Amazon.com Product Description
Home dial-up Internet service doesn't have to be slow. U.S. Robotics' external 56K faxmodem (model USR325686E) is designed to make your dial-up connection as fast and easy-to-use as possible. An e-mail with attachments will fly from your out box up to 50-percent faster than it would from competing devices. Quick Connect lets you establish your connection rapidly, so you spend less time simply getting going.
Worried about missing calls while you're online? Let that one go: a U.S. Robotics feature called Internet Call Notification (ICN) lets you screen incoming calls so you can take the important ones.
Even better, Modem on Hold lets you take calls while online without dropping your Internet connection--there's no need for a second phone line.
The modem's ControlCenter lets you customize your upload and download speeds--choose to surf the Web at top speed or to send e-mail attachments faster. Built-in line-probing technology helps you stay connected even under the worst line conditions, and the modem is software-upgradeable, too, so you can download new features and enhancements as they become available.
Included software turns your computer into a feature-rich fax machine--send faxes from any Windows application and receive incoming faxes at any time. The software also supports delayed and broadcast faxing.
The modem is compatible with Windows XP, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows 3.1, Linux, and DOS.

Customer Reviews:
US ROBOTICS V.92 EXTERNAL 56K FAXMODEM.......2007-05-18
I am really diaappointed with this modem. It does not live up to is advertising features. The settings changs without notice even though they have been saved to modem. This modem is slower than the internal modem I replaced. This modem was supposed to allow me to take a calls while online but that feature does not work even with the upgrades I received from the manufacturer's web site. The upgraded specified for this modem were not helpful. I also found out that V.92 is not supported by my ISP. This modem was a step back into the 90"s.
Such a thing as a reverse Pollyanna?.......2006-01-26
You know, I look at these other reviews and can't understand them. I have used US Robotics modems since they came out with the speedy 2400 bps model back in 80-something. Never had any complaints. The only reason I ever replaced one was more speed! The first exception was the 56K one I bought on ebay 5 years ago. Paid $25 for it and it worked perfectly until 1/22/2006. For some reason, it couldn't pick up the phone. Enter Amazon and this modem. I ordered it at 4 PM CST on 1/23 and it was here by noon on 1/24. I unplugged the old modem and just put the same cables into the new one. First dial out didn't connect but have had five now that did (as of midnight). No connections at less than 40K and one at 48K! First time I ever hit that speed in all my years of dial-up.
I don't know how the software drivers in this package are but I can testify to the ones I have been using for 3 years. It has been my experience with USR that you must be positive which modem you actually have and get the right drivers. They used to have a tool that you download that would tell you what drivers you needed.
I find it hard to believe that the other four reviews here had such uniformly bad experiences. I would not use a dial up modem from any other company. I live well out in a rural area of Louisiana and will not have a faster way of accessing the Internet anytime soon. I did not hesitate to buy this modem.
Your milage may vary.
terrible purchase, don't do it, just don't do it.......2005-12-03
Purchased this $99 item along with $18K of computers and it never worked. Wouldn't connect. Spent 1 hr troubleshooting myself, 30 mins with tech support. Paid to Fedex it. That was Oct 29. Here we are Dec 2 and I still have no modem. Tech support says tonight that the order was processed YESTERDAY and the case is PENDING. When do I get my modem? They can't say. In the meantime, my $18K computer system has no modem. I'm tempted to buy a replacement (not USR) but you know that the next day I'll get the USR and then what do I do? I'm told Dell would have sent a modem post haste, without waiting to receive the defective one.
My computer seller says he bought mine and two others. He had to send one back because it wouldn't connect. Sounds like US Robotics, who used to be a stand up company, can't cut it on manufacturing or warranty support. Never again.
What a JOKE...!.......2005-04-23
This is a piece of junk...Do not purchase this modem...Refuses to answer...Locks up...Driver XP issues
Dead at 19 months.......2004-07-03
I thought this modem was ok until it just stopped dead after about 18 months- could not even get the power light to come on.
Will now try another brand.
