Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars New technology sold using last century's marketing.......2007-02-17

I like the machine overall but I cannot escape the feeling that it is going to come up snake eyes for me one day. I can't say why, it makes decent images, although a bit slow on bitmapped images and PDF's. Ink refills are a bit tricky too. There are the 20 buck jobs (with a considerablely less ink in them) and the 58 dollar one. Go figure, I can buy a complete new machine for that kind of money and STILL get two cartridges (black and color).

All in all a decent machine but the marketing is straight out of the early 20th century and King Gillette's scheme of giving away the razor to get you to buy the blades. All of the brilliance of this machine is in the ink cartridge and not the plastic of its body. For occasional users on a budget with no particularly great demand for speed, this is the one. Think of it as buying your print quality as you go, but remember it is a high price to pay for a cheap printer.

My wife has a x1240 in her office, the slightly older version of this. it is very basic but gets the job done for her. Picked up for just 30 bucks yesterday new, so durability will have to be tested. I'm sure the x 1270 is the same (I couldn't tell a difference, except for the price and a green on buttoon verses a silver on button) The caviat as always is cartidges are expensive, and mine only came with a color cartridge, no black one (add another 19 bucks), and no usb cable (which never makes sense, why sell a product without things to use it with, a bad trend). Also, you must have the computer hooked up to copy, unlike some more expensive models (like my hp I have at home). There are many listings on amazon for this product, so take a look around, so far, a good value with minimal downpoints.
