From the Manufacturer
192KHz sampling enables you to have an accurate representation of the original sound curves. Together with a 24-bit resolution, more information is captured from the original analogue sound wave form, giving a much richer audio reproduction.

Multi-format playability allows you to play most disc formats for maximum disc compatibility and listening pleasure.

12-bit Video DAC is a superior Digital-to-Analogue-Converter that preserves every detail of the authentic picture quality. It shows subtle shades and smoother graduation of colors, resulting in a more vibrant and natural picture. The limitation of the usual 10bit DAC become in particular apparent while using large screens and projectors.

The attractive enclosure has a very low profile.

DivX Ultra combines DivX playback with great features like integrated subtitles, multiple audio languages, multiple tracks and menus into one convenient file format.

Multi-format playability allows you to play most disc formats for maximum disc compatibility and viewing pleasure.

Picture CD is a CD-R or CD-RW disc on which you can store your MP3 and digital pictures. When inserting a Picture CD in the DVD player, a screen menu will pop up, showing your JPEG's and/or MP3 files on the disc. Just select the music and pictures files you wish to enjoy and press play or OK. You can watch your pictures on TV with your music playing simultaneously.

Progressive Scan doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a noticeably sharper picture. Instead of sending a field comprising the odd lines to the screen first, followed by the field with the even lines, both fields are written at one time. A full image is created instantaneously, using the maximum resolution. At such a speed, your eye perceives a sharper picture with no line structure.

Other standard features include:

192kHz/24-bit audio DAC delivers high-quality audio.
12-bit/ 108Mhz video DAC for sharp image with natural colors.
Ultra-slim design.

Customer Reviews:
DivX features are incredible but the player itself is pretty lousy!.......2007-06-11
Pros:
- DivX playback is fantastic- put whatever files you want onto a DVD or CD, burn it, pop it into the player and select the file on the drop down menu.
- Nice sound, nice picture, although really at this point I expect that from all my DVD players. But these players aren't exactly expensive so definitely points for quality. Menu has lots of options for sound and picture quality.
Cons:
- Super, super slow operation. Why does everything have to take so long?
- Terrible remote. Not really self explanatory, menu system is terrible, it's not really a pleasure to use this remote. I switched to a Universal, but have to go back to the other one whenever I want to use subtitles.
- Why is Resume Play so hard to get to? It shouldn't take such a long time for this thing to power up in the first place, let alone find the last spot on my disc. It can be a real trial re-booting this thing. Which leads me to my next gripe...
- Leave this thing alone for five minutes and it turns itself off!!! Seriously guys? This is easily one of the stupidest design flaws I've ever seen! Fix this in your next player, it's amateurish in how dumb it is.
That's all I can think of. If you really value the DivX playback (which I've been using as a very, very nice convenience) this is a good player, albeit with quite a few flaws that I wish I didn't have to overlook. Until other manufacturers start hitting the market with budget priced DivX players, this is your best bet.
Hypersensitive poor product.......2007-06-10
I bought this DVD player for it's multi region capabilities and after reading the many positive reviews for this player. I find the player to be absolutely awful. As expereinced by one other reviewer, I can't watch ANY of my DVDs on this player. Most of the time I wait 5 minutes for it load, only to have it lock up. The remote is also very poor, as explained by other reviewers. I will have to look for something else...this player is just no good. I only give it one star as that is the least possible...I'd give it none if I could.
It plays Region 2 DVDs.......2007-06-08
I bought this to play Region 2 DVDs, and it seems to do that just fine.
My DVD Player.......2007-06-08
The unit seems easy enough to set up and to use. We were able to change settings so as to play DVD's from my wifes home country of Denmark.
OK product, but Horrible Customer Service.......2007-06-05
I just bought this DVD player because my multi region Samsung (which has lasted me 2 years) looks like its kicking the dust. This appears to be a very good thin DVD player at a good price. It does support PAL on any NTSC TV. I still have not tested my Japanese Region 2 NTSC DVDs but it is stated online that this player will support that format. There are a few negatives to this player.
The clicker is utterly horrible, there is no volume button, there is no eject button (which now has to be done manually everytime you wish to change a disc) and MOST OF ALL, there is no fast forward or rewind, only buttons to switch to the next scene are included, making it terrible if you wish to rewind or fast foward. On a plus note there is a ZOOM feature on the clicker (my Samsung has one also, but the 2X or 3X text stays on the screen, making it greatly annoying) However, that is not an issue anymore with this new player.
Philips customer service is utterly horrible. And believe me, I mean utterly horrible. When this player arrived on my door, the first thing I did was test a Region 2 PAL disc, which would not play. I called their 800 number and was on the phone with a woman who was very difficult to understand (some weird accent) who insisted that this player could not play anything other than Region 1 NTSC DVDs. When I told her that the item description on Amazon.com as well as the hundred reviews on Amazon that I personally read said that this player could play PAL discs, and that this was false advertising, her only reply (which made absolutely NO SENSE) was "check the back of the player for a globe". My reply was, I will return this and never do business with this company again.
However, after hanging up I remembered reading some instructions online (though I was almost sure it was for a different player) but after looking it up I did find the instructions I needed to set this player to Region 0 so that it will support all import discs, proving that the operator I talked to had absolutely no clue what she was talking about.
I will soon be buying an LCD TV and after that phone call, I sure as heck ain't gonna get a Philips. In fact I will probably never buy a product made by this company again.
Just remember there is no rewind or fast forward on the clicker, perhaps another clicker can be found online that will work on this player.
