Just What I Wanted.......2007-06-11

Needed more USB ports. This was a good solution. Have not had any problems with the Hub. The 2 ports on the top prove to be very handy for temporary connections.

Bad Product.......2007-06-11

I've used a number of Belkin products over the years with no problem. So when I added USB Adapter card to my Mac, I decided to replace my older Belkin USB 1.0 Hub with this model. Bg Mistake because the product only worked a month. I noticed that the Hub got extremely hot then started to quit working or giving me a low-powere message.

After looking at other reviews for this porudct, I realized other people were having the same problem as me. I contacted Belkin but they told me it must be caused by one of the devices I have plugged into the Hub- an iShuffle, Canon IPX 4300 printer and a Canon 1220 Scanner. I've tried different combinations and one item at a time to see if that would fix the prblem but nothing worked. As soon as the device heats up, it quits again. So my advice would be not buy this product unless Belkin fixes the problem!

Since this hub has its own power adapter, it is great for charging music players that charge via usb because you can leave your computer off in the process. Five usb ports face the rear, so usb cables can be kept neatly behind your desk, and the two usb ports on top make it great for thumb drives or music players that you need access to.

Some have complained that this device overheats and shuts down. I keep four usb devices (hard drive, printer, eyetv, and thumb drive) connected at all times, and mine barely gets above room temperature. If yours does overheat, it's a manufacturer's defect. It happens. Return it, don't just accept it.

The only thing about mine is that all seven of the usb lights stay on, and I wonder if they are only supposed to be on when their respective ports have been connected to a device.

Hubs are hubs, but this Belkin device has a few things that put it on a different level:

- Higher power so you can use flash devices in addition to your others. Many cheaper hubs will say, "Better for low-power devices" on the packages.
- Attractive, two port area on top for easy access. This well-engineered hub has five USB connections going to the back and two easy-to-locate connections in front; no more plugging and unplugging.
- Activity lights on the front proves useful in flash up and downloads. It works even with power-hungry flash cards.
- Solid base that keeps the hub solidly on your table.
- Attractive and easy to plug-and-play. Most users don't even need ths instruction sheet.

This is a crowded market, and there are lots of perfectly fine choices. But the the more you use this, the more appealing it is. The only drawback may be that additional colors (like iMac whiite) would have been desirable.

Great Powered USB 2.0 Hub.......2007-05-13

This 7-port powered USB 2.0 hub is great. No power problems with any USB device. Two of the ports are easily accessible from the top for quick connections.
