Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars It just doesn't last long enough........2007-06-11

Reading the other reviews, I understand that I'm even one of the lucky ones!

I purchased my TF-DVD7050 on May 2006 and it stopped working just one year after.

During those 12 months my 5-yr.-old has used it extensively, dropped it on the floor and mishandled it in quite a few ways. I even hacked the region-coding so it had become a region-free player. It worked very fine. Then, suddently the picture became in B&W, then nothing at all. The buttons on the screen also failed to work. I can still use it with the remote and attaching it to a TV with the cable supplied.

Fiddling with it I understood that the cause is probably the tiny wires connecting the screen to the body of the device.

Living in Italy, I don't have any way to receive assistance from Coby. I contacted them with 4 emails: 2 to customer service and 2 to tech-support. I hoped to get some advice for having it repaired by a technician here. I NEVER received an answer!!!

First I thought to buy another one, but then reading the reviews here on Amazon, I realized that the product has probably become worse during these last few months. That's the reason I sayed I'm one of the lucky ones...

I will have to look for a quality brand and spend more :-(

It's a pity, it had so many features, great screen image and the price was just right. Farewell Coby, you'll NEVER see me again!

5 out of 5 stars A MUST for long drives with a toddler.......2007-06-08

Great price, works great, what more can I say?

2 out of 5 stars A decent concept, but poor quality mars this product.......2007-05-23

At first glance, the design of this portable DVD player appears that it would be ideal to mount on the back of a car headrest so the little ones can watch a DVD or two on a long trip. This DVD player comes packed with goodies: a harness to mount it on the back of a headrest, two headsets, a car power outlet that looks as it was designed by Sigmund Freud, plenty of cables and an audio cassette adapter to play audio through a car stereo.

In the 2 months I have owned this, it has played every DVD flawlessly - even ones I've have created and burned myself. It easily connects to any TV. The only design flaw I noticed is that the DVD player must be removed from the headrest harness in order to change DVDs...a difficult task if you or your spouse are in the front seat and junior is in the back. The remote has plenty of buttons, but its range barely extends further than 4 feet away, and you must point the remote directly on the same level at the DVD player in order for it to work.

After two weeks of use, the latch that holds the DVD player together fell off while speeding down the Pennsylvania Turnpike and now resides somewhere in my car's rear seat. The DVD player now won't stay closed unless it is laid down horizontally. It is now a crippled home DVD player. Hopefully, Coby will honor the warranty on this one.

2 out of 5 stars Good features, poor reliability.......2007-05-18

Bought this for my daughter for our 3rd vehicle 5 months ago. After using about a dozen times, it bit the dust. Won't turn on & out of warranty. Wasn't a bad player when in worked, but would liked for it to work a bit longer (we only played 3 different DVDs on it since new). Also, the sleave it comes with to attach to the car's headrest is poorly designed. It covers the power switch and the connection clasps are directly behind the drivers head (& uncomfortable). Even though it has strong features (nice headphones & remote), we'll be replacing with a different make.

4 out of 5 stars Great while it lasted.............2007-05-16

I decided to write this real experience review.
I bought the Coby 7 inch DVD player to use in the car for my son.
I LOVED it!!!! It was the perfect size, it came with a wonderful accessory pack (2 headphones, car charger, wall charger, seat back holder)It had a remote, it had a hold button that you can slide so that if a button accidently or not accidently got pushed it would continue playing the video. It was exactly what I wanted. Now you might be wondering why I am referring to it in past tense. It lasted for 1 year. We had a video playing in it on the way home from the store one evening, and the very next morning we turned it on & it said WRONG DISK. It won't play anything, not even the DVD cleaner disk. I had a friend buy one for her daughter & after 1 month the same thing happened, she returned it & got a new one, and this time after 3 months it happened again.
I gave 4 stars because of the great features on the player. The price was decent and I feel that we got our money's worth. However, chances are very good that you will be replacing within the year, so as long as you are planning on it being disposable then you will love it too. If you're looking for a long term investment, this is probably not the one for you.
