Great for multiplayer.......2007-06-10

After playing through Call of Duty 2 and completing it and then playing Call of Duty 3 all the way through I would have to say that the single player of #3 just wasn't up to standards, some parts were too easy and other parts too hard. That isn't so bad, but the reasons for parts being too hard doesn't seem to be just good AI programming. It just feels as though they made some spots impossible without actually making it the AI hard to beat.

However, the multi-player for Call of Duty 3 is great. You can play with up to 12 players a side and as several different types. Light Assault, Heavy Assault, Scout, Support, Medic and Anti- Tank. Each type has special abilities. Most of the maps are pretty fun to play on as well. The different types of games to play keeps it fresh too: War, capture the flag, battle, team battle and headquarters all make for different types of strategies. Both of the downloadable packs of maps are also very good, which also gives the game more options for play.

You should definitely avoid paying retail for this title. It's really not that good compared to what else is available, and the improved graphics and audio are the very least one should expect from a next gen console game. The fact that there's nothing new here is particularly frustrating. I think the WWII experience peaked about 6 years ago, with certain of Steven Speilbergs productions. We can never repay the greatest generation, and making stale video games meant to approximate what those people saw and did is the very height of cynicism. The only thing that could trivialize the horror of WWII more than this game is probably some kind of sugar cereal.

Things that suck:

-Extremely linear gameplay
-Worthless multiplayer
-Annoying AI
-Highly contrived hand to hand combat scenes that literally resort to button mashing
-Unclear objectives
-Very little control over what equipment you can use (basically you should steal the first German MP40 you can get your hands on for ammo purposes).
-Unclear reasons for dying(often).
-Little in the way of fun

By the time I finished this game, naught 4 days after purchase and moderate play, I felt no other sense of achievement than I didn't have to play it anymore. Once you finish the game that's it, you don't get anything special when you start a new campaign , like the ability to select the one or two cool guns that exist in this game. You don't get any medals, no promotions, I mean, who cares? The only reason to play it again is to try to justify its unwarranted expense. DO NOT BUY IT.

How about a Korean War game, or maybe Vietnam? Do those conflicts not deserve our respect, understanding, or attention? Isn't this supposed to be a variety of "edutainment"?

game is nice in 1080p. the down fall is that their is not option that i can found to turn of movie clips between each level. other then that, the game is defeated. looking for #4

Truly addictive.......2007-04-30

I've played COD 2 extensively and really liked it before switching to this. This game is truly addictive. It feels incredibly realistic due to many nice additions like ability to cook grenades, place mines and use of vehicles. Online play rocks - you really feel like a small part of a big war.
The reason I am giving this a 4 star is because of bugs starting with you getting stuck in open space to the game completely freezing and requiring complete system reboot. Also there are several "glitches" people sometimes use to cheat like hiding inside a wall - very annoying. Hopefully they will work them out soon. Overall an awesome game - be prepared to become addictive.
