Targus design quality has slipped.......2007-06-12

A new 17" laptop forced me to trade my 4-year-old Targus 15.4" for this one. I'm disappointed. My chief complaints:

1. The whole thing feels less substantial that the old one. The shoulder straps are thinner and less comfortable;

2. Some of the pockets that the 15.4" had are now gone. This thing is cavernous and yet has fewer storage pockets than the older, smaller model. This results in a LOT of wasted space!

3. I can't get over the "de-featuring" that has taken place! The front pocket is now missing the little clip I used to use for my car keys; the front flap is now missing the shock cords that secured the sides of the front flap to the bag, so now the items I used to store in that space fall out the sides; even the side pocket is now missing the little sub-pocket that used to be in there.

4. Minor point, but the top carrying handle is secured with thinner nylon, which makes if flop and twist too easily.

I'm returning this bag and buying another brand. This thing just looks and feels cheap, with fewer options for organizing its contents than the older bag. I recommend against it.

I purchased this backpack when my new notebook would not fit in the Swiss Army Computer Backpack that I already owned. Overall for organization, the Swiss Army is far superior.

The Targus backpack has plenty of room, but is somewhat lacking in two areas.

1. Lack of padding in the Computer sleeve (I actually added padding at the bottom of the sleeve and between the computer and the side of the pack that rests against your back).

2. Lack of compartments. The compartments in the backpack are spacious, but lack the organization capabilities (for all the small stuff that you carry with your computer) that exist in the Swiss Army pack.

Overall I like the pack and it does the job, but you'll need to add padding to the computer sleeve and I'm still looking for a solution to organize the accessories that I carry.

This backpack is virtually indestructible. I have purchased 2 others for my high school boys, who carry all of their textbooks & laptop throughout the school day. I bought my high school junior the first one and he just completed his freshman year in college. That backpack is still in great shape, and I expect my other 2 sons' to get through college with theirs! There is plenty of room for books, notebooks, the laptop, and even a waterbottle without having an overwhelming number of compartments. The laptop is well protected in its padded compartment. The only change I'd recommend to Targus is to add some color choices for those of us who purchase more than one.

I like the backback alot there is ample storage for anything I need to have with me when I am on the go. the backpack is a little larger than I thought it would be. it will hold a 17 inch laptop so it is large. the waste straps stay nicly stored out of the way as I do not use them. this backpack also carries well when slug over only one shoulder it does not slip off or cut into your shoulder. I gave it only 4 stars as it is a little bit larger than i wanted but the size does not stop me from using it.
the seperate sections allow me to keep hardware away from my papers so they do not become damaged.

very nice travel bag.......2007-05-14

This is a very nice travel bag. There is a lot of room for everything you would want to take on a trip. Unlike other wheeled bags I have used, It is very stable on the wheels. It got dropped on the floor several time and none of the electronics eqipment I had in it got damaged. I love it!!
