Customer Reviews:
Nice Concept, poor design.......2007-06-07
I have ordered 3 of these, 2 arrived defective. The one that works is great! they apparently have a design flaw which prevents discs from being ejected. Returning/exchanging is a time consuming process. I'd look at alternative vendors.
Great Normally.......2007-05-20
I now own 3 of these, and they all act the same. 95% of the time they work as advertised and have absolutely no problems at all. That other 5% is when they just don't eject a disk and you need to try it a second time to get what you want out. I've even had it lose a disk, which takes a 20 minute maintenance cycle to figure out. I have also had very minor software issues (missing disk entry) which were easily figured out. But over all, these have performed quite well.
It works, "for me".......2007-05-09
I am an avid gamer and I have more games than some stores so I was desperate for storage space. I got one of these units and tried it for a few months and was extremely happy. So then I got three more. And then three more. But like any electronics, sooner or later you're bound to get a bad one and I did. My sixth unit is a little "flaky." It has not actually malfunctioned, but it resets itself every 2 or 3 hours which registers on my computer as a device being improperly disconnected, which can be bad depending on what you are doing at the time. I have the units assembled in two stacks of three connected to a powered hub. And another problem, although it does not happen often, is that a unit will jam a disc and you'll have to reset it to get the disc out. If the unit is full, as mine are, that can take up to an hour or more. I've heard horror stories of people actually having to open them up. Also it seems Imation is never going to update their software for Blu-Ray, Xbox360, PS3 or HD-DVD discs. That's why I can not give 5 stars. But for the amount of discs I have, and the amount of money I can afford to spend, "it works for me."
Doesn't work!.......2007-04-27
I just got this today. The unit did not work at all. The database back up doesn't work and the restore back up doesn't work. I decided to move it to another computer and all the files were gone? This is a BAD PRODUCT! BAD! buy more storage racks. You will be far happier in the end..

Good idea, poor engineering.......2007-03-22
Even when I realized that it were merely a storage device (not a reader), Disk Stakka still seemed interesting. But then... within 5 minutes I realized it couldn't eject any disc I inserted. After calling 3M, they suggested an "automatic calibration" probably because "the plate must have been misaligned with the ejecting slot". It worked at first but started to fail after another 5 minutes. Surprisingly, "auto-calibrating" the device again - a 10 minutes process - worked for the next 2 ejects. Afterwards it refused to eject unless you "calibrate it" again. I asked for a replacement unit to 3M and they said that since I've bought it online on eBay (it was sealed and brand new - mind this), they couldn't do anything to help me. By the way: they don't offer any kind of repair service on this product. Even if you're willing to pay (like me). If it breaks on you, you're on your own.
