With the versatile PIXMA MP500 Photo All-In-One on your desktop, you'll ask yourself how you ever got along without it. This amazing machine delivers an impressive resolution of up to 9600 x 2400 color dpi, for remarkable detail and clarity, using superfine ink delivery. Its 5-color ink system - four dye-based inks and a pigment-based black ink - produces true-life photos with a wide color palette, along with laser-quality text. You won't have to wait long to see your results; a beautiful photo lab quality 4"x 6" borderless photo takes approximately 51 seconds. AE (Auto Exposure) Copy feature automatically optimizes reproduction quality based on the type of original you're duplicating. When scanning photos or graphics, you'll see high-quality 1200-dpi reproduction with vibrant 48-bit color depth.
With the large 2.5" color LCD viewer you can evaluate your images in beautiful color, then enhance them before printing! Just insert your compatible memory card into a built-in card slot and begin viewing. Customer Reviews:
Lasted about 18 months for us........2007-05-27
I rather like this multifunction, and it prints, scans, and copies well. It does however chew up ink cartridges very quickly relative to our previous HP printer, and you cannot recycle/refill them. Ink costs will likely surprise you.
Another problem is poor software design. For example, when a color cartridge is low, you have to click a warning dialog even when printing a black and white document. Also, the default setting was to print documents in *reverse* order for some reason. It also won't let you print a document when one of the five ink tanks is deemed empty.
After about 16-18 months of average home use, it developed a problem where under the #5 cartridge a thick vertical black line came out, on the *reverse* side of the paper, bleeding through to the front. We tried replacing cartridges several times, then spent a couple of weeks fruitlessly interacting with their email support line (who seemed quite unable to perform support). We talked to a guy at Fry's Electronics about it, another Canon owner, who was fairly convinced it was a defective print head. We ordered one for $48.00, and of course it was not the problem. We've now got a gorgeous piece of junk on our hands, plus two print heads and, perhaps $200 of spare ink cartridges, too many of which were opened to try and solve the problem.
So in summary, I loved the mechanical design and functionality, tolerated the software quirks, and finally became disgusted with the reliability and customer support.
OK, but unnecessarily complex.......2007-05-24
This device performs ok, but it is unnecessarily complex to operate. When coping it inexplicably often reset itself to an odd paper size and type, and you must struggle through the menu to set it to the 8.5 by 11 plain paper size most of us usually use. It has two paper feeds and if you don't need to keep two types of paper stored in the machine, this is just another setting to get wrong when printing. I would look for a simpler user interface if I was buying again.
Works well.......2007-05-07
This products works as advertised. It scans and prints well. The software works, the interface is clear, you don't have to fool around trying to figure it out. Everything works just the way you would expect it to.
Great product!
Extremely reliable printer.......2007-04-24
This has been a very long lasting, reliable printer for me. I use it for my business and demand a lot of it, and it has kept up with my needs admirably. It is fast, the print quality is good, and the separate ink tanks save money. My only complaint is that when I want to copy something, it defaults to a smaller size than the 8 1/2 x 11 that I usually need. I've had other Canon printers that have had problems with the feed system after a while, but after a year of heavy use have not had any problems with this one.
CANNON CHARGES $100 FOR REPLACEMENT INKS.......2007-04-02
I would never buy this printer again... It is great until you run out of Ink then you can only use Cannon the replacing of the Chip only workls sometime to use other brand inks. It was not conservative on ink at all and now they want $100 for replacement inks. Probably will never buy another Cannon product again
