I actually stumbled across this product while searching for a stand for my laptop that would raise the screen to eye level while allowing room to place a real keyboard in front of the stand. I wasn't sure it would hold up with a modern wide-screen laptop - but it works perfectly! It supports the weight with no problem and the little clips at the bottom (meant to hold book pages open) hold the laptop in place.

For the price - it was about 15% of the cost of a real laptop stand. If it works this well with a laptop, you can imagine how well it would work for larger books.
