Great printer, support lacking.......2007-03-11

This printer is capable of outstanding quality, but it's let down by poor documentation, less than perfect software, and terrible support by Canon. The iPF500 wiki is full of reports of dead ink cartridges, dead rollfeed units, and software problems. If you can get an image printed the results are great.

I've had no mechanical issues, just software issues that are mostly the result of poor documentation so I consider myself very fortunate. With better support this printer would easily earn 5 stars.

I don't regret the purchase, but do your research before you buy!

Amazing Prints!.......2006-06-26

I just saw this printer and prints that it made at a local photography supply shop. Simply amazing! One of the prints was a test shot the shop uses. It contains a Macbeth color checker chart, grey scale chart, and a variety of other objects arrayed in a diarama. The color accuracy impressed me, especially the Greens and Blues.

Black and white prints are equally as impressive as the color. Finally Canon can do a decent job with B&W. My i9900 (which may get replaced soon with this one) can't even compare to the Epson K3 inks for B&W work. The ipf5000 changes that.

Contrary to the previous reviewer's remarks, the initial set of inks show about 1/2 full after the printer has been primed. And it should be noted that this ink isn't wasted: its in the feed tubes ready to be printed. The shop had printed 20+ 13x19 prints and all of the cartridges still showed ~half full. The ipf5000 appears to be as frugal with the ink as my i9900 is.

Now all I need to do is find a table big enough to hold it...
