It delivers an amazing resolution of up to 9,600 x 2,400 dpi, for detail and clarity that will surpass your expectations. To achieve this, Canon Full-photolitho-graphy Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) uses a next-generation 3,072-nozzle print head that ejects precise, consistent droplets as small as one picoliter. The high performance doesn't stop there. The PIXMA iP6600D Photo Printer can produce a beautiful photo lab quality 4" x 6" borderless print in approximately 46 seconds. Plus, its advanced paper handling provides you with several smart printing options. The dual paper path allows you to keep two different paper types always loaded and ready to print. You can even create two-sided photos or special photo albums with select Canon media.

With the extra-large 3.5" LCD color viewer and control panel, you can evaluate and enhance the images on your compatible memory card before printing! For viewing, just insert the card into one of the built-in card slots and select the images. As needed, the PIXMA iP6600D Photo Printer will automatically correct for red eye, improve sharpness and enhance the light values on your subjects' faces. Or, you can fine tune the image yourself using the easy control panel. Then, print directly from the memory card! You can also print directly from a PictBridge compatible digital camera or DV camcorder.

The Canon ChromaLife100 system combines the PIXMA iP6600D Photo Printer's FINE print head technology and newly developed inks with select Canon photo papers, with results rivaling that of many conventional photos. Beyond Expectation! .......2007-06-09

I had initially bought a less expensive Canon printer. My graphics department sneered at a photo I brought in. So that night I exchanged for the 6600D. Printed the same photo and the same people asked, "Oh, is that the original lab print?"
The printer gives the freedom of producing ok prints or spectacular - just depends on how much you want to spend for paper - the glossy PRO paper is the best and has the weight and texture of film prints.

Also I like the individual color cartridges - way more economical than the universal color cartridges you have to replace when Black runs out and everything else is still full! Also, when you open the ink cartridge area, all the cartridges glow red - like something out of 2001: A Space Odyssey - so there is definitely some geek appeal too!

Great printer but ink is crazy.......2007-03-12

Great quality pictures and prints. Lots of options with software too. But the ink?...Expensive and very hard to find. Be sure to have at least 3 black and 2 sets of colors when you have this printer. It will use it.

I was looking to retire my circa 1999 Epson Stylus Pro 925 and replace it with this model. The Epson was just worn out, leaving some ink artifacts on the edges of the prints.

Here's what's good about the ip6600d:
Far faster than the old Epson, I can probably print 3 8x10's in the time it takes the Epson to spit out one.
Paper handling with the dual feeds is great, never jammed.
Economical on ink. At least that is my perception.
Good support.

However, for me the one bad attribute negates the good: quality. The old Epson blows it out of the water. The epson's colors are more accurate, and the detail in the Canon photo is significantly inferior to the old Epson. There is a dithering (blurring) of detail in the Canon not present in the Epson. Even the photos shot with the Canon S3IS digicam are superior on the Epson. Working with tech support, I took an image off the Canon site and printed on both units. Epson won, hands down. Even my wife said it was no contest on quality.

I even went so far as to get a warranty replacement from Canon to see if it was a fluke. No, the Epson smokes the Canon on print quality. I really wish it were superior in this one area, but sorry, no. I guess I am out my money, as I spent so much time trying to get better quality I can't return it now. Wanna buy one cheap?

Great Printer.......2007-02-16

This is my third Canon printer and they keep getting better. The PIXMA i6600D is fast and quiet. The text quality is very good and the photo printing is the best of any brand printer I tested. This machine only confirms my loyalty Canon.

The print quality of the Pixma is fine--I have no complaints. But the reason I downrated this model is because the manufacturer has gone to extreme lengths to prevent the user from using any inks other than their own. My previous Canon, i960, allowed the use of generic inks. We all know WHY the companies do this. Frankly, it would be more honest to ask more for the machine & let us use whatever ink we prefer. But, hey, this is America, & it'll never happen.
