1 out of 5 stars DEFECTIVE! MISWIRED! SAFETY HAZARD!.......2007-05-26

I bought four Y adapters from this seller, two of this ASIN (B000234UFG) and two of ASIN B000FPQO9Q. The four adapters are identical in appearance and have the same defect (described below), so the seller in my case definitely used a common make & model to fulfill orders for both ASIN's.

All four Y adapters are consistently miswired: Each connects the plug's HOT blade to the receptacles' NEUTRAL slots and the plug's NEUTRAL blade to the receptacles' HOT slot. This presents a genuine, 2nd-order safety hazard.

I discovered the defect on the first of the four adapters the hard way: by getting shocked! For the other three, I used a test meter to confirm that they were likewise miswired.

I guess it beats buying a ton of power bars. I have about 6 of these babies.

5 out of 5 stars Best thing since home computers!.......2007-04-21

One doesn't need a computer to appreciate these. For instance, a bathroom with one outlet. Add a water pic, an electric toothbrush a razor or two, a hair dryer and/or curling iron. So, we buy a surge protectors to plug all that in to, but, oops! They all have transformers and each takes two outlets. Sigh. Two surge protector$. And that's just in your master bathroom. If you have teenagers, girls or boys, they have the same problem. Then there's the kitchen. And don't forget the living room and, perhaps, family room. Tivos, DVDs, entertainment centers, Xboxes, PlayStations, and their ilk. Surge protectors, surge protectors, so many ugly, ugly, surge protector$!

What a pleasure if you could use just one, or depending if you only had 4 things to plug in. NONE! WOW! And the computer world, which is growing daily to encompass more of us even if some are dragging their feet. Each salesman should point these out to new computer buyers. I sure wish I'd known about them! I don't know why these aren't better known in the &cyber; world where so many transformers are used. I only recently stumbled across them, after having purchased no less than six battery back up units for my computer equipment because you just canNOT fit those big square, bulky transformer thingies in the outlets without covering up at least one other. These solve that problem as well as the space problem with so many back up units. I was able to more than pay for all I needed and more of these by selling the no longer needed back up units at auction and all of the electrical things I need plugged in for back up have plenty of room with outlets left over. AND, because I am handicapped and spend 24/7 in a lounge chair I have a lot of other things that are handy to keep near and need plugging in. Cell phone charger, razor, a very bright light that I really need on occasion, a hand vac ... you get the idea.

I also keep a triple headed extension cord plugged in for things that are only needed occasionally. My dog's favorites are the clippers and hair dryer; yes I groom him in my lap. I bought 12 of these, though mine are the single headed because I just happened to stumble on them and didn't know anyone else carried them. Amazon is much cheaper (as usual), and although it kind of made my stomach feel funny when I saw the price, 2/3 less plus, I'm still glad I bought them when I did. We need to get the word out!

Amazingly, when I bought them I was dealing with three MAJOR companies who sell nothing but computers about other matters. Out of curiosity, I asked each of them about these wonderful gadgets and not ONE of them had heard of them! All, however, were extremely interested and asked for the URL where I got them. They wanted them for themselves and wanted to look into carrying them.

We, the computer world, should put our heads together and come up with a generic name for them. Everyone knows what a surge strip is, a battery back up, a USB cord, external drive and so on, no matter who makes them. These need a recognizable generic name. Transformer extensions? Spaghetti rids? Electric recepticle openers? Surge strip expanders!!!!!

Hey Amazon! How about running a contest to name them? I'll bet you would sell a bunch in the process and, more importantly, it would spread in the computer world. Six months from now a person could Google a name that came from Amazon's contest and enjoy the convenience of these wonderful extensions. My only con, if that's what it is, is that now that I've found there are a lot of different choices out there, so it may just be the place I bought them, is that I wish they came in different lengths. Mostly I need much, much shorter to help me get rid of the spaghetti of wires under the table next to me, but there are two or three than I wish were a few inches longer. I found these on Amazon only because of Oprah's Earth Day; program today where she mentioned, among other things, a product called a Smart Strip. Apparently they can save you significant amounts of money on your electric bill, enough, from what was said, to pay for themselves quickly.

5 out of 5 stars Power.......2007-03-19

What can I say? It doesn't make coffee, but it isn't designed to. It is a power cord, and it passes power, so I give it a 100%.
