stands to poorly designed plastic stands with metal attachments. I bought the BookBuddy based on the student reviews and I have not been disappointed! I am a graduate student and a business consultant. I tote the BookBuddy to school, work and my home office without missing a beat. I love the ease and portability. You could pay more and get a lot less; buy a BookBuddy and you won't need to do either.
