Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Too much history.......2007-05-13

This book spends way too much time covering the history of every chipset, processor, motherboard, and everything else. Much of it is obsolete. If you want to learn how to upgrade and repair PCs this is not the book for you. It assumes that you can already do the physical process of adding and removing parts. Although, a lot of that is found on the DVD. They need to stop building on 17 editions worth of technology and take some stuff out. Otherwise it is a great book and there is still tons of non-obsolete material. It has a great reference guide in the back.

4 out of 5 stars Good book but not practical.......2007-05-09

It's a good book but not too practical. It goes into too many details you won't need as a PC repair tech. Look for a more general guide

4 out of 5 stars Upgrading and Repairing PCs (17th Edition) Scott Mueller.......2007-04-01

Execellent and comprehensive coverage of the material. One problem is with the included DVD. Unfortunately, the DVD has been restricted for playing to zone 1 rather than making it universal. Not good for those of us who do not live in zone 1. This is very tedious. Why bother doing the right thing and paying the full price for the legitimate product only to find that you are as bad off as having bought the pirate copy? Please do better next time.

5 out of 5 stars a wealth of technical information.......2007-03-24

This book covers every aspect of personal computers in great detail! It is all done by starting with the very basics of a subject and then continues to build on what was previously read. The author of this book sometimes explains things using great analogies that really helped me get a good grasp on some concepts. If you want to understand computers better this book is for you!

5 out of 5 stars Great Reference.......2007-03-21

Aside from a few typos and graph errors which you would expect from any book of this sort, this is a great reference. The use of analogies really helps me understand what the author is talking about. The inclusion of specific data regarding particular models is also helpful. It's already helped me fix my computer once!
