Customer Reviews:
Don't listen to ignorant people.......2007-05-01
I bought this printer two years ago, and i Have printed Hundreds of pages with it. SomeTimes I download E-books and I don't like to read them on the PC,so I Print Them (usually 250 pages per book), and I never had any problem of running out of ink, because if you put the printer settings in "fast draft ", the quality is Excellent and It takes about 5 sec per page.
Don't listen to people like the reviewer Zachary Walker that says that this printer(all 3940 printers) has this or that problem, just because HIS 3940 has that problem due to defect or because his Pc is full of Spyware, or because he doesn't know how to use a printer.
Excellent Printer; printed almost 350 pages in a row(fast draft) without using the whole cartridge.I have already printed 5 Books(~1300 Pags and many more word documents) and I only Bought 2 cartridges besides the ones that comes with the printer.
Good inexpensive option.......2007-02-25
I bought this printer back in late 2005 and it's still working great. It's very light in comparison to a lot of other printers I've had and does a great job printing. I have to agree with some of the other comments in that it does use up ink rather quickly. The low-ink warning also comes up way before it needs to. the "low-ink" warning was up for about 6 months before i actually needed to replace the ink. HP should have a better meter but really they just want you to spend more money. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and will continue using this printer until I go to college this fall (I plan on buying an all-in-one printer by HP at that time)
Deskjet 3940 - almost great - solution to absent output tray below.......2007-01-27
This is a nice little printer for at home printing. I would not recommend it for the amount of abuse it would see in a business setting. And it also prints halfway decent photos, if you only want one or two. That said, there is one drawback of this printer that made me rate it only 4 stars. There is no output tray for printed pages to land on! I never realized the importance of this part until my printed pages started feeding back into the printer. I did some searching for an aftermarket part to take care of this issue, and never found any. I also searched hp.com in the hopes of finding an output tray for a similar printer that I could buy and attach to my 3940. HP doen't make that easy, even when you have part numbers, which I did. I did find a handy item in my home office that appears to take care of the problem. So do read this if you get a different home printer that has the same problem.
Take the top of a box that some special printer papers come in, such as blank greeting cards or blank business cards. These boxes are letter paper size, and usually about 3/4 of an inch deep. With one small snip of the scissors and a piece of tape, the box lid will fit exactly where an output tray should have been. Your finished pages will land on this, and the box lid will not interfere with fresh paper being fed into the printer. Not a bad find, at $0.00 cost and thirty seconds of work!
Avoid this printer like the Plague!.......2006-09-24
I, as many others, was wooed by this printer due to its insanely low price. But unfortunately, that age-old saying is true: "you get what you pay for". It was great for a few days, with only the occasional paper jam, but after about a week... I cannot get a page to successfully load into the printer! If there are more than 5 pages in the tray, it takes all of the pages at once - and if there are less than 5 pages, it usually doesn't take anything. I feel deceived by HP!
Very good for the price.......2006-09-23
This is my first HP printer and i've had it seven months. I especially like the printing software. Unlike other reviewers, I've had only a very few paper jams. Other minor problems were easily resolved by reading the manuel or common sense problem solving.
This printers photos equal those of three much more expensive "photo printer" versions from other manufacturers i've owned in the past.
Its relatively slow printing photos, but for the price, i'm very satisified.
