Rock-solid enclosure
The innovative design of iPod Hi-Fi transforms consumer-grade materials into the ideal enclosure for high-fidelity sound. The high-end sound of iPod Hi-Fi pours out of a double-walled plastic shell redesigned for maximum stiffness to prevent vibration and resonance--two major causes of sonic imperfection. And airtight sealing allows voluminous, unobstructed sound, effectively preventing buzzing and clatter.

The right balance
iPod Hi-Fi features three speaker cones custom designed to provide balanced sound across the frequency range. The result of numerous rigorous acoustic tests, this design delivers room-filling stereo imaging. The two 80 mm wide-range cones are set in dedicated chambers and isolated on the front plate, providing mid and high frequencies that sound vivid and bright. The natural bass of iPod Hi-Fi is generated by a 130 mm woofer. Thanks to the airtight sealing, the low frequencies are enriched inside the enclosure and then directed via tuned tubes through ports in the front.

Energy bar
No need to find a place to hide an unsightly power brick, as iPod Hi-Fi houses all power components internally. Or run iPod Hi-Fi on six D-cell batteries(2). Either way, it plays your music with big, warm sound. In DC mode, custom electronics manage the energy to enhance battery life and sound, even adjusting volume as necessary. Great little speaker.......2007-06-11

We bought this before a long travelling vacation, and it works great. The sound is much better than any portable device I've seen, period. Only regret has to do with the batteries - we bought rechargables (Rayovac Nickel Metal Hydride), and they only last about 4 hours, which means that you need several sets. It would have been great to have a built-in battery and better life, or at least a built-in battery charger so there wasn't so much changing of batteries. Also, the remote's usefulness is limited to volume, play/pause, and skip forward/back - no menu functions. We have the newest IPOD (v. 5.5, 80G), and I expected that the menu button on the remote would have some function, but it does not. All in all, I'd buy it again.

Super sound quality .......2007-05-10

Before deciding to buy the Apple Ipod Hi Fi, I went to a local store and listened to the quality of the Apple versus the Bose. There was no comparison. You have a rich sound and a good quality sound from the Apple Hi Fi. I would definately recommend this product.

great piece of sound system..........2007-05-09

I bought the hi fi specifically for my little boy's 1st birthday party at the park. I used 6 D size brand new batteries, tested them out in the house and the sound was great.

Then by the time I got to the park and turned the hi fi on, I could barely hear the songs. There was ambient noise and what not but even when I turned it on to the loudest it was still not loud enough for the party!!!

Anyway, I just let it played for a couple of hours and then all of a sudden it stopped playing. Turns out the new batteries were totally drained...

So in short, this is a great piece of hardware for indoor use only.
Hence the 4 star rating...

Apples for my ears! Very sweet!.......2007-04-27

I was looking for a compact but big sounding stereo that could be my primary soundsystem to fill my condo. I owned a pair of Logitech Z2300 2.1 THX speakers with a Apple dock which are great but they were always missing the midtones and a muddy bass. It also looked like a mess of wires with the dock and the subwoofer took a large foot print The Hifi is able to get very crystal clear tones that I was missed from my Technics stereo which I got rid of due to space concerns. The bass may be a concern to some people who enjoy the thump in their songs. You really need to combine the EQ R&B setting and Bass Boost in the speaker settings to get it going. The price is fairly high (I did pick mine up refurbished from the Apple website) but there's a couple of bonus' that I really like over my previous setup:

- Simple, classic looks
- Compact size, great for a condo
- Added portability with batteries.
- Added Line/Optical-in (I'll be connecting my Xbox360 and Macbook Pro)
- Added Album art view for colour iPods when playing.

BEST YET LOUD SOUND.......2007-04-12

I'VE HAD THE APPLE HI FI FOR A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME BUT I TAKE IT TO MY WORK AND LISTEN TO IT EACH NIGHT AND IT BLOWS EVERYONE OUT OF THE ROOM. IT'S CLEAR AND CRISP NO MATTER HOW LOUD I'VE CRANKED IT UP...IF IT GETS DISTORTED, I WOULD NOT KNOW SINCE I CAN ONLY TAKE THE LOUDNESS UP TO A CERTAIN POINT (AND THAT'S PRETTY LOUD) AND THERE HAS BEEN NO DISTORTION AT ALL. MY LITTLE 4G NANO WORKS PERFECTLY IN IT. I GOT MY NEW APPLE HI FI ON EBAY FOR $200 (SHIP INCL) AND THAT'S A GREAT PRICE AS YOU CAN SEE...BATTERIES DON'T LAST LONG IF YOU USE BATTERY POWER. SEEMS TO ME I ONLY GOT ABOUT 7 HOURS OUT OF THEM. I LIKE THE RUBBER PAD ON THE BOTTOM TO PROTECT THE UNIT AND YOUR TABLE OR WHAT EVER SURFACE YOU PUT IT ON. I LOVE THE HANDLES WHERE YOU CAN EASILY CARRY IT FROM PLACE TO PLACE....WONDERFUL UNIT...HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! P.S. I HAD ORIGINALLY WANTED THE BOSE, LIKE THIS BETTER THOUGH...:)
