Amazon.com Review

With its fast printing speed, expandable memory, and multifunction capabilities, the HP LaserJet 1100se is a good choice for home users and small businesses that need advanced black-and-white laser printing. Although ink-jet printers have steadily improved in printout quality, when you need the ultimate professional look, laser printers offer the best results, especially for text.

Setting up was easy--the HP LaserJet 1100se works with Windows 3.1, 95, 98, NT 4.0, and even OS/2 and DOS. In our tests, the HP LaserJet 1100se worked well out of the box. Hewlett-Packard continues its high standards of quality with the HP LaserJet 1100se--our printouts were crisp and had a high contrast. This printer also has impressive expansion capabilities that are useful for growing businesses or home offices that may need additional machines in the future. Its 2 MB memory is expandable to 18 MB to handle even more complex documents. In addition, HP's exclusive JetPath technology lets you add optional copying and scanning capabilities without degrading the speed and copy quality. <P> <B>Pros:</b>

    5 out of 5 stars Good Workhorse.......2007-03-12

I used the HP LaserJet 1100 at work for a long time in a very busy office. I was so pleased with it that I got a second-hand one for myself to use at home a few years later. It did start to have some issues with picking up extra paper as do almost all laser printers of that time but after taking it to my local computer repair guy for some maintenance it was fine.

1 out of 5 stars Paper Misfeeds (used to be a nice printer).......2005-08-01

Like everyone else, my printer pulls at least two if not ten sheets each time. Tried cheap and expensive paper. No difference. It used to work really well and recommended it in the office. The one at work started misfeeding first. They bought the "fix kit" which did absolutely nothing. I still use it and single-feed the sheets but it's driving me nuts. I couldn't recommend this to anyone and won't buy an HP printer again.

1 out of 5 stars Paper Feed Problems - Absolutely Terrible.......2005-05-03

As with many other reviewers, I have incurable paper feed problems and HP support is, as has become the norm these days, non-existent. For a while, I wasted my money on HP LaserJet paper, but found the cheap stuff misfeeds just as well as the good stuff. I even procured a copy of the service manual, replaced the feed roller and separator pads, etc. Good print quality for the price, but having to feed one page into the input tray at a time makes this unit worthless.

    5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Machine!!.......2004-04-30

I've had my Laserjet for a little over 2 years (as of 2004). This printer prints amazingly fast, and prints beautifully.

It takes the paper in smoothly, and feeds it out smoothly (which is very good since you don't want your paper being taken in roughly and then having a tilted document). I have never had a paper jam while using this product. I only bought ink once and that was not too long ago; this product isn't an ink hog. :)

    **SIDE NOTE**
The printer also allows you to add a scanner (which is sold separately) and I have never used it, but it is available.

This printer is HIGHLY recommended (for a b&w printer). It's my "work horse" and has done its job faithfully since its purchase!

    3 out of 5 stars A bit of a pickle.......2003-10-29

First off all backfed printers develope paper feed problems within 3 years, statistically. So I expect to rebuild my 1100 when it starts misfeeding. HP has addressed the problem by not making backfed laser printers anymore. So shut up and stop wining. Accept that you bought a cheap laser printer and move on. My 1100 works flawlessly on letter size and is a breaze to refill. I pay literally nothing to print with it. I find empty carts around town (by asking people DUH!) then I trade empty E20 E40 and L50 carts with an online toner reseller for LJ 1100 toner in a bottle. Then I refill. The printer refuses to print things correctly when the file size exceeds the printer memory... so I should stop wining and upgrade it but I feel that's a design flaw... the same as Brothers 1440 only doing 300DPI out of the box. Now that printer is a hunk of crap. This 1100 is what it is and does what it's suppose to. I had a 5L and it was the same case. Worked great till I broke it while monkeying around with the guts so I replaced it with this one for $100.
